My Short Take:

Coming from a small school playing during the part of the season that rookies generally hit a wall be it physical or emotional he is just playing and getting better. Yes he has made mistakes hi share for sure but he just comes back play after play. There is a reason Coach and JG16 keep going back to him. Admirable performance today Kid.

Tennessee A Mess!

A very passionate fan base that is now running amok, I can't imagine who would take the job, but it was not fair bringing up the Penn State garbage on Greg Schiano, they just did not want him because he was a defensive coach and this fan base is dilusional. Hopefully they can find somebody to turn around this mess, but the fans need to understand just who they are right now...BTW they get all high & mighty with the thought of hiring Schiano, but I'm willing to bet the house, they would welcome Bobby Petrino with open arms.

MVP of the Rams: Andrew Whitworth

I have been thinking about which player the Rams could lose where it would all fall apart if he was out. Gurley and Goff come to mind, being skill players...Losing either would be horrific. Losing Donald would be horrible too, but there is still hope if he's out. Then there is our Pro Bowl LT.

If Whit was to go down, there is no one that could replace him. Saffold would try if he was put there, but we saw in his early years that he wasn't quite good enough and he got injured trying to do that job. Goff being out would force Mannion in the role of starter, which would be almost as bad....I don't think he's ready to be the starting QB (and may never be). Losing Gurley would be a punch in the gut, but we have some pretty good back up RB's that could fill in, imo.

If we lost Whit, it would be time to look at the draft, imo. Whit goes down, Goff would be running for his life...and he can't run all that fast.

Saints at Rams

It's Game Day!

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember one of our core principles; we always aim to show respect for our team.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad.

Go Rams!

Lost keys

Having watched, read, and listened to hours of analysis on the Ram/Saints game, there are factors I believe have been lost in the shuffle. Here are mine...

Havenstein v Jordan. Two weeks ago, Clowney dominated Big Rob and McVay was slow to adjust. Even on the pivotal bomb to Woods, Rob had to get away with holding to prevent a strip/sack/safety or defensive TD. Enter Cam Jordan who is being snubbed for the Pro Bowl and needs to make a statement. Personally, I don’t want to see that one on one matchup at all...even though I appreciate Hav’s very good play this year.

Listen to Kromer. Sean McVay made his bones around a scheme that has evolved from the Shanahan zone running with WCO passing concepts. Wisely, McVay hired an accomplished power running line coach to integrate variety to the attack. It would seem the marriage is going well but here’s to hoping Kromer’s influence takes a bigger role. If New Orleans has to adjust their defense to account for power running (with help from the secondary) their second string corners will be exposed big time and our explosive plays will come in bunches.

Where’s Brockers? The force of the Saints running game is up the gut where Westbrooks is too light to hold up and Ogletree isn’t the thumper to limit the damage and Barron isn’t cast to be much help either. I believe THIS WEEK, Brockers needs to man the middle on early downs and switch to his 5 tech DE on obvious passing downs. If not, Max zinger will make me return to the days when I screamed for the Rams to acquire either Alex Mack or Rodney Hudson when they came available. (That’s not to say I’m unhappy w Sully).

The Reynolds/Thomas debate starts here once again. With Woods out and others getting his game reps ... this is the game where we see McVay’s true evaluation of these guys. All we really need to do is count reps and targets (along with types of routes run). My belief? I think he trusts neither very much so Tavon, Pharoh, and Everett will see the action we’ve been hoping from these two. Personally, I want to see what they can do.

Finally, does McVay keep Goff in safe mode and stay the course (limit turnovers at all costs) or do we start to see him take more chances as he opens the offense a bit? If it’s a Goff/Brees shootout, does Jared get the green light to fire at will? I kinda wanna see that happen (but only if we win).

Russell Wilson is a one-man band

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson hit an overlooked milestone in Monday night’s loss to the Falcons.

Wilson, who ran for 86 yards, now has 3,065 career rushing yards. That makes him just the 10th quarterback in NFL history to reach that mark.

Last year Wilson played through an ankle injury and had his worst rushing season, with a career-low 259 yards and a career-low 3.6 yards per carry. This year Wilson is having one of his best rushing seasons (in part because he’s had to when Seattle’s running backs have struggled) and has 376 rushing yards and a 6.5-yard average. Wilson is second only to Cam Newton among quarterbacks in rushing yards this season.

Here are the Top 10 rushing quarterbacks in NFL history:

6,109 Michael Vick
4,928 Randall Cunningham
4,239 Steve Young
4,002 Cam Newton
3,674 Fran Tarkenton
3,590 Steve McNair
3,459 Donovan McNabb
3,407 John Elway
3,128 Tobin Rote
3,065 Russell Wilson

Wilson is likely to surpass Rote for No. 9 on the career quarterback rushing list within the next few games. He probably won’t pass Elway for No. 8 until next year, but by the end of next season he has a good chance of moving into the Top 5 for quarterback rushing yards in NFL history.

I would Torch the Earth...

If I were Galactus, conqueror of worlds, after reading/watching all of the pundits slamming the Rams over this last week.

There was a reason why I tuned out before today, hearing all of the fairweather Ram advocates turning like spurned lovers in tearing down the Rams this week. Goff HAS to torch these Motherfreakers! I want a 60 burger, with McVay doing onside kicks with a minute left in the game, and Goff throwing an 80 yard bomb to Sammy Watkins for a TD in the final seconds...his 4th TD of the day!:fuelfire:

No freakin MERCY!

The Sean McVay Show

The Sean McVay Show

Rams head coach Sean McVay joined JB Long and D'Marco Farr to talk about his team losing 24-7 on the road to the Minnesota Vikings. McVay says the Rams didn't play "great complementary football," and that led to the loss. Also, McVay broke down what to expect this weekend for the Rams as they clash with the New Orleans Saints.

UCF Knights!!!

Two years ago, the Knights were a winless disappointment as coach George O’Leary decided he could juggle the athletic director job and the head coaching position. Now, under the leadership of the offensive genius known as Scott Frost, the Knights have completed their regular season at 11-0 and the highest scoring team in college football.

If you haven’t watched the Knights this season, you may be among the many doubters but you also have been missing out. UCF has played some of the most exciting football possible and capped it off on Black Friday with the best football game of the 2017 season against the rival USF Bulls who came in at 9-1. UCF was able to close out an insane 49-42 victory in front of a sold out home crowd of nearly 50,000.

If you think I’m overstating it, just watch the incredible game highlights:

Now we are heading into the AAC Championship game against a top 20 Memphis team whose only loss on the year was a 40-13 thrashing by the Knights. Is there anyone who still doubts this isn’t a top 10 team?

If any game is set up to benefit Tavon, it's this one

Saints losing Lattimore alone was a huge loss for them. The dropoff from him is profound, but it's worse than that for them as they're missing both CBs in this game and Vaccaro has been nursing a groin.

There should be space for him to work in on Sunday.

I've given the dude a hard time through the offseason, camp, and season, and I feel rightly so, but have to admit that as I look at this matchup IF he can go in there and catch the MFing ball this could be a real nice statement game for him.

Not counting on him here, of course, as I've learned my lesson with that dude. But it's possible we see a strong game from him in this one, and for those who are still hoping he'll work out in this offense there is reason for hope since he should see the field early and if he can produce McVay will feed him.
