terrible spot

Luckily it didn’t cost us but on the games final drive, it was 2nd 8, and Gurley cut back across the field and looked like he got the first down. But the spot was absolutely awful. It was a full yard off, maybe more. It looked like he landed right at the line to gain. I know McVay woulda challenged but we didn’t have a timeout. But that was one of serveral calls that did t go our way. Team showed grit overcoming all of it.

That hit on Cooks

It's unbelievable that the league is so hell-bent on protecting players but yet there was no call on the hit on Cooks. It was a clear call I don't understand how they didnt see that.

Isn't a personal foul like that in a enjectable foul spearing? Hope McVey sends a tape to the League of today's game. Terribly reffed

Offensive line holding

I think it's pretty clear at this point that the league has given the green light to holding in order to keep the QBs safe. It's easy to see on every game I've watched, not just our Rams.
Sneaky move, I wish they would just change the rule out in the open instead of making you guess what's going to be called. If they aren't going to call the chokeholds and everything else it's really going to change the game for the worse. It will especially effect our team.
That chokehold on Donald on the bomb during the Seahakws final drive was so out in the open and so ridiculous that there is no way they just missed it.

The Chargers experiment in LA is only getting worse.LOL

WHY is it these idiot NFL owners never listen to to the experts? The experts all said this would happen, that it was a bad idea, heck I MYSELF said this would happen.Did not take a genius to see it would.Spanos did not get it that because he gave his FANS the middle finger in SD,they returned the favor and gave him the middle finger as well not driving down there they hate him so much.

Like the fool he is,he not only thought they would continue to support him but that he would gain a fanbase in LA as well He also did not get it that NOBODY in LA gives a crap about the chargers. He was too stupid to understand that LA is only a ONE TEAM NFL market.two teams have NEVER worked.

He failed to understand that LA will not support two teams in the NFL as they do in new york with the jets and Giants because in NY they got nothing better to do during the winter time but to watch football so thats why it works in New York and LA ALREADY has USC,UCLA AND the Rams who have the long history in LA which is why our Rams DO work in LA.

Dean Spanos has disgraced and embarrassed the NFL with this move. That is why I honestly think by the time he moves into Inglewood and sees all those empty seats in that half stadium ghost town,he will have no choice to sell the team and hopefully the new owner will be smart enough to move them back. Spanos knows he cant move them back since he has burned his bridges with the fans there so that wont happen.

These guys in this video nailed it.

I think that will happen as well when he goes into Inglewood.LOL I am so proud of the san diego residents for doing the right thing and not making the drive up to carson to watch those games. This is sending a message to the NFL the fans are sick and tired of them screwing with us moving franchises all the time putting shiny brand new stadiums ahead of history and tradition.

The Rams are the ONLY move of the THREE between them,.the chargers and the raiders that is justified and makes sense because of their long history there. The Chargers and Raiders moving is embarrassing the NFL. The Raiders will have the same exact problem in Vegas the chargers are in LA with it being mostly the opposing teams that show up.

are you sure this game is NOT being played in kansas city?:rolllaugh:

Where are Chargers fans?

WHERE INDEED?:rolllaugh:

He really needs to give up his childish fight for LA slogan,he LOST along time ago, there was NEVER A fight for LA.nobody wants you in LA dean,go back to san diego.

SNF: Cowboys at Texans

Sunday Night Football: Dallas Cowboys vs. Houston Texans

Coming into Week 4, the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans had a 1-5 combined record. That lone win came from a 20-13 home victory for the Cowboys over the New York Giants back in Week 2. Otherwise, it had been a disastrous start to the 2018 season for both teams.

Newfound hope came in Week 4, however. First, it was the Cowboys pulling off an impressive two-minute drill in the fourth quarter to beat the Lions 26-24. The 38-yard field goal from Brett Maher as time expired served as an opportunity to right a previously sinking ship.

The Texans walked away victorious after a different set of circumstances, which included a poor decision by the Colts to go for it in overtime on 4th-and-four with the game tied at 34. That opened the door for second-year quarterback Deshaun Watson, who completed a 24-yard pass to DeAndre Hopkins on the very next play. The result was a game-winning, 37-yard field goal by Ka’imi Fairbairn as time expired.

With the two teams from Texas set to face off on Sunday night, it’s only going to be possible for one of them to retain momentum once Week 5 comes to a close. So, which team will be it be?

Kickoff: Sunday, Oct. 7 at 8:20 p.m. ET
TV: NBC
Spread: Dallas -3

Three Things to Watch

1. Houston’s dominant trio of wide receivers

The Texans already had one of the better 1-2 punches at wide receiver in the league. DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller have already brought in 47 receptions for 706 yards and five touchdowns in only four games.

Now, it looks like there’s a third receiver ready to contribute consistently to the team’s high-powered passing attack. In his debut, rookie Keke Coutee was targeted early and often. In fact, his 15 targets were tied for the most in Week 4. The even better news is the Texas Tech product brought in 11 of them for 109 yards.

There’s still some concern that Hopkins won’t suit up due to a hamstring injury. Either way, expect Houston’s receivers to put a lot of pressure on a Dallas secondary that allowed Detroit’s receivers to combine for 15 receptions for 262 yards and two touchdowns last week.

2. DeMarcus Lawrence vs. Houston’s offensive tackles

Lawrence has quietly emerged as one of the NFL’s top edge rushers. The 26-year-old defensive end posted 58 tackles and 14.5 sacks in 2017. To some people’s surprise, he’s looked even better in 2018.

Lawrence already has 21 tackles and 5.5 sacks in only four games. If he can keep that pace up, he’ll shatter last year’s career high in both categories.

Sunday night should allow him the opportunity to build on those numbers. Houston’s offensive line has struggled to keep Deshaun Watson adequately protected this season. In four games, they’ve given up 17 sacks, which is the second most in the NFL behind the Buffalo Bills (21).

3. David Irving’s return from suspension

There’s only one player for Dallas that’s had as much of an impact getting after opposing quarterbacks as DeMarcus Lawrence. In only eight games last season, Irving racked up seven sacks. That ranked the defensive tackle near the top in the NFL in sacks per game.

The problem lies with Irving coming off his second four-game suspension in as many seasons for violating an NFL policy. In 2017, it was for performance-enhancing drugs. This season, it was due to violating the substance abuse policy.

It’s difficult to determine where he’s created the most headaches. Has it been for Dallas off the field or opposing offenses on it? Either way, his availability for Sunday night is going to mean more difficulty for Houston’s passing attack.

Final Analysis

The difference in this game could come down to the trenches. Houston’s inability to keep Deshaun Watson upright is going to be a real problem when facing one of the top pass rushes in the NFL (14 total sacks this season).

Combine that with the return of David Irving, it’s easy to see why Watson could find himself under a lot of pressure on Sunday night. If there’s a silver lining for Houston, it is Irving’s struggles against the run. To combat that, he’ll probably be relegated to a rotational role in passing situations, but it’s still something to monitor.

The Cowboys’ two victories have both come at home (Giants and Lions) while both losses (Panthers and Seahawks) have been away from AT&T Stadium. That difference in splits is significant, but it’s still a small sample size. Going across the state to Houston isn’t the same thing as going to Carolina or Seattle.

If DeAndre Hopkins can suit up, the Texans will have a good chance of keeping this game close. With that said, Dallas is showing signs of turning its season around.

Prediction: Cowboys 26, Texans 20

Rams at Seahawks - Week 5

IT’S GAME DAY!

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember our core principles; we always show respect for our team and each other.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad.

Go Rams!

Let's Rate the Rams Pass Rush Against the Seahags.

What little controversy the 4-0 Rams have had has been the lack of sacks from the defensive line early in the season despite the four sacks against the Vikings last week. The Rams rank number one in pressure percentage from PFF but, is that enough. Has the lack of pass rush from the edge allowed quarterbacks to avoid the pressure pass rush up the middle?

I thought it would be interesting to have a thread rating the Rams pass rush against the Seahags. Whatever observation you see. Individual and group ratings. Interior and edge pressure. Early, middle and late game pressure. How the pressure is disrupting Wilson and the Hags offense.

Special consideration to the run defense should also be noted. You can't ignore the run to get pressure on the quarterback.

Best of the Rams WR?

For realistic purposes it's too early to make any final conclusions... Brandon Cooks has a more productive history.

However who is the best in this offense?

Cooks - the fastest of the 3... the deep threat. However he has shown to be reliable on many different routes and has shown some solid hands.

Woods - Gets popped and still makes the catch. Has shown ability to get vertical as well (94 yarder last year).

Kupp - Strong and hard to tackle, the best RAC threat of the 3. Sometimes will drop easy balls.

I love them all, and there isn't a great disparity among them.

I'd say at this moment however in my mind Woods is the most consistent performer.

Rams most watchable team in the NFL

The Eight Biggest Takeaways From a Quarter-Season of NFL Watchability
The first four weeks of the year have generated many surprises on the field—and on our televisions. From the Rams’ dominance to the Eagles’ stumbles, here’s what we’ve learned so far.
By Riley McAtee

At the quarter-mark of the NFL season, the league consists of a near-perfect balance of knowns and unknowns. We’ve seen enough football to confirm that the Rams are one of the league’s best teams, the Chiefs offense is on fire, and the Cardinals and Bills will be the top contenders for the first pick in the 2019 draft. But beyond that, plenty of questions remain: Are the Eagles really in trouble? Are the Bears a true NFC contender? Are the Steelers really toast?

In all that noise, it can be hard to figure out which games to watch on any given Sunday. That’s where The Ringer’s watchability rankings come in. With four weeks in the books, this index—which uses six different statistics to identify the NFL’s most watchable teams—is becoming more reliable in determining which teams are fun and which teams aren’t.

We started the season using 2017’s numbers and have been filtering in 2018’s as the year has gone along. So now, at the quarter mark, let’s rip off the Band-Aid and look at the numbers without any weight from 2017. Here’s how the teams rank after four weeks (this week’s Thursday Night Football results aren’t included):

Rank: 1
Team: Los Angeles Rams
Total Score: 7.22

A Grand Total of Seven Punts in Four Games

Just checking out the stats and thought this was another great indication of the Rams offense hitting on all cylinders. Hekker is averaging only 1.75 punts a game. In 2015 he had 96 punts and in 2016 he had 98 punts. The 2016 average punt per game was 6.125. So in 4 games he has punted only one more time than he averaged in every game in 2016. The Rams offense has come a long way in a short time.

Press conference with Pete Carroll: "Slow them down"

“I really have enjoyed this process,” Carroll told reporters regarding the preparations for Sunday’s games. “I hope that we will play well. It’s out of respect for what they’ve done that they challenge us and trying to put together a plan that gives us something that will give us a chance to slow them down, nobody’s even slowed them down yet. We’ll see how it goes. They’re really loaded and they’re hitting on all cylinders. They’re healthy and everything else, so they’re as tough as you can get.”

“Without the fundamentals, there is no plan that’s any good,” Carroll said. “You have to play discipline run play up front and there’s no other way to do it. There’s no get tough and just growl and tackle them, it isn’t like that. You have to be strictly tied together, you’ve got to be disciplined and fit off of one another.

Then when you get there, you have to tackle and make your plays. [Todd] Gurley is a really good running back, he’s as good as you can find in football. It’s not just because he’s in a good offense, because he’s a hell of a player running with the ball in open field, running up inside, catching the ball out of the backfield — he’s just a great player. It’ll call for us to really tackle really well. You can’t do it just by being fired up, you have play well and then you got to finish the plays by getting him on the ground.”

As a bonus here's the Seahawk's DC Ken Norton Jr. Some believe it was him that came up with the infamous S.O.S.A.R. insult, others insist it was Dana Stubblefield. The question is discussed in a 4-year old ROD thread in the link below.
