For me, the thing about Tutu is when he does get on the field and targets, he's been effective, especially against the whiners. I'm surprised that McSnead used a 2nd rounder on him then hardly used him. His speed opens up the field for other players and he's fairly sure handed when he's been targeted.

Mcvay talked about that yesterday, saying he has good catch radius.

The main thing that concerns me about Tutu is the fact that he probably can't block on every play and therefore McVay can't run his 11 personnel all the time. It's gonna be an interesting year.

I think some people here have a misconception of signing Tutu. He’s not going to be featured in the offense.

Tutu does not replace Kupp or Robinson. Tutu remains in his same role.

Davante Adams - replaces DeMarcus Robinson
Puka is Puka
Terence Ferguson - replaceds Kupp
Tutu remains the deep threat. But next year Mumpfield replaces Tutu.

That is how the coaches want this to play out. That is the long term plan and it explains why Tutu only got a 1 year deal.

It also explains why they didn’t resign Demarcus Robinson @Memphis Ram

.

You don't pay a wr $10m for the year to stand on the sideline except for the one play he catches a ball.

That was his role last year.

.
If the Rams play more 12 personnel, like has been reported, who does Tutu replace? Adams? Nacua?

That’s the plan. It’s been reported many times.

A ten million one year deal is not a huge contract for a receiver. To Kroenke it’s peanuts. It’s a hedge against Ferguson not panning out and forcing the Rams to play more 11 personnel. I’m guessing that since the Rams said they considered taking Ferguson in round 1 if they couldn’t trade out, that they see him as a big piece of the offense.

Demarcus Robinson got 4 mill last year, 10 mill is a big $$ commitment, in fact his 10 mill cap hit is only just behind Davante Adams 12 mill for most on the team (amongst WR)

I love this forum but don't post very often. However, discussion threads like this are perplexing and this one is up to 23 pages.

It's not a particularly bold/rash statement to say this organization knows what they are doing. It would be troll-worthy to say otherwise.

McVay has said publicly Tutu was under-utilized in the offense. They consciously gave him a new contract. I trust/expect they have a plan to utilize him effectively and can't wait to see it!

No one is perfect, so if in future (retrospect) it doesn't pan out, criticism is warranted. In the meantime... let's see what McVay has up his sleeve and enjoy the ride!

My concern is that every time the offense has relied on him due to Kupp or Nacua being out, the offense has looked like an old mower sputtering and backfiring.

But I suppose if Nacua stays healthy this season the offense will be ok. Hopeful but not gonna get excited until he shows he can consistently produce.

I mean it is a discussion board.... I agree with what you're saying, and imagine most do. We can sit back and wait on everything to see how it turns out. We still need something to talk about in the meantime.
Love your positive attitude, please post more often!!!

How many other options did they have in free agency? Teams were signing their own free agent receivers.

Either way, who does he replace? He can’t play Kupp’s role. Kupp was basically a move TE. He’s not replacing Adams or Nacua. So he’s essentially still the fourth receiver. He’s likely to still see limited snaps unless Ferguson or another TE doesn’t fill Kupp’s former role.

Have we ever heard McVay saying anything even slightly negative about his players? I remember him praising Noteboom after they signed him. I don’t put a lot of faith into anything they say. Now if someone like Jourdan reports that Tutu is tearing it up in camp, like she reported about Puka, then that gets my attention. McVay won’t do that because he wants to keep it secret as long as possible.

McVay and Snead always play it close to the vest. They are very good at being completely boring with their regimented interviews. They always praise players, even when they want them gone like Ernest Jones. If they don’t praise their play, they praise their character.

When it comes to Snead, I’ve never heard anyone use so many words to express so little.

Kupp and Ferguson don't seem very similar. I'm also not ready to slide Ferguson in as a starter just yet. Tutu got 10 million. He's gonna see the field a lot more this year. No reason to pay him that if they planned on him being less.

Kupp isn’t a tight end but he blocked as well as any move tight end in the league. Plus he’s the main reason McVay switched to so much 11 personnel after favoring 12 in Washington. It’s not always about the position as much as it’s about putting the best players on the field.

Yeah that was more a criticism of Ferguson lol. Scouting reports say he's not much of a blocker.

How do you know that this (your idea) is the way the Rams coaches want it to play out?

Who knows what other options, because they signed Tutu before free agency even began. They chose him over keeping Kupp, re-signing Demarcus etc. Its not like they tested the market and settled on him. He was clearly their #1 target.
Bizarre but we will see

For his rook season Ferguson I imagine will be limited to being the move TE. Figure Higs will be the TE1 and inline, and the move role will be a camp competition between Allen and Ferguson. Parkinson probably backs up Higs.
