Yeah that's my assumption. Rib cartilage damage can be extremely painful but can be played with.... as long as a team doctor doesn't puncture your lungs with a shot before game time at least.

Maybe similar to when Akers came down on the ball vs Philly and damaged his cartilage, except AD had Russ come down on his. Only thing is he was complaining about not being able to catch his breath. That's why I thought fractured rib, can that a symptom of cartilage damage?

Hopefully its just a pain tolerance thing, but knowing AD even if it was broken he would throw on a flak jacket and play next week. No doubt in my mind. You work hard all year to get to this point.

Conspiracy theory but that team doctor on the chargers was the most competent person on that staff even he new to start Herbert over Taylor and took matters into his own hands.
