I'm Confused

So I saw several instances where Stafford, not in danger of taking a sack, throw a ball downfield but the receiver ran the opposite way. It was called intentional grounding on more than one occasion.

Today, Sam Darnold had 4 Rams about to sack him and he throws it 20 yards out of bounds with no receiver in the area, while he was in the pocket.

A flag comes out and I assume it's intentional grounding. But no, they F-N call the Rams for holding. The whiners ended up scoring a TD because of the free first down.

So what the heck is intentional grounding these days? I thought it was throwing a pass with no receivers in the area to avoid a sack while in the pocket.

Indoor Pizza Ovens

Any of you fellow pizza connoisseurs use one of these things? Just bought the Piezano Pizza Oven (small one that has a viewing window in the top) so that I can get my oven hot enough for the leopard spotting and perfect crust that I miss from my Italy days.

This thing is supposed to get up to 800 degrees. Hope I don't burn my house down, my wife would be impossible to live with in squalor. Might end up regretting this purchase, but the good thing is it's only a little over a hundred bucks. So guess who's gonna be having perfect pizza for the playoff game... That's right. This guy.

Just saying. Thanks to all my old friends in Game Day Chat Room today.

I appreciated you all today, and saying thank you. It's not easy putting up with me. :laugh4::clinkingbeer: With work and growing my own food, it's only been like the 3rd time I've been in there this season. I thank you all for treating me decent and with respect as always. I loved being with you all. A good time and great victory. Plus, Nucua. lol Not to mention Young stepping it up when we needed it.

I was actually surprised we didn't have more in there today. Regardless, I thank all. You know who you are. I had a great time. :thumbsup1::clinkingbeer::clinkingbeer::clinkingbeer: I'll be in next weekend even if we play on Saturday. I'll take an eto day on Friday. lol Peace guys.

If you haven't checked the Game Day chat room out, give it a try.

Wentz Hill

Did Carson just put himself into a Taysom Hill type of role in short yardage situations? He could be utilized to run those short yardage plays with a threat to throw or run with Kyren. Opens up some options IMO. He is certainly a better QB sneak option than Stafford.

Adds more to next weeks game as he has some skin vs Goff as well lol.

20 Random to the Playoffs, With Style, Thoughts!

1. Man, I'm grinning from ear to ear right now!

2. In the first half, I felt like the Rams were playing it a bit safer than the 49ers, and I didn't have much hope.

3. Seeing a lineup of mostly backups playing for, and achieving, a comeback win, though... well, it made me smile.

4. Puka Nacua is amazing. What a great kid, an amazing story, and a pleasure to watch. The Rams have two more league records!

5. Carson Wentz had some nice moments. You can see why he's had trouble staying healthy, but I'd be happy retain him as Matthew Stafford's understudy next year (and, hopefully, see him only once in Week 18 again!). He's my Offensive Player of the Week.

6. My Defensive Player of the Week is Russ Yeast. 7 tackles and 2 big pass breakups that helped preserve the win. If Jordan Fuller's ankle keeps him out, I feel pretty good about Yeast getting more snaps.

7. RETROACTIVE SPOILER ALERT:
From 20 Random Preseason Thoughts, August 2023:

17. The Rams will hit their stride after the first 6-7 games and finish with a 10-7 record, shocking many "experts" and sneaking into the postseason.

8. Pretty good, huh? And... perhaps prophetic that it was thought #17!!!

9. Ronnie Rivers ran the ball nicely. He compliments Kyren Williams well.

10. Byron Young capped off a really strong rookie campaign with his 8th sack and a game ending fumble recovery.

11. The Rams will need to add another pass rusher this offseason, but 17 sacks from two rookies - both taken in the 3rd round - bodes well for our future.

12. The NFL, the networks and the casual fan have their dream matchup: Rams vs. Lions, Stafford vs. Goff, BRING ON THE LIONS!!!

13. Fun historical fact: the Rams and the Lions have met only once in the postseason, a 31-21 Lions victory in 1952 (@oldnotdead was there, I think :laugh1:).

14. Revenge is a dish best served cold! 72 years!!!!!!!

15. The look on Sean McVay's face when Puka got the record, followed quickly by an unmistakable hand gesture meaning "get him out of there" was hilarious.

16. I'm in too good a mood to talk about the placekicking.

17. A 7-1 finish is phenomenal, and its amazing to think how close we were to winning our final 8 games.

18. I don't think that this game tells us all that much about how we'd match up against the 49ers with both teams going all out (which, of course, could happen in two weeks).

19. Have the Rams gone from plucky upstart to darkhorse contender? Stay tuned!

20. TO THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!

GAME DAY Rams at 49’ers - Game Day Thread

Week 18 - Sunday January 07, 2024

Los Angeles Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers: 4:25 PM, FOX

———

Game Day Thread

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember our core principles; we always show respect for our team and each other.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and each other.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad. We are here for FUN, not to be dragged down.

A more loosely moderated atmosphere can be found in the chat room.

Go Rams!

What was/is your favorite Rams team??

I can't help but think that this 2023/2024 Rams squad is one of the most likeable teams in Rams history. For me, they are right there with (or above) the 1999 and 2017 teams. The 1979 and 1989 team were also some of my faves.

Obviously the 2021 squad is up there as well, haha... But we traded for a lot of help on that team, and while I loved them.... I am not sure I "liked them" as much as some others.... If that makes sense?

The 2001 team was possibly the best NFL team I have ever seen, but to me they weren't as "likeable" for whatever reason. Same goes for the 2018 Rams. Probably because they weren't underdogs, and I LOVE a good underdog success story.

This years team just exudes a young and possibly naive confidence. Our young players belong here and they know it!! They play for each other, do all the dirty work to succeed and don't complain. No bad apples left on the tree, just a bunch of scrappy young Dawgs, with some HOF veterans sprinkled in. I fuggin love this team.

What is your favorite Rams team and why??

CONTEST Playoff confidence pool... 2nd edition !!

since last years event was so popular I am bringing this back again. I will set up the sportsbook to enter later today.

2nd place- 30%

3rd place- 10%

F them Picks-Again?

Ive been thinking a lot recently about this as the season went on. No one thought this team would be a decent club, let alone be above .500 and in the playoffs. I thought Maybe 7-10/8-9 range max! This draft has us on a high and no matter what happens the next few weeks, this season was fun and a success in terms of a "rebuild" Which brings me to my points

1. We basically gutted our entire team to get more draft capital in later rounds.
2. We got even more later rounds for players who were not for the team and bringing morale down/ or not wanting to try new things which seems to help a lot!
3. We still have stars in Kupp, Stafford, AD and still have Hig, and Havenstein. So Not a complete rebuild.

Now this draft class has grown into one of the best draft classes the Rams had ever. With that said, do we say F them picks again for 2024-2025-2026? Heres why!

Window for the Big 3 is closing.
We have not had a Rd1 draft since 2016- Goff
We have only 1 of our 1st rounders in last 10 years- AD
2 of our long tenured players on our roster are Hig and Havenstein. Hig was 4th rounder, and Havenstien 2nd and most of our solid players come outside of round 1.

Since we got Goff (16 draft)/Mcvay in 2017 we have been to the SB x2, and playoffs 4 times( Now 5) without a first rounder. Yes we have a few currently, but they were not ours ( Wentz could have been) and have our future ones going forward!

Do we trade our 1st rounders to get more draft pieces like more 2nd/3rd rounders for foundation players like Avila, Turner? Maybe a Solid Edge? Quite frankly 1st round players have an ego and dont pan out well. Every once in awhile you get a CJ stroud/Stafford/AD Type. Now this means we would have to trade for unused/forgotten players like Dotson was and get a FA that hate thier current teams situations (Bolles?).

If we do trade away picks we also need to convince Wentz to stay and take over when Staff retires, or get another really good backup that can win. Staff prob will go another 2-3 years then Wentz takes over for a few years( he will be 34). Do we go after a Mac Jones/Zach Wilson type( I think thier teams just suck bad and need a new start) or a vet like Jameis Winston?

What are your thought on this? I could be crazy. lol

Jaime Jaquez, Jr. - the Puka Nacua of the NBA

Pro-ready, vastly outperforming draft status (2 consecutive Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month awards as No. 18 pick), infectious enthusiasm for the game, and a great head of hair!

Broncos get warning over Russell Wilson situation: Asshole Face 'messed with the wrong guy'

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/broncos-get-warning-over-russell-wilson-situation-sean-payton-messed-with-the-wrong-guy/ar-AA1mqH7w?ocid=entnewsntp&cvid=cb2b50d452bd41ad92fbbb18614b353c&ei=16

The impending split between the Denver Broncos and quarterback Russell Wilson may get a whole lot messier than it already is.

After benching Wilson for Jarrett Stidham last week, the 35-year-old QB went public with the team’s threat to bench him weeks ago during the bye week if he did not waive his $37M injury guarantee for the 2025 season, which gets locked in this coming March.

The move didn’t sit right with the NFLPA, which sent a letter to the Broncos in November informing them that the threat made to Wilson violated the collective bargaining agreement and they could face legal action because of it.

Although head coach Asshole Face maintained that Wilson’s benching was for performance-related reasons and nothing to do with his contract, that’s not the perception around the league.

Now, Payton and the Broncos front office will likely spend the beginning part of the offseason doing damage control, trying to repair the hit their reputations took after Wilson shared his side of the story.

“Fifteen years ago, the quarterback would sit quiet and try to get on another team,” an anonymous exec told The Athletic. “When you mistreat a guy like Wilson, that ain’t going to happen. I think Sean messed with the wrong guy because (Wilson) told the story.”

While nothing has been officially announced, it’s expected that the Broncos will release Wilson in March before his injury guarantee kicks in. If he’s released with a post-June 1 designation, Wilson will carry $35.4M in dead cap, per Over the Cap.

Denver is projected to be $18.1M over the salary cap in 2024. Wilson’s release would be added to the $9.69M in dead cap the team already has after cutting Randy Gregory, Brandon McManus, Frank Clark and Montrell Washington, bringing its grand total to $45.1M.
