Is David Olajiga the strongest player in the NFL the first day of the 2024 season?

Mr. Olajiga is a beast. He is #68 on defense in the clip.

Short version of the clips - he throws 270 - 310? lb guys around easily.

One of the Rams UDFA from Central Missouri ?

Former UCM All-American DT David Olajiga opened some eyes with his performance @ the Mizzou Football NFL Pro Day when he displayed a rare combination of size & explosiveness

Compared to DL weighing 310+ pounds at the #NFL Combine David’s marks rank;

-vertical jump = #1 (3.5” higher than #2)
-forty yard dash = #1 (.04 faster than #2)
-bench press = #2

…and he’d hit 38 reps during prep phase, if not for the fatigue from the condensed pro day schedule he likely holds the #1 mark there as well for the

20 Random Post 2024 Draft Thoughts

1. The Rams have a better roster than they did four days ago.

2. I feel good about how my Rams draft board worked out. The Rams’ top three selections were all among my Top 50 prospects for the Rams.

3. Jared Verse was the No. 7 guy on my board, and the top defender. When the Rams selected him, he was the No. 1 guy remaining. I, quite frankly, did not expect him to last to pick No. 19. I think he did because of two factors: (1) the confidence of (at least some) teams in Laiatu Latu’s medical record, and, of course, (2) the early run on QBs. Verse is a great scheme fit, fills the consensus top need, and is a “baller.” What’s not to like?

4. Braden Fiske was the No. 28 guy on my board, and was the No. 6 remaining player when the Rams selected him. You have to love the notion of Fiske playing with Verse again. More importantly, the Rams’ DL/EDGE corps. is stacked with young, hungry, high-effort players who will all be on rookie deals for at least 3 years.

5. Blake Corum was the No. 41 guy on my board, and No. 3 remaining when selected. He is a guy I’ve had my eye on for years. Full disclosure, my son is a Michigan alum, so I watched a lot of Wolverine football over the last few years. That factor aside, as many have noted, he and Kyren Williams are extremely interchangeable, which is a key in McVay’s offense. Players who telegraph play selection when they’re on the field due to limited or highly-specific skill sets don’t fare well in our offense. Corum will fit in right away and give the Rams a great 1-2 punch.

6. The themes of the rest of the draft, for me, were (1) guys who fit from an attitude/effort/toughness standpoint (aka “ballers”), and (2) filling key needs.

7. Kamren Kinchens, Brennan Jackson, Tyler Davis and Jordan Whittington are straight-up “ballers.” They also will help provide the Rams something they really lacked last year: depth.

8. Joshua Karty fills a huge need. Like many here, I had him as my top PK prospect. He’s a cool customer and has plenty of leg. Hopefully, he’ll have a long career with the Rams.

9. At the end of the draft, the Rams filled a need many identified in getting a back-up center in Beaux Limmer, and added more depth with KT Leveston.

10. While my board was pretty solid, the Rams also told me I was wrong about a few things.

11. I was wrong about the Rams’ level of faith in their LTs. While I don’t think they are looking past this year yet, for now it seems that A.J. Jackson and Joe Noteboom are deemed sufficient.

12. I was wrong about the Rams prioritizing WR depth. Given the number of players on the final year of their contract, it will likely be something we’ll be scouting in a year. Right now, though, our depth looks fine.

13. I was wrong about CB being a priority. My hope is that the Rams’ faith in Tre’Davious White’s health is well-placed. If it is, we are, again, set for this year. If not (or, ever if we’re just a bit unsure), I still think an Ahkello Witherspoon reunion (1 year deal) makes sense.

14. I was wrong about the Rams targeting an ILB. I guess that, with the way the defense rotates, Ernest Jones, Christian Rozeboom and Troy Reeder is enough.

15. How did our NFC West rivals do? Arizona improved their roster, but… how could they not, given the number of premium picks they possessed? I still think they have a lot of holes, and I’m not sold on their QB by any means.

16. The Seahawks added a very good piece on their defense in Byron Murphy, but that’s about it. Nobody else in their draft class really jumps out at me.

17. The 49ers, I felt, reached a bit. I like Ricky Pearsall, but I think he was more of a Day 2 prospect. In the end, he may be a replacement, as there are still rumors that Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel could be traded. After that first pick, I really feel like they went too far in the “need” direction and took several players earlier than most projected.

18. In all, I feel like we’ve upgraded our RB, OL and DB corps from last year and, while Aaron Donald’s absence is huge, we have much greater quality depth at DL/EDGE than we had. I’m also optimistic that, with more depth and a better PK, we’ll have a much better special teams unit.

19. A partial list of the veterans who will have an uphill battle to make the squad: Ben Skowronek, Zach Evans, Logan Bruss, Larrell Murchison, Desjuan Johnson, Michael Hoecht, Nick Hampton, Keir Thomas and Derion Kendrick.

20. I have a good feeling about this upcoming season. If this draft class is even close to being as successful as last year’s, the sky’s the limit.

The McVay Tree

Something I stumbled on while poking around the interwebz.

During his time as head coach, four assistant coaches, (Zac Taylor, Matt LaFleur, Kevin O'Connell, and Brandon Staley) on his coaching staff were hired as head coaches across the league. His coaching tree has combined for a record of 137-109-1 in the regular season and 8-8 in the playoffs during their fifteen seasons as head coach after serving on his coaching staffs.

Hemorrhoids!

Yeah, a fun topic for sure!

Anybody get the hemorrhoidectomy surgery ti get rid of the damn thing?

I've had symptoms for 4 weeks now and the damn thing just won't heal. It's the external kind, so can't do the minor procedures like rubber band ligation, etc. Sounds like my only options are surgery or wait it out.

Tried doing all the right things-- plenty of fiber and water, taking sitz baths, not straining, avoiding sitting, etc. Have tried hydrocortisone and witch hazel and lidocaine... slight comfort but doesn't seem to heal it.

What a literal pain in the ass. Gonna try to consult with a surgeon soon.

Wondering if anyone has a success story-- or a horror story-- to share. Advice welcome, though it seems like I've tried everything.

Netflix Narcos - History and current state of the World

Just watching the third season of Narcos Mexico and wanted to know if any of you have watched all the seasons and/or any input from your life that has rubbed alongside these story lines.

I’m a huge history buff and it’s curious to see how things started out from how I know them now and with some of these guys portrayed in the series getting out of prison in recent years.

I spend alot of my time in South and Central America now and see that connections that are there to this day.

From staying in Miami a few weeks this month and knowing drug money basically built that metropolis that it is now.

No veo ninguna oportunidad en ROD para hablar español, nunca se saben las locuras que algunos han experimentado o de las que tienen conocimiento.

Im in the middle of launching multiple multi national companies and it amazes me how these ‘farmers and uneducated’ created Billion dollar empires back in the 80’s and 90’s and their roots and seeds that are all around us today.

Anyone have any stories or experiences by chance or seen the series and have thoughts on it?

Great draft hope these guys pan out like last year if so...

We will be on our way to having a perennial playoff bound team.

Last year we hit massively on 4-5 picks depending on what you think of the punter. 2 picks were basically runner up to rookie of the year and an argument could be made they should have won it especially Turner.

The draft was well thought out addressed the defense minus an upgrade at a sideline to sideline ILB to pair with Jones. But you can't have everything.

Let's see how it pans out but I must say I really love pairing Verse and Fiske together really smart.

Look at this roster...

QB - Stafford/Jimmy/Bennett
RB - Kyren/Corum/Rivers/Evans
WR - Kupp/Puka/Robinson/Tutu/Show/Whittington
TE - Higbee/Parkinson/Allen/Long
OL - Jackson/Jackson/Avila/Dotson/Hav/Noteboom/McClendon/Limmer/Leveston

DL - Turner/Brown/Fiske/Johnson/Davis/Murchison
Edge - Verse/Young/Hoecht/Jackson/Mathis/Hampton
LB - Jones/Rozeboom/Hummel
CB - Williams/White/Lake/Durant/Kendrick/THT
S - Curl/Kinchens/Yeast/Taylor

Not counting the specialists or any undrafted players - so in other words, only guys that were on the team last year, FA signings or drafted this year. And we have one too many.

This team is now DEEP. We are going to the fucking Super Bowl

Nick Hampton’s best position?

I hope this thread inspires some full throttle debate or better leaves some blood on the floor :)

Let us return to a long standing argument between us…

Looking at the numbers, in terms of the Edge defenders now on the squad, set against his rookie year (when he looked more like a safety out there), does he need to transition to ILB to make the team?

I am not saying he definitely can but is it that or get cut?

I did not see him show up on special teams and if they were high on him as an edge why double down in this draft?

Ochaun and Brenden both have the jump on him and I don’t see that changing unless he comes in looking like a rocked up Joey Porter which I doubt he has the body for

Offensive Line Depth As It Stands.

I know, I know, you have the Big (literally) Five. Alaric Jackson, Jonah Jackson, Steve Avila, Kevin Dotson, and Rob Havenstein.

This is not the thread to talk about them.

Instead, let's discuss depth. It's fucking insane how much depth we've accumulated thus far.

Noteboom is our swing tackle, obviously. That much shouldn't be denied. We know what he is at this point.

Warren McClendon is a potential right tackle whom, I feel, will be Havenstein's eventual successor. I will stick with that prediction. He has a lot of the same traits as Big Rob, winning with technique and leverage more than raw strength. They saw something in him last year to take him before Davis Allen and Puka Nacua. Right now, he's our backup right tackle/guard.

Beaux Limmer. Oh my fate, how did he last this long? Country strong, technical, smart, more athletic than given credit for. He's going to at least be a long-term backup, if not an eventual starter once Dotson/Jonah Jackson move on from their three-year deals.

KT Leveston. Big, strong, smart, technical. I think Ryan Wendell has a type. Maybe not athletic enough to be a left tackle, but Leveston is certainly a capable backup.

Zachary Thomas. He may be the most interesting offensive lineman. I don't think he's a starter at all, but I believe he can legitimately back up all five positions, and that has value in this era.

Logan Bruss. This is his last chance to show out, and I don't think he's safe...but he was a third-round pick for a reason. Hopefully, he can compete another year removed from his injury (which I think was the real reason he hasn't shown out), but...well, we'll see.

A.J. Arcuri. Big, technical right tackle/guard type. His job is in danger because of McClendon and Leveston, who do basically the same things, but better. Still good depth and possible practice squad, but the clock's ticking with him.

Mike McAllister. Definitely more of a center type. He'll have to learn guard on the fly, but we kept him on the roster for a reason. Practice squad seems likely.

Grant Miller. Not sure about him. Pure guard, it looks like. Don't see much of a future with him.

Blake Larson. Interesting tackle from a smaller school. Possibly developmental. Has the tools. Practice squad, possibly?

Justin Dedich. Center/guard type. Stronger than he looks, but still undersized. Don't see it with him, but I've been surprised before.

Other free agents ought to be interesting, but I think we have incredible depth. It really is going to be a privilege to see who gets where.

Kneejerk Central: Grade the Draft

:helmet: Pick Efficiency: C

They grossly overpaid to move up and get a guy they fell in love with in Fiske. Cue "I fooled around and fell in love" video.

But they also managed to hit a shit ton of need positions. After this draft there are few needs left, the biggest being LT which is two deep for this season, and CB which does have a lot of potential "if's" lined up that may hit for them. Well and TE.

:helmet: Pick Quality: A-

This was not a freak show type draft with uber ceiling types.

Verse & Fiske are blue fuckin collar as it gets. Physicality was more of a theme than anything else, particularly for the defensive front. If you wondered what the mentality of our new DC is going to be... Look no further than the players they prioritized. Two high floor starters who have some upside still. Then Jackson and Davis to round out a very strong and physical rotation. The defensive front badly needed this draft to survive this division.

Safety I have some concern that he didn't do all the combine stuff. I don't think he's a plug and play guy. I'm not certain about him. But he is a ballhawk and we needed that in our secondary. He is fluid and natural in tracking the ball. Get him coached up and ready and playing within the scheme and with Curl also added as FA the safety position is probably our most improved on the roster.

Corum fills a backup role while also pressing Williams. Both backs are big time competitors and will respond to the challenge which is great for our run game. Every season it seems we suffer an injury at some point and are left with a steaming pile of excrement in the backfield. Not this season. Corum is a stud. Might even be too much RB for what we needed (they could have waited to address it) but I am not gonna complain. And I like that the run game is a priority.

Rams didn't fuck around with Kicker in taking Karty. Solid as hell. Hopefully no more drama on that front.

And then all three of those late rounders look like they have a chance to win depth roles. Maybe Whittington can unfuck our return game. Or maybe we find a returner among the UDFAs.

:helmet: Overall: B

I think this was precisely the type of draft they needed. Fill a ton of holes on defense and in that front. Find a kicker. Ensure that RB doesn't fuck us over this season with injury. If we are a playoff team this year then we're gonna need to use a 2025 future pick to move up to get an LT most likely but that's a problem for next year. This roster looks a ton better and I think the boys really outdid themselves once again.

Not all Snead & McVay's drafts have been great. Many have been subpar IMO. This staff has just done a great job of overcoming that. But last year's draft was insane given where the picks were. And this one feels like an extension of that. If so then this team will be right in the mix vs the best teams in the playoffs.

Time flies.

Won’t be long until the 2025 draft is upon us.

Yes, a year is a long time in football and anything can happen. But I think that we have certain experienced players who will need to be replaced over the next year or two.

And I am fully aware that certain posters think that next year’s draft class is not particularly good. But every team in the league will have to face that problem.

I would hope that we have solidified the trenches for the next few years, but not everyone will agree. Which positions do you all think we should aim for in next year’s draft?
