Dodgers at NY Yankees Weekend

This was going to be huge before Juan Soto left Thursday nights game early. It's still big though. Some are labeling this as a potential World Series preview but there's such a long way to go. Game 1 is a matchup that heavily favors the Dodgers. Yamamoto vs Poteet. If Soto can't go, that favors the Dodgers even more. However, I wonder if Soto hits the IL, The Martian (Jasson Dominguez) will be called up. IMO, game should slightly favor L.A.. Gavin Stone vs Nestor Cortes. The finale should be a gem. Tyler Glasnow vs Luis Gil. I sure hope this series doesn't disappoint.

B.Y on Jared Verse OTA progress (DaSilva)

Byron Young can already tell Jared Verse is 'going to be really special

When Jared Verse was drafted 19th overall by the Rams in April, he became their first pick in Round 1 since Jared Goff in 2016. Needless to say, expectations are high for the rookie pass rusher out of Florida State and fans can’t wait to see him on the field this season.

Verse is currently going through OTAs before training camp opens in July and he’s already impressing at least one of his teammates. Byron Young, a standout defender as a rookie last season, can see the potential Verse possesses.
Young told J.B. Long and Maurice Jones-Drew last week that Verse is “doing way better” than he was this time last year, raving about his professionalism and talent on the practice field.

“Watching him, the way he’s doing right now, doing way better than me last year,” Young said. “Coming through OTAs, he’s handling it like a pro so I can already see he’s going to be really special. That’s what I like about him.”

Young was asked to name a teammate who’s stood out in OTAs thus far and he immediately went back to Verse.

“I’m going to start with Jared Verse. No lie, if you’ve been here so far, he’s just handling it like a pro,” Young said. “His get-off is insane, rushing the passer, every day just showing up, listening, being accountable.
Me being a vet and him being younger, he’s listening. He’s just a guy that wants to learn. Every day I talk to him and that’s what I love about him. He’s a guy that’s hungry. He’s definitely hungry.”
Verse might only be a rookie, but he’s making his voice known in practice. Young says Verse is vocal on the field, which provides some extra juice for the defense – something he loves to see from the first-year edge rusher.

“I love it. I was telling coach about that the other day. He definitely brings the dog out of me,” Young said. “His aggression, his love for the game. Every day he comes out there, you’re going to hear him and that’s what we need. We need that spark, man. It’ll be some days, I feel like we’re starting slow but you will hear him and he will spark up the team. when they drafted him, I already knew he was like that, so I was just happy. I was like, I’ve got to come out of my shell more so he’s definitely going to have me do that.”

Young and Verse are projected to be the starting outside linebackers for the Rams this season, with Michael Hoecht also in the mix. Young and Verse bring an abundance of speed and power on the outside, especially with Young bulking up and adding 10 pounds of muscle to his frame this offseason.

The loss of Aaron Donald is immeasurable but the tandem of Young and Verse should pay dividends for Los Angeles in 2024.

We actually did it! I’m in Minny now!

We sold our house in FL and we’re in Minnesota!

Got a temp house for a few months that we will be in tomorrow while we look for our new home.

Doing it multi-generational! My mom is joining the wife and I, 3 adult kids and an “adopted” family member who’s a friend of the kids.

7 in all.

We’re all excited to both be out of FL (for umpteen reasons) and to start anew in the Minny metro area!

It’s been a 7 year journey and we finally did it!

Go Rams from the Land of 10,000 Lakes!

C.J Stroud on Matt Stafford (reported by Cameron DaSilva)

C.J. Stroud went on an emphatic rant about Matthew Stafford's greatness

Despite the fact that Matthew Stafford is one of the most productive quarterbacks in NFL history and now has a ring to show for it, some people still doubt how great he’s been over the course of his career with the Lions and Rams. C.J. Stroud is absolutely not one of those people.

He thinks incredibly highly of the Rams quarterback and defended his greatness while on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast recently. Stroud spoke emphatically about how good Stafford is, even saying at first that he might put him up there with Tom Brady “and them” before walking back that statement.
“Stafford, he’s another one. He might be up there with Brady and them,” Stroud said. “No, that’s crazy. That’s crazy. Let me go back. I’m a student of the game.

Stafford’s a dog. He’s a dog. You don’t understand. You’re saying that. That’s all I watch. I don’t watch nobody else. I watch Mahomes at times because Mahomes does some stuff that you can’t coach. Stafford, dog. He will beat you with the same thing every time. All that no-look stuff, I got that from (him). That’s one of my biggest – like, I’m a fan of his.”

Stroud obviously views Stafford as one of the best quarterbacks in the league, which isn’t exactly an outlandish statement to make. He was statistically one of the top passers in football last season despite missing a game and a half, and playing through multiple other injuries.

Stroud isn’t the first young quarterback to say he his got no-look passes from Stafford, either. For as much credit as Patrick Mahomes gets for those no-look throws, Stafford was making them long before Mahomes was even in the league.

Stroud continued the conversation about Stafford by saying he always looks for opportunities to either work out with him or just sit back and watch him.
“If I go to L.A., I’ll be trying to find bro. Like, we got the same trainers, I’ll be trying to go where they’re working out and just watch. He’s elite,” Stroud added.

He still wasn’t done there. Stroud made a bold claim that if Stafford was in the same situation that Aaron Rodgers was in with the Packers, he might’ve won three or four Super Bowls.
“Hold on, hold on,” Stroud said. “If you gave Matthew Stafford a chance like Aaron Rodgers had, I guarantee he might’ve had more rings, for sure. I’d say he’d have three, four. He’s tough as nails, bro.”
Stroud has only been in the league one year but it sounds like he’s been a fan of Stafford’s for a long time. It’s always good to hear the Rams QB getting his praise from fellow players around the NFL.

How Have 2nd Year Players Improved?

Please post any concrete information about last year's draft class.

From a recent interview with Byron Young, he reports that he has put on 10 pounds since last year and it looks like it's all muscle.

We have heard how Puka and Coop were working so hard in the offseason at Kupp's house, that Puka was fertilizing the bushes with his vomit. Puka has reportedly lost 10 + pounds since last year and is making his "cuts" more sharply, but will this affect his YAC and physicality?

I haven't heard anything else about the others yet, so please provide any info you might have on last year's Rooks!

Rams NT Bobby Brown III excited to rush the passer more in 2024

Rams NT Bobby Brown III excited to rush the passer more in 2024

Bobby Brown III is the biggest defender on the Rams’ roster. At 6-foot-4 and 324 pounds, Brown has the size NFL teams look for in a nose tackle.

In the last three years, he’s primarily been a two-down player who contributes as a run stopper. That’s an obvious role for him, and one he also held in college at Texas A&M. Given his size, the position he plays and the presence of Aaron Donald, he’s had limited opportunities to rush the passer.

That could change in 2024 now that Donald is retired and Kobie Turner could be moving to defensive tackle after playing a bunch of nose tackle last season. It’ll open the door for Brown to play more on third down and get after the quarterback, which he’s excited about – especially being in a contract year.

“I’ve been more of a run-stuff guy since I got to college, even though I had five sacks my last year,” Brown told Stu Jackson of TheRams.com. “Once I got here, I haven’t played a third down to rush the passer. So now it’s just a whole different world, being able to play my game going to a different world I haven’t played in awhile, but it’s fun.”

In his first two seasons with the Rams, Brown had no sacks in 19 total games. He had just one tackle for a loss and no hits on the quarterback. He improved significantly last season with 31 tackles, a half-sack and four tackles for a loss in 13 games. His PFF grade shot up to 72.0 last season after he had a grade of just 62.8 in 2022, recording 14 total stops after posting just three in his first two years.

With a clear path to playing time next to Turner and possibly Braden Fiske, Brown should continue to get better in his fourth NFL season.

• The Rams are exploring their options at Star/big nickel, a position that could feature a safety or cornerback. Defensive coordinator Chris Shula confirmed they are even considering a position change for third-year cornerback Derion Kendrick, who previously only played on the outside where obviously the Star/big nickel is an interior defensive back.

Stafford's 37 best throws from 2023 - Will he be better in 2024?

I'm not sure how the Jordan Love throws got in there and don't know how to get them out - sorry.
It's interesting to compare the 2 QBs though.
Love seems to throw to his primary (play called) WR often unless he's scrambling and making a throw off that.
I think few QBs (Stafford being one) have the ability to go through 1st, 2nd, 3rd read and make throws.

On many of the throws he does what he does maybe better than anyone in the league . . .
. . . look off a safety before throwing or just chop his feet, survey to his 2nd, 3rd, 4th option.

If we give him time and he remains healthy . . . watch out.

A lot of things are better on the offense which will help.

Various receivers obviously, but many sightings of . . . Tutu.
Say what we will about Tutu, the guy has real good hands.

Most likely 2024 playoff risers and fallers

Over the past several years, the rate at which teams return to the playoffs from year to year is about 50%. Last year, it was a bit higher, as 8/14 playoff teams from 2022 returned, with the Texans, Browns, Steelers, Lions, Rams and Packers replacing the Jaguars, Chargers, Bengals, Seahawks, Giants and Vikings as postseason participants.

Assuming this trend holds, which teams do you see as the most likely playoff risers and fallers?

Mine:

I could see the Dolphins and Browns dropping out in the AFC, with the Bengals returning, along with the Jets.

In the NFC, I think the Cowboys and Bucs are the most likely to drop out, with the Falcons and, possibly the Bears rising.

Of course, that's only 4 teams. Recent history says there will be more. Let's hope one of the fallers will be the 49ers!

Seen this clip today and it got me thinking about how amazing ED was when he was in Horns! Hearing Marcus Allen talk about him is pretty legit to.

I’ve seen some debates here and there on the forum but searched for a thread surprisingly didn’t find one.

So who is your GOAT Rams RB and why is it Blake Corum? :laugh2::sunglasses:

Rams have least athletic roster in NFL, per RAS

Not saying I put a lot of faith in some of the metrics used here, and we certainly have been a lot more successful than some of the "more athletic" teams out there. Interesting emphasis, though, on how we do things differently. Ending suggests special teams and defense would benefit by us adding more traditionally athletic players, but also neglects to look at where we have been drafting for several prior seasons.

Sporting news

The Los Angeles Rams don’t put a lot of stock in athletic testing numbers when targeting prospects in the draft. Instead, they focus on how a player performs on film and their game speed, which is captured by player-tracking data in games or at events like the Senior Bowl or the Combine, where Puka Nacua reached the fastest speed of any prospect in the gauntlet drill or Van Jefferson's GPS tracking at the Senior Bowl.

Their lower emphasis on athletic testing led them to select players such as Cooper Kupp in the third round and Nacua in the fifth last year. This year, they drafted Miami safety Kamren Kinchens in Round 3 despite his 4.65 in the 40.

Kent Lee Platte runs the Relative Athletic Score (RAS) testing database, an overall measurement of a player's athleticism based on weighted testing compared to thousands of peers.

Their 2024 draft class ranked 23rd among all teams in Relative Athletic Score, and their current roster ranks even lower than that compared to the rest of the league. According to Kent Lee Platte, the Rams’ RAS of 6.66 is the lowest in the NFL, significantly lower than the next-closest team (Raiders, 6.91).

The Rams have always beat to their own drum, but it is fascinating to see just how far they really lean away from the rest of the league. The Rams don't take chances on raw athletes in the draft, preferring to take more experienced and older players, and that can be a double-edged sword.

Platte notes that this is how the Rams have seemingly operated for decades, and that hasn't stopped them from being successful recently. However, it is important to note that most of their best players over that time (Aaron Donald, Robert Quinn, Jalen Ramsey, Von Miller) all scored 7.00s or higher in RAS testing. Even recent contributors like Steve Avila, Kobie Turner, Jared Verse, and Byron Young all tested higher, perhaps an indication of them potentially expanding their horizons in the draft.

I think this is one of their biggest issues, as it impacts every phase of the game, particularly on special teams and on defense (see Derion Kendrick's 4.6 40). In my opinion, the Rams have proven to be good enough coaches to take a chance on young, raw athletes instead. However, the Rams are wont to go their own way, and it certainly hasn't diminished their success under Sean McVay.

Darious Williams named the Rams' most underrated player for 2024

Darious Williams was viewed as an underrated member of the Los Angeles Rams’ secondary when Jalen Ramsey was also patrolling the defensive backfield at cornerback. Williams may not have been a household name during his first stint with the Rams, but he was still such an integral part of the defense.

Now he’s back and ready to pick up where he left off in Los Angeles. After being cut by the Jaguars this offseason, he has a lot to prove and will help lead a secondary that also features Tre’Davious White and Kamren Curl.

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire picked every team’s most underrated player heading into the 2024 season and Williams was his selection for the Rams.

Williams is built like a slot-only cornerback at 5-foot-9 and 187 pounds, but he’s been a great outside cornerback for years, and that was just as true in 2023, when he allowed 51 catches on 86 targets for 613 yards, 178 yards after the catch, two touchdowns, four interceptions, 18 pass breakups, and an opponent passer rating of 69.6. Through his NFL career, Williams has allowed 10 touchdowns to 11 interceptions, and has a lifetime opponent passer rating of 76.7. It’s safe to say that nobody expected that when he came out of college.
Williams is undersized but he excels as an outside cornerback, as Farrar mentioned. The Jaguars played him out of position at times in the last two seasons but now that he’s back in L.A., he should fit back in seamlessly at the boundary corner position opposite White.

The Rams gave him a $22.5 million contract this offseason so he didn’t exactly come cheap, but he should be a worthwhile addition to the defense.
