Lol, some 49er fans are talking about a curse now. Maybe Debartolo sold his soul for those championships and the devil is collecting?

Satan: "I'll let your team win now but when the new century comes I will tease your fans with great football every few years for eternity until the biggest games. Then pull the rug out to totally devastate them".

DeBartolo: "Do it! I'll be long gone by then!"

So they will be going into next season with Lance and Purdy whenever he's available? Good luck with that. Lance is far from ready and there is some doubt that he will ever be. Purdy may not be ready till late in the season.

Not to mention, there is usually a reason why guys are drafted so late. Purdy's shortcomings were masked by the same system that masked Garoppolo's deficiencies. Its possible he won't have the same success. I have to wonder if they will go after one the many quarterbacks that will be available?

Wolford may be available

Shows how stupid their fan base is. They can't recognize that while Eddie bent the rules he also hired the right coach and supported a long and prestigious run of winning.

It starts with the owner. So they're not cursed, rather they just have an owner who is middle of the road at best.

You're correct about the owner, but I enjoy them believing they are cursed

They didn't have a salary cap back then and I think that helped. I was looking back at the salary cap history. It started back in 1995 and the cap was $37mil.

I've explained to Niners fans so many times that Purdy isn't that good, its just the roster and the system he plays in making him look good., but they still think he's the next Joe Montana or Brady. They are also convinced that Brady will be their QB for next year because Shanahan (arguably the most QB friendly coach in the league), will need Brady to help coach Purdy to be more like him. You can't make this stuff up.

If you recall the Niners were caught paying players under the table to stay under the cap. It was infuriating that they kept such a stacked roster and still signed top free agents. It figures they were cheating.

My wife is a whiners fan. She (before the NFCCG) compared Purdy to Kurt Warner. I said Kurt Warner is in the HOF and he engineered the best offense in NFL history (500+ points in 3 straight seasons). Wearing #13 doesn't make him Kurt Warner.

I said the kid can play but comparing him to Kurt Warner and the whiner's offense to the GSOT is insulting.

Purdy doesn't even come close to being the lint that comes off of Kurt Warner's underwear. Purdy is fucking done too since he needs tommy john surgery.

Not a good sign for Trey Lance.

49ers Players Reportedly Take Same Side On Trey Lance, Brock Purdy Debate

With the 49ers announcing yesterday that Jimmy Garoppolo isn't expected to return next season, San Francisco will likely enter their 2023 campaign with two quarterbacks dueling for the starting job.

The first, San Francisco's starter for the final eight games this season, will be Brock Purdy. 2022's 'Mr. Irrelevant' shocked the football world down the stretch, leading the 49ers to the No. 2 seed in the NFC and a conference title game appearance.

On the other side of the ring is former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance. While the high-upside, duel-threat signal caller has displayed flashes early in his NFL career, he suffered a season-ending leg injury just two games into this season.

According to Matt Maiocco of 49ers Talk, the San Francisco locker room appears to have taken an early side on the starting quarterback debate next year.

"I think there will be a lot of pissed off people in this locker room if Brock Purdy is not the starter next season," Maiocco said, referencing what he's heard from 49ers' players.

While much can change before the start of the 2023 season, if what Maiocco said is accurate, it's likely that Purdy's tangible success commanding the San Francisco offense led to the sentiment.

Although the 49ers gave up a king's ransom to land Lance in the 2021 draft, he's only suited up for 8 career games and has started just two. Additionally, he's struggled compared to Purdy in limited appearances.

Making note of the small sample size, Purdy has outclassed Lance in metrics such as completion percentage (67.1 vs 54.9), quarterback rating (107.3 vs 84.5) and touchdown-to-interception ratio (13 TD-4 INT vs 5 TD-3 INT).

Where Lance does have the definitive advantage, though, is rushing ability. In eight career games, Lance has tallied 235 yards rushing on an efficient, 4.4 yards per carry while Purdy has gained just 13 yards on 22 attempts.

Who do you think should be the 49ers' starting quarterback next season?
