I'm sure some of the X's and O's guys here on the forums have put some thought into this already.

For years we've been asking to see more 12 personnel on the field. Until yesterday the Rams played 100% from 11 personnel to start the season. Does that now change now that we've seen good success in the passing and run game coming from that grouping?

Even given the injuries when players do eventually come back do we split 11 and 12 personnel maybe 40 to 50%? The NFL is all about mismatches and teams have scouted the rams to beat their 11 personnel not their 12.

This is what it could look like once we have a healthy roster

11 Personnel
Kupp
Puka
Whittington/Robinson/Tutu
Higs/Parkinson
Williams

12 Personnel
Kupp
Puka/Robinson/Whittington/Tutu
Higs
Parkinson
Williams

Scheming correctly could put the Rams offense over the top and make them nearly impossible to stop barring injuries...

The only time I’ve ever wanted to see 12 personnel, is when our oline wasn’t cutting it.
Even then, McVay wasn’t having it. He wants to run 11.

If our oline can hold their own, keep rolling with 11.

Rams mixed it in with GREAT efficiency yesterday.
With our D.. more ball control is better, imo.

I think the 11 personnel allows McVay to mask the called out play the best ; the formation is the same on almost every play so the defense can't form any tendencies to the play calls. The 3rd receiver may also force the Defense into a Nickel defense which will create a lighter box to run against. I don't know if 2 TE's on the field will do the same

It only works if you have Kupp or Puka available, imo.

Sean is a one trick pony and his addiction to 11 personnel is hurting us. Rams make it easy for defenses to plan for us I owing what to expect all game. I'd like to see more variety especially when the running game sucks like it has.

I like how there was already a thread talking about the 12 personnel usage but this one needed to be created just to complain.

Also gotta look at the usage of Whittington. When he's running crackdowns and getting second level on blocks on the interior he's performing some of the TE usage. Him being a receiver we think 11 but this stuff can be about as clear as mud the way McVay uses dudes.

In boxing and UFC styles make fights.

Anybody remember the 2018 season when the Bears figured out the answer to our scheme and how long did it take for McVay to realize the same old wasn’t going to cut it anymore and how to adapt and add wrinkles into the scheme? The following year and Belicheat used that game tape and came up with the perfect exact setup to limit us in the SB.

Same here in this instance, professionals will eventually figure out how to scheme our 11 personnel and then what? We hold our dicks in our hands for a while?

No we have to start running 11 and 12 throughout the year depending on our opponent and what warrants which personnel more.

Some teams you just need to beat the shit out of them and run them over with 12 personnel.

Hunter Long only played 15% of the time, so the vast majority of time was still in 11 personnel.

McVay doesnt and wont run 12 personnel. they showed a stat against the 9ers that they ran near 95% last year and 100% this year

I’ve never asked for some 12 personnel mixed in there. Not one post will you find anywhere.

I doubt it stays 12 personnel once everyone is healthy. McVay should have employed 12 personnel when the Rams were facing 6 man fronts. He never did and he has undying faith in his system. He blames every failure on poor execution.

I really hoped that the Super Bowl against the Patriots would have opened his mind to being more variable but it hasn’t seemed to.

Personally I’d welcome more 12 personnel, or a healthy mix anyway. It could give Puka and Kupp a rest and save them for the playoffs.
