Keenum in McVay’s Offense!!!

Hey Everybody!!!! Ever consider how great Case Keenum would be in McVay’s offense??? I mean... Case outplayed Jared last year... so maybe Case would have outplayed Jared this year, too!!! What a FUN scenario to think about!!! Guaranteed to spur lively debate about unprovable hypotheticals!!!!
Knowing the Buddha-like serenity of all posters, I’m sure debating this topic would NEVER cause any drama!!!!

Malcolm Young, AC/DC Guitarist and Co-Founder, Dead at 64

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/n...c-guitarist-and-co-founder-dead-at-64-w512164

Malcolm Young, guitarist and co-founder of AC/DC, died Saturday at the age of 64. Young had been suffering with dementia for the past three years, an illness that forced his retirement from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band he founded with his brother Angus Young in 1973.

"Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young," AC/DC wrote in a statement.

"Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC. With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band. As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man. He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted. He took great pride in all that he endeavored. His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed."

Angus Young added, "As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special. He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever. Malcolm, job well done."

The Young brothers lost their older brother George Young, the Easybeats guitarist and AC/DC's longtime producer, in October at the age of 70.

In an additional statement to Australia's SBS, the band said that Malcolm Young died peacefully Saturday with his family by his side.

"Renowned for his musical prowess, Malcolm was a songwriter, guitarist, performer, producer and visionary who inspired many," the statement said. "From the outset, he knew what he wanted to achieve and, along with his younger brother, took to the world stage giving their all at every show. Nothing less would do for their fans."

This story is developing.

New Rock Band Discovery

Well I had no creative lure you all in... Captively to this thread. Absolutely randomly stumbled on Quicksand via my Napster app... Ya know the Recommended pop ups. Wow. I haven't checked out who they are in detail but the first track hooked me in... Rest of the album is just as impressive. Definitely not going to satisfy everyone. However I feel a strong correlation to early Deftones with Poison the Well some CKY.. Snapcase and a toss of Royal Blood. I'm a self proclaimed audiophile and haven't had many recent (new) bands totally impress to hit replay on the album 3x already. Just wanted to share for those out there. I really think @Memento will dig them. Login to view embedded media View: https://youtu.be/xgIJatX2uug

Rams @ Vikes Pregame Thread

Mods close it shut it down put me in my place if I am jumping the gun.

This game is going to be a slugfest.

The defense disguises things really well and it can leave the QB in a very vulnerable position. They have multiple ways of disguising and delaying pressures.

Let our special teams play a big role in dictating field position.

Protect the ball and take the ball away.

WE NOT ME!

The Rams and Vikings have played in some pretty important games over the years.

1969 Western Conference Championship
goalline+12_26_69.jpg

After having a 17-7 lead at halftime, Joe Kapp and the Vikings stormed back to take a 21-20 lead in the 4th quarter. Minnesota extended their lead with a safety, but Roman Gabriel moved the Rams into Viking territory late in the game. Unfortunately, Alan Page intercepted Gabriel with 31 seconds left.
23-20 Vikings.

1974 NFC Championship

Trailing 7-3 in the second half, the Rams drove 98 yards to Minnesota's 1 yard line. Los Angeles was set to take the lead; however, James Harris was intercepted on 3rd down. The Vikings marched down the field and added to their lead with another touchdown. The Rams responded with a score of their own, but Minnesota ran out the clock on LA's Super Bowl dreams. 14-10 Vikings.

1976 NFC Championship
flashback-friday-110615-pic.jpg

The Bobby Bryant returned a blocked field goal 90 yards for a Minnesota touchdown early in the game. The Vikings rode that momentum to a 17-0 lead, but the Rams responded with back-to-back touchdowns to cut the lead to 4. Pat Haden drove the Rams down to the Viking 39 yard line, but was intercepted on 4th down by Bryant. Fran Tarkenton quickly put the Rams away and sent the Vikings to their 4th Super Bowl appearance. 24-13 Vikings.

1977 NFC Divisional (The Mud Bowl)
mud2+12_26_77.jpg

After years of bad luck, the Rams seemed to turn the page by finally playing at home against the Tarkenton-less Vikings. After three straight days of rain, the field and players were caked in mud. The Vikings used this to their advantage by rushing over the Ram defense. Minnesota took a 14-0 lead and never looked back. 14-7 Vikings.

1978 NFC Divisional

After going into halftime tied at 10, the Rams clamped down on the Vikings only allowing 59 yards of offense in the second half. LA cruised past Minnesota to finally put their Vikings playoff curse behind them. 34-10 Rams.

The St. Louis Rams (13-3) hosted the Minnesota Vikings (11-6) in the 1999 NFC Divisional playoff game on January 16, 2000. This was the first NFL playoff game ever played in St. Louis. In the days leading up to match-up, many analysts speculated that the inexperience and lack of regular season competition for the Rams would give Minnesota the edge. But on the first offensive play from scrimmage, St. Louis silenced their critics and set the tone for the rest of the game. 49-37 Rams.

The Minnesota Vikings (11-2) clashed with the St. Louis Rams (8-5) on December 10th, 2000 in a rematch of last year's NFC Divisional Playoff Game. After losing five out of the last seven games, the Rams desperately needed a victory to stay alive in the playoff race. The Vikings entered the on a four-game winning streak and needed only one more win to clinch the NFC Central Title & home-field advantage in the playoffs. After last week's debacle in Carolina, the St. Louis game plan this week was simple: Marshall! Marshall! Marshall! Marshall! 40-29 Rams.

So, who initiated the tradeup for Goff?

We’ll probably never know for sure.

But here’s my take, strictly from deductions made from things that I THINK I know.

Kroenke is a hands off owner. So it would be out of character for him to have initiated this trade idea, other than possibly in an offhand remark to Demoff. Maybe.

I seriously doubt that it was Fisher’s idea. He lacked the imagination or knowledge on O matters, preferring to focus on the D. I don’t think that either is disputable.

I kinda doubt that it was Demoff, either. He doesn’t involve himself in deciding personnel matters, preferring to sign the players that Snead and his HC request, where possible.

So, by a process of elimination, I deduce that it was most likely Snead’s idea.

Snead loves to trade and he’s darned good at it.
Snead was in the best position to recognize the talent in both Wentz and Goff and could see how it might translate to wins for the Rams.
Snead was in best position to know that QB talent didn’t look great in ‘17 where the Rams would likely pick, so timing was of the essence. Had to be in ‘16.
Snead knew that there would not likely be a winning season if the Rams stayed with the status quo, so SOMETHING had to be done.
Snead best knew that such a blockbuster trade could be accomplished without crippling the Rams for years, something that many could not see.

It was an “All In” move that required the blessing of Kroenke, Demoff, and Fisher. But I suspect that it was Snead that got the ball rolling in the first place.

Hindsight tells us that it was a brilliant move, no matter whose idea it was. Hindsight also tells us that it was but one of two brilliant necessary moves in order to return the Rams to playoff status. Cough, cough...

Versatile Rams linebacker Mark Barron is thriving in Wade Phillips' 3-4 scheme

Wade Phillips’ impending arrival as the Rams’ defensive coordinator last January caused several players minor anxiety.

They were excited, of course, about Phillips’ track record of success, but uncertain how they might fit into his 3-4 scheme.

Mark Barron, at a seemingly undersized 6 feet 2 and 225 pounds for an inside linebacker, was not among the nervous.

“I wasn’t worried about it all,” Barron said. “Just tell me what you need me to do, what’s my responsibility, and I’m going to go and try to find a way to make plays within that scheme.”

Barron, 28, has done that for a Rams team that is 7-2 and atop the NFC West heading into Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

He has 63 tackles and three interceptions, both team bests.

“You feel him,” coach Sean McVay said. “He’s all over the field.”

Barron’s playmaking has helped the Rams lead the league with 19 forced turnovers, including 12 interceptions and seven fumbles.

In last week’s victory over the Houston Texans, Jared Goff’s long touchdown pass to Robert Woods was the third-quarter play that blew open the game and sent the Rams on their way to a 33-7 blowout.

But Barron’s interception late in the first half positioned the Rams for the breakout.

After the Rams failed to generate a first down with a fake punt, the Texans took over and moved inside the Rams’ 20-yard line with a chance to build on a 7-6 lead.

Barron intercepted a pass to quell the threat and returned it 15 yards to set up a drive that led to a field goal to put the Rams ahead going into the break.

And he did it wearing a cast on his left hand because of a thumb injury.

“If I’m going to step on the field and play with it, I can’t be out there making excuses,” Barron said. “You got to find a way.”

Barron has thrived for the Rams since moving from safety to a hybrid role a few seasons ago. It was one of several position switches he made since he began playing football in youth leagues.

Barron mainly played running back, wingback and receiver in high school in Mobile, Ala. But during his senior season, to help the defense, he also moved to linebacker and safety.

In college at Alabama, he played safety for two national championship teams and was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the seventh pick in the 2012 draft.

The Rams acquired Barron for two draft picks in a 2014 trade deadline move, and he finished that season at safety.

But in 2015, after outside linebacker Alec Ogletree suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 4, former Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams utilized Barron in a hybrid role.

“They just threw me in,” Barron said, adding, “It wasn’t a planned thing or a sit-down-and-talk thing. It was just a way to get me on the field — and I ended up being good at it.”

So good, the Rams signed Barron to a five-year, $45-million contract before last season.

He responded by finishing with the second-most tackles and two interceptions for a defense that was forced to carry the load for a team that featured the league’s worst offense.

Phillips surveyed the talent he was inheriting and saw Barron as a perfect fit for the “Mo” linebacker position, which does not require the stoutness of the other inside linebacker spot played by Ogletree.

“The better the guy can cover,” Phillips said, “the more you can utilize him.”

Teammates have not been surprised by the latest demonstration of Barron’s versatility.

He is “one of those old-school-type players” that can be lined up anywhere and produce, safety Lamarcus Joyner said.

“I don’t think too many people love the game like Mark Barron,” Joyner said. “Some guys play with passion. Some guys play because they have the ability to play.

“Mark Barron, he’s two in one.”

Said Ogletree: “There’s not a lot of people that can kind of transfer a position because they might struggle, whether it’s technique or not having the ability to do it. But a guy like him, he’s definitely able to adjust really quickly and then football instincts take over.”

McVay and team trainers have been cautious with Barron since the offseason, limiting his participation in workouts and during training camp — and holding him out of preseason games — so that he would be physically ready for the season.

The Rams are the first winning NFL team for which Barron has played, so he is enjoying the feeling.

“It feels different,” he said, “and better.”

The Rams are on pace to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2004, and have been mentioned in the national conversation about Super Bowl contenders.

But Barron said his mind-set would not vary if the Rams were 2-7 rather than 7-2.

“I just don’t approach anything thinking I’m going to lose,” he said, “So as far as I’m concerned, we’re going to the Super Bowl.”

Rams defensive lineman Ethan Westbrooks, who was arrested in September after a gun was found in the car he was driving near Bakersfield, was charged with one misdemeanor count of carrying a loaded firearm and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, the Kern County District Attorney’s office said.

Westbrooks, 26, was initially stopped for speeding on Interstate 5 in Kern County. He was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a stolen loaded firearm, grand theft of a firearm and possession of a high-capacity magazine. Westbrooks has played in every game this season, starting twice.

He has two sacks. “He’s been up front and honest with us the whole time,” McVay said, “and we trust Ethan on his word and we’re continuing to stick with him through that.”….

Offensive lineman Rodger Saffold, who injured an ankle against the Texans, and linebacker Robert Quinn, who was sidelined for the game because of illness, were full participants in practice.

A Tale of Three Gashes; The Los Angeles Rams Run Defense

435.jpg

As pundits wax on philosophically about the Rams one perceived weakness, its 24th ranked run defense, the accepted narrative is this: The Los Angeles Rams are weak against the run.

Well, in this Sean McVay/Wade Phillips era of accountability, one theme runs true: "We've got to get better, and it starts with me." No excuses. You are who your record says you are. Or in this case, Your run defense is as bad as your ranking says it is.

But, in the course of looking a little deeper for answers, is there a hopeful, silver lining in this cloud of defensive dread? No doubt, our proven legend Wade Phillips will make a difference, and in fact has made a positive difference as the season progresses.
USATSI_10272350-1068x804.jpg

The Rams opponents have run the ball 237 times in these first 9 games, for 1,062 yards,(4.53) or 118 yards rushing per game. As stated earlier, this ranks 24th in the league. Hardly a statistic that bodes well for the teams chances, should they make it to the post season.

It seems to be a theme in the first half of the season that the Rams get gashed for one or two early runs, then settle down and shut teams running attacks down in the second half. Those runs count too. Often times a running back will run for 2,1,1,3,1,5, then Boom! break off a 35 yard run. It is the way of the NFL, which is why run discipline and good tackling are so important.

Having said all of that, 3 runs during this season have taken the Rams to 24th in the league in rushing.
Game 2 vs. the Redskins, Chris Thompson 61 yards
Game 4 vs. the Cowboys, Alfred Morris 70 yards
Game 6 vs. the Jaguars, Leonard Fournette 75 yards

Take away those 3 runs, and the Rams look like this:
234 rushes 856 yards, (3.65) or 95.1 yards per game. Ranking 7th against the rush in the NFL!

Below I listed each game, total rushing yards allowed, with the longest run allowed in parenthesis, along with the name of the opposing player who achieved that rush. The three bleeding gashes listed in RED:

TEAM...YARDS..LONG RUN...PLAYER
  1. Indy.....75...........(24)...........Mack
  2. Wash..229..........(61)..........Thompson
  3. S.F.....113...........(20)..........Hyde
  4. Dal.....189...........(70)..........Morris
  5. Sea.....62............(9)............Wilson
  6. Jax.....169...........(75)..........Fournette
  7. Ariz......25.............(6)..........Peterson
  8. NYG...111..........(24)..........Darkwa
  9. Hou.....89...........(21)...........L. Miller
These outliers have been brutal! Certainly there have been several other 15, 20 yarders given up by the Rams defense. I think a number of players, in the course of switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 have had a tough time adjusting. Our interior linebackers, Mark Barron and Alec Ogletree looked lost in this defense the first few games. Many of us on ROD were in a panic that we may lack the proper personnel to run Wade Phillips defense.

Outside linebackers Robert Quinn and Conner Barwin didn't look very stout against the run either. In recent games, very encouraging signs have been seen from all but perhaps Quinn. Interestingly Quinn has been ill. I love the Mighty One. I just fear he may be suffering from an acute case of Aintgotitnomoreitis, an affliction that strikes every player eventually. Back surgeries, and constantly being held by Left Tackles certainly contributed to his demise.

199.gif

On the front line, the Rams were missing star defensive lineman Aaron Donald the first game, and he no doubt took a couple more games to be playing up to speed. Rookie Tanzeil Smart, though earning an early starters role at Nose Tackle, has proven to not be strong enough for the role at this point in his career. Tyrunn Walker has taken many of those snaps, as the Rams seems to be stiffening up against the run. Michael Brockers has been the steady rock all year.

So the Three Bleeding Gashes will continue to define this team until they prove otherwise. The trends appear to be encouraging for those of us who follow the men in horns. I can't wait to see how this story ends.

Just tried to buy extra tickets from the Rams and the rep said they are officially sold out of all tickets except for a limited amount being held back for 3 game packages. Looking at ticket resell prices now and cheapest with fees to get in is $230!

Pretty sure the optics of poor attendance was holding back NBC from flexing this game but now no excuses...Flex this bitch!

PFT’s Week 11 picks: Rams Lose

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/11/16/pfts-week-11-picks-8/

PFT’s Week 11 picks
Posted by Mike Florio on November 16, 2017

Rams at Vikings

MDS’s take: Jared Goff takes on Case Keenum in a matchup of two quarterbacks who look great this year after looking terrible as teammates with the Rams last year. This game feels like a coin flip to me, but I’ll take the home team.

MDS’s pick: Vikings 23, Rams 20.

Florio’s take: Game of the week. A rematch of some classic playoff contests, between a pair of teams that may be destined to meet again in the elimination round. Minnesota’s defense is the difference-maker, especially at home.

Florio’s pick: Vikings 17, Rams 13.
--------------
Titans at Steelers

MDS’s take: The Steelers have a tendency to play down to the level of their opponents in games against bad teams like the Colts (whom the Steelers barely beat) and the Bears (who beat the Steelers). But against a pretty good team like the Titans, the Steelers will come to play.

MDS’s pick: Steelers 30, Titans 20.

Florio’s take: It’s often a crapshoot when it comes to the Steelers, but they tend to be focused and prepared when playing in prime time, where they’re 31-16 under Mike Tomlin. The twist in this case comes from Titans assistant Dick LeBeau knowing the team’s offense and personnel incredibly well. Under the lights at Heinz Field, that probably won’t be enough to make the difference — as long as the Steelers truly show up.

Florio’s pick: Steelers 27, Titans 23.
---------------
Lions at Bears

MDS’s take: This won’t be an easy game for the Lions, who may struggle to put many points on the board on a cold day in Chicago. But the Lions’ defense should hold Mitchell Trubisky in check well enough to win a close game.

MDS’s pick: Lions 14, Bears 10.

Florio’s take: The Bears are dangerous, especially at home. But the Lions are finding their stride by racking up wins and not taking anyone for granted. They’ll check another box as they move toward a Thanksgiving showdown with the Vikings.

Florio’s pick: Lions 24, Bears 13.
--------------
Jaguars at Browns

MDS’s take: DeShone Kizer had his best game last week in Detroit, but this week against an excellent Jaguars pass defense, he’s going to have a tough time. The Jaguars should win handily.

MDS’s pick: Jaguars 21, Browns 6.

Florio’s take: A pair of franchises mired in years of difficulty are moving in very different directions. And the Jaguars will show Browns fans what the Browns could be if they ever find a way to make good decisions about young players over a period of several years.

Florio’s pick: Jaguars 20, Browns 9.
--------------
Ravens at Packers

MDS’s take: Brett Hundley showed some signs of improvement last week against the Bears, but the Packers are still going to have a tough time putting many points on the board on Sunday, and the Ravens should win a low-scoring game.

MDS’s pick: Ravens 17, Packers 13.

Florio’s take: The Ravens have had two weeks to get ready for a showdown in a place where the Packers suddenly are having a hard time winning games, primarily because they don’t have Aaron Rodgers. Baltimore is capable of a periodically impressive performance, and if one doesn’t happen on Sunday, their chances of getting to the playoffs could sink close to zero.

Florio’s pick: Ravens 24, Packers 20.
--------------
Cardinals at Texans

MDS’s take: In a battle of two teams with backup quarterbacks, I see the Cardinals’ defense forcing Tom Savage into a few turnovers to win an ugly game.

MDS’s pick: Cardinals 16, Texans 13.

Florio’s take: Drew Stanton or Blaine Gabbert will be facing Tom Savage, while Colin Kaepernick continues to wait for a call that may never come. The difference maker will be Adrian Peterson, who will have an easier time finding running lanes than when he faced the Seahawks.

Florio’s pick: Cardinals 23, Texans 17.
-------------
Buccaneers at Dolphins

MDS’s take: This is going to be an ugly game between two ugly offenses. I’ll take Jay Cutler to just slightly outplay Ryan Fitzpatrick.

MDS’s pick: Dolphins 14, Buccaneers 10.

Florio’s take: The Week One game that was delayed due to a hurricane comes at a time when both teams seems to be mired in quicksand. After three straight losses, the Dolphins get a chance to start to turn things around.

Florio’s pick: Dolphins 27, Buccaneers 17.
-----------
Chiefs at Giants

MDS’s take: This is the easiest game on the board to pick. The Giants have quit on Ben McAdoo, and the Chiefs will roll.

MDS’s pick: Chiefs 35, Giants 10.

Florio’s take: Andy Reid rarely loses after the bye, in any year. The Giants in 2017 rarely win.

Florio’s pick: Chiefs 37, Giants 17.
-------------
Redskins at Saints

MDS’s take: The Saints are playing as well as anyone in the NFL right now, and they’ll keep their march to the playoffs going.

MDS’s pick: Saints 30, Redskins 17.

Florio’s take: The Redskins have shown that it can win a big game on the road, and this is a big game on the road. But it may be bigger than what the Redskins can handle, given the dramatic improvement of the Saints, on both sides of the ball.

Florio’s pick: Saints 27, Redskins 23.
--------------
Bills at Chargers

MDS’s take: Nathan Peterman gets his first career start, while the Chargers don’t know who their quarterback will be, as Philip Rivers is in the concussion protocol. That makes this a tough game to pick but I’ll go with the Chargers.

MDS’s pick: Chargers 20, Bills 17.

Florio’s take: Nathan Peterman could eventually become a very good quarterback for the Bills. For now, a baptism by lightning bolt may be too much to handle.

Florio’s pick: Chargers 28, Bills 17.
------------
Bengals at Broncos

MDS’s take: The Broncos have gone into the tank in recent weeks, but the Bengals’ offense probably won’t put many points on the board in Denver. I’ll pick the home team in a close and low-scoring game.

MDS’s pick: Broncos 14, Bengals 13.

Florio’s take: Two years ago, a late-season showdown between these two teams had a postseason bye on the line. This season, both teams have had their playoff hopes go farewell long ago.

Florio’s pick: Broncos 17, Bengals 12.
--------------
Patriots vs. Raiders

MDS’s take: The altitude of Mexico City will make this game an interesting one in the kicking game, and a 70-yard field goal isn’t out of the question. Look for Tom Brady to complete some deep passes against the Raiders’ secondary and win a high-scoring game.

MDS’s pick: Patriots 35, Raiders 31.

Florio’s take: Whether Massachusetts, California, or Mexico, the Raiders simply aren’t ready to keep pace with the Patriots.

Florio’s pick: Patriots 34, Raiders 20.
------------
Eagles at Cowboys

MDS’s take: The Cowboys are reeling, and the Eagles coming to town isn’t going to make life any easier.

MDS’s pick: Eagles 24, Cowboys 17.

Florio’s take: It’s desperation time for Dallas, and sometimes desperation is the difference. The Cowboys find a higher gear and secure a hard-fought win, delaying (but not preventing) the inevitable clinching of the division by the Eagles.

Florio’s pick: Cowboys 27, Eagles 24.
------------
Falcons at Seahawks

MDS’s take: The Falcons played one of their best games of the season on Sunday and the Seahawks are struggling with injuries, but I still like Seattle to take this one.

MDS’s pick: Seahawks 20, Falcons 17.

Florio’s take: Russell Wilson’s one-man band continues to find a way to make something close enough to actual music in Seattle.

Florio’s pick: Seahawks 20, Falcons 13.

What Makes Sean McVay Special

I wanted to share a short film break down I uploaded to my YouTube channel. By no means am I an expert on Xs and Os like some on the board, but I thought I'd post this anyways. In my break down I compare two identical formations resulting in two completely different plays, this Imo is what keeps defenses on their heels when we can run mutliple plays from the same formation.

Let me know what you think and subscribe if you like the video. Cheers!
