Quite a few big time guitar players, have taken lessons from Satriani.
He must be one hell of a teacher as well.

The crew had taken a break (lunch?) when Van Halen arrived. When he was alone studying the arrangement, he decided to change the song so that he could rock harder in his solo. Jackson came back and ddie told him about the changes and he liked it better. Van Halen recorded his part within 30 minutes and all he asked or was a case of beer and some food. He also asked that he be given no credit at all on the album.

I knew Eddie and his brother and David when they were playing at parties as Mammoth in the Pasadena area. The first big gig they had as Van Halen was at the Starwood On Santa Monica Blvb in Hollywood and I went to see them. I knew right then that they would be famous one day.

Time to show his boy some love. Wolfgang is an absolute song writing monster and has chops to make his father super proud.

EVH said that his son had far more musical talent than he did, and he may not be wrong. Wolfgang writes and records everything you hear on his 2 (VERY good) albums to date.

Michael Anthony's always been my favorite member of that band.
I'm so glad he could hook up with Sammy Hagar after he was unceremoniously dumped for a family member.

Yeah when I was a kid there weren't many pop types I liked but Prince was always top of the list. So many great songs.

Nowadays I'm partial to songs with leads that have a lot of melody in them. This is one of my all time favorites:

Jodi Porter guitarist with Bell Tower, (later of Fountains of Wayne) on Lost in Hollow and Outshine the Sun.

Something strange popped up on my YouTube algorithms;
Johnny Depp doing an amazing job on a solo with some nylon strings on a song by Paul McCartney called My Valentine.
I knew he was in some funky band but I didn't know he could play like that.
Natalie Portman is looking pretty good in the video too. :)

Are you talking about the 1976 gig with UFO, the first-time they played mostly originals? That was one historic event.
What a gig that would have been with two of the greatest rock guitarists tearing it up, Eddie and Schenker are the same age Schenker just broke before Eddy due to circumstance. Both are metal/hard rock Mount Rushmore.

I liked Depp's band P with Gibby Haynes, Flea, and Steve Jones amongst others played on that project. Depp lived with Jeff Beck for a while they were buddies, can't hurt to be around Beck

No this night they played behind a band called sorcerer... they were also very good as they played rock and did magic tricks at the same time. I actually liked them as much as Van Halen. I do think it was 1976 though. I did see UFO at another time at the Troubadour or the whisky can't remember which.
