It wouldn't be a classy move, but if they tendered him and then later cut him would his contract count against the cap?

Such a move suggest to me that they've got his position filled and we just don't know it yet.
Yeah, but Rams have to do what they have to do. No team out there does right by everyone, but the Rams do seem to try to moreso than a lot of other teams. Don't think Hoecht will be back unless his asking price is low.

Is it just me or is the Safety releases and draft making this offseason rich with talent for safety?
Not sure there's much value at safety in the draft, I thought I read it's a pretty bad year which makes the releases that much better.

Hoecht just doesn’t fit in a 3-4 defense. He was painful to watch at times. I know he has potential to be really solid somewhere else but I am glad it looks like he’s gone.

At almost $5M to for-sure hold onto Hoecht? I don't know.

Curious to see what the Rams do at Edge.
Hmm, perhaps I misunderstood. I thought it was 3m
I wonder how he compares to Dotson. That’s a reasonable contract if he’s very good.

Edit: PFF ranks him 8th among guards.
Apparently they rank Dotson as #2, but that has been for 1 year. Really wish we could sign Dotson to something similar to this rather then 16m/year.

Ironically though, the Rams offered more $$.
IIRC he wanted to be the 1st player to win a ring with 3 different teams.
More guaranteed $$ or total contract $$? I don’t buy the 3 rings take but not sure my opinion matters.

Different amounts for different team rights.

$3M would have given the Rams the opportunity to match an offer but no draft pick compensation if they passed on matching because Hoecht was an undrafted free agent.

$4.9M is a second round tender. If the Rams didn’t match, they would get the signing team’s 2nd round pick. Extremely unlikely, which is why I wrote “for sure to hold on to”.

He'd have made more in the first 3 years with Ram

Meh... people writing shit out their asses and ton of so called draft or football experts like Jake EllenBooger that write complete shit and they'll intrigue someone who parrots the same nonsense. At the least there is at least 8 pretty damned good prospects this draft.

Interesting... who are the 8?

Tyler Nubin Minnesota

Kamren Kinchens Miami (FL)

Beau Brade Maryland

Cole Bishop Utah

Javon Bullard Georgia

Calen Bullock USC

Jaden Hicks Washington State

Malik Mustapha Wake Forest

Tykee Smith Georgia

There's 9. However there is some late round potential gems like Kenny Logan Jr Kansas, Sione Vaki Utah, and Tray Taylor Air Force that are intriguing.

Of course it depends on the type of defense a specific team is running for certain ones etc. but to say the draft is short on talent is very lazy by someone.

...

I thought Bishop and Smith both looked really good at the televised Senior Bowl practices, and the Game.

Agreed. It's short on 'big star potential', not overall talent. Lots that could play a good role on our defense. I definitely assume we will be signing one veteran and drafting someone as well.

Praying maybe we could snag Smith with our 5th or 6ths before the senior bowl but that seems highly unlikely now! lol

Talent will show itself unfortunately.

100%!

I think that's going to be the case with CB as well, get a legit vet to pair with some a talented rookie and our somewhat tenured depth at CB.

Lake and Yeast are no slouches either as depth at S.

Yes I know it's a highlight video, obviously it doesn't mean much as far as overall ability, but I'm a sucker for a hard hitting safety. Literally nobody talking about this guy.

Watched versus CSU one night and he was all over the damned field. Absolutely nobody talking about him.
