49ers could be starting a historically difficult stretch

As the 9-1 49ers prepare to face the 8-2 Packers, 8-2 Ravens, and 8-2 Saints, they could be embarking on the most difficult three-game, late-season stretch that any modern NFL team has ever endured.

Via Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com, no team in the Super Bowl era has had a trio of consecutive games against teams that have won at least 80 percent of their games this late in the season.

For that to happen, the Ravens and Saints both must maintain their winning percentage of 80 percent or more. It requires the Ravens to beat the Rams on Monday night and the Saints to beat Carolina and Atlanta over the next eight days.

If those things happen, the 49ers will indeed be the first team to face a trio of teams with winning percentages of 80 percent or more at this stage of the campaign.

Even if they don’t, the stakes are high for the 49ers over the next three games. One or two losses could increase the chances that, despite their 8-0 start, the 49ers could end up losing the NFC West to Seattle.

It’s about to get interesting... The 49’ers have this stretch.

The Seahawks have the Eagles, Vikings, Rams up next.

The Vikings don’t have a cake walk either, Seahawks, Lions, Chargers, Packers, Bears.

If the Rams can “shock the world” and beat the Ravens....

Things could feel different in a few weeks... good or bad! :giggle:

if they had lost to the Cards it would be panic city in SF. i do see them fading but they control their own destiny which should motivate them to play at least .500 coming down the stretch.

Talk shit about the 4ers all ya want, they are really good and their HC is up and coming. He's got to be the leader for HCOTY.

Garrapollo is turning out to be worth the middle of the road second round pick for sure.

I like stats like this. Something that’s never happened in 50 years and requires 3 more things to make it happen

odds are very high that it doesn’t happen. That would mean Ravens lose to Rams or Saints lose to Carolina and Atlanta.

maybe the football gods are smiling on us on Monday night.

The Whiners are the most complete team in the league.
The are injured up and still winning.
Jimmy G defeats the rush with One of the quickest releases in the league.
But, he is also their biggest weakness.
When pressures he doesn’t see the coverage well or stairs receivers down and throws pics.
At this point I want NO to win homefield for the playoffs so SF has to go on the road.

we could use a little luck from the football Gods....though they have been good to us the last 3 years....

Shanahan is a good head coach. He has gotten a lot of offense out of three average running backs and mediocre receivers. The Sanders trade was good value IMO. The offensive line has been very good even without both starting tackles for a while.

They have some good players on the defensive line, but IMO, the rest have been playing over their heads. They let the Cardinals get ahead 16-0 and still trailed late in the fourth quarter.

I expect the next three weeks to be three losses for the 49ers, and the scores might not even be close.

The 49ners are a solid team. I don't think they are as good as the rams were the last two years however. They have a crazy good defensive line. There offense is solid, but not elite.

They could certainly lose some of these games... but I don't see them slipping out of the playoffs. But we can hope.

Coming back from 16-0 then a drive killing tipped pass INT in the 4th Q then putting together a game winning drive as time is running out is something good teams do. Yeah the Cardinals aren't formidable, but this was one of those "any given Sunday" games and they won it.

This is going to be an interesting year in the NFCW. We could see 3 teams with 11 or more wins and I don't recall that ever happening. Although it probably has it doesn't come to mind.

Mostly fair assessment @Ellard80 but I will say this.

I've watched some highlights of the 49ers this year on the 7-10 minutes clips that show a lot more than just scoring plays. It's evident to me that the O isn't just solid, that's backed up by the points they put up.

#2 on O for points scored and #2 on D for points allowed. Yeah it's against less than elite teams, and those rankings will change but this is a well coached team with an excellent DL and an excellent QB.

This three game run is going to be a big test. I'd be shocked if they win all 3 but not if they won 2. IMO they are winning 13 games this year. If they only play 500 ball like @dang said that's 12 wins.

The NFC post season is going to be WAY more entertaining than the AFC's lol.

How about when their WR literally tackled the DB while he was intercepting the ball and the DB WAS CALLED FOR DPI??!! The fix was in for the comeback. I wouldn’t give the Whiners too much credit...

IMO the Ravens are the most complete team in football and we have them next! o_0

Good News is the Niners have them afterwards and I think the Ravens will destroy them.
