Rams preferred Sam Howell for backup QB

The Seattle Seahawks surely made plenty of 12’s around the Pacific Northwest scratch their heads when they traded for former Washington Commodes quarterback Sam Howell. Some were not thrilled at the move. Whether it was being unimpressed by Howell’s play or the fact he likely signifies the Seahawks will not be drafting a top quarterback prospect, this was not a move that made many excited.

However, there was an interesting little tidbit shared recently that might change some opinions… at least a little. It turns out there was a bit of a bidding war for Howell’s services, which the Seahawks won. But who did they beat? The Los Angeles Rams.

What if............

I was just thinking over the Rams and the QB position. I remember when the discussion of Stafford's age came up and then the recent talk of selecting a young QB....... now if they move up and select a QB all of this will of course mean nothing, but knowing McVay, I get the feeling we could see Jimmy G be our QB of the near future.

The irony of him being our QB is a little funny, but under McVay I can see him being twice as good as he was with the 49ers. He is 32, wouldn't cost the world to be signed to a long-term deal after this year.

Over the years I get these random player thoughts and sometimes they come true. Would this be crazy? (me saying this probably guarantees they grab a QB in the 1st round!)

You can tell these guys have great respect for each other. Made for a great interview.

Was impressed with how candid Aaron was. He said he knew before the season it was his last, and just didn’t have it in him to do another offseason, another training camp, etc. And he felt like if he came back he’d just be doing it for a check and he wouldn’t want to cheat the game like that. Also admitted there’s a chance that he could start missing it like hell once the season starts. But sounds like he’s already got his hands in several projects, maybe even acting classes.

Puka and Cooper

Saw a couple things today. I read where Puka said he has been training with Kupp this off-season and Coop is looking to go on a revenge tour this coming year. That would be nothing but great for the Rams to have these 2 monsters alternate burning teams right and left. I am currently watching Total Access on NFL network and they just ran a highlight reel of Puka's year, just fucking wow. If these 2 stay healthy with an improved interior offensive line running the ball and setting up play action the Rams WILL go places this year. I have never been more optimistic despite losing AD and I see a division crown, NFC Championship, and a beatdown of whoever the hell the AFC sends to meet their demise. Long winded for a simple question, will Puka and Kupp be the best WR duo in the NFL this year?

For those of us who know we're not draft geeks.....

....who in the hell is the best pick for the Rams? A lot of Rams fans believe defense is the way to go. I'm conflicted. On one hand, yeah, we need defensive help. On the other, we have McVay and I figure the more offensive weapons he has to play with, the better our chances to succeed. But in the end, I think that early pick be it #19 higher or lower, should be a defender. I've looked at four evaluators....Kiper, Yates, CBS and Draftbuzz (who I've taken a liking to).....and looked at the top 8 defenders on their BIG BOARDS. The good news is, with all that offensive talent in this draft, I don't think 8 defenders will be off the board if we sit pat at #19. And if these guys are accurate, we're gonna get a stud (in their eyes).

KIPER:
#10 Turner
#13 Latu
#15 Q. Mitchell
#19 Arnold
#20 Verse
#21 DeJean
#23 Wiggins
#24 Murphy

YATES:
#9 Arnold
#10 Turner
#11 Q. Mitchell
#15 Murphy
#16 Latu
#18 C. Robinson
#22 Verse
#23 DeJean

CBS:
#7 Turner
#9 Q. Mitchell
#11 Verse
#12 Arnold
#15 Murphy
#16 Latu
#22 C. Robinson
#23 Newton

Draft Buzz:
#10 Latu
#11 Verse
#12 Newton
#14 Turner
#17 Murphy
#18 Arnold
#19 Q. Mitchell
#20 Wiggins

I see 6 guys who are on all four lists. Latu, Verse, Turner, Mitchell, Murphy and Arnold. The question is, are 13 offensive guys going off the board before the Rams pick? Seems chances of that are predicted to be pretty good. 4 QBs, 3 WRs, 3 LTs, a TE. That's 11. We only need a couple of teams to cause a WR run or a LT run and we'll have at least 1 of those 6 defenders on the board when we pick. But even if only 11 picks are on the offensive side of the ball, that means one of those 6....or Newton....or DeJean will be there. So I'm confident, if we really do go defense, we're going to get a stud. That eases my mind.....with the only worry coming from the fact, Snead likes to trade down.

Teams on the rise… On the fall

We still have the draft, another round of free agency, and a summer of injuries to shake things up… but there are already power shifts happening.

The Falcons, having signed Kirk Cousins… do they nudge Tampa out?

The Jets with Rodgers and their run on free agents… do they nudge someone out?

The Browns and the Eagles feel like unstable teams to me.

What do you see shaping up?

Mock of integrity (meaning my one and only)

Rams get lucky with a run on Tackles early and Dallas wants to trade up for their guy. This also leaves a number of players on the board at 19 that the Rams like, giving them the confidence to trade down.

Rams get 24 and 87 for 19 and 155.

24. Johnny Newton —DT

Rams fans celebrate the extra draft capital for about a day until McVay pisses off half the board by moving up for his new toy.

Giants only have 6 picks and move down a few slots in the second round for the extra selection.

Rams get 47, 107 and 183 for 52, 99, 154 and 209.

47. Xavier Legette-WR
*don’t think he makes it past the Giants, Jags, Bengals, Eagles and Steelers to pick 53. Fans (some anyway)are not thrilled because he won’t play a whole lot this year until second half but he can play that X position and has kick return ability. Also red flag that he only has the one year of solid production in college.

83. Marshawn Kneeland-Edge
Just the top guy that fell really.
87. McKinley Jackson-DT
*More of a nose tackle in my poor man’s scouting opinion.
107. Jaylan Ford -LB
*Rams have met with him this offseason. A bit of a reach but I feel like that every year(most thought Kobie Turner was a reach)
183. Hoping a guy that can be our backup center and guard depth falls here. Beaux Limmer or Tannor Bartolini. If not then the same thought at the tackle position and a guy like Matt Goncalves.
196. Jaylen Harrell-Edge
*Rams have met with him this offseason. I also like Xavier Thomas here.
213. Kimani Vidal -RB
Maurice Jones-Drew comp but hasn’t knocked out his girlfriend in an elevator yet (to my knowledge anyway)
217. Tip Reiman- TE
I just want to watch McVay’s offense with a Tight end that is 271 lbs and surprisingly athletic with good hands.
254. Qwan’tez Stiggers-CB
Players who have this level of athletic ability are not often available at this point in the draft.

Just replaced the battery in my crystal ball and here’s what it’s now showing me…

Rams are done with large FA acquisitions now. Focus is on finishing roster starters plus depth via draft. Might be 2nd or 3rd tier FA post-draft signings on anything missed.

Rams are confident about their options at Edge, DL, future starting CB, and acquiring a stud WR in draft by Day 2. All of their offseason moves make that abundantly clear.

Do not be surprised if Rams grab a QB or LOT early. I think that they’re planning for long term, too, not just for 2024 SB window. Not predicting it or advocating for it, just saying don’t be surprised if they do.

Snead may already have contingent trades in place to go either up or down on Day 1 and Day 2. I would be surprised if he didn’t. Everything is on the table, so be prepared.

Depth will be added on both sides of the ball beyond those 4 positions mentioned above. Lots and lots of depth/developmental players. Might be players that most of us have never heard of, just like in 2023.

Pundits will likely be unimpressed with some of Snead’s picks (again), but I predict that he and his scouts will pluck some gems once again out of rounds 5-7 and UDFA’s and prove once again that he knows more about this than the pundits.

A kicker will be drafted, probably late.

Rams assistant coaches will have this new rookie crop up and running before anyone expects. The importance of this can’t be overstated. It’s been a Ram secret weapon since McVay arrived.

Gonna be tough for the players to make the 53 this year, much less be a starter. Obviously, that’s a good thing and proof of a good roster.

This 2024 Ram O is gonna be a beast at both running and passing the ball. I don’t envy opposing DC’s at all.

Rams D will be surprisingly effective. Top 8 or so, statistically. But more importantly, it will be SB worthy by last third of season, if not before. An amazing thing considering AD’s retirement.

If Blackburn can fix his various ST units, I see a Ram team with no more glaring holes in 2024, and therefore a legit SB contender.

I see Rams at least splitting with 49ers and maybe even sweeping them if this new OL plays as well as I expect.

What do y’all think?
