49ers planning to go hard after Kirk Cousins?

Jimmy Garoppolo would be a nice fit in the Shanahan offense. Their second and fourth round picks should get the job done. That's a high price to pay for a guy with limited starts, but you always have to overpay at QB.

I think it's part of the Patriot Way.

Show only enough of your backup to intrigue others. They did it with Mallet and now Garappolo. Perhaps Cassell before them, but he actually had a fair amount of starts in Brady's absence.

Just having Shanahan gives makes them a threat again. I have always felt that he was the most accomplished, and ready coach for any new team out there. I hate that he didn't thumb his nose at the Niners like so many others did. He is more confident than those other coaches, who wanted a more ideal situation, I guess. I hope the Rams got the right guy.
Wait.. have I missed something? Has Shanny already confirmed he's going to take the position once the playoffs are done for him? I'm still a firm believer he's not going to do jack with them.

I could be wrong but I feel like Garoppolo is on a different level than those guys.

Well he can't commit until his team gets bounced or win it all. Would put himself in a bad spot if he said he agreed to the job and the Falcons go lay an egg today.

The Niners have won the last 3 meetings between to 2 rivals. So back up ?? Did they have 3 wins & 2 against The Rams ?? To lazy to look up.

Colt McCoy played for the Niners. He has looked good as a back up ?
What is the franchise tag rule ? How many years can they tag a player ??

The whiners last 3 wins all came against the Rams, they havent beaten a team other than the Rams in almost a yr and a half. Time for this to end.

The Redskins can afford to match any deal, in the event that they don't place the exclusive tag on him. They have something like $67 million in cap room heading into FA. And Kirk's franchise tag number is insanely high.

Since the Redskins plan on using the exclusive tag, it won't matter, but the 49ers have 20 million more in cap space. That gives them enough room to front load a deal in a way that would be crippling to the Redskins salary cap (possibly even unmatchable). Both teams have some players that they could cut to make some room, but really, the Redskins aren't going to match a 5 year 120 million dollar deal with 50-60 million payable in the front year.

There was a link on another forum saying he will accept the job

I don't know. Brady is getting long in the tooth.
If I'm Belichick, there is no way I give up Garoppolo if I think he's my next starter.
It's a tough call.

I would be going after Huntley in GB. He's going to be riding the pine for many more years, unless Rodgers goes down.
He's still going to cost a heck of a lot more than the mid/late rnd pick GB payed for him, but he's looked very good in his short body of work. He's also sat behind Rodgers for 2 years already. Learning from one of the best coaching staffs out there.

What would you have to give up to get him?

Maybe the best play for them is to sign Cutler after he gets cut to a one year deal and draft a QB the next year when the class is much better. I think spending the number 2 overall pick on a QB in this class is a bad idea.

Great question. I really don't know.
I was blown away with what Minny gave up for Bradford.
The one thing we do know. QBS don't come cheap and you need a good one to win consistently.
I could see a guy like Huntley going for a 2nd rnd pick. It wouldn't surprise me at all.
Garoppolo would be much more, if even possible. I'm with you, Garoppolo is head and shoulder better than guys like Mallet

Cutler could be a good fit as well. Good call. If Mike liked him, why wouldn't Kyle?

I would much rather trade a second round pick on Huntley and be wrong than use the number 2 overall pick on a QB that seems like a reach.

Bradford is a solid QB, not elite, and went for a first and a fourth. Honestly it looks like a solid investment for the Vikings, as did the Alex Smith trade for the Chiefs. Solid QBs demand a lot in trades.

I never saw the appeal of Mallett. Dude was just a Howitzer with no capability of aiming.
Jimmy G is more of an accuracy and touch type of passer.

Jimmy reminds me so much of Romo. I feel like that would fit so well in a Shanahan offense.

I mean, just watch all his plays against Miami... this is not a highlights reel, it's every pass:

Figure the Browns will trade their second #1 (10th) for him.

He's got good athleticism, quick release, good arm talent. The guy is a good talent. Him getting injured would scare me a bit. Not sure I would part with the 10th pick, but pick 33 and a 4th would be a no brainer for me. It would also be a very nice haul for the Pats.

The 49ers aren't going to offer that deal. They're not going to pay that much money upfront.(in the unexpected event that he gets the non-exclusive tag)
