Tavon and TE'S day??????

do we see a lot of tavon austin today......maybe if he shows some flashes we could possibly trade him for anything?......also i would love to see more of everett today......in my opinion he has been very dissapointing this year....he has shown some great flashes but with so many people saying that mcvay uses the tight ends and him being such a high pick i had some high expectations going into the year.....obviously I'm much more happy with winning then numbers but it would be nice to see like 5-6 catches out of him today.....im looking forward to seeing what we have in....

mannion..
everett...
young wideouts...
tavon...
FICKEN!!!!!
also curious to see how the defense holds up today....

New Uniforms (for Fun)

All of us can use this today....I like these feel they would be prefect giving us the blue & gold and on the road the uniforms the Rams donned for years until they went to the blue & whites in the 60's....Keep in mind they could don the blue & whites as throwbacks with this look as their primary....Blue at home canary yellow on the road.

My Schadenfreude Picks Today, Add Yours

Yes, I sometimes take joy in the pain of others...Mostly when those persons/teams are grade "A" a-holes!.

Cards @ Seahawks: Yes, it would seem that the Hawks should win this one, except the Cards have had their number at CLink the last couple of years. AND, the Hawks defense is suspect with all of the injuries. Maybe Adrian Peterson and Larry Fitzgerald's swan song? No, I am not afraid of the Rams meeting the Hawks in the playoffs, but I don't want the Hawks to even have the distinction of being playoff worthy, cuz fu.kk them!

Raiders @ Chargers: Wouldn't normally care about either team, but I don't want the Rams sharing the playoff stage with the San Diego interlopers. Iv'e heard that the Raider's riff-raff are about to take over Stub Hub, possibly making Rivers go silent count at home in a soccer stadium..lol. I want bad things to happen to Spanos financially until they move the team to San Antonio.

Please add your selections by taking joy in the pain of other teams....Don't pick the Rams vs Niners, cuz that's TOO easy!

End of the road in Seattle?

I think the locker room cracks expanded when they traded for the divisive Duane Brown.

I’ve also always thought Pete Carroll is a good coach when a team is winning. When there are troubles, he lacks something.

I know some are worried if Seattle sneaks in as a Wild Card, but I am not... I think this is a very fragile team. Our victory over them week 15 proved that, IMO.

If you read between the lines of Bennett’s comments, I think the players know it too.

Sunday could be Seattle finale for Jimmy Graham, Michael Bennett and others

RENTON, Wash. -- Michael Bennett, the Seattle Seahawks' ninth-year defensive lineman, has been around long enough to know how it works in the NFL.

Getting younger and cheaper is always the name of the game.

"I think things are going to be different," he said recently when asked about the future of Seattle's defense beyond the 2017 season. "That's a part of the NFL. The NFL is a transitional sport and transitional teams. Every year, there's a new transition and new guys and new coaches and new staffs. It's about who can win and how fast they can win, and it's about 'can we get a guy cheaper than the guy in front of him?' This is bound to happen and everything has a shelf life, and us as players, we have shelf lives and our team together has a shelf life."

Several Seahawks might be nearing the end of their shelf life in Seattle as age, salary, injury, contract status and/or performance -- the usual suspects -- could work against their return to the team in 2018.

With the playoffs up in the air for Seattle, here's a look at nine players who could be playing their final game with the Seahawks in Sunday's regular-season finale -- or in the case of three injured stars on defense, might have already done so.

Pending unrestricted free agents

TE Jimmy Graham:
When Graham scored a 3-yard touchdown on his lone catch in Seattle's win against Dallas last week, it was emblematic of his season. He has 10 touchdown receptions to rank in a tie for second among all players and first among tight ends. But his 475 yards through 15 games are well off his 2016 total of 923. That includes a net of 2 yards on two receptions during the Seahawks' past three games as Graham has all but disappeared from their offense save for his latest touchdown. He has also dropped seven passes, according to ESPN charting, which is tied for second most among all players. Graham's long-awaited emergence as a red zone threat will no doubt be enticing to the Seahawks. At the same time, he's 31 with a serious knee injury in his recent past and could potentially still command a contract that pays him close to the $10 million his previous deal averaged.

DT Sheldon Richardson: He's been much more impactful than his lone sack would suggest. Richardson has been strong against the run and has made two of the more significant defensive plays of Seattle's season -- an interception against the Rams in October and a forced fumble near the goal line against Philadelphia in December. The Seahawks probably wouldn't have given up a second-round pick to acquire Richardson in a trade right before the season if they didn't think they'd have a decent chance of re-signing him. How much north of, say, $10 million will they be willing to go? The Seahawks pulled the trigger on the Richardson trade after learning that rookie Malik McDowell would be sidelined following an ATV accident. It's unclear if McDowell will ever be able to play. His status will presumably affect Richardson's situation to some degree.

WR Paul Richardson: He's had a breakout season in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, catching 44 passes for 703 yards and six touchdowns. The yardage and touchdown totals are more than what he accumulated over his first three seasons combined. Richardson has emerged as Seattle's No. 2 receiver this season behind Doug Baldwin and ahead of Tyler Lockett. Equally significant: he's only missed one game over the past two seasons, showing durability that should mitigate some of the concerns about the injuries that slowed him earlier in his career. In a recent Insider piece for ESPN.com, Field Yates identified Richardson as a pending free agent who could command a bigger deal than most people assume.

Situations affected by injuries

CB Richard Sherman: He might have made this list even if he were healthy. After all, the Seahawks openly shopped Sherman last offseason but hung onto him when no favorable deal materialized. His injury situation adds to the uncertainty. Sherman suffered a ruptured Achilles in Week 10, ending what could have been another All-Pro season -- and possibly his distinguished Seahawks career. Sherman will be 30, entering the final year of his contract and coming off a serious injury. He's scheduled to count $13.2 million against the 2018 cap and would save Seattle $11 million if he were released or traded.

SS Kam Chancellor and DE Cliff Avril: They're in similar situations, having suffered neck injuries that could keep them from playing again. Coach Pete Carroll has been vague about the exact nature of their injuries but has said that both face uncertain football futures. Chancellor just signed an extension with Seattle last offseason and Avril is signed through 2018. Avril's age -- he turns 32 in April -- and contract situation would have made him a potential salary-cap casualty even if he hadn't injured his neck.

Potential cap casualties

DL Bennett: The operative word here is "potential." This one is by no means certain. Bennett is still a disruptive force. He ranks second on the team with 8.5 sacks and is again playing more than any other Seahawks defensive linemen -- by a wide margin -- despite dealing with injuries to his foot and more recently his knee. The Seahawks just gave him a contract extension last December and would incur a significant amount of dead money -- more than $5 million -- if they were to release him this offseason, leaving the net savings at a little more than $2 million (or more if they were to designate him a post-June 1 cut and thereby push some of the dead money to next year). But that might be enough given that Bennett will be 33 next season, an age when his skills could rapidly decline.

P Jon Ryan: This is another one that's possible but not a given. Ryan, 36, is the longest-tenured Seahawk and is two years into a four-year extension he signed in 2016. The Seahawks would eat $1.2 million in dead money by releasing him this offseason while saving a net $2 million.

CB Jeremy Lane: The Seahawks cutting Lane seems like a foregone conclusion. He's been benched twice this season and was traded to the Houston Texans only to return to Seattle because of a failed physical. His contract includes a $7.25 million cap charge for next season, which is obviously prohibitive for a backup cornerback.

49er’s at Rams

It's Game Day!

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember one of our core principles; we always aim to show respect for our team.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad.

Go Rams!

Garoppolo and Shanahan for the next 5 years or Mcvay and Goff? | GMFB 12/28/17

McVoff vs Shannahoppolo is going to be very interesting in the next few years! I know who you guys think will win but interesting take.

p.s. we have the X Factors
1. Gurley
2. Future HOF Donald and company on D
3. Special Teams dominance

This chick pisses me off sometimes, she reminds me a bitter St Lou person meh... get over it.
She does have a point. The Whiners have a ton of cap space this next year. They can Jag it up and bring alot of talent to the team next year...

Areas the Rams need to improve for the playoffs

Just some stuff off the top of my head I think they need to work on:

1. Replays/Challenges. The Rams have a "speed of processing the decision to challenge" problem, and a "when do we challenge" problem. And just my opinion here, but watching the game live is the issue. This is why I think fans so often have the call right, because we watch the live feed and see the primary camera angles immediately afterward, and thus have a better feel of "holy F challenge that now!"

My proposed fix is to have someone on the feed who is responsible for telling McVay to challenge ONLY watching the game on TV, or at the least having a TV feed right there at his fingertips. It probably sounds crazy and I might be way out of wack on this one, but IMO it would speed up the decision making process on whether to challenge. And if they already have that type of thing set up, then they need to replace who's doing it or hire someone new for that specific purpose.

2. Goff's accuracy on the run. This has been a problem for Goff all year to my eye. His accuracy dips horribly when he's moving faster than a shuffle, and at some point if he doesn't start to fix this it might cost us in a critical situation.

3. Working the refs. I think this is something McVay needs to improve on. In that game vs the Titans the officiating was effin terrible and the Rams did get some big calls in their favor, but the continued holding of Quinn and some of the other guys up front without calls was out of control.

IMO the non-calls are something that don't get enough press, and they translate back to the head coach's ability to work the refs and make them aware of the other team's BS.

4. Tip and INT drills. Rams need to do this bad IMO. Seems like of late they've left a lot of turnovers out on the field, and I think it's something that would benefit them greatly to improve on when it's sudden death playoff time.

EDIT:

5. TEs. Forgot about them, they're a group that I think have the ability to raise our offense to an even higher level of potency if one of them can emerge as a consistent passing game weapon. Higs had a couple nice catches last game, the one along the sideline was superb too, but they also have Everett with good hands, body control and RAC ability.

Historical: 20 All time best Ram teams in order

A list from another board.
How does he not have 1999 at number 1?

#1. 2001

Liked: Defense was great and offense was all time Rams good; held the 12-4 49ers to 220 yards each game. Balanced on offense more than most great offensive teams because they could spread ball around in clutch situations. Solid and top 3 defense with good corners. Warner’s best year as a pro, by far. The competition was stiff, that is why the stats werne’t as good. Faulks 7 runs in a row in the NFCC was one of the best things he ever did. Martz made that happen…too bad they didn’t ‘balance’ themselves more….too many hits on Warner (last 3 games—got injured, too because they didn’t rest started, and couldn’t run the ball..so, they threw…stupid—that shows Martz didn’t see the big picture). McVay at 31 does!

Didn’t like: Not tough enough in super bowl (see Holt on that first pass to him) and Proehl’s fumble. Were they united? Were they ready? They were the best team that day anyway—they just didin’t win.

#2. 1999: I just don’t fully enjoy watching games that don’t have some power running
Liked: Passing game, creativity, passion, and Fast D that stopped runs up the gut
Great special teams
Didn’t like: easy sched. no rushing game in playoffs

#3. 1979
Liked: Oline came together with Kent Hill—it took him a few games; he actually was pretty awful his first few—then the whole team changed when he became the man. He benched 500+, had long arms, and always, always dominated Randy White! Entire O line dominatd Tampa in NFCC. D was great when Larry Brooks and corners were healthy. Ferragamo was a great thrower down the field….hit tight spaces, but had A LOT of time with one of the best O lines ever protecting him.
Didn’t like: inconsistent all year; injuries all year, and Pat Haden. Lost focus early on.

#4. 1989
So close to 13-3 and wjnning division. 49er and Bill games probably top 5 heartbreaker games ever (non playoff). Could they have beaten 49ers without the 4 weeks in a row on the road? Vince Newsome sticks out as the heart of the team. Wanted this team to go to the super bowl I think more than any other.
Didn’t like: no front 7 sparq guys—tough but slow. Though Kevin Greene was always fun

#5. 2017

If this team wins 2 playoff games, it goes to my #2 all time favorite team; well rounded on offense and defense, and can run when others teams know they will---not dependent on draws like 1989 and 1999-2001. Maybe the most consistently good in all phases Rams team ever. They could run better than 1999, 2001 and 1989 teams, while being able to pass at a B+ level. The best O line since those 80s days by far (for my taste). Ignore the stats....Faulk couldnf run in every game like Gurley has
Didn’t like: Goff not developed yet, and he looks lost in a collapsing pocket---maybe because his arm can’t generate power 30 yards out---independent of his legs/hips. Don’t like the corners at all, other than NRC.

#6. 1986
Because of Everett there was hope late in the season. Tough, tough D. Good DBs, a little slow and undynamic at LB, but rock solid. Incredible O line, Newberry played great as did all. Think Pankey was just a shade below Pro Bowl level. Dickerson maybe had as a good a year as he did in 1984….don’t forget, diff sched, diff QBs and everything.
Didn’t like: no passing game until last 3 games; averaged 120 a game through week
13. If you took away Ellard they were dead…especially with TonyHunger87 down.
We miss you Nelson! Got shut out 6-0 in one game…..cost them division.

#7. 1980
Considering they didn’t have Tyler, it was an amazing year running and passing. Ferragmo had 30 TDs in the final 14 games; that is good by today’s standard! I think they could have gone to the super bowl with Tyler running and catching….and their D was still good enough at the Corners and D line. Watching Kent Hill become the best pass blocking and pulling guard was a 6 year joy (though 1981 he wasn’t as good)

Didn’t like Ferragamo lost some games (especially the playoff);

#8. 1985
Liked: The defense had the heart of a lion. A top 5 defense the whole year until the very end. Stopped Payton (1.9 ypc or so) in the NFCC. Dickerson got it going, but not like 1984.
Didn’t like: Not a pro offense; Brock didn’t get going until about week 10 or so…then he played pretty well….but, never had the WRs, nor a pro OC.

#9. 1978
Liked: They beat Dallas, Vikings, the Oilers and the Steelers…that is 3 title game teams!! They were the best team in the regular season, again.
Didn’t like: killed by Dallas at home NFCC; Haden could hit flairs and long balls and a pas to the TE—that was it…really not accurate.

#10. 2000
Liked: Offense was the most fun offense to watch ever. Trent Green was good, but no Warnre when it came to the red zone. Faulk and Holt had amazing years.
Didn’t like: Inconsis Defense. Kevin Carter was all world in 1999 and just something much lower after that, even with the Titans. He could take on 2 350+ pounders and stuff a double team…what DE in history could do that (Reggie W?)

#11. 1974
QB chairs.Don’t remember much other than the 17-14 win over the Vikings (Jack Snow)

#12 1976
Beat Dallas in the playoffs. Killed by special teams all year. Missed a 30 yarder in OT in week 2.

#13.1983
Robinson got that team to play hard. They could have been 11-5. A solid team. Couldnt play w Redskins

#14. 1988
Everett had an amazing year; Dominated by Vikings DBs in the playoffs.

#15. 1984
Goal line in playoffs, not pro passing
game
#16. 1975
Dallas killed em. Preston Pearson dropped that TD pass in the NFCC. Dominated Cards in the playoffs. YOungblood! McClutch 202 yards.

#17. 1977
Old Vikings shut them down, that alone makes it a sad season. Started with Namath, but never got going. Still think he would have done better than Haden. The O line was good enough, Joe just needed time.

#18. 2003
The victory against the Bears was a typical game. They went down the field to win it with Bulger making clutch throws to Holt. But, the Bears weren’t that good. Easy sched allowed them to be 12-4. I had thought the 2017 Rams were going down the same path, until the beat the Saints. The 2003 team didn’t have a a playoff D---to stop run consistently.

#19. 2015
Beat seattle twice and AZ in AZ. The most physical Rams team I ever saw….more than in 1985, I think. Not a pro offense, not motivated every game, but fun to watch them terrorize NFC west teams.

#20. 2002
They were close to making a playoff run, but their RT doomed them aginst Redskins.

#21. 1998
The O line was great. Wiegert at RT could have moved to left guard, and we would have been ok, but I think he got 5 yrs/25 mill offer for Jags. Not a consistent offense
The defense was top 10…..the foundation was set for 1999….just needed Gurley and Goff to step up, or Faulk and Warner!

#22. 1995
Loved watching Bruce get doubled and tripled every game, and still beat people. Jet D was ghost scheme. Sean Gilbert at DE, not DT? Hmmmm, I guess Dmarco Farr caused that.

#23. 1981
Loved watching the DBs play. O line didn’t play well the whole year. Tyler was an amazing RB that year…pro bowl leve.

https://www.ocregister.com/2017/12/...as-rams-opt-to-rest-jared-goff-against-49ers/

The Rams (11-4) have clinched the NFC West title and a first-round home playoff game and cannot play their way into a bye, so Coach Sean McVay made the prudent decision to rest Goff, running back Todd Gurley, offensive linemen Andrew Whitworth and John Sullivan, defensive lineman Aaron Donald and others.

That means a backup-heavy lineup will face the 49ers (5-10), and most notably, Mannion is scheduled to play the entire game with Goff as his backup.

“I’m super excited,” Mannion said after Wednesday’s practice at Cal Lutheran. “It’s the opportunity of a lifetime. It’s something I’ve wanted for my whole career, my whole life. To get to do it is a great opportunity for me and a great opportunity for our team. Coach McVay talked about it with everybody. We’re all going out there to try to win the game. I’m just excited to be out there and get a chance to play.”
This isn’t an ideal situation for Mannion, who likely will play behind three backup linemen and without Gurley, the Rams’ biggest offensive threat, but in some ways, it’s a no-lose situation for Mannion.

Given the numbers of Rams who will sit out, Mannion isn’t expected to work wonders, but if he thrives, it could open some eyes around the league. Mannion is under contract through the 2018 season, but in a league that always is starved for a next-big-thing quarterback, Mannion could land on some teams’ radar.

A third-round draft pick in 2015, Mannion has appeared in six regular-season games — mostly in late-game duty — and completed 11 of 16 attempts for 66 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. Mannion played three preseason games this year and completed 64.5 percent of his attempts for 490 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

And while McVay and coaches such as offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur and quarterbacks coach Greg Olson have been credited for Goff’s development, they’ve also been working with Mannion, who said he has improved even though he hasn’t played much in 2017.

“Absolutely. Sean and Matt and Olly have all been great,” Mannion said. “It’s a great environment for a quarterback to be in, I think. Really, all of our coaching has been great for us. They know how to articulate things so that they make sense for a quarterback. I feel like I’ve developed a lot this year, and I think our team has been playing great football. So I’m excited to get a chance to play this week.”

McVay did not disclose the full list of players who will miss Sunday’s game, but it also stands to include offensive lineman Rodger Saffold, linebackers Mark Barron, Alec Ogletree, Connor Barwin and Robert Quinn, plus receiver Cooper Kupp, who aggravated a knee injury last week against Tennessee.
https://www.buildingthedam.com/2017...art-sunday-for-los-angeles-rams-against-49ers

Goff being moved out of the starter’s spot for the week now means the reigns of the offense will be handed over to third-year pro Sean Mannion, as confirmed by a multiple of news outlets, including Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News. The start will be Mannion’s first of his career and quite possibly, the most authentic football action that he’s seen at the professional moment.

In his previous playing time, Mannion has mostly played “mop up” duty in blowout wins or losses.

The good news for Mannion is that he’ll finally have a chance to prove himself for either the Rams or another NFL team, who will surely be scouting the unheralded Oregon State product. However, the bad news is that he’ll have to undertake his starting debut with a large portion of the Rams’ usual offense on the bench.

Besides Goff, running back Todd Gurley and offensive linemen Andrew Whitworth and John Sullivan are also expected to be held out of the line-up as well. Additionally, important targets like Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp will all likely see reduced workloads as well.

In Lehman’s terms, Mannion will basically be operating with a second string group around him, at a multitude of different positions. However, that shouldn’t dampen what is expected to be an exciting opportunity for the former Beavers star.

http://theramswire.usatoday.com/2017/12/30/nfl-los-angeles-rams-49ers-expert-picks-week-17/

Week 17 games are often difficult to predict because of the number of games that simply come with no postseason implications. For a team like the Rams, they’re opting to rest their starters against the 49ers, which flipped the point spread from seven points in favor of L.A. to the 49ers being 3.5-point favorites.

It’ll be Sean Mannion and Malcolm Brown leading the offense with a backup offensive line blocking for them on Sunday, while the defense will be without Aaron Donald. Despite the fact that the Rams are resting the majority of their top starters, the majority of NFL experts are taking L.A.

Rams on Directv?

I live in South Florida and see that the Redskins and others have a weekly show on DTV sports channels which I subscribe to. I see the Lakers also have a show.
Does anyone know if the rams have a show on DTV?

I would hate to know that I have missed it all year but better for the playoff run than never.

"Nigerian Prince's" Squire? busted for email scam

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crim...uisiana/ar-BBHvlQd?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartanntp

A Louisiana man was arrested in connection with the "Nigerian prince" scheme that has scammed people out of thousands of dollars, police announced on Thursday.

Michael Neu, 67, faces 269 counts of wire fraud and money laundering after being taken into custody following an 18-month investigation, according to the Slidell Police Department. Police said Neu is suspected of being the scam's "middle man" who obtained money and "subsequently wired" funds to his co-conspirators in Nigeria.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, the phishing scam begins with an email purporting to be from a high-ranking Nigerian official who seeks financial assistance or personal information to retrieve an alleged inheritance.

Though the scheme is often the butt of late-night TV jokes, people have fallen victim to the scam, officials say.

"Most people laugh at the thought of falling for such a fraud, but law enforcement officials report annual losses of millions of dollars to these schemes," the Slidell police said in a statement.

Authorities warn to be cautious when receiving suspicious emails or phone calls from unknown individuals and urge people not to disclose personal or financial information. Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said he hopes Neu's arrest serves as a warning to the public.

“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is," Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said in a statement. "Never give out personal information over the phone, through e-mail, cash checks for other individuals, or wire large amounts of money to someone you don’t know. 99.9 percent of the time, it’s a scam.”

THOUSAND OAKS — Trumaine Johnson hopes this isn’t his only successful season with the Rams.

Johnson, the Rams’ top cornerback, understands his six-season tenure with the Rams could be in its twilight, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent when this season ends.

A few months ago, Johnson seemed resigned to departing from the only NFL team for which he has played, and hinted that the Rams no longer seemed to want him. Now, with the Rams enjoying what is by far the best season of Johnson’s career, he seems to have some optimism about staying around.

“I don’t think tend to think about it too much, but of course I think about it,” Johnson said after Friday’s practice at Cal Lutheran. “I know it will come. It usually comes after the season, so we’ll see. My focus is on this last game and making a run in the playoffs, and everything else will take care of itself.”

Either way, Johnson will be fine. He turns 28 on Monday and still should have some prime seasons left. Even if the Rams don’t re-sign Johnson, other teams will be happy to offer multi-year contracts to the lanky team captain who has 11 career interceptions and has been solid in coverage this season.

There’s something more, though. Johnson is a native of Stockton and has enjoyed having family nearby, and he feels something for the Rams, who drafted him in the third round out of Montana in 2012.

Johnson has yet to sign a second (negotiated) contract, though. His rookie deal expired after the 2016 season, and the Rams applied their franchise-player tag to him. They hoped to sign him to an extension then, but it didn’t happen, so Johnson was tagged for a second consecutive year.

The NFL doesn’t allow for a player to be tagged in three consecutive years, so this is it for Johnson, who is the Rams’ highest-paid player this season at more than $16.7 million, thanks to the franchise tag.

It had been a while since Johnson talked about his situation, and even then, he didn’t say much. During training camp, when it became clear that Johnson would start the season without a new contract, he politely answered questions but deflected most of them and said he was “just here to win games.”

Johnson almost seemed to be hurt, as he told reporters, “I believe the Rams are going in a different direction at the end of the season, and that’s out of my control.”

The saga took a twist at the end of training camp when teammates voted Johnson as one of their team captains for the first time in his career. At the time, Johnson’s “win games” mantra seemed like a throwaway line by a player who wanted to avoid questions. Then the Rams won the NFC West.

For a player who had never won more than eight games in a season, it felt like a jackpot.

“Honestly, I meant what I said,” Johnson said. “I came back to win games. We’ve had a tremendous year. Big ‘ups’ to my teammates. We all bought into what (Coach) Sean McVay was preaching, and from the beginning, it’s been working. The ultimate goal was to win games, and I’m a winner at heart.”

Johnson said he hasn’t changed much in his role as team captain — something he called “a big honor” — but Johnson has been asked to carry a big load in the secondary this season.

Kayvon Webster, the Rams’ other starting cornerback, missed two games in September with a shoulder injury, then tore an Achilles tendon three weeks ago in the game against Philadelphia.

Johnson already drew the assignment of the opponent’s top receiver, but now, with Webster out for the season, it’s imperative for Johnson to thrive. The pressure is on, particularly as the Rams prepare for the playoffs, but Johnson said he’s having more fun than ever before in his NFL career.

“Big time, man,” Johnson said. “When you’re winning games, the whole locker room is stress-free. Because this is our whole life. You put so much work in, just to go out there and play 60 minutes. Winning games is everything.”

The Rams appear to be set up for long-term success under McVay, but this coming offseason will include a lot of decisions regarding impending free agents, particularly in the secondary.

Johnson’s contract is up and Webster has one year remaining, but it’s not yet known whether he will be ready for the start of the season. Starting safety Lamarcus Joyner also is set to reach free agency and the Rams would like to bring him back, and of course, lineman Aaron Donald’s contract situation still looms.

It’s still possible the Rams could come back to Johnson, who won’t be eligible to sign with another team until March. Asked, directly, if he thought a new contract could be worked out with the Rams, Johnson smiled.

“I’d love to be around,” Johnson said. “But again, I understand the business side of it, so we’ll see. We’ll see in these next couple months.”

BARRON CONCERN

Linebacker Mark Barron, who missed last week’s game with an Achilles injury and won’t play in Sunday’s season finale against San Francisco, isn’t a sure thing to return for the playoffs, McVay said.

“He’s such a tough — physically and mentally — guy,” McVay said, “but when something like this creeps up, it definitely concerns you because you don’t really know. Is he going to be available? Is he not? It’s really all predicated on how he feels that day. This is something that you monitor day to day.”

Barron did not practice this week and is on the list of players who will sit out Sunday’s game. McVay said he values rest for some of his players over the possibility of claiming the No. 3 seed in the NFC bracket.

Quarterback Jared Goff, running back Todd Gurley, receiver Cooper Kupp, offensive linemen Andrew Whitworth and John Sullivan, Donald, Barron and linebacker Alec Ogletree will not play, and McVay hinted that players such as offensive lineman Rodger Saffold and receivers Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins would receive minimal playing time.

The Rams made it official Friday, activating safety Cody Davis from injured reserve and placing outside linebacker Matt Longacre on injured reserve.Davis appeared in six games for the Rams, making 19 tackles, an interception and three pass breakups. He injured his quadriceps against the Jaguars, and the Rams placed him on injured reserve November 3 after the injury lingered.

Davis will work into the secondary in Los Angeles’ sub-packages and will resume his role as a core special teams player.“Excited and happy for all of the success that this team has gotten accomplished,” Davis said, via the team’s website. “But sitting on the sidelines, you’re just itching to get back out there, so it feels great to be out practicing with my teammates.”

Longacre has a back injury that kept him out of the Rams’ 27-23 victory over Tennessee on Sunday. He played in 14 games this season. The third-year pro made 23 tackles and 5.5 sacks, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

Audio link to Fisher interview

Found a link to Jeff Fisher’s recent interview, so judge for yourself. (Didn’t see if anyone posted this already). Most relevant Rams segment is from the 23 min mark to the 27 min mark.

My take: good guy, flawed coach. Yes, helped replenish roster. Yes, had some bad luck with Bradford tearing ACL two years in a row. Yes, relocation is tough.

But I agree with the general consensus that what is glaring is what Fisher DIDN’T say. No accountability, no acknowledgment of the complete disaster on offense.

Edit: I don’t see any thread on this, so apologies if there was one and I missed it
