Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis will be joined by Panthers Tight End Greg Olsen as his team enjoys a bye week. Greg is currently nursing a leg injury he sustained earlier in the year. Much like McVay dropping by on the Fox pregame a couple weeks ago, Olsen seems to be doing something similar by joining along in the booth.

It should be fun to hear a current NFL player express his views on the two teams.

This is also a seemingly rare occurrence, as Voth points out in a subtweet, this has only happened on Fox with a current player twice before. Matt Hasselbeck in 2014 and Marcus Allen back in 1994.

Just a little something extra to add to what is sure to be a game with huge NFC playoff implications.

Random thought on the Seattle loss in week 5

I know it burns us every week when we look at the standings and think “what if” but honestly that loss might have been the best thing that happened to us.

McVay stresses how the turnover differential is the biggest indicator of success behind wins and losses and that’s true. That’s a game where a hand full of individuals could reflect after, point to themselves, and say “we could’ve won that if I didn’t...” and that lesson has carried over to every game afterwards.

I feel we would’ve lost the Jacksonville game had we won the Seattle game because the urgency wouldn’t have been there and we were going to learn the hard way one way or another.

The penalties issue seemed to have gotten cleaned up since the 49ers game where we almost lost due to bonehead moves. Redskins loss came down to turnovers and penalties.

All of these issues we heard McVay stress about before the season even started but it seems this team needed to experience and learn the hard way for it to learn.

No doubt in my mind we see a different team vs Seattle when we play them later. This is a young team that is going to have some moments that disappoint us but the trend is upward for years to come. Big picture.

Contract Extensions for the core group

Follow me while I dream.

I think the Rams have something special here with McVay. Not to get too far ahead of things, but coaching is extremely important in football, and here we are with what appears in a small sample size to be one of the best in a long time.

Surely the players see this. Surely they also see how much talent is on this roster. I wonder if they (and their agents) will go a step further.

This is a salary cap league - the best way for uber talented players to maximize their career earnings is thru free agency - get every dollar you can while the getting is good - we all understand that.

But maybe there is a real financial interest in taking less money under the cap to be on this team. If this coach really is as special as we think, if the talent level on this team really is as elite as we think it is, then maybe these guys get together and all agree to keep the core together to make a run at being a dynasty.

Sure, there is a big difference between what they could get per year in free agency then there is giving a hometown discount - but what is the monetary value associated with being part of a legendary run in one of the biggest markets in the world? Whether it is endorsement deals, a broadcasting career down the road, or thinking about how much easier it is to get a gold jacket with multiple rings on your finger - there may be incentives for this core group to want to stick together - and to sign deals that would allow that to happen longer term.

Its a pipe dream, I know that. These guys are going to get as much as they can in salary - and no one should blame them. But there is something to be said with wanting to play for a winner - and this Rams team may all of a sudden be the destination for guys who want to win.

A Special area of interest this Sunday!!

In looking at the stats I have seen that the Texans Offence is " worst in the League" in Sacks allowed (28) and the Rams "D" is 6th in the League in Sacks (25) so I think I will be watching this to see How high up-the-Charts we can jump at the Texans expense!!:cheers:

In case you where wondering, the Rams are Tied for 2nd Best in the League only giving up 10 sacks! ( Tied w/ The Steelers - Vikings and CowPies) Yes! we have a pretty good O-Line!!:yess:

I'll be watching these area's with special interest Sunday, What area's will you be watching!? Besides the score of course!! ;):D

Edit:I forgot to mention, The Texans are 15th in the League in Sacks with 15, But Clowney probably won't play, he's "Questionable"!!

ESPN, Rams vs Texans, Game Summary, WTF!!?!

According to the ESPN Game summary for the Rams vs Texans game, The injury report looks like this:

Houston;
* S- Marcus Gilchrist - Questionable.
* DE- Jadeveon Clowney - Questionable.
* CB- Johnathan Joseph - Questionable.
* TE- Ryan Griffin - Doubtful.

Rams;
* LB- Robert Quinn - Questionable! .... WTF?
* TE Derek Carrier - Questionable! .... WTF?
* RB- Malcolm Brown - Doubtful! .... WTF?
* RB- Dunbar - Out! .... WTF?

Has anyone else heard this^^ about Quinn / Carrier etc.!!?

Whitworth vs Clowney

I will be watching this match up a lot on Sunday. Clowney has developed into what the hype said he would be...a potential game wrecker. However, he meets a physically gifted technician in Andrew Whitworth who is so sound and dominant. I am no coach, but I imagine if you want a young guy to learn how to play LT, you get game tape isolating on Andrew Whitworth.

Really think if Clowney wants to have a great game, he better line up somewhere else....

Well, I re-watched the Giant game...

What fun it was, too. Lol.

A few thoughts...

MCVay keeps his foot on the gas pedal, doesn’t he? A TE sweep to Everett late in the 3rd qtr while leading 41-10? I love it!

We haven’t seen Goff’s best yet. Yeah, he had a helluva game, but there were some misses, too. Scary to think how good he might become. I think that this kid can become elite under the guidance of McVay.

I watched various OL players quite a bit. They are winning most of their matchups, sometimes spectacularly. And it ain’t just Whit and Saffold, either. It’s ALL of them. They deserve more credit for their part in these wins (blowouts). They are constantly showing up while throwing effective downfield blocks on big plays.

Sully, in particular, was effective. All over the place. But he wasn’t the only one. Kromer, take another bow, man. Your boys are kicking butt and taking names.

Goff’s demeanor was more relaxed than the vet Manning. It was amazing to see.

Gurley has become a lethal weapon with both the run and the pass. His improvement under this staff is mind boggling. Incidentally, keeping coach Peete was a stroke of genius.

Doesn’t seem quite fair to give McVay/Goff such an array of weapons for the O. Gurley, Woods, Watkins, Kupp, Higbee, now Everett and Pharoh with Reynolds waiting in the wings. Geez.

Opponents had some success early on against Wade’s D, but by mid 1st qtr he seems to have figured out their strategy and makes adjustments to shut them down. Not just this week, but every week. Rams scoring D has been exceptional since the 2nd half of the Dallas game.

Seems silly to nitpick in a 51-17 rout, but I will say that I expected a bit more QB pressure on Eli. Never mind the stats, it just seemed like the Rams were late too often in getting to Eli.

Giants were in a bind by mid 1st qtr. they wanted to run, run, run because of their WR injuries plus they wanted to keep the ball away from Goff. But after falling far behind, they were forced to pass a helluva lot more than they originally intended. Didn’t work out well for them, obviously.

I’m just gonna say it again. Quinn is reduced to a shadow of his former self. Doubt if he’s a Ram next year.

Pharoh is a find as a returner. He makes good decisions as to letting kicks go, fair catch, or returning. He has moves seldom seen, too. That spin move on the sideline? Wow!

The Ones on D holding the Giants to 10 points? Pretty impressive.

McVay started subbing for starters late in the 3rd qtr with a 48-10 lead. Smart move. He never called a single pass play after 4:00 minutes remained in the THIRD qtr. Think about that. The Giants knew that we were gonna run the ball with second stringers and still couldn’t stop a long FG drive.

That no huddle O has been devastating for 2 games in a row. McVay can give tips to Goff as they both look over the D and Goff is executing magnificently. Almost doesn’t seem fair.

It seemed as if the Rams had broken the spirit of the Giant players by early in the 3rd qtr. Ronde Barber said he thought it was as early as that Woods 33 yard conversion on 3rd down for a TD. I dunno. But I do know that I’ve waited a long time since I’ve last seen Ram teams be able to do that, much less back to back.

Too bad about the Malcolm Brown injury. He had a helluva 4th qtr while relieving Gurley.

Bring on the Texans. I can’t get enough of this. Lol.

Don't hit me with that jinx bullshit! A thread on a fan website isn't hexxing our incredible athletes spending their entire lives getting to where they are. If we go to the NFC Championship game and win who would you want to face? More than likely it's going to be the Steelers or Pats since the AFC is weak this year.

We all know the story of the Cheatriots and how most of us feel there was some shannanigans going on but I have heard others state how broken hearted that Super Bowl loss to the Steelers was and if you could get revenge would you want that over the Pats revenge? or to face another team?

Curious on what I'll read especially from the older posters to understand their feelings of what is more important.

I have 3 tix and parking for this weekends game

Dropping By

been away for a few months, I still lurk here and there to check up.

Been watching these games and every week I wonder “is this the week the wheels fall off?” But they just keep on impressing.

I’m scared to say this team is legit. But it seems that it may be so. *knocks on wood*

I’m so damn impressed with McVay and this offense. This line is awesome. This whole team is awesome. Hope y’all are having as much fun as I am.

Happy fandom y’all!

Rush Defense

I heard Kurt Warner mention that he wasn't necessarily sold on our playoff prowess because our run defense looks suspect.

I kind of agree with him.. the giants were gashing us until they fell too far behind to run.

It is a bit concerning.. I think we rank 23rd in rush defense.

Jerry Jones hires lawyer to oust Roger Goodell. Threatens to sue NFL.

This might get interesting. And not in a good way.

https://sports.yahoo.com/jerry-jone...ns-sue-roger-goodell-extension-204900038.html

Jerry Jones isn’t happy with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell anymore, and the feud might get ugly for the NFL.

According to the New York Times, theDallas Cowboysowner has hired lawyer David Boies (who finds himselfinvolved in the Harvey Weinstein scandal) and has threatened to sue the league and some team owners over the negotiations over Goodell’s contract extension. The Times reported there was a conference call with Jones and the NFL’s compensation committee — owners from the Chiefs, Falcons, Giants, Patriots, Steelers and Texans — and Jones told them legal papers were drawn up and would be served this Friday unless the committee drops its plan to give Goodell an extension. Goodell’s contract expires after the 2018 season.

While nothing has happened yet, it’s a growing issue for the league.

While there are plenty of criticisms of Goodell, including questions about television ratings and much of the attention for this season on player anthem protests, it’s easy to wonder if Jones is getting back at Goodell for suspending his star running backEzekiel Elliott. The NFL suspended Elliott six games in August over an alleged domestic violence incident, after Jones was adamant there was no evidence against him. Elliott has continued to play while the issue works its way through the courts, but Jones still seems to have turned on Goodell over the suspension. The New York Times report said the threats over Goodell’s extension “stems from Jones’s anger over the commissioner’s suspending” of Elliott.

Goodell has faced heat from the outside, but it has been rare to hear any owners rip him publicly. The league has grown to unprecedented financial success under Goodell. But with so many negative off-field stories dominating the action on the field recently, the tide seems to be turning.

Goodell and the NFL did what it thought was right in suspending Elliott. In doing so, it seems the commissioner made a very powerful enemy.

Some Love for the Offensive Line on NFL Network

Somehow the Rams are second behind the Eagles, but Rams O-line getting some much deserved love on NFL.com

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...of-the-week-eagles-bulldoze-broncos-vaunted-d

1) Philadelphia Eagles

This Broncos-Eagles matchup was supposed to be pretty even. Not so much, as Philadelphia rampaged to a 51-23 win. Even without star left tackle Jason Peters -- who was lost for the year in Week 7 -- the Eagles' offensive line overwhelmed Denver's vaunted defense in both the ground game and the aerial attack. Clearly no easy task against this Denver defense. Von Miller's a bona fide game wrecker, and Shane Ray is back in action after spending the first seven weeks of the season on IR with a wrist issue. And then there's the "No Fly Zone" secondary, which typically lives up to its nickname. But Philly posted 419 yards of offense in an extremely balanced manner: 222 passing, 197 rushing. That kind of all-around effort against such a talented defense is what gets an offensive line the top slot in this column.

Philadelphia's big bodies up front blew Denver off the ball, allowing Eagles rushers to gain a healthy 5.3 yards per carry. Not surprisingly, Philly was the top run-blocking unit of Week 9, according to Pro Football Focus. Jason Kelce played a fine game in all facets, as one of PFF's highest-graded centers of the week. Newly acquired running back Jay Ajayi undoubtedly enjoyed this effort from his offensive line. In 138 carries for the Dolphins this season, the running back didn't hit paydirt once. Then, in his fifth carry as an Eagle, Ajayi cruised through a massive hole on the left side of the line and jaunted 46 yards to the end zone. Welcome to Philadelphia!

In the passing game, the Eagles' starting five became the first offensive line this season to not give up a single sack or QB hit against the Broncos' pass rush. Carson Wentz, whose O-line yielded just three QB hurries, certainly didn't hurt his MVP candidacy, throwing four more touchdown passes to bring his league-leading total to 23. Halapoulivaati Vaitai played solid at LT in place of Peters, giving up a pair of hurries and nothing else.

The rest of the top five O-lines from Week 9

2) Los Angeles Rams: Like Philadelphia, Los Angeles put 51 points on the board, running roughshod over the Giants in their own building with a 34-point victory -- the Rams' largest road win since 1970. Eclipsing the 40-point mark for the third time this season, L.A. unsurprisingly leads the NFL in scoring. The Rams piled up a whopping 473 total yards of offense.

Los Angeles' O-line didn't allow a single sack or QB hit, ranking as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 pass-blocking unit in Week 9. This pristine protection allowed Jared Goff to toss up 311 passing yards. Most impressively, the sophomore signal caller completed 14 passes in the game ... with four going for touchdowns! (Goff was the first Rams QB with four passing TDs in a game since 2006.) The O-line also paved the way for a solid committee effort on the ground, with Todd Gurley, Malcolm Brown and Tavon Austin combining for 150 yards.

On an individual level, left guard Rodger Saffold enjoyed one of his best games, while tackles Andrew Whitworth and Rob Havenstein stonewalled the Giants' pass rush.

3) Arizona Cardinals: It's a shame it took Carson Palmer breaking his arm for the Cardinals to commit to the run, but here we are. In a 20-10 win at San Francisco, Arizona logged 73 plays -- with 43 runs. Adrian Peterson took the bulk of the load on the ground, carrying the ball a career-high 37 times -- pretty remarkable for the bell-cow back who's been in the league since 2007 -- for 159 yards. This was Peterson's 51st career 100-yard game -- and second in just three games with the Cardinals. The left side of the line deserves particular praise -- LG Alex Boone and LT D.J. Humphries put on a clinic in double-team blocking, as they repeatedly dumped DeForest Buckner into the linebackers' laps on running plays.

In relief of Palmer, Drew Stanton (201 yards passing, one touchdown, one interception) did a good job of getting the ball out and using his legs to get out of trouble. He was not sacked or hit at all. It was a good all-around game plan, with solid execution by the men up front.

4) New York Jets: The Jets delivered a Week 9 surprise right off the bat, snapping a three-game losing streak by knocking off the previously hot Bills on Thursday night, 34-21. That was a season-high in points scored by New York -- and the most allowed this year by the Buffalo D.

Gang Green primarily pummeled the Bills with the ground attack. The Jets rushed for more yards on Thursday (194) than the Bills had given up in the previous three weeks combined (188). And 121 of those rushing yards from New York came in the second half. Matt Forte enjoyed his best game of the season, with 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the O-line didn't give up a sack and allowed just one hit. Quite remarkable, given Buffalo's ferocious front. As a result, Josh McCown provided another efficient -- if not spectacular -- game throwing the football, completing 14 of his 20 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. He continues to engineer this offense down the field and is currently completing 70.4 percent of his passes, which would break Chad Pennington's franchise record (68.9 in 2002).

5) Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jags completely dominated Cincinnati in Sunday's 23-7 win, eclipsing 400 yards of offense while converting 66 percent of their third-down attempts and winning the time-of-possession battle, 40:14 to 19:46. Eclipsing 40 minutes in TOP is staggering -- this was the most lopsided possession advantage in an NFL game this season.

Despite the absence of star rookie RB Leonard Fournette, who was held out of Sunday's game after violating team rules, Jacksonville still churned out 149 rushing yards. This is a testament to the offensive line, though RBs Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon deserve credit for picking up the slack with Fournette inactive. The O-line kept Blake Bortles clean (zero sacks, one QB hit) and the much-maligned QB responded with a solid effort from the pocket (259 yards passing, one touchdown, zero picks). Rookie LT Cam Robinson had a tough day at the office, giving up the lone QB hit and four hurries, but he might have been battling through an ankle injury that he first suffered a few weeks back and appeared to retweak. The other bookend, right tackle Jermey Parnell, enjoyed his best game of the year. Tyler Shatley continues to play well at center, while Brandon Linder -- who was the team's starting pivot before injury -- moved to right guard and did a great job in the run game (though he did give up three hurries)
