Ramdom Thoughts Thread

So what if we had a thread for our posters who have an impulsive need to share their random thoughts on the Rams?
Now I wont pretend to know when an idea deserves its own thread, but it seems like we have multiple threads on each topic and a never ending stream of new threads of the "What if", "What I think" and "Would you?" variety.

Dont get me wrong, I love lots of topics. The more conversation the better.... unless that conversation is already being had in other threads, or if the thread is just random thoughts and opinions that might not need their own thread, espescially when there is so much relevant Rams news breaking.

I dont know, just a thought...
(This post totally belongs in the Ramdom Thoughts thread)

That Les Snead fella has been a busy mofo, huh?

Imagine my surprise, after coming home from a delightful afternoon of playing poker, to learn that my personal preferred scenario for filling the other outside CB spot had come to pass.

And Shields had been added as frosting on the cake? Pinch me.

That’s 4 MAJOR trades and one signing in the span of 13 days, y’all.

Hard to keep up, isn’t it? Hope Demoff has an app to keep track of our cap space. And FA hasn’t even started yet!

For those concerned about MP and Talib being problem child knuckleheads? I get it, but consider this. Both players seem to be 100% committed to their teammates and to winning. Their former teammates seemed to love them and now will miss them. Those are traits that the Rams (and especially Wade) can work with. Neither are the criminal, crazy, wife beater types, IOW.

On a happier note, imagine the future dilemma of Russel Wilson, Jimmy Garoppolo, and whoever the Cards can come up with at QB. Where do they throw the ball now? Which CB do they pick on? Lol.

If S&M finish this D as we all think they will, there will be coming an upgrade at NT, both OLB, and at ILB in terms of scheme fit. That’s all on top of AD and Brockers. Our pass rush will be unpredictable and ferocious. Our run D should be vastly improved. Our secondary is now elite.

This could be one smothering D created in Wade’s image. And, outside of Talib, a very young one, at that. To complement the #1 O from last year and a superb ST?

The NFC should be worried. Very worried.

About the AD contract impasse...

I think that an AD extension is still very possible, but it will require two things.

1) AD must drop any extraneous deal breaking demands such as an opt out clause, if any.

2) AD must be halfway reasonable in his salary demands. Say, around $20 million per for 5 or 6 years? No 3 year crap. Heavy guarantees should be no problem.

If both parties can agree on the above, I think this could be done by Monday.

Clearly, the holdup is coming from AD’s side. Rams want to extend and say that they’ve set the money aside. Sooooo...

The ball is in AD’s court (together with his pos agent, that is). Rams have all the leverage and will continue to do so through ‘20. Maybe even ‘21.

Beyond a certain amount, AD’s salary becomes a net negative for the overall cap welfare of the entire team.

Here’s some food for thought, although some might consider it heresy. The Rams are in the process of building a magnificent D. They are already but a NT, 2 OLB, and an ILB away, IMO. And they have cap room, the entire FA period, plus the draft ahead in which to fill those spots. VERY doable.

Looking down the road, their need for an elite AD will diminish. Yeah, they’ll want him, no doubt. But will they really NEED him? They might have a top 5 D either with him or without him.

Should the tail be allowed to wag the dog? And this is coming from a huge AD fan. I’m just an even bigger Ram fan.

Rams 2018 Opponents

Okay. I look at our opponents and...hoooo baby.

This could really work out for us, depending on when games happen.

We have our toughest games at home.

The ONLY tough games I see on the road are New Orleans and maybe Denver if they fix the QB position.

I honestly think it's possible for us to go undefeated at home.

And the idea that we got Minny, GB AND Philly... ALL AT HOME...

This might set us up to go all the way.

This might explain in part the "win now" feeling we're all getting.

Goff and Gurley still on their rookie contracts and HOPEFULLY AD getting paid, setting up the D to dominate for years to come.

HOME

San Francisco
Minnesota
Green Bay
Philadelphia
Los Angeles Chargers
Kansas City

AWAY

Since we're getting all of our wishes...

I'm gonna put it out there... I'd LOVE for Navarro Bowman to come to us on a 2 year contract. (Or, maybe Zach Brown seeing as McVay most certainly knows him)

Bowman or Brown next to Barron would be amazing and allow our Rams to focus on getting a DL with the first pick.

Heck, with Bowman or Brown in the fold, we could decide if it's worth it to trade up if Vea makes it to 17.

If Vea makes it to 17, I want to jump the Seahawks and get him and look at edge rusher later (I don't want to lose Brockers' numbers because he's moved back inside...)

I think there's still a chance we go for Josh Jackson from Iowa to learn from Aqib Talib and then go for Edge later or maybe FA.

Anyway... since we seem to getting most of what we want, I wanted to put that out there.

I think especially Bowman would be a danged BEAST playing next to Barron behind our DL...

Alden Gonzalez on Recent Ogletree Trade and Other Moves

Alden Gonzalez on Recent Ogletree Trade and Other Moves –Audio

Alden Gonzalez, ESPN Rams Beat Writer joins Mornings and talks about how the Rams moves have been met in the locker room, what these moves mean to the Rams cap space needed for future Goff, Gurley and Donald contracts, why Sammy Watkins wasn’t tagged, their strategy at the LB position, what will they do with their #23 draft pick and more.

Listen to Gonzalez Talk Rams

With CB taken care of....

....any chance McVay intends to continue to fix D with FA, and then be in position to possibly move up a few spots to take his future LT in McGlinchy even if it means a red shirt year behind Whitworth. Probably would make McGlinchy a better player learning for a season behind Whitworth. Both are similar in stature and skill set. And McVay knows how important having a franchise LT to pair up with his young QB would be.

Nickname for the DBs

Joyner, Johnson, Peters, and Talib are quite the formittable core. I think we should start to think of nicknames for the squad so Rams On Demand can take credit for it.

Just to start the brainstorming session I believe they should be called “Ground Control” because they have all the power in the skies at LAX. Corny, but come on that’s good. Anyone have another good idea?

Rams front office for a long time has taken a lot of grief. Not just from us fans but from other fans. Ridiculed us for draft picks, free agent signings and trades. Les Snead has shown his worth and he's proudly displaying some serious brass nuggets. The turn around of this team in the last year and 2 months isn't just about the amazing new Head Coach we have. It shows a lot about that guy wearing the GM title. Look at that list from Siciliano in the last 2 weeks. Simply amazing. And he's not done!

Going All Out for Wade?

I am so messed up. Snead is freaking blowing up our defense, and then grabbing players all over the place before the FA period. I have no clue if Peters, Talib, and the others coming (You KNOW Snead isn't done). It seems like this has gone from uncertainty to a Super Bowl, balls-to-the-wall attempt. My freakin' God, it's like Wade said to Les, "This is my last year, lets win it." I don't know, but we better get a a guy like Watkins to help out with the other WR's...Our defense is going to be killer.
