Gene Roddenberry and the crew of the Enterprise...............Lost In Space

Gene Roddenberry , and his wife Majel Barrett ( Nurse Chapel ) , along with Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan and DeForest Kelley, who played Nyota Uhura, Montgomery Scott and Dr. Leonard McCoy, respectively, on the classic sci-fi show ashes , and also 200 other individuals , were / are on board the Peregrine spacecraft

the space craft was suppose to make a soft landing on the moon , with all their ashes , or , well , parts of their ashes , but the space craft sprung a leak , and can no longer make a soft landing on the moon , which would have been the first soft landing on the moon ni over 50 year

Now that the moon-landing part of the mission has been abandoned, Astrobotic says it will try to keep Peregrine charged so that it can provide data for future missions. So far, the team says that around 35 hours of propellant remains to steer the craft. Once it has lost battery power, however, it will become a floating tomb

Interesting Stats

Talking heads here in LA with some interesting Rams player stats and thought it worth posting.

Rookie Avila played every snap of every offensive play of all 17 games. Did any other player on any NFL team manage that?

Mathew Stafford was the only NFL starting QB who did not fumble the ball away. Not sure about that one, but I can't recall him ever fumbling.

Refs make more than you realize

(link above)

Being an NFL ref is generally thought of as a part time job. But it really isn't. Their only real break is between the end of the Super Bowl until the middle of May, i.e. around when OTAs start.

Those idiots make more than enough for what they do. That's why there isn't a need for "fulltime" officials because they are paid an average of over $200K/year. You have to know those people are probably big into sports wagering which is a no no for players but nothing is said about officials though you would think they also would have prohibitions. Just how regulated they are is another thing entirely. IMO it's basically on the honor system, i.e. don't tell on me and I won't snitch on you.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the second year in a row, NFL players used their expertise to make determine which of their peers performed best on the field this season. Following a league-wide vote, the second annual Players’ All-Pro Team presented by OneTeam Partners was announced Wednesday by the NFL Players Association.

Thirty players earned a coveted spot on the Players’ All-Pro first team, which highlights the top performers across 23 different positions. In the coming weeks, the NFLPA will release a top 5 list that provides a more extensive look at how players voted in each category.

The guidelines and ballot for the Players’ All-Pro Team were created with an emphasis on consistency, availability and positional familiarity, including:

Only active NFL players were eligible to vote, and each player could only vote once.
Players could not vote for themselves or for their teammates.
If a player missed five or more games as of Week 15 of the season, they were ineligible for a spot on the team.
Players voted for the position group they play in and line up against on the field. For example, centers could vote for: the best center, the best nose tackle, the best interior defensive lineman and the best off-ball linebacker in the league.
For the special teams (or “core teamers”) category, various player leaders from each locker room nominated their two top players for the ballot.

McVay vs Goff

I'm not here to rip on Goff, I always liked him. Both McVay and Goff are conscientiously avoiding the entire "revenge game" narrative, as they should. They have mutual respect and approach the game with class.

Having said all that, I can't imagine there is a single person on earth with a better understanding of Goff's strengths and weaknesses than Sean McVay. As an organization, the Rams likely have move video of his tendencies than the Lions (unless Brad Holmes smuggled it out).

McVay is a savant on the offensive side of the ball, but this week we need him to channel his inner Belichik and devote some time considering defensive scheme and getting back inside the head of his former pupil.

PFT’s 2023 NFL defensive rookie of the year: Kobie Turner

PFT’s 2023 NFL defensive rookie of the year: Kobie Turner

The race for defensive rookie of the year featured a couple of names throughout the year. By the time the dust settled, an unlikely candidate emerged as the winner.

The PFT defensive rookie of the year for 2023 is Rams nose tackle Kobie Turner.

A third-round pick from Wake Forest, Turner led all rookies with 9.0 sacks, a significant feat for any interior defensive lineman. He also tied the Rams’ rookie sack record, set nine years ago by Aaron Donald.

Turner finished strong, racking up eight sacks in the final nine games of the 2023 season. He played in 62 percent of the defensive snaps, with four starts in 17 games.

Has Kobie gotten enough attention to sway enough of the AP voters? That remains to be seen. He got our attention, however, and he gets the prize as this year’s best rookie on defense.

Finishing second on the internal ballots was Texans defensive end Will Anderson. Also getting consideration were Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon and Steelers cornerback Joey Porter, Jr.

Kenny Moore

Thinking the wise FA signing this coming year for the Rams would be a CB. Somebody not too old to still produce and be an invaluable mentor. I think that guy is Kenny Moore. Of course, I’m a little bias because he is from where I live and went to my alma mater, Valdosta State.

Is he a fit in our D? Do you think he could be the guy?

How much will he demand on a contract as a UFA? He’s making $7.5M now.

Playoff QB rankings...

Just read an article on "Fansided" where they ranked all the QBs going into the post-season. They have Stafford at #12 only ahead of Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph. Did I mention that Fansided rarely ever talks about the Rams in a good light. With that said how would folks here rate the QBs 1-14? Ill start with mine:
14 - Mason Rudolph
13 - Baker Mayfield
12 - Joe Flacco
11 - Tua Tagovailoa (one of the worst second half QBs in the entire league)
10 - Jalen Hurts
9 - Jordan Love
8 - Jared Goff
7- CJ Stroud
6 - Brock Purdy
5 - Matt Stafford
4 - Dak Prescott
3 - Patrick Mahommes
2 - Josh Allen
1 - Lamar Jackson

The regular season just ended on Sunday but Raheem Morris is already drawing head coaching interest. According to Adam Schefter, the Washington Commodes have requested to interview Morris for their head coaching vacancy.
They fired Ron Rivera as their head coach on Monday, ending his four-year tenure in Washington.
Morris has been the Rams’ defensive coordinator for the last three years, helping lead them to a Super Bowl win following the 2021 season. He was a finalist for the Colts’ head coaching job last year and received a second interview with Indianapolis, but the Colts went with Shane Steichen instead. The Broncos also interviewed Morris a year ago before hiring Asshole Face.
Morris has head coaching experience, holding that title for three years in Tampa Bay from 2009-2011. He was also the Falcons’ interim head coach in 2020 before the Rams hired him in 2021.

Morris also spent three years in Washington as the secondary coach from 2012-2014 where he was on the same staff as Sean McVay, Mike McDaniel and Kyle Shanahan.

Michael Barrett Jr.

This is a story from the parents of children with Down Syndrome here in the city I live in and the son of one of my coworkers who just happens to be playing for a National Championship tonight. My daughter used to help these children when she was dancing at the same dance studio and she also went to school with both Michael and Maggie.

This is long but I think it is worth your time to read. We have 2 kids with Down Syndrome, Maggie Bishop and Nathaniel Bishop. This is a Maggie story.

We can’t remember if this was 2017 or 2018. I’m pretty sure it was Feb 2018. Either way it shows the character of a young man that was literally BMOC. He was the 2017 Atlanta-Journal Constitution Georgia HS Offensive Player of the Year! In this state, thats like winning the Heisman. Yet here he is escorting Maggie to The Night To Shine here in Valdosta, February 2018. This is no small thing. From the Tim Tebow Foundation website: “To volunteer at Night to Shine, you will register and receive a background check through your local host church location. Once registered, your local host location will provide you with the necessary information and training you will need to serve at Night to Shine.” He was THE BEST offensive player in the state of Georgia!! Yet he didnt think it was beneath his dignity to subject himself to all those requirements to make a little Down Syndrome girl’s night. And he did it with great dignity, grace, kindness, gentleness and humility.

For those of you that know Michael Barrett, this doesn’t surprise you at all. For everyone else, Michael is a starting linebacker for The University of Michigan and will be playing for the NCAA College Football National Championship tomorrow night. He is still the same humble, kind young man that took Magz to Night to Shine. Just dont cross him on the football field!!! In this day and age where junior college football players drive up in their new Lamborghinis to sign there college letter of intent, Michael is a refreshingly noble example of what Godly character and leadership can look like.

Thank you, Anitren and Mike Barrett for raising such a wonderful young man and empowering him to be such a wonerful human being.

GO BLUE!! #GoBlue
