Rams Cowboys Scrimmage 08/14/24

Made it out to the Rams scrimmage with the Cowboys today.
Recorded notes on my phone, was tough deciphering some of them as you'll see.

First off nothing serious with Stafford he practiced for about 2/3d's of the scrimmage then was hanging out on the sidelines shootin' the shit, still had his helmet on.

Most of my notes are on the defense, offense was on the far field and there's that giant billboard blocking the middle of the field.

Disappointed I didn't spot AD!

Verse was the Cowboy's offense worst nightmare today.

Karty made 100% of his kicks today, all from 30-50 yards out.

Jimmy G looked pretty good with the ones.

Bennett looked like he's bouncing back from the 4 picks.

Whittington continues to shine.

As does Tre'Davious White.

Overall the Rams Defense dominated the Cowboys Offense.

Got to the parking lot about 9:45 Gates opened about 10:15.
Parking was 10 bucks scrimmage was free unless you paid 20 dollars to stand at the fence behind the sidelines.

Not much of a crowd so had no problem with parking or getting a seat. Sat in the back row of the bleachers up high hoping to get a view of both fields.
Rams Players coming out to the field about 10:30 mostly staying on the far field. I see Steve Avila and some of the O Line coming closer to the bleachers.

Bones Fossil is out doing some stretching and talking to the crowd along the sideline in front of the bleachers, comments on a fan's Deacon Jones jersey. Fossil is a super nice guy, always taking the time to talk to the fans.

Eric Yarber walking laps around the field stops to catch up with Fossil.

New D Lineman Carlos Watkins wearing #69 same number as Kevin Dotson

D lineman the first group to start going through drills fist punches while alternating left foot right foot.

Jared Verse walking laps around the field just walked by.

Verse01.jpeg
Has his earbuds in and seems to be taking some time to get focused.

Just spotted Stafford an Bennett walking down to the shade of the far field in the back corner.

It is hot out here sitting on the metal bleachers in the direct sun just like at LMU but there is a breeze coming in from behind me.

Everyone is on the far field except for except for Karty, Evans and long snapper Ward. They're warming up right in front of us.

There's Shula also walking laps around the field.

Bennett and Winn playing 40 yard catch on the far field.

Karty practicing field goals with the tee and a planted foot, not running into it at all just standing on his plant foot and Kicking. Made them all from 30 yards out.

Cowboys players are starting to trickle.

Now Karty is doing his regular routine 3 1/2 steps back and two steps to the left.

Defensive line doing drills it was almost like martial arts, coach has the hand pads on and the defenders are doing jabs then swimming by.

Full kicking team (Karty, Evans, Ward) Karty kicking field goals between 30 and 50 yards, hitting them all.

All the Cowboys coming over to the close field to warm up, lucky me.
Dak comes running out on to the field and right over to Sean McVay and gives him a hug. Everyone loves McVay! Him and Dak are walking and talking now, Sean gives Dak a pat on the helmet and he takes off.

First Cooper Kupp sighting, he comes running up to the D linemen and playfully smashes through the group.

BY and Verse hanging together again, with Hampton right behind them.

Everyone brakes up in to position groups to do drills.

Full offense running snaps against air. Stafford throws a dump off to Kyren Williams on the left-hand hand side.

Then out of the shotgun a quick out to Kupp on the right side.
Stafford play action roll out to his right and throw to Whittington on the right side.
Then passes to Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson, Colby Parkinson, then Nikola Kalinic is the first to drop one.

They’re getting ready to start scrimmaging. Looks like the Dallas offense up against the Rams defense on the close field, and the Rams Offense against the Cowpokes defense on the far field.

Starters on Defense you got Verse, Kobie Turner, Bobby Brown, Braden Fisk and Byron young up front, Rozeboom and Ernrst Jones in the middle (good to see Jones back out there) Kamren Curl, Durrant, Tre'Davious White, and Lake on the back end.
First play Dak hands off to Dowdle and he gets stopped at the line by Ernest Jones.

Far field Stafford in shotgun hits Parkinson for 5 on a quick out to the right.

Close field, False start on Cowboys Braden Fisk shooting into the backfield.

Dak back to pass, muddy pocket Rams converging Dak steps up in pocket to complete a 20 yard out to Ferguson down the right sideline.

Run up the middle Ingle make a big hit short gain.

On the Far field Stafford rolls out to the left after faking the handoff throws back right from the 50 yard line deep to Robinson overthrows him in the endzone.

Cooper Rush hands off to Malik Davis gets tackled in the backfield by Hoecht.

Dak drops back had lots of time but Kobie Turner up the middle flushes himm out of the pocket but good coverage by the back end nowhere to throw so Dak runs out of bounds for no gain.

Twos in with Trey Lance this looks like what we saw in the preseason game with these lineups. Handoff to Deuce Von gets clocked by Jaylen McCollough trying to run up the middle, knocked on his ass.

Dak hands off to Zeke trying to get through a hole but Braden Fisk gets into the backfield then catches Zeke from behind, he’s going nowhere.

Dak drops back to pass looks like he was going to go deep but the ball got blocked by Troy Reeder and popped up in the air and Christian Rozeboom drops an interception.

Roll out by Dak to the right throws to Tyron-Billy Johnson but batted down by Tra'Davious White, sticky coverage.

Dak throws deep down the right side light to Jalen Brooks, Tra'Davious white was with him step for step cuts him off to the ball. Incomplete.

Second false start I’ve seen on the far field with Jimmy G and the two's.

Next play Jimmy G throws a laser for about 25 yards to Hunter Long over the middle.

Horn blows for "TV timeout" two minutes.

Nice play by Byron Young pushing the right tackle back into Dak forcing him to roll out throws incomplete.

Uh oh! Jared Verse is down on the turf, looks hurt players gathering around...he's getting back up and walking off the field under his own power, puts his helmet back on, gets a drink, looks OK!

Starters are back in Dak rolls out wanted to throw out to the running back on the right side but Verse is right there in coverage, nice play, but Dak hit somebody down the field for 10 yards over the middle
Ernest Jones drops what should have been an interception, drops down and does pushups.

Dak hits Brandin Cooks for 10 yard even with Jerry Jacobs all over him.

Another fall start for cowboys that’s the fourth.

Stafford roll out to the right throws back to the left for Robinson 10 yards.

dead Tacketts Ferguson over the middle it’s two conditions and three was cardigan separation

Backdrops back pockets respect down the steps up and needs to the right just a heads up a cylon but is there a game today miss way

Byron young with a sack started to the outside then broke to the inside then right in Dak's face but stopped because of red jersey.

Another 2 minute "TV time out."
Now special teams practicing kick offs. Ethan Evans doing the kick offs for both teams. Cowboys in coverage Rams receiving. Blake Corum receives first kick off returns to about the 30. Next we got Tyler Johnson and Xavier Smith in the backfield, receiving is Smith contact about the 25.

On the Far field I could hear Jared Verse jawing at Cowboy's O Line as they're engaged in one on one pass rushing drills. On the right side of the far field the Rams D line against the Cowboys O line on the left side of the field at the Rams O line against the Cowboys D line.

Kick off to Xavier Smith who breaks it to the outside down the right sideline got to 50 yard line but may have taken it to the house.

Now the Cowboys are returning grams are in coverage

Far field, Rams Oline/ Cowboys Dline one on one pass rush drills. Limmer holding his own against Cowboys pass rusher. Limmer again, took his guy to the ground. Bruss does the same, took his guy to the ground. Wish I could see who exactly they were going up against.

TV Timeout #3

Back to 11 on 11 snack and half of 56 no game

Dak throws 30 yards down the left-hand side to Jalen Brooks, Tre'Davious White all over it, incomplete.

Cowboys run the same play this time Brooks had a step on White who grabs his jersey. Flag thrown. Tyron Billy Johnson is skipping off the field shouting "Can’t do that Can’t do that!"

Dak hands off to Dowdle, Bobby Brown meets him at the line of scrimmage. No gain.

Cowboys are in a fourth in one play, they got about 2 yards up the middle, Reeder and Terence Steele start getting into skirmish but it breaks up quickly.

On the far field Stetson Bennett getting some work hands off to Boston Scott had a nice run off tackle right look like he gets about 10-15. Another another nice run from Scott about 5 yards up the middle before any contact.

Bennett with a jet sweep handoff to Whittington around the left side looks like it would go for 10 yards at least.

Dak with a short pass on the right side on first down about 3 yards. Second down pass to left side to Cooks for 15 yards.

Next play Dak drops back, Verse blows by his guy on the right side for a sack and he’s letting everyone know about it, talking shit, clapping his hands, yelling it to the cowboy sidelines. I love it!

Dak throws a quick pass to Dowdle who just gets blasted by Byron Young at the line of scrimmage.

Trey Lance delayed handoff Troy Reeder meets RB in the backfield would’ve had a tackle for loss.

Another TV time out

Redzone now. Bobby Brown with a possible tackle for loss on the handoff on first down.

Good coverage by the backend Byron Young gets another sack.

Rams good coverage but not a good pass rush on the 5 yard line and Dak hits Cooks alone in the back of the endzone.

Dak with a bad hand off, Ball on the ground, Rams coming in, trouble baby.

On the far side looks like Stafford‘s done for the day because it’s been Jimmy G and Stetson Bennett alternating in Redzone.

Another bad snap or bad snap to Dak in shotgun this time, Fiske there to pick it up looks like a scoop and score.

Verse still talking shit tells some Cowboy to shut up as he walked off.

Far field, Quick out from Jimmy G to Cooper Kupp down the outside for Touchdown.

Another "TV Timeout"

Special teams running punt plays in front of us. Kyren Williams back to receive. Cowboys punter with a huge punt Kyren had to drop all the way back to the 10 yard line he kicked it from his own 18.

Xavier Smith back now and punter shanks this one Smith does good job fielding bouncing ball.

Kyren Williams back again fields the punt over his shoulder.

Coaches yelling for the two's now, Xavier Smith comes running back out. That means Kyren Williams is the starting punt returner?

Xavier Smith on that one miss judged that one. Ball bounced out of bounds.

Rams turn to punt.

Trey Tomlinson getting into it with number 40 on the Cowboys they started pushing and shoving but it got broken up quick.

Lance throws to #16 Jalen Cropper on the crossing pattern, broken up by Tanner Ingle.

That's a wrap.

Herd calls it for the Rams

I happened to climb into the pickup today and the local sports radio station was on (1280 The Ticket) as Cowherd was calling for the Rams to win the NFC West.
Colin Cowherd based his prognostication on the the Rams having a young, talented squad the should be able to minimize and/or manage any injuries and the Head Coach/QB duo which he thinks is 2nd only to the Reid/Mahomes duo.

Stafford Leaves Scrimmage With Tightness in Hamstring

Rams QB Matthew Stafford leaves practice with hamstring issue

  • i

Sarah Barshop, ESPN Staff WriterAug 14, 2024, 04:40 PM ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford experienced hamstring tightness and did not finish Wednesday's joint practice against the Dallas Cowboys, a team official told reporters.
Rams quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett took over reps for approximately the second half of the practice as Stafford, 36, watched from the sideline.
"[Stafford] operates at a world-class level," offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said. "But we know that every rep is going to be valuable for him, no matter how many plays he's had. Unfortunately, he had some tightness."
Garoppolo, who signed with Los Angeles in March to back up Stafford, worked with the first-team offense after Stafford's exit, the reps having added significance as Garoppolo is unlikely to play in the preseason games.
"Anytime you get those ops, particularly against a defense like this with all the players they got, is going to be valuable," LaFleur said.
Garoppolo is suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy.
Bennett took snaps with the backups three days after he threw four interceptions before leading a last-minute touchdown drive against the Cowboys in the first preseason game.
"He did some good things, but we got to work on the turnovers, no doubt," LaFleur said. "But there were a lot of positives for him to be able to get out here and practice."
Stafford was scheduled to speak to reporters after practice but that news conference was canceled. Rams coach Sean McVay was not scheduled to talk to reporters Wednesday.
In 15 games last season, Stafford completed 62.6% of his passes for 3,965 yards with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Oh and see the difference between landlord and squatter. See number 22.

So, Are You Lovin' Preseason This Year?

My whole football life, I've hated Preseason (especially when it was 6 games long). But, it seems a little different this year as we watch recent draft picks getting after it. Our defense has been kicking Home Depot employee donkey, but is it real? Beau Limmer is pretty darn good.

So what do you think? Is Preseason more fun this year? It sure looked like a pretty full SoFi stadium this weekend.

Stetson Bennett = Joe Germaine.

The Rams drafted Germaine because Rams HC Dick Vermeil was the color commentator during the Rose Bowl game in 1997 when Ohio State beat Arizona State 20-17 and Germaine was the player of the game. However, from day one Germain looked overwhelmed. Bit different back then as the starters played in preseason, however, when called upon, Germain was wide eyed and seemed like the game was too big for him.

Mike Martz disliked Joe Germaine so much, he made Jamie Martin years later change his number from 9 to 11 because wearing 9, Martin reminded him of Germaine. Germaine played in the 2nd half in 1999 against the Eagles the last game of the year and it was not pretty.

So IMHO, I feel Bennet is like Germaine, I also am concerned about Bennett from the neck up. Seems when he has time to read the defense, it does not end well, whereas, he is better when plays break down. You cannot find any information on Bennet's grades in the classroom and I am not trying to prove Bennett was not born in the US, however, he did not graduate and when you google his GPA or his major at Georgia, you cannot find it. Or I could not.

Second "impact" draft in a row.

Gonna call it early.
This Rams draft class will be another very impactful class.. from top, to bottom.. well.. very bottom, we'll see.. but close!!

Verse and Fiske will be starters from game one and I have high expectations for them and nothing I've seen/read dissuades me from that.

Corum was the perfect running back for them to draft. Again.. all signs pointing to this being another pick they nailed.

Kamren Kinchens just looks like a baller.. all the practice stuff looks great and he seems to get it, immediately. He'll see the field a ton.. even if he's the third or 4th safety.

Brennan Jackson.. dealing with a little nick.. but he's gonna be an excellent 4th rusher.

Tyler Davis.. showed *plenty* in his first game, PFF score be damned. He showed some great recognition and solid explosion. A guy who will get snaps this year, for sure.

Joshua Karty... It's so nice to not worry about the kicking game!

Jordan Whittington... Nice!! Just a solid, solid football player who will contribute in many ways.. and make some plays at WR.

Beaux Limier looks like he'll play in this league to me.

KT is hurt, so, we'll see.

Looks to me like two day-one starters.. followed by two guys who are or will be starter-level players by end of year.. followed by guys who look like they can be solid rotation guys by the end of the year.. plus a kicker and Oline depth.

I love it. This organization knows what it wants in players.

Grades for Rams vs. Cowboys

Top 5 Offense
WR Jordan Whittington: 84.8
LG Zach Thomas: 84.1
RG Logan Bruss: 81.5
C Justin Dedich: 73.0
TE Miller Forristall: 71.1

Whittington was a stud, but so was the offensive line. Thomas, Bruss and Dedich allowed zero total pressures in the game. In fact, A.J. Arcuri and Conor McDermott were the only two linemen to allow any pressures on Bennett.

Forristall caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Bennett and was the fifth-highest-graded player on offense for LA.

Top 5 Defense
OLB Nick Hampton: 87.0
LB Omar Speights: 85.5
S Jaylen McCollough: 78.6
CB Shaun Jolly: 76.1
S Tanner Ingle: 73.5

Hampton was in the backfield constantly against the Cowboys, finishing the game with five total pressures.

For the most part, the secondary held up well against the Cowboys’ receivers, too, led by McCollough, Jolly and Ingle. McCollough was particularly impressive, driving on the ball to make a stick tackle on a short pass into the flat.

Bottom 5 Offense
TE Hunter Long: 52.7
WR J.J. Laap: 51.2
C Mike McAllister: 49.3
TE Davis Allen: 47.2
QB Stetson Bennett: 39.2

Bennett was unsurprisingly the lowest-graded offensive player among those who played at least 10 snaps, throwing four interceptions. Laap was targeted once but didn’t have a reception or any touches in the game. The same goes for Allen, who also had 10 pass-blocking snaps.

McAllister didn’t allow any pressures but his 61.6 run-blocking grade weighed him down.

Bottom 5 Defense
LB Olakunle Fatukasi: 54.5
CB Cameron McCutcheon: 53.1
DT Cory Durden: 47.9
DL Larrell Murchison: 43.7
DT Tuli Letuligasenoa: 30.5

All five of these defenders were among the team’s lowest-graded players for one reason or another. Durden, Fatukasi and Murchison missed one tackle each, while McCutcheon allowed a long 43-yard reception in the first quarter.

Sidenote: I'm on the Logan Bruss Bandwagon!!

Matthew Stafford is the Biggest Inspiration For Dynamic NFL Rookie

Rams' Matthew Stafford is the Biggest Inspiration For Dynamic NFL Rookie

Stafford is in an inspiration for multiple young quarterbacks.

By Eva Geitheim | Aug 8, 2024

Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford finally began earning wider praise as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL after leading the Rams to a Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022. Long underrated as he played for struggling Detroit Lions teams, Stafford has gradually been recognized as one of the league's best more and more.
Stafford has also been named the favorite quarterback among several younger players, including rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

"He's unbelievable," Williams told Kay Adams on the Up & Adams Show. "I don't think I can name three quarterbacks that play the position better than Matthew Stafford right now ... Matthew's top-two in the league."

Williams added that he hated Stafford's rating in the NFL Top 100 — No. 42 — and believes he should have been much higher. Aaron Rodgers is Williams' other favorite quarterback.

Stafford also was praised by second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud this offseason, who is the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year.
"Stafford’s a dog. He’s a dog. You don’t understand," Stroud said this past spring on the Millon Dollaz Worth of Game podcast. "That’s all I watch. I don’t watch nobody else. Stafford, dog. He will beat you with the same thing every time. All that no-look stuff, I got that from (him). That’s one of my biggest – like, I’m a fan of his.”

While he doesn't hold the amount of Pro Bowls, All-Pros, or awards that many Hall of Fame quarterbacks do, Stafford is clearly well respected around the league. He holds arguably one of the greatest arms in NFL history and is in a select category of quarterbacks who can make some of the most toughest throws on the field. Also known for his ability to make no-look passes and thread the needle, Stafford is a rare talent at the position.
The increase of respect for Stafford has also come amid the retirement of Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers missing the 2023 season with a torn Achilles. With these two quarterbacks not playing last season, Stafford became the primary great older quarterback in the NFL at 36 years old.

Stafford is coming off a 2023 season in which he helped the Rams return to the playoffs after starting the year 3-6. He threw for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions as the Rams lost to the Detroit Lions in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

Too early final 53 man roster

I would make some changes to this but otherwise agree

No way we only carry 4 CBs
Hunter Long does not deserve a roster spot plus we mainly play only 1 TE so he goes to the practice squad

The practice squad is going to be stacked with quality depth

Hunting

So my son and I were out scouting for an upcoming antelope hunt yesterday. We pulled into an area I had been looking at on my mapping app and noticed a sign. I took a picture of the sign so that I could contact the owners and ask permission to venture onto their land from BLM land if necessary. Well after scouting and finding a nice sized elk herd as well as a bunch of Himalayan Snowcocks and then a small herd of antelope, we returned home.

This morning I started to research the land company that owns the property and found that it is owned by none other than our own Stan Kroenke. After further research I found that the private land around where our October Elk hunt is also owned by our team owner. I also found that the land used to be owned by Bing Crosby.

So I sent them an email to ask permission to hunt their property and included that I am a third generation Ram fan and gave them my license plate that says RAMSRUL.

Wish me luck Rams brothers and sisters. With any luck, I will pull a couple animals off of Rams land.

Cheers

GAME DAY Rams vs Cowboys Pre-Season Game 1 / 4:30pm ET

Mods you can move wherever but had to get a couple things off my chest about this game before tomorrow.

I'm hearing Garoppolo is not going to play. He's suspended the first two games of the season, so Bennett is slated to start those two games. But happens if Bennett gets injured and can't start those games? Dresser Winn? Rams will be 0-2 if that happens. I think its incredibly short sighted to sit Grabapole.

My other concerns are OL with all the new guys. ILB is thin also, gotta play the new guys. Please keep EJones off the field.

Rams are in trouble if Pokes play any of their starters on their DL to start the game.

Some Rams Targets in 2024

COOPER KUPP:

....needs 33 receptions in his first eight games to become the fifth player in NFL history with 600 receptions in his first 100 games, joining Keenan Allen (624), Antonio Brown (622), Julio Jones(619) and Anquan Boldin (614). Kupp has 567 receptions in 92 games.

PUKA NACUA:

.....needs 92 receptions to surpass Justin Jefferson (196) and Michael Thomas (196) for the most-ever by a player in his first two seasons. Nacua had 105 receptions in his rookie season.
.....needs 100 receptions to become the first player ever to reach the mark in each of his first two seasons.
.....1,014 receiving yards to become the sixth player ever with 2,500 receiving yards in his first two seasons, joining Justin Jefferson (3,016), Odell Beckham Jr. (2,755), Randy Moss (2,726), Bill Groman (2,648) and Ja’Marr Chase (2,501). Nacua had 1,486 receiving yards in his rookie season.
....two games with at least 150 receiving yards to become the fourth player ever with five such games in his first two seasons, joining Bill Groman, Randy Moss and Jerry Rice.

MATT STAFFORD:

.......needs 3,953 passing yards to become the ninth player in NFL history with 60,000 career passing yards. Stafford has 56,047 passing yards.
.......needs 977 passing yards to surpass Eli Manning (57,023) for the tenth most all-time.
.......needs 25 touchdown passes to surpass Matt Ryan (381) for the ninth most all-time. Stafford has 357 career touchdown passes.
.......needs 166 completions to become the ninth player ever with 5,000 career completions. Stafford has 4,834 completions.

Cross Fit Swimmer Drowns Within Feet of Finish Line

Warning, this video is disturbing.

How could this happen with all of these people watching the event close by? Shouldn't life guards be ever vigilant at the end of a grueling race in case of an emergency? Lazar Dukic , a Serbian Cross Fit athlete, struggled and died with hundreds(?) of people on shore watching the event. He was struggling and no longer swimming and trying to stay afloat for a time...obviously hoping for help and none came. There needs to be great safeguards in situations like these
.
If you are tired running a race, you can just stop and hopefully recover. In a swim like this you keep swimming or you drown. Absolutely horrible.

Top Ten Marvel Films

To me - the best movies are ones that I can watch over and over again.

So these are my top 10 Marvel movies only because of re-watchability. This is not based on story or plot but the enjoyment I get from watching them.

Most of you will disagree but I don't care.

1) Avengers Endgame
2) Guardians of the Galaxy 1
3) Guardians of the Galaxy 2
4) Avengers
5) Iron Man
6) Captain America - I actually enjoyed it a heck of a lot more the second time I watched it
7. Thor - same as CA
8. X-Men
9. Avengers Infinity War
10. Dr Strange

Black Panther Wakanda which is considered the best live action marvel movie - I find to be a much overrated movie. I enjoyed it but watching it a second time - I got slightly bored. Kind of like most Oscar Winning Movies - great acting - great story - but nothing that I want to watch over and over.

I checked out YouTube TV and they want to add all these add-ons that I don't want or need.
