As much as I love what the Dodgers have done within the rules as they are right now, I get the souring from many other lower funded team’s fans when their team simply can’t keep up with the upper tier teams.

Oh well. Sucks to be them.

Yes and no. I believed that as gospel until I saw the chart of what teams have in revenue and what they spend.

The Tampa Bay Rays only spend 29% of their revenue on player salaries as compared to 102% for the Mets and 72% for the Dodgers. The Yankees make 50% more than the Dodgers in revenue ($750M Yankees vs $500M Dodgers), but the Yankees spend less on raw dollars and as a percentage than the Dodgers

There are no teams earning less than $250M if I remember correctly so much of this is the new billionaires who realize that you can make nearly 10x on the investment AND see year over year appreciation while doing a Major League and putting out a shitty product.

MOST teams COULD compete, but choose not to.

That’s closer to the truth than the Dodgers are buying wins.

It is getting ridiculous though. You have teams that have $35M payrolls and others over $250M. It makes no sense. They should do what the NFL does, at least more significant revenue sharing and none of this deferred payment nonsense so you could enforce a true soft cap with a luxury tax applied to the top teams.

We could also institute a floor. There are no more broke owners in baseball.

When the Rays are only spending 29% of revenue on their roster, that’s nothing to do with the top 6 spending teams.

Agree with deferred money and better revenue sharing. But I get why some owners don’t want that when the Rays, A’s and other franchises won’t spend the money on salaries.

Yeah there definitely needs to be a floor.

Dude is your avatar when Stafford was yelling at (Akers?) to get his ass up to the Line of Scrimmage so they can clock it after that Kupp catch at the end of that playoff game vs the Bucs?

More of a Yankee fan when I was young, which was kind of rare for a kid from Queens in the late-1960's / early-'70s when the Mets were the far better team. For some reason, I went with the underdog; and back then, that was the Yankees.

However, it was never a problem for me to root for both the Yankees and Mets. Back then, there was no inter-league play; and for decades, when one team was good, the other was usually bad. Plus my father and most of my family and friends were Mets' fans.

Still love the Game but not MLB as much anymore. Just worn-out over a period of years.
Between performance enhancing drugs (unregulated for years), free agency and no real salary cap (again, for years), the bull-shit 60-game COVID season (the bare minimum for players to get 100% of their salaries), the Commissioner and League being either unable or flat-out refusing to punish a championship team (Houston) that admitted to cheating and Analytics (UGH!), I don't watch very much baseball.

I actually prefer the NFL off-season to MLB and the NBA (many of the same complaints).
The players strike that cost the post season, killed my love of the game.

All the other things you mentioned just reinforced my apathy.

I’m getting back into it, but the Steroid era and not punishing the Astros really sent me packing.

It's the big strut run he did down the field after the big bomb touchdown to Van Jefferson to start the 2021 season against the Bears. Basically put the NFL on notice that year. Seems like a decade ago already.
