Good Times

Just wanted to share my appreciation for this forum, as well as all the other Rams forums, and for you all, as each week we have all shared insights and thoughts on our team, and watched them win week in and week out. For most of us who have been through the dark ages, these last two years have been a blast, and I think/hope we’ll have many more glorious years to come. That being said, let’s show the world today who really dat!

Will Aaron Donald

play like he wants to be known as a “legend” on the football field or just another very good player?

Let’s face it....Aaron Donald is the most talented football player on the field today-period. However, he hasn’t really shown up in the Rams biggest games over the past couple of years.

Growing up I saw a lot of game changing players and on the defensive side of the ball, 3 players always stood out to me. Lawrence Taylor, Deion Sanders and Ray Lewis. Obviously there are many great players but for me these 3 always stood out because as great as they were season to season they were even better when the stakes were higher.

The bigger the game the bigger the impact these 3 had, which led to huge success for their respective franchises.

Just like these three, Aaron is the most talented guy on the field. To me, these are the type games where you earn that aura of being a “legendary “ player. These are the games where Aaron needs to step up and make a huge impact on the defensive side of the ball to lead his team to victory.

Legendary players find a way to make an impact even when the other team is pulling out all the stops to stop them. I hope Aaron is up to the challenge today.

Go Rams!!

DeSean Jackson expresses interest in playing for the Rams

DeSean Jackson requested a trade from the Bucs, and despite having a year on his contract wants out of Tampa Bay. Arians claims that he sees Winston as the QB for the future in Tampa. Jackson played better with Fitzpatrick. The Bucs can release him with no cap hit.

So, should the Rams try to bring him back home to finish his career, and serve as a part time rotational receiver?

Or does he still have enough in the tank to want to start?

He had 41 receptions for 774 yards, so he is still a deep threat. But, he is 32.

AFC Championship: Patriots at Chiefs

AFC Championship: New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs

It’s hard to look at this year’s AFC Championship between the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs as anything other than a potential changing of the guard. Tom Brady, 41, will be eyeing an unprecedented ninth Super Bowl appearance; to do it, he’ll need to rise to the challenge of 23-year-old emerging superstar Patrick Mahomes. Perhaps the greatest ever to play the sport at his position will be pitted against the man who may define it for the next generation.

But the rivalry runs far deeper than just those two men. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is looking to erase his record of playoff futility by finally beating the game’s best on the other sideline in Bill Belichick. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce hopes to displace an aging, injury-prone Rob Gronkowski as the AFC’s best at the position. And despite the Patriots’ undefeated home record this season (9-0) it’s the Chiefs' fans at Arrowhead who have one last opportunity to prove what home-field advantage in the postseason is all about.

Their last matchup, a 43-40 Patriots victory in Foxborough, was easily one of the best in the NFL this season. Expect Sunday’s game to bring the same amount of offensive firepower and late-game drama with a berth in Super Bowl LIII on the line.

AFC Championship: New England at Kansas City

Kickoff: Sunday, Jan. 20 at 6:40 p.m. ET
TV: CBS
Spread: Chiefs -3

Three Things to Watch

1. Can Mahomes keep from making mistakes?

In this type of game, it’s fairly clear what you’ll get from the Patriots’ Tom Brady. A roller-coaster regular season was put to rest last week against the Chargers; 343 passing yards and no turnovers meant the outcome was never in doubt. The Chiefs can’t expect to capitalize on his mistakes although Brady did have a lost fumble in their matchup earlier this season.

The real focus is on whether Patrick Mahomes can keep it together. On paper, he had one of the best statistical seasons in history with 50 touchdowns and nearly 5,100 passing yards. He did nothing to cost his team in a cruise control-type performance against the Colts in Arrowhead last week.

But the Patriots in the playoffs are a different story altogether. The Chiefs were mortally wounded in their regular-season matchup through multiple mistakes by Mahomes early on. Two interceptions led to seven Patriots points and cost the Chiefs seven more at the end of the first half. It’s enough to make the difference in a game where we’ll count the number of punts on one hand.

“We didn’t feel good,” Mahomes said this week about the Patriots’ loss earlier this year. “We didn’t play our best, especially early in the game. And when you play teams of this caliber, with this much history of knowing how to win and capitalizing on people’s mistakes, you can’t come back and win games like that.”

“For us, we have to learn from that, know we can’t make those mistakes. It’s going to be a dogfight for the entire game.”

Can he outduel the Patriots' secondary this time? Philip Rivers never looked comfortable last week and New England's defensive unit heads in with momentum. The Patriots know how to create takeaways in the playoffs. It’s imperative Mahomes puts those demons behind them by striking early and often in the first half.

2. Can Sony Michel outduel Damien Williams?

You might be surprised to know all four of the Chiefs’ touchdowns last week came on the ground. After releasing Kareem Hunt last month, many felt their rushing game would struggle but Williams has proven up to the task. The fifth-year player has stepped in admirably, posting a higher yards per carry average than Hunt (5.1 to 4.6) and two 100-yard rushing efforts. (That included 129 yards against the Colts last week). Hunt, by comparison, had just one 100-yard rushing game this year despite his speed and explosiveness.

Is that more because of the Chiefs' offensive line or is it Williams himself? The answer is a little bit of both. But the Patriots' defense will offer a stiffer test than the Colts' front line. New England held Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon to just 15 rushing yards and the Chargers to 19 total. Ranked 11th against the run, allowing 112.3 rushing yards per game over the course of a full season that number drops to 65.0 when you include just the last three weeks.

Kansas City, meanwhile, has a rushing defense that ranked 27th in the NFL. It provides a make-or-break opportunity for rookie Sony Michel to put up some big numbers once again after a masterful 129-yard, three-touchdown performance last week. Michel, who lost part of his season due to injury, has been left in the shadows while other rookies like Baker Mayfield and Saquon Barkley have taken center stage. But they’re not playing this late into January. Michel might be the most important person on the field for a Patriots offense that finally appeared to loosen up with the chains constantly moving on the ground.

3. All Tyreek, all the time

Tyreek Hill was unhinged the last time these teams played. Seven catches, 142 yards and three touchdowns almost singlehandedly kept the Chiefs in the game. Last week’s postseason contest was a bit more pedestrian (eight catches, 72 yards) but a bounce-back performance should be expected.

Travis Kelce may be the Chiefs’ most reliable receiver but Hill is the one who can score at any given moment. The fastest player on the field can get more yards after the catch than anyone else in this game when given space and he’s already proved he can outrun the Patriots’ secondary.

This 75-yard touchdown play from the first matchup truly highlights the explosiveness of the Chiefs’ offense when both he and Mahomes are on the same page. It’s why the Patriots can’t fall behind in this game but the Chiefs will never feel like they’re out of it.

X-Factor: Kicking Game

Stephen Gostkowski is one of the game’s most reliable kickers. But a 27-for-32 season obscured the fact he was just six-for-11 on kicks over 40 yards in length.

During a year where long field goals have become the norm, not the exception, that may give the edge to another changing-of-the-guard figure: 23-year-old Harrison Butker. Butker was eight-for-11 on kicks 40 yards and longer while nailing a 54-yarder just a few weeks ago against Seattle. He also has the advantage of kicking within his own stadium during a night where the wind will make a difference (forecast to be 10-15 mph).

One miss from either kicker could be all that's needed to determine the outcome.

Final Analysis

Conventional wisdom says the Chiefs should come out on top in this one. It’s a youthful team playing at home and hungry for revenge after their national stub-a-toe moment against the Patriots earlier this year. Andy Reid, 1-4 in championship games is too good a head coach to get shut out of the Super Bowl with this team.

And yet. The Patriots, labeled as rare underdogs have embraced that mentality with a bear hug. Julian Edelman’s Twitter posted a hype video followed by T-Shirts fans could order with the hashtag #BETAGAINSTUS. It’s the type of us against the world mentality that plays well within a Bill Belichick locker room and the same type of emotional boost the Eagles used against them in Super Bowl LII (with great success, I might add).

Add in Tom Brady, who seems to be playing with a chip on his shoulder amid criticism his play has slipped at 41 and it’s hard to count the Patriots out. They need everything to break right for them to pull this out but we’ve seen that type before from them in the postseason, haven’t we?

NFC Championship: Rams at Saints

Game Day Thread

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember our core principles; we always show respect for our team and each other.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad.

Go Rams!

Please be advised moderators may issue “caution” post ratings to keep this thread on track. If you see this, don’t freak out; these are not warnings but meant to steerconversation away from warnings.

Our goal... watching a game is fun. So, let’s have fun in here.

What's on your menu? NFC Championship Menu GDT.

Simple here and not really changing it up much.

Hot wings
Chili
Lil Smokies
Cheese Dip
This time though, I'm doing some stuffed Poblano peppers..

Since we playing the Cajuns I've kicked up the heat in everything to exceed any of theirs.. Reapers and Jays Ghost active for sure. They can't top us.. Nor do they want to... lol

Most is done and in Crock pans waiting to be heated up until later today. Cheese dip left to do. That said, I'll try and get some pics up. These Poblano's are awesome. Oh yeah.. Over a case of Mich Ultra and some Tito for shots when we score. it's a 1.75 bottle so hopefully have enough. lol

Post your menu if you wish. I can give my recipes, but if I do you'll slap your mother and say.... damn that's too simple.. lol Peace my friends.

My Saturday morning....

...... was interesting.

I’ll start by giving the background story. Thursday night late I was lying in bed with my iPad viewing Rams stuff as I usually do. I went to the Rams.com looking for breaking news stuff like that. And I read that they were running raffle for championship game party gear. There were going to be multiple winners and I thought what the heck I’ll drop my name in, 18 minutes before the cutoff deadline.

Fast forward to Saturday morning, my wife and I were making breakfast but I heard something on the front porch so I walked over to the door and looked through the screen and saw a FedEx truck pulling away. I open the door and looked down and lo and behold I saw a package with the Rams logo on it and the NFC championship game logo as well. I was one of the winners of the raffle.

I got a Rams flag a couple of posters a tablecloth plates napkins multiple rally towels and some of the Rams beaded necklaceses. It was awesome I rarely win the raffle’s if ever. This Has to be a good sign for the game. Right!, GO RAMS!!!!

We will win tomorrow!!!

1. Marcus Peter's has something to prove.

2. We have virtually 0 injuries and the cohesion of the team is at elite level.

3. We have a doubled headed rushing attack consisting of a "butter ball of knives" in CJ and a thoroughbred horse in a revitalized and rested Gurely.

4. Our offensive line is the shiznit. (And this is basically LT AW home field, having won three high school and one college championship with Nick Saben while at LSU.)

5. Suh is motivated. He's already tasted the pain of losing in the Superdome during the playoffs when he was in Detroit and I'm a 100% sure he doesn't want to taste it again.

6. AD. He played disciplined against Dallas so there is no validity to this idea that's he's opening up holes for the opposing ball carrier. He's on a mission. Regular press is great. Success in the playoffs is the stuff of yellow jackets.

7. Talib. He makes the entire defense better. His presence on the field is undeniable. How many players can you say that about? A handful at best.

8. The team knows that they're being presented with the opportunity to go to the Dance. They aren't messing around. You saw the fast start they got off to against Dallas. They look nothing like the team that lost to Atlanta last year. They are firing on all cylinders.

9. Eli Apple can be beat on every bubble screen or deep comeback.

10. The interior of their defensive line has been decimated by injury. Oh and guess what, we excell at running the ball up the middle.

11. Wade Phillips will have a plan. I foresee stunts to get Brees to move up the pocket into an oncoming LB on a delayed blitz.

12. McGenius. Nuff said. Respect to Mr. Balls of Steel. What he did the other week, when he went for a TD instead of FG in that situation, has never been done in recorded history. And I don't think he's crazy.

:yay:

Strategy for tomorrow? (offense)

So how would you approach tomorrows game from an offensive standpoint? The Saints have one of the best run defenses, (2nd) but a more susceptible pass defense (29th).

Over the course of the last few games we have gone from being an aggressive passing offense to more of a physical run game team. The "safe" strategy would be to stay with this script, feeding the ball to Gurley and Anderson consistently, with the occasional play-action chunk plays, with shorter safe throws and screens. The issue with this plan is that it plays into the strength of the Saints D (though their all-pro d-tackle Rankins is out). It's also likely what the Saints expect us to do. I envision them stacking the box and trying to make us beat them over the top.

Or do we turn back to the team we were for the first 2/3 of the season? Come out with a vertical passing game and deep shots, to go with play-action. Much like we did in our 1st meeting when we scored 35 on them. The advantage of this approach is that it hits more where the Saints have weakness, and in my estimation it wouldn't be as expected. The risks is that you increase the likelyhood of sacks, or turnovers. So you may end up with a double digit lead early or have a dougle digit deficit quickly.

Of course how the Saints come out and scheme their defense will likely dictate which approach we see more. I'm interested to hear what other people think. I'm really now sure how we will play it tomorrow. It seems more likely that we stick with the ground and pound... but McVay isn't the type to be predictable.

I wouldn't be surprised tomorrow if we came out slinging it.

Is This Sacrilege?

Here's the deal. I kinda want the Cheatriots to end the Chefs tomorrow. I know, I know, that is straight up sacrilegious from a Rams fan. Especially one who lived through the 2001 season.

But hear me out.

There is something about Mahomes that just perturbs my man panties. I'm not sure it is kermits fault. It might just be all the talking heads continually fouling their beak on the fecal splitter of the KC QB. It's borderline odious at this point.

The fight for dominance between the media harlots is only rivaled by whatever is going on between Adam Gase's left and right eye. Dealing with Collinworth's "WOW" to Tessitore's "Show Time Mahome's" is legitimately making me a bit nauseous. That's at least 40% of why I want the cheats to win come Sunday.

Another 20% comes from growing up in STL. I loathe the Chefs dweebs. I had to deal with that penisy fan base for my first 25 orbits of the sun. I'm done with them. I personally want to lick the tears of sorrow and let down off of a few faces during my next visit home.

The other 40% you ask? Well let me edify you. I wan't the RAMS to be the Alpha and Omega of Tom Shady's career. That would make me spill my man milk about every inch of my dwelling. Knowing that we brought that ugg boot pedaling pretty boy's career to a start and an end would make me happy for the rest of eternity. I could die post SB and I wouldn't even fight it.

So what say you? Dilly Dilly or How could I?

Game Day jersey routine

For me, it starts the day before, where I hang it outside, facing the general direction of the opponent. So this morning it was facing east southeast.

On Game Day the jersey goes on in the morning and stays on until bedtime.

NEVER wash a jersey after a W.
ALWAYS wash a jersey after an L.

(yes, my Dodgers and Kings jerseys are both laundry clean--especially the Kings one :palm:)

I don't post much anymore......

Lately, I don't post much anymore on Rams message boards or forums. Most of you are wicked smart and don't need my two cents added to the pot .

I still read this forum everyday and I enjoy all of the different perceptions and opinions. (even the ones I don't concur with.)

Balance and none homer views are wise and well respected from my own point of view. If everyone of the so called NFL media experts and fans picked the Rams to win, It wouldn't have any merit imo.

I could end up being wrong because the NFL is never a sure thing no matter how much talent, momentum or how good a teams record is.

I'm as nervous and excited as anyone of you educated, intelligent, witty Rams fans are.

I hope I get to post on the celebration thread tomorrow. :yess:

I will try to keep up on these. It may not be daily and I will also probably be posting some trivia from the NFL as a whole. Good luck and have fun.

Note: These questions may change almost daily. I will lock them as soon as I post the answer and then unsticky them a day or so later.

OK so here is the deal. Years ago I found an LA Rams Trivia Game in a Goodwill. I pretty much bought it as a piece of memorabilia. Now with the Rams moving back, I thought it might make for a fun game for some of us old timers. Odd thing is that about 70% of the questions have nothing to do with the Rams.

So here is what I will do. I will post the questions that are Rams related and let you guys answer. I will then post the answers the next day. These are not easy questions as far as I can tell but maybe the memory function of my brain has been compromised.
.
spicoli385-jpg.11961

There is only basically one rule. No search engines or internet sites to look up answers that you will post later. I realize some will still look up the answers. I know I would if I didn't have the cards. But I want to see how many out there actually know the answers. So if you do feel like looking them up on the internet, feel free.

And if you know the answer, don't post it. Comment all you want.

Now - keep in mind. I said the internet is off limits. But if you have books, magazines, football cards, etc... feel free to use them. That may seem hypocritical but it's about time some of us got some use out of all that stuff we've bought over the years.

Cheers.

Do The Rams Want It More Than The Saints?

Let's face it. Both teams were 13-3 and had great years. The game they played in week 9 went down to the final few minutes before it was decided. This game is going to be like watching a Rocky movie with the two heavyweights going toe to toe.

But we have a bunch of players on the Rams who knew nothing but losing under Jeff Fisher and now have a new lease on their NFL lives under McVay. It seems as if the Rams have shed that mini "slump" we had in losing to the Bears and Eagles.

This game I believe will come down to who plays the best on Sunday. Do the Rams and their players like Donald, Brockers, Suh, Joyner, Barron, Goff, Gurley, Saffold, Whitworth, Havenstein, Higbee and a few others (Hekker and Zuerlein) want it more than the Saints?

If we control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, there's no reason the Rams can't win this game.

I trust McVay and Wade to come up with a game plan that can win us the game if the players get it done.

Do the players want it bad enough to impose their will on the Saints? I believe they can and will.

Bad Timing - Can’t Watch the Game

Why couldn’t our game be the late game? I work the weekends, and they prohibited the use of iPads while working. So no reddit, but we can listen to the radio???? :wtf:
The problem being its a suck ass radio with a horrible antenna. I have a couple radio apps, but they don’t broadcast the games on the internet??? If I can’t figure this out, I’m hiding my iPad near the radio and tuning in to reddit anyhow, joke em if they can’t take a freak!

Is there a way to listen to the game on the internet without getting DNA rifle blocked?

Saints report .com... not a forum you want to be apart of.

So why did I post this?

Simple. As most of you know, I enjoy going to the opposing teams' forums and chatting it up. Never have I once made a derogatory or verbal personal insult to anyone on any of these forums. As you can tell, the Mods over at this forum are not guys of integrity. Hence, "Jerk rule" (major) infraction ... :rolllaugh:

You have received a warning from the Staff... which is actually a ban.

Point is this: if any of you were intending to go join this board, don't waste your time at this particular one.
