Rams @ Browns

After watching them last night I'm not worried about getting the win so much as I am keeping our guys healthy (especially Goff) That looked like one dirty ass team on the field last night and they will probably be even dirtier when they play a quality opponent. Myles Garett needs to be suspended for having 4 or 5 roughing the passers in two games I think he's purposely trying to take out QBs. I think this is the kind of crap opponents used to worry about when Fisher and Williams were here.

Who are the enforcers on O and D

It seems like every team has that one guy you don’t fuck with. Or a player who will always have the QBs back. For example, Taylor Lewan was that guy for the Titans. Anytime Mariota got hit hard, he would come in and fight.

Do we have one of those on offense? Obviously AD is the dude on defense. But I can’t think of anyone on offense who would put up the dukes if shit went down. Maybe Whitworth? Random topic of the day.

Rams Statistical Rankings after 2 Weeks

Yeah it's kind of ridiculous to put this stuff up this early due to sample size. But what the hell:

OFFENSE
Scoring: 28.5ppg (7th)
Third Down Conversion Rate: 46.67% (9th)
Rushing 1st Downs: 8.0pg (7th)
Yards Per Completion: 10.7 (13th)
QB Sacked Percentage: 5.63% (15th)

DEFENSE
Scoring: 18ppg (T-9th)
Third Down Conversion Rate: 37.50% (13th)
Rushing 1st Downs: 5.0 (T-6th)
Opponent Team Passer Rating: 67.3 (3rd)
Sack Percentage: 6.41% (15th)

READING BETWEEN THE LINES
1. While the Rams are not as explosive so far as they were last season, they are also far more balanced with a defense that looks poised to finish among the better units in the league.
2. Offensively the protections need to improve in the passing game and IMO they are a factor in the yards per completion. Last game the rush problems were primarily the edges, and this next game vs the Browns bring a very strong LT challenge.
3. Re: the Rams' run game I am a huge fan of rushing success rate (derived from what are deemed successful runs, i.e. more than 4 yards on first down, getting a first down, etc. and thus a very nice way to evaluate RBs). From that perspective Todd Gurley is ranked 4th in the league with a 71% Success Rate.
4. Our sack percentage numbers are skewed by teams pushing to get the ball out quickly. Basically the Rams rush IMO is easily a top ten unit, but I don't have a good source for pressure numbers that I am certain will back that up.
5. The quality of our secondary shows in the opponent team passer rating. Knocking out Brees helps, and it skews the numbers in what is already a small sample size. But I think the numbers are indicative of something going on with our unit, i.e. the quality of those 3 safeties on top of good CB play.
6. Overall I am fully expecting our defense to finish top 5 in scoring. This was a preseason expectation that I see no reason to change as of right now.

Some really nice ones in here. Just picked up a new avatar from them in fact. (y)

The End of Brees

That was the last you’ll see of Brees. Atleast a good Brees.
That ligament in your thumb completely alters the way you use your hand. The surgery is only productive 50% of the time. The recovery time is 9-12 months. It’s not something you can play through as a quarterback. Especially a small QB. He’ll never be able to grip the ball the same.

I tore that ligament wrestling 3 years ago and still can’t hold up a gallon of water with it.

I couldn’t imagine trying to grip an NFL sized football and throwing it.

Power Rankings

.

3 RAMS (2-0) down 1

Previous rank: No. 2

Drew Brees' thumb injury took a lot of juice out of Sunday's NFC Championship Game rematch between New Orleans and Los Angeles, but don't hate on the Rams if they don't feel any less pleased about a convincing win. The offense remains out of sync when compared to the best times of the last two seasons under Sean McVay, but Sunday brought progress. The most impressive play? A gorgeous 57-yard rainbow from Jared Goff to Brandin Cooks to set up L.A.'s opening field goal. Cooper Kupp, meanwhile, has not skipped a beat following reconstructive knee surgery. He's been Goff's favorite receiver this season, leading the team with 19 targets. His 66-yard catch-and-run to the goal line showed speed and power that backs up the offseason reports that he's more explosive now than he was before the ACL tear. The Rams are 2-0 and have yet to hit their stride. Good place to be.

.

.

2. Los Angeles Rams (2-0, LW: 2)
Seeing Cooper Kupp go for 120 yards was a great sign. He showed a lot of strength and explosion on a 66-yard catch-and-run that was just short of a touchdown. Coming off a torn ACL, it was fantastic to see Kupp look like he’s 100 percent.

.

Should we go after Ramsey?

Man, McVay is seemingly good at dealing with the personalities. But this guy? I don't like the idea. Add to that, we can't afford him.

Now we get to the scenario, does it make sense for the Los Angeles Rams to target the 24-year-old two-time pro bowler?
Ramsey is an eccentric player who often crosses lines between the field by way of physical altercations and whatnot, though his play needs no vouching. Ramsey is arguably the best cornerback in football and has been in the discussion for years now.
Per Ian Rapaport, Ramsey has requested a trade to a team that will allow him to travel with top receivers and play more man-to-man coverage:

These might pose an issue as the Rams do like to deploy plenty of zone coverage and don’t flip cornerbacks, though Ramsey is worth adjusting for, particularly because players of his caliber allow you to play more man coverage with less fear of getting toasted.
The Rams are stacked in the secondary, meaning they won’t be desperate to add any more talent to the room, though both starting cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters are in contract years.
Ramsey will account for roughly $7m in cap space in 2019 and $13m in 2020 as he’s still playing on his rookie contract. The Rams currently have just a touch over $2m in cap space per Over The Cap, meaning they’d need to do a bit of dancing around to make it work, though they’ve shown a propensity to part with picks to gather talent.
Could the Rams pull the trigger for Jalen Ramsey?

Postgame Notes & Thoughts (long)

After a rewatch in which I jotted things down and replayed some stuff, apologies for being all over the map it's sort of a stream of consciousness thing...

Rams ran a 2 down lineman look on big passing downs with AD & Brock as the two linemen with a great deal of success. Right out the gate on the Saints second possession the Rams defense held on third down forcing the 3 'n out with AD instant pressure on Brees that forced a questionable pass to Cook that was just out of the reach of Rapp (that was the throw he hurt his thumb on btw). Have to think at some point we'll see teams run draw plays vs that look, but it was impressive.

In general the Saints' offense had no answers for the Rams' defense. Even early when Brees was in there, the Rams were winning the LOS and swarming to the ball with excellent coverage. Our defense also forced a ton of penalties up front as a result of them winning the LOS (Rams even declined a 15 yard personal foul in the first half because they got the stuff for lost yards). This bodes well if we see them again in the playoffs assuming they get there and get Brees back.

Goff had nerves early on. He missed some throws he usually makes, missed some open receiver options (Everett was a better option than Kupp in the redzone just before the half) but also had a big drop work against him. During the game yesterday I was of the opinion that his protections were terrible. They really weren't though. He had some pressure in his face time to time, but basically this was a playoff game in week 2 and the truth IMO is he had to settle in and he did. Impressive overall day for him to my eye at least, because winning ugly at QB is a skill that only the best possess.

Gurley had some runs where he wasn't seeing the holes very well IMO. Maybe it's the lesser carries (the great ones to include Gurley really get better as the game goes on with the snaps). He also had some plays where he could have fought for some yardage by turning it up but instead elected to go out of bounds. I presume, giving him the benefit of the doubt here, that is about preserving his knee. But it surprised me.

Brown had a great day in terms of seeing the holes and quickly making his cuts to get the most from the chaos on the runs with traffic. IMO he's one of those backs who's a natural for picking his way through traffic and he has the balance to stay on his feet through a lot of contact.

Our edge rushers had a fine game overall. Matthews & Fowler were excellent as a duo and pressures were frequent. But also Wade did a great job moving them around and subbing in Ebu who you could also feel there wasn't a ton of dropoff. Really happy with how they looked vs a very good Saints OL.

First possession in the redzone for the Rams following the big pass play to Cooks (which had exemplary protection for Goff on a 3rd down and forever btw) the Rams started out with a run up the middle that had fantastic blocking by all 3 interior OL, followed by a penalty to set the Rams up for a 2nd and 2 and easy TD. But McVay got a bit too cute with a play action attempt (in which Goff didn't sell the action) for which a run would have scored (blocking was there again), followed by a left side screen that got blown up. IMO that first offensive series McVay outsmarted himself. The run was there shoulda trusted his line.

If Cooks hauls in that pass by Goff on third down (at 6:15 on the clock first quarter) you are talking HUGE PLAY and field position flip. Was a ton of green for him to operate in with the DB trailing. Just a huge drop in a situation in which the offense was pinned back inside their 10 due to a nice punt and Gnats fielding the fair catch. It's funny... During the first watch it seemed like the Rams were struggling offensively. But now I realize they had flipped the field on the previous series with the long pass to Cooks, and basically SHOULD HAVE flipped the field again with another huge reception to him. Basically they were soooo close to clicking early on with a very hot start, a dropped pass away. And on the Saints' side of things, after giving up big time receptions to the Texans all night in game 1 they should be very concerned that the Rams didn't take advantage of what was there; they have problems in their secondary IMO, at least in matching up with good passing games.

In the first watch through I saw Hav gettin worked. But tbh both Big Whit & Havenstein were mismatched on the edge. Saints really have a nice edge tandem and the reason Hav didn't get a lot of help is because their focus was on both edges where Whit was struggling too. I'm used to ignoring LT which is a testament to Whit. But damn it surprised me to see that they were applying heat to both tackles the entire game (Hav struggled more, obviously). Cred here again to the Saints too, as you can draw things up all you want but players gotta win their matchups and the Saints won a lot of them on the edge. Their edge rush is excellent.

Interior OL had a far stronger game than I thought. Allen played his best game of his career, not saying much I realize but still... He made the calls without any free rushers, held up well vs the pass, and excelled in run plays (lots of examples of him making 2nd level blocks particularly on the pitch plays). Boom had a very strong matchup but held his own very well. Even Blythe who I like to give a hard time played well through that first half of the game before he was injured. Demby came in and had a really rough start but I have to admit settled down and played well. I feel way better about these guys now.

DL played lights out vs one of the league's best OL. Not only did the real AD show up but he also came back to the game after an injury to gut it out. SJD had a very strong game in the middle, I was really impressed with how he stuffed things up and was a big part of the reason why we played the run so well. And Brock might have had one of the best games I've seen from him since 2017. I mean damn. He moved around, got pressures, stuffed the run, and looked like the guy who is a team leader that leaves it all on the field we remember from a couple seasons ago.

Secondary had not only a great game plan, but executed it at a very high level. Receivers were blanketed on many of the plays. And the safeties just can't say enough about them when they (and Littleton) hold a guy like Kamara down. Even with Brees out their performance was outstanding.

Three teams in the NFC West sitting at 2-0. Gonna be a fun season dudes. Oh and McVay is 20-0 when leading at halftime.

Watch highlights from Rams' impressive win over Saints

The New Orleans Saints were no match for the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon, largely because Drew Brees missed most of the game with an injury to his throwing hand. The Rams lost a few players themselves – Aaron Donald left briefly, while Austin Blythe and Tyler Higbee also suffered injuries – but none were as big as Brees leaving the game.
The Rams took advantage and rolled to a 27-9 victory, keeping the high-powered Saints offense out of the end zone all day.

It was a relatively close game until the end of the third quarter when the Rams began to pull away. Of course, the Saints were robbed of a defensive touchdown after a fumble was ruled incomplete and blown dead, but Los Angeles took advantage of its opportunities.
If you missed the game, the full highlight reel can be seen below. Cooper Kupp’s 66-yard catch is must-see, as is Brandin Cooks’ 57-yard grab.

Okay, so which NFC teams look the strongest after only 2 weeks into the regular season?

Disclaimer: This is strictly for fun and should NOT be taken seriously.

IOW, which teams are looking like Ram playoff competition?

Let’s see...

Saints are likely to struggle without Brees for 6 weeks, right?

Eagles are 1-1 already with a whopping +1 point differential. And I don’t see Wentz finishing the season healthy. Again.

Packers are 2-0 but, man, they’ve only scored 31 points. WTH is their O?

Vikings and Bears are each 1-1 and tied for 3rd place in their own division. Bears have scored a whopping 19 points, btw.

Dallas is 2-0 and owns an impressive +28 point differential already.

Which brings me to the NFC West. Niners and Seahawks are both 2-0 and in a 3-way tie for first place with the Rams. Niners are a league leading +38 point differential and the Seahawks are always a tough matchup for any team.

Yeah, it’s way too early, but after 2 games it’s kinda looking at this point like the Cowboys, Niners, and Seahawks just might be the stiffest competition for the Rams. Cowboys and Niners have beaten suspect teams, so there is that. And the Seahawks have beaten the winless Bengals and Steelers by a combined 3 points. Sooooo...

Ummmmm...

More I think about it the more I like the Rams chances this year barring catastrophic injuries, of course.

Rapoport: Los Angeles Rams TE Tyler Higbee “coughed up blood” from lung injury
Higbee exited Sunday’s game with a reported chest injury. On Monday morning, more details are being released.

A day after he left Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints with a reported “chest injury”, we are now learning that Los Angeles Rams TE Tyler Higbee injured his lung.

According to the NFL Network’s Michael Rapoport, Higbee’s injury caused him to “cough up blood.”

The most surprising thing about this story is that Rapoport reports Higbee won’t miss much time, which is not something I expected to read immediately following the nugget about coughing up blood.

Sunday’s game between the Rams and the Saints saw a multitude of injuries to starters like Higbee, DT Aaron Donald, and New Orleans QB Drew Brees, to name a few. Brees injury turned out to be torn ligament in his thumb, which we now know will require surgery and will require the Saints offense to be without their star quarterback for six to eight weeks.

HURRICANE AARON DONALD

Yesterday I was all decked in my White and Blue as I wore 55 years ago watching Gabriel & Snow & the Fearsome Foursome. At 3:30 here in Hurricane Michael disaster land Sunday I turned on TV to watch as this White Horned tornado touched down and it all began as we saw Fowler JR. the 3rd from one side and Clay Matthews on the other side of the defense playing his first game in the L.A. Collesium since he was at USC once again and he closed down the opposite side from Fowler and in the middle Hurricane Aaron Donald struck and not a BREES was heard throughout the whole Collesium. and After being hit no football was ever picked up again in the whole game by Drew and his surgery in L.A. today Drew has a SIX WEEK recovery sch3edule:p as saints Head Coach :clownface lost all control. I saw all Fantasy football clowns fly by in a cloud as a Kamara went flying by with his stats falling to the ground. The other RB for the TAINTS was so silent I can't waste the space to write mr gash's name:censored:. I LOVE my RAMS in white horns just crushed tight end cook once more as a pile of Peat just hit the ground.

Hurricane Aaron Donald hit and the pin ball offense run by shitface Peyton could do nothing as backup qb's fell to the ground in black uni's everywhere with no success in this wide receiver laden offense. The L.A. RAMS defense went through Nawlins like shit through a goose. Coach McVay had his playcard blown out of his hand and we just called running plays after #12 Cooks caught a 57 yard pass in the air and no redzone plays to call once again due to the storm. Big Ben will also have surgery and is out for the season. Aaron Donald and this very special RAMS DEFENSE with Weddle,Rapp,Littleton,Gaines,Day and a cast of others. Once again it's up to the RAMS to take down the highly touted whiners and shecocks who are both 2-0. Coach McVay has been smart to only practice at walk through speed against Aaron & he said if he had to play aaron he would take a knee every down. The run game for the RAMS looks promising if the play calling had some organization to them. We have the power & speed.

It was a beautifull thing to watch after we went through two weeks before last years SB game with the whining from Nawlins was at a roar. I know hand surgery and to run shitfaces offense like it's been seen will take more than six weeks to be back in form in the dome. The shecocks have beaten no one as they beat a headless steelers and the whiners beat the bungles and Bucs. This is making Aaron Donald hungry. The Eagles lost so many players in their very deep team last night in Atlanta. I just want the AB led pats in Miami in February after we show Jeera his boys aren't all that. Most important is beating down the browns after they finish with the headless Jets who don't have their xpensive rb either. I haven't heard about our MRI on Blythe as we need him or Edwards at right guard to keep our O-line getting better as McVay gets a new playlist and we reorganize when to call plays and our REDZONE offense. Let's get more creative PLEASE and hoping Higbees chest injury is nothing. AB's accuser speaks to the NFL's head honcho & things may change quickly. The pats have a real defense behind #71 in the middle and tons of rb's to throw to. We need to start preparing behind the scenes on how were gonna shut down that quick passing game from the goat as The LOS ANGELES RAMS are about only one thing from the day we destroyed Nawlins future. WORLD CHAMPIONS this year in MIAMI after having goat meat and the Horns hold up the LOMBARDI.

Yesterday was a beautifull thing and let's just keep our heads down and stay healthy as we get better week to week. Don't buy the Hype once folks start thinking and saying we are Destiny's team. Don't laugh. It's coming after about 3-4 more weeks. Love you all . Love my RAMS and let's get well, organized and our offense and redzone finally worked out for the season. Need our young genius to show us some more. Hurricanes are no joke as it looks like Hiroshima outside my front door as Bonifay RAM knows too well as he lives just throwing distance north of me. We both are going through health issues so brother fans pray for us so we can see the RAMS as WORLD CHAMPIONS once more before heaven. When Brown and Gurley get it goin it's gonna be AWESOME. Then go PLAY ACTION.

Your Favorite Play Of The Game?

Several good plays, (and lots of bad), Like to know which were your favorite. Here's mine.

First qtr, Saints first drive.

Eric Weddle, after going through concussion protocol and getting 7 stiches in his noggin, puts the whammy on former Ram and diva TE Jarred Cook, who was targeted for a 15 yd completion over the middle by Brees. Weddle hit Cook as the ball got there for an imcompletion and Cook goes straight to the sideline looking dazed. loved it.
