It’s pretty simple, really...

Although it was looking kinda scary in that first half, huh?

Rams scored 33 points.

Were plus 4 on turnovers.

443 net yards gained.

Only allowed 7 points.

Any team that can accomplish the above is gonna win a lot of the time.

Pretty danged impressive, huh? This Ram team and coaching staff are spoiling the hell outta me.

I think I’m gonna savor this one for another 24 hours. Lol.

Rams 4th in scoring defense

Remember when the Rams' defense was terrible to open the season, when they were having trouble adjusting to a different scheme, and AD was holding out? After the week 10 Sunday games

Jacksonville 134 points allowed
Pittsburgh 148 points allowed
Carolina 159 points allowed
Our Rams 162 points allowed

all with 9 games played

I have to say - I'm damn impressed. It's highly possible that the Rams could end the year #1 in points scored and in fewest points allowed!

  • Poll Poll
So, which PLAYER has most exceeded your ‘17 preseason expectations?

Which player has most exceeded your ‘17 preseason expectations?

  • Jared Goff. Night and day improvement over ‘16, huh?

  • Todd Gurley. Another dramatic improvement, even some MVP whispers.

  • Robert Woods. I expected a solid and steady #2 for Goff, but not a freaking beast!

Results are only viewable after voting.

Lots of guys have exceeded my preseason expectations. Maybe a dozen or more.

But I just listed the biggest (I think).

Very, very tough call. But I have to say that it’s Robert Woods for me. I expected him to be a valuable part of this O and a safety net for Goff.

But, dang! Woods has been a beast!

2nd best signing.

Signing Robert Woods!!!!

Guy has been amazing. If not for Whitworth he'd be the best by far.

He constantly is a threat whether in the short, intermediate or long field.

I was skeptical of the contract when he got it, but now love it. Great move!!

#1 signing was Whitworth of course. You see his double block on the Watkins td? Holy shit!!

But anyway, I am loving woods and glad we have him for many more years.

Rams, Goff try to keep ball rolling against Texans

"That's the toughness to stand in there, that's the ability to be able to make all the throws, change your arm angle, throw from different platforms, not watch the rush. I think he demonstrated those things in the seven games that he did play.

"Now what I didn't know is how he would process things, how he had processed the way that his first season had gone. I got a chance to spend a little bit of time with him when I was actually interviewing for the job and you come away confident just with his demeanor, his disposition, the fact that he doesn't make any excuses for what happened that rookie year, takes full accountability. I think those are good traits that you're looking for from your leader.

"Most importantly, I think just being with him now through eight games, the mental toughness that he displays, both through the good and the bad, is a really valuable trait that I think he possesses and that serves you well, especially coming from that quarterback position."

During a miserable rookie season that included Goff throwing more interceptions (seven) than touchdowns (five) while completing just 54.6 percent of his attempts and posting a 63.6 passer rating in seven games, the Rams fired longtime coach Jeff Fisher and subsequently replaced him with McVay.

That mix has proved to be combustible for opposing defenses. The Rams' 263 points are the second-most for a coach in his first eight games in the Super Bowl era.

Their run-pass balance has enabled Goff to not only lead the NFL in yards per pass attempt (8.3) and per completion (13.8) but features Gurley to the point that he is fourth in rushing attempts (161).

Goff, who is tied for 10th with a 1.6 interception percentage, deserves the raves. But credit McVay for entrusting him with the keys to an offense versatile enough to showcase his skills.

"Sean's doing a good job with him," Texans coach Bill O'Brien said of Goff. "He can make all the throws, which you knew that coming out of college. That's why he was drafted No. 1 (overall). But he's in a good rhythm. He's got a good mix of three-step and intermediate routes, down the field routes, short routes.

"The running game, they're averaging 132 yards per game rushing the ball with Gurley. They've got a great offense so it's a big challenge for us."

In the week since losing Watson, the Texans added Matt McGloin and T.J. Yates, who spent three-plus seasons in Houston, and flirted with the idea of signing pariah Colin Kaepernick.

The Texans jettisoned McGloin and bypassed Kaepernick this week in favor of signing veteran Josh Johnson off the street, yet their immediate future rests with Savage and his ability to improve.

"I'm really confident in myself," Savage said. "I really do believe that I'm a starting quarterback in this league and I do believe that I can throw the ball really well and accurate, and that's never been an issue for me. I know that I just got to go out there and do it."

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember one of our core principles; we always aim to show respect for our team.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad.

Well, it's Week 9 so it's time to Talk Draft

Wut?

Don't look at me in that tone of chat! We always do this, this time of year...:death:

I have heard in the last few minutes that maybe we should trade our first round pick down for more picks to possible score on Whitworth's replacement. However, how good will that be since we almost assuredly will be picking between #22-#32 in 2018?
Is it a good draft for Olinemen?
We also need a starting CB and maybe a Big Ugly to plug the middle of our Dline?

This is SKA's version of Madden, make the wicked good 2018 Ram's team for a repeat Super Bowl team!

Luck may never play again.

The saga that is Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts continues to hit new lows with each passing day.

Luck has been shut down for the season and won’t play until the 2018 season…At least that’s what they’re hoping for, as his injured shoulder that he had offseason surgery on back in January hasn’t healed the way the organization had hoped.

According to a report from ESPN 1070 The Fan’s Tony Donohue, not only is Andrew Luck slated to miss the rest of this season, but he may never play in the league again.

The #Colts are at a crossroad. Im told it is very possible Andrew never plays again. The team is looking at a top 7 pick in the draft..

— Tony Donohue (@TonyD1070) November 7, 2017

To be clear: People within the Colts org have legitimate concerns as to whether Andrew Luck will ever play again. Not everyone is on the same page with GM Chris Ballard when he said last week that Luck’s injury wasn’t career-threatening.

— Brad Wells (@BradWellsNFL) November 7, 2017

When I say “never plays again” was told theres a chance he never plays in the NFL. I hope thats not the case as I am a huge #12 supporter

— Tony Donohue (@TonyD1070) November 7, 2017

As a fan of football, I hope this isn’t the case. Everybody has watched as Luck played injured for the last two seasons behind a terrible offensive line in Indy, and it seems it may have caught up with him in a huge way.

Andrew Donnal was waived.

Mundt was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon, and has spent the majority of his first professional season on Los Angeles' practice squad.

The Rams began Saturday with 52 men on their active roster. Los Angeles waived offensive lineman Andrew Donnal as its one corresponding move to put the club at 53 players for Sunday's game against Houston.

RGIII vs. Mike Shanahan

Mike Shanahan says RGIII ‘really believed he was Aaron Rodgers’
By Kelyn Soong

It’s becoming increasingly clear that the careers of former Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and quarterback Robert Griffin III will be forever linked, especially since neither can seem to stop talking about the other.

Shanahan appeared on Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed” on Friday afternoon, and co-host Skip Bayless asked the ex-coach about his thoughts on Griffin’s “evolution off the field.” It started off a four-minute segment in which Shanahan did not hold back, blaming himself for not getting through to his quarterback but also criticizing Griffin for trying to be someone he wasn’t.

“I’ll be honest with you, I was really disappointed myself, because I knew where Robert was going,” Shanahan said. “I knew where his dad was going. I knew where [Redskins owner] Dan Snyder was going. It was up to me to convince this guy that, ‘Hey, if you don’t run, your drop-back game . . . it’s not there now, but you can get there.’ I blame myself for not getting to the kid. He really believes he was Aaron Rodgers. In his mind, he believed he was Aaron Rodgers. I said, ‘You know what? You’re not Aaron Rodgers, and Aaron Rodgers is not you.’ ”

Shanahan’s comments came just a few months after Griffin tweeted that his first two seasons in Washington were an “impossible situation with a coach who never wanted me.” In October, Griffin elaborated to 106.7 The Fan that he was “drafted to a team with a coach who didn’t want me, with an organization that wasn’t sold on me.”

Griffin, who is out of the league, was the 2012 offensive rookie of the year but could not recapture that season’s magic after injuring his knee in Washington’s playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks following the season.

In that season, coaches had Griffin run a play-action and read-option offense that took advantage of Griffin’s speed. But after getting injured, Griffin was reluctant to run as much, Shanahan said. There have been reports that Griffin demanded after his rookie season that read-option plays be stripped from the offense during a meeting — something Griffin has disputed. Former Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman, in an interview with ESPN 980, backed up Shanahan’s version of the events and said the coach “has the tape of that meeting.”

“In time you can learn the drop-back game and you will get better, but you got to do some of the things that we’ve been doing your rookie year to keep the defenses off you,” Shanahan said he told Griffin. “Because with that play-action game, Robert had all the time in the world to throw. He had time. He was getting better. . . . But the next year, because of the injury, he felt like, ‘Hey, I can’t run anymore.’ ”

“You can come back from that knee [injury], but what you have to do is get better at the drop-back game, doing some of the things we’ve been doing,” Shanahan continued. “With that, I said, ‘You got a chance. If not, you’ll be out of the game in four to five years.’ ”

Griffin was released by the Redskins in March 2016 after losing the starting job to Kirk Cousins. He signed with the Cleveland Browns from there but was released in March 2017 and has been training in Florida in hopes of return to the NFL.

To Shanahan, Griffin struggled to become a pure pocket passer because he lacked the natural anticipation that other quarterbacks have.

“In my experience, you watch people practice every day, you know if they can throw, if they’re a natural at it,” he said. “You know when it takes a little bit longer, or if you can’t slide in the pocket, if you don’t have the anticipation. He did not have that so you knew he was going to struggle. I had to convince him this is going to take some time, but I was never able to do that.”

Shanahan also told a story of how he sat down with Griffin to watch film of Andrew Luck — picked first overall in the 2012 draft by the Indianapolis Colts, one spot ahead of Griffin — after co-host Shannon Sharpe asked if the praise Luck received affected Griffin.

“I told Robert, ‘Let’s sit down and watch [Luck’s] film,’ ” Shanahan said. “I’ve never seen a guy get hit more than Andrew Luck did. ‘Let’s look at you: One of the reasons you haven’t been hit is the defense is afraid to rush you. You’ve got to play the option reads. You got all day to throw play action on first and second down. What we’ve got to get you better on [is] third down,’ and we did get better on it, but then after that, of course things changed.”

Bayless ended the segment by asking if Griffin’s close relationship with Snyder played a role in the coach-quarterback falling out. Shanahan used the opportunity to explain the disconnect between what he saw as a coach and what Griffin and his supporters believed.

“To be honest with you, with a guy like Dan, he believed Robert had all those things, all the tools,” he said. “You can see why an owner or dad or mother says, ‘Hey, don’t get my son hit.’ I understand that, but one thing you have to learn is if you do run a read-option, the quarterback cannot get hit. He has to slide, give the ball off, pitch it . . . .

If you do run, never take a hit. That’s what Russell Wilson has done throughout his career. He’s the best at it. Deshaun Watson, he's doing unbelievable, doing the same thing: sliding, throwing the ball away, being able to throw on the run.”
