That’s what I was told here when I asked if ADs contract counts against the cap in the next three years and I was told it does.

So I was going by that.
As I said earlier, I think you have to let the Donald contract go because it's unique in how the Rams rewarded him following the Super Bowl.

The answer to my question above, using Dotson's contract as an example, is No.
If Dotson retires following the 2024 season, the full amount of his current 2025 and 2026 cap hits will Not apply to the Rams' salary cap.

It's not a big deal. Fuck the Niners! Go Rams!!!

That is contrary to what I copied from NFL.com

No, it's not.

What you copied referred to "Dead Money". The non-guaranteed salary, in my example, is NOT Dead-$.

We are going around in circles here, and it surprises me. This is Salary Cap 101.

Just use common sense. If a team signs a player to a 5-year / $100M contract with $30M guaranteed; and that player retires after one year, you're telling me the team would have future salary cap hits for the full $100M? Come-on.

Better yet ask a poster with an opinion that you respect. Use my Dotson example / question.

Respect has nothing to do with it. AD is counting 25/25/9 against the cap as a dead hit for the next three seasons. Does he really have 59 million in guaranteed payment on his contract?

$8 million signing bonus $9.6 million option bonus $6.16 million restructure bonus. and $1.2 million of his base pay was guaranteed. That's just this year. $25 million

Next year the same roster and option bonus but the restructure bonus goes down to $1.7 million total of $19.3 million

2026 is the same of 2025 with $19.3 million

Gotta love those restructures kicking the can down the road :) But it's the cost of doing business. Now the Rams can ask for some of the bonuses back including the $24 million remaining in the signing bonus since he won't be playing the years those would be "earned" in. But I highly doubt they do that with AD.

They're not gonna ask for money back but they're not gonna pay anything more to him. They're not gonna ask for money back because they've paid only $60m of the $95m contract to him already.

They shouldn't have to pay anything else because the money was only guaranteed if he was on the roster this year. Surely?

You're repeating the same wrong argument.

You really need to get off the Donald contract. I don't believe you are understanding it.
It's a unique situation that you are trying to apply to other contract situations.

You're also not understanding what other poster's are explaining.

God Bless and Good Luck.

Correct as I said in what you quoted the dead money is bookkeeping for what was already paid. Andy other payments that were scheduled are paused in case he returns to the game.

Ouch for the Chiefs if he in fact was the driver. Highly likely increasing their chances of taking a WR in the 1st IMO.

What an idiot..... I mean, Derrick Thomas was a Chief, you'd think this would emphasized to rookies coming in.

What makes it worse is that he left the scene of the incident. If he had stayed there, held his hands up and showed some remorse he might have got away with a fine and a suspension.

Now it’s going to be far worse, if it was indeed him.

I saw pictures of him leaving the crash scene as well as pictures from earlier in the day with the same black sweatshirt on. If the reporting is accurate it doesn't look good. The only question is, was he driving? According to the reporting, he owns the corvette and leased the lambo and the lease agreement states he's the only one allowed to drive it. Is there no limit to the stupid shit NFL players do? Still have to see how the investigation turns out.

Early 20's + $$$$$ = dumb decisions

So could we refrain from a bunch of AD contract/dead money talk on this thread?
