I would love to see this. Mascots are selected because they're fierce and respected. Not having a mascot representing native Americans feels stupid as fuck.

Which is par for the course I suppose in this modern age of glorifying weakness and victimhood.

A mascot representing Native Americans is absolutely fine. Calling a team the "R*dskins" is not. There are so many Native American tribes, so many ways to represent their strength, ingenuity, and pride...and Washington went with one of the most racist names that you can call a Native American.

Yes, they had the name for a while, but it was a different time when they made it. This is the modern day. Name themselves after a tribe near Washington; hell, name themselves the "Blackfeet" or something creative. Hell, if I know; I'm just a Rams fan. Just don't do the equivalent of calling a team the Washington N-words.

Blackfeet are from Montana. Would be better to ask the Pamunkey and Rappahannock Tribes what team name would honor their people. They’ll probably ask for a new logo also since it doesn’t recognize their Tribes.

What I heard is that they named them Redskins after the fact that the Native Americans in that region had red paint on them when they went into battle.

Don't know if that is true or not, but that wouldn't be racist imho.

Fair enough. Only said that because of the Blackfeet family requesting the logo. I mean, fate, name them the Tribe. Or something other than a clearly racist name.

It's not true. Settlers called them "red-skinned" the moment they met them. They've been portrayed with red skin in media (Peter Pan) and in sports (the Cleveland Indians) for a while. They were called "Redskins" because of the skin pigment, nothing more, nothing less.

Before anyone goes further accusing me of "political correctness", or "wokeness", ask yourselves this: would you want a team where a race's skin pigment was the nickname of the team for no other reason than being part of a mascot or logo? If this was black, white, Asian, or Mexican, would it be any more wrong than this?

We can stop here, please.

The problem is the Cleveland Indians had to change their name based on pressure from the Left's woke machine. What exactly is racist about their name? I guess they would have to call them the "Indigenous People"?

We have had local HS's change their name as well because they have Native American related names. Our school went from "Indians" to "Big Red"

So I think it's a bit overblown. I have read articles about Native Americans who were proud of the Redskin name and depiction.

Promised @Dodgersrf that I wouldn't get into it further, so I won't.

Always liked that classic indian head logo. Never was bothered by the name Redskins. What really annoys me now is some of the stupid media saying the Commodes won a Super Bowl. "OH NO YOU DIN'T!!!! :bird:

100% Merlin. These simpletons can’t even think for themselves.

On a different subject nothing more fierce than some bad ass Native Americans. Many natives I know in New Mexico were upset they switched which they felt represented them and was their team. Yeah maybe not their tribe but natives as a whole, who I’ve found for the most part are pretty awesome spending a ton of time on their Res’s.
