H

Has been hurt twice this year... so I am looking at this year and thinking it's not going to get better.
That's fair but I think it has been the same ankle injury. Suffered early in Camp (August), then re-injured early in September and, then again, against Seattle in November.

If that's the case, I would be inclined to give Havenstein credit for battling through one injury for an entire pre-season and regular season ... and, hopefully a post-season.

He's at a point where he can't stay healthy and gets beat more often by speed rushers than he used to.
He's getting beat more by speed rushers based on what?

I just looked at his total pressures allowed in 2024 and he's allowing less pressure per snap than in 2022 and 2023.

I just watched the highlights from Sunday's game and on a few of Nacua's highlights, Stafford was hurried or flushed out of the pocket by Hav's guy. So just saying if he drops off a bit more it could be a disaster.

He is older so I agree that if he drops off that wouldn't be good.

But to be clear, there are no numbers that show he's dropped off any. Every OT is going to occasionally get their QB hurried. He's credited with 14 total pressures allowed (9 hurries, 3 sacks, 2 hits) for the season. But as mentioned above, he has a better pressure allowed per snap rate than the last two years.

Havenstein is a monster in the Run game. He and Dotson on the right side provide a lot of beef an power.

Love me some Havenstein but I'm afraid father time will catch up to him probably sooner than later. Our Rams need to find a better contingency than McClendon.

If the Rams decide to sign AJ they could still draft a LT up high if one falls to them, and start AJ & Hav in 2025 on the edges with the kid chilling on the bench. This ensures they're not dealing with a kid LT giving up free runs at Stafford's back. And it gives them some flexibility, as AJ can move to RT when Hav leaves after the 2025 season. Or if the kid isn't up for the blindside AJ stays at LT and the kid takes RT.

Problem with that strategy is it requires a LT to fall to them, and they look like they're gonna be in that wildcard hopeful group so we're talking high teens. Now maybe they can hit on a 3rd or 4th round project, but that's pretty hard to do with the most important spot on the line. It happens but it's not like the Rams are gifted at selecting OL or anything. Also Hav is one of those rare dudes who has that blue collar mentality, i.e. he isn't looking to make as much as he can but rather has always been paid at a level the Rams appreciate him at. But that said I do figure we're looking at a new RT as well as having a new LT when Hav's contract runs out.

I would love to see the Rams take a LT high in this draft. But it just feels unlikely right now because they can get more impact for 2025's season by going corner or wideout and adding speed to this roster. And because once again they're not in that top ten range where you have a reasonable chance of getting one of those dancing bear MFers.

If they let him go and they draft another Greg Robinson or Jason Smith it would be such a disaster. AJ is good enough to start in the NFL and that should be good enough for the Rams. They don't need all superstars.
Hard to afford all super stars

Kind of depends on what kind of a deal they sign him to. If he's getting paid like a top 10-15 LT, then they'd be drafting a RT

Well at first Jackson would probably play LT because most rook LTs don't exactly kill it year one. But from there it doesn't matter, as the kid would come with five years of control, so if you hit on him and ink him a year out you have a good four years of control. Year two and beyond if the kid has the feet to project to being a top LT that is where he will play.

Panthers are a good example there. I've always liked Moton and he's got the feet for the left side but they bumped him over when they brought the kid in.

If you're signing AJ, you're going to be paying him 20 mill per, it's unlikely they then want him to flip to RT considering he hasnt played RT in the NFL, (I dont think he played it in college either)
Now if they franchise him, and cant sign him to a more friendly deal I could see it, but they would still have until June/Jul sign him long term

He just keeps getting better and better. He and Hoecht seem to have a similar developmental curve. Later bloomers that just keep on improving. I'd sign him ASAP while he is still semi affordable as I do think he will keep on improving and vastly out perform any contract in short order. It is always hard to predict how players will react once paid, though. But AJ is already a top 15 LT. You can win with that for sure. So I am not so sure I'd want to invest a 1st rounder at the LT position. We have a short window to win with Stafford. We need our 1st round pick playing, and ideally at a position of need (boy would it be great to add a legit CB to this secondary), not sitting on the sidelines. We already have Jonah Jackson and Joe Noteboom both getting paid tons of money to function as backups. How much prime capital are we going to sink into offensive linemen that do not even start? True, we need depth at both tackle positions, but I'd prefer to bolster the o-line in round 3 rather than round 1 (we don't have a 2nd round pick as of now).

I disagree. If your other OT is a high pick under 5 years of control it means the cost balances out. A team isn't going to say "oh you make 20M per so you have to be the LT period end of story." What they're going to do is put the best OT on the left side. That first year I agree it will be Jackson. But thereafter it would be the better OT, which, one would hope would be the high draft pick.

Rams are fortunate to have had Hav, been so consistently good.

I worried about him initially. When you don't have to bring a guy up unless he's missing time is a huge tell in my book. He's been solid.
