Imo we need a whole new LB crew. I LOVE Barron, Olgetree is ok, but we basically have 2 safties playing MIDDLE LINEBACK IN A 3-4!! They dont fit this D, and its a big part of why we get gashed up the middle constantly. Quinn is nobodies linebacker, and Barwin looks like the only LB we have that fits.

Team seems like a jack of all trades kinda unit right now. We need to add plenty (guard, tackle, two edge rushers, a nose tackle, maybe 2 corners). With so many open upgrades I doubt that you will see them getting rid of Barron or tree, who aren't horrible at their positions. I think you see them continuing to evaluate what we have and upgrading where the cupboard is bare first. Inside linebacker may be the least of our worries.

Makes sense and I think most here knew that (the current players might not all fit into the new scheme).

But... it was what it was and - for the most part - Phillips has been able to make it work quite effectively. Going into yesterday's game, the Rams defense averaged 18.0 PPG. Pretty darned good.

NO will be another big test... let's see how the defense holds up against them. I am sure Phillips will make some adjustments and have the players full attention during practice this week.

If they still perform poorly... I'll begin to be concerned.

Well that's not gonna happen, both barron and tree are signed for multiple years .

Barron and tree are making plays and playing well in my opinion . Most of the big runs they have given up are because of the D line being too aggressve and running past the play .

That being said yes Quinn needs to go, he is a good rotation player but not a starting olb. Barwin we need to resign, he has been playing well and adds leadership .

They invested a lot on offense last year, now Wade Phillips needs his guys. Sorry, you need a pass rushing 3-4 OLB. Barwin and Quinn are non existent. I'm not saying you're going to find Demarcus Ware and Von Miller like he had in Denver, but these guys are both washed up. Quinn takes the longest routes to the QB I've ever sen.

Barron is playing great and Olgetree isn't going anywhere, for better or worse.
We need to move Olgetree outside imo.

Btw Barwin has looked mostly bad all year.

Really the last few years have been heavily offense focused. Not that I (we) should really be mad though, we are clearly a better team for it, even if our defense has regressed.

I agree, they'll have to be efficient with this transition. How do you feel about moving Ogletree to OLB and upgrading the ILB next season to kill two birds with one stone? An upgrade at NT would go far as well obviously.

It with depend on tree's ability to rush. I know he's a good Blitzer though. I'd like to draft a pass rusher first. A pure 34 guy to replace Quinn and maybe try eubakam or price at the other side.

Feel your pain....

Barron is a stud...So is Tree....I'd give Tree more time....he's finding his way....I'd partner him with Littleton....

Barron is a stud.....I'd move him to SS....move Barron to his natural position....simple huh?

Quinn....much like Tree, Quinn is finding his way....do we have the time and resources to wait and see if this guy can play like 2014 again? IDK.

Barwin is an aging player....and average at that....there is no way he comes back.

So I do agree, we may need to overhaul the B crew....

But

The D- Line is the problem (main) in the running game too....

We need a NG....nose guard....someone to pair with Brockers and Donald.

I do not see as many negative issues with Mark Barron, Alec Ogletree nor Conner Barwin's on field play this season. I am fine with them but they they can play better. For most of this season they have made some outstanding plays & held up well. This past week both Barwin (knee) & Barron missed most of last weeks practices. Even reserve Lb'er Matt Longacre missed most all practices due to a back injury. Longacre's bad back gave us n extra quantity of Rob Quinn.

There is a reason most NFL 34 "D" teams try to find a excellent OLB'er to play & perform @ the weak side post....it makes these type defenses effective. In the Rams case they simply do not have that type of player here in Rob Quinn. I would not agree with putting all the blame on the Barron/Ogletree/Barwin LB'ing performance when you exclude the big issue .....@ the exterior weakside LB'er post.

The other big issue is @ the NT post!

I would withhold judgement until after NO. Wade is going to have to pull rabbit out of hat to compensate for poor DB work due to injuries while playing a humming-on-all-cylinders Saints team.

I'm just hoping McVay stops reading his own press clippings, loses the Martz-like myopic stubbornness around forcing his plan to work, and just takes what the D is giving. There were a lot of plays out there they gave up to try for the big hitter, when methodically moving down the field (although not as fancy) is EXACTLY what our D needed to catch its breath.

Yeah, that's what had me thinking along those lines.

They have a lot of holes to fill on defense, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out next year.

This ^^ I was thinking the same thing yesterday. When the hurry up offense isn't working maybe switch it up and slow the game down. Our defense was on the field way to long at times.

Barwin was trash against the Vikings. Quinn and Barron was the best linebackers on the field.

Quinn chases down Murray from the opposite side of the field to save a touchdown he sealed off his side and got pressures, if everybody else did their jobs he would have forced Keenum into the hands of Donald or Barwin but no one else was getting any pressures besides the occasional Donald show.

Barwin on the other hand was out of. Control his edge setting was dismal and he over shot Murray on those stretch runs that’s why Wade starting flipping Quinn to the other side to counter their runs and to apply some pressure.

I don’t think Ogletree has the attitude to play the middle linebacker position in the 3-4 defense he don’t like contact at all. Honestly I would like to see Ebukam at the ILB position and have ogletree take over the Barwin spot

Zero sacks yesterday and 170 yards rushing given up.

The Vikings were also without their sensational rookie rb who had won the starting position.

Yea, we have a problem.

We are susceptible on run defense but Vikings rushing YPG since Dalvin Cook went down improved

Barwin is half assed.
Quinn looks useless.
Barron is not our biggest problem.
Ogletree is not our biggest problem.

Ditch 2.
Develop 2.
Draft 2.

They look like crap on wheels yesterday.
I do admit.
Not their best game.
Pretty badly exposed.
Maybe they just freaked out when they realized they lost 2 defensive backs behind them?

No surprise coming from me but Quinn has done nothing all season . I don't care how much he gets paid because even if it was league minimum it would be too much . He completely runs himself out of the play and never has contain .
Yeah he ran down Murray only because he left a hole that I could've run through. He had a chance to make a play on Keenum yesterday but instead of tackling him he swiped at the ball . It would have to drive the coaches crazy to watch the game film on him because it's like groundhog day . Go back and re watch the game like I do and he's either on the ground or 5 yards behind the QB . He's either completely washed up or has lost his desire to play . I keep hoping it changes but the past two years and 10 games this year say otherwise. JMHO

sorry for the poor vid quality.. but perhaps a good thump'n ILB would have helped on this play IDK? but man did our NT got handled on this play
