Tutu Atwell’s rookie season will end prematurely and without a single reception. Sean McVay told reporters Monday that Atwell suffered a shoulder injury against the Texans that will require surgery. He will be placed on injured reserve and miss the rest of the season.

The injury occurred on a punt return in the second half of Sunday’s game against Houston. He was immediately ruled questionable to return and never got back on the field after heading to the locker room.

This actually may work out best for the Rams and Tutu. We get to use his spot on the 53 for somebody who can actually make a positive contribution and Atwell gets some time to reflect on what he needs to do to become a NFL quality player.

Hope he spends a lot of time in the film room and comes back next year ready to go.

And speaking of "go", GO RAMS!!

Rams rookie class off to a rough start ?

Cripes. Really hard to see how the hell he injured his shoulder on that play, I'll have to re-watch it.

I've tried to be a good sport re. the Atwell pick, but man, he sure hasn't shown much as a PR.

He looked decent as a WR in preseason-- gotta hope Titu is better as a WR than as a PR/KR.

It's probably best for him.
He can go home and get on the juice.
That's about his only chance to play this game.

Go and come back next year doing your best Steve Smiff impression or don't come back at all.

I don't know. it looks like Ernest Jones and Robert Rochelle could be quality defensive starters, all three seventh round picks made the 53-man roster and Jacob Harris (a project) seems to have a special skill-set as a pass-catcher. However, Atwell and the Brown-brothers have yet to show anything.

He needs two things:

An attitude adjustment. Being a rookie in the NFL is a lot harder than most realize. The jump in expectations of the team is something that some young players struggle with. From reports that is exactly what is happening. In the second year things begin to slow down for them. Next year will be crucial for Tutu. If he can't adjust then there are speed guys in every draft. Hell, they can use Funk in that WR role next year.

He needs to build up his body to bulk up and strengthen as he rehabs. Tutu must make the NFL a 12-month job. If he doesn't he won't last long. But I for one will give him another year to show he's able to handle the NFL. In college, good enough was good enough, but in the NFL good enough isn't.

Benny Sko looked pretty good as a possession receiver. Rochell has been learning on the fly, but still looks good. Earnest Jones is already starting. Funk played well until his injury. The others were assumed to need a year to develop when they were drafted. By all accounts they are all doing well. Only Atwell seems to be struggling but the jury is out on him until next year.

I think BBIII will probably begin to take snaps from Robinson after the bye. If he looks good then the Rams can release Robinson and save over $4M in cap to be used toward all the FAs they need to sign.

The bottom line is IMO no worries with this year's draft class.

.

never expected him to touch the ball on offense this season.

he never looked comfortable as a punt returner.

hopefully he bulks up when we see him again next season. and we see him play as a wr.

strange that the rams would use him as a punt returner when he never did it in college and looked bad every time he did it for the rams.

I am disappointed Atwell didn‘t contribute much as a returner, but that is not what got him drafted in the second round.

It was always going to be tough for him to get WR snaps this year.

With this injury…

“What do we have in Atwell“? is set-up to be a long debated topic all off-season.
