Question I would ask Snead...

considering the Rams track record in drafting offensive players (specifically lineman) vs. defensive players would it make more sense that when we make big trades using high picks that we do it for proven offensive lineman and use our 2-4 round picks on defensive players rather than OL picks?

I mean...based on the track record of the offensive players we have drafted I think our scouting team has a better eye for defensive talent vs. offensive.

Just a thought.

Cordy Glenn wants out of cincy.

  • Cordy Glenn T, Cincinnati Bengals

Profootballtalk reports the Bengals and LT Cordy Glenn have disputed the severity of his concussion.

Per Mike Florio, the sides are at loggerheads "regarding the concussion, its symptoms, whether he’s able to return, the need for second opinions, and how the player feels." The Bengals have apparently fined Glenn $200,000 for conduct detrimental to the team, while things reportedly "got heated" Wednesday. Glenn apparently asked for his release. Much like Trent Williams in Washington, Glenn believes the Bengals have mishandled the situation. Although Glenn "resumed practicing" on Wednesday, it's pretty clear he won't be out there Sunday.

  • Im not sure if this guy has ever played guard I know he has played right and left tackle. I sure hope the rams are kicking the tires.

I've selected a game to travel out to LA, while on business in SD.

I've used Ticketmaster for a couple of games.

What kind of luck has the board had with other outlets?

I saw some seats on Stubhub that were less expensive than Ticketmaster in the same sections.

It’s not how you start...

...it’s how you finish.

if there’s a time to suffer injuries, it’s early in the year when the backups have time to develop, starters get time to heal, and the team has time to make moves.

Like everyone else, I found the optics of this offense flailing and a couple games where the defense couldn’t stop the bleeding as an enormous disappointment most of us didn’t see coming...at least not to this extent. Sure, the OLine would need to gel, but to see all five regress was unprecedented.

The silver lining? McVay and Kromer have time to adjust the scheme to fit the players. Wade gets to use Jalen as a centerpiece to revamp the defense to his liking. The returns of JJ and Talib will add flexibility. There are simply too many players who have All Pro talent and drive for a 3-3 record to produce a total collapse. Without a few fluke plays, the Rams beat the Hawks and 9’ers even though they were truly outplayed.

A three game losing streak at the end of a season coupled with key personnel losses spell doom for most teams. Occurring early in the season is an opportunity to become something more than originally planned.

Why not Talib at Safety?

I’ve wondered, since he’s older...he has lost a step, but he’s a hell of. Tackler. It worked for Charles Woodson, it worked for Aneas Williams...Just feel that when he comes back, if David Long is what everyone says he is, with Weddle and Tabib at Safety...that could change things around.

Just a thought as to how to improve.

TNF: Chiefs at Broncos

Thursday Night Football: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos

It's a quick turnaround for both the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos, as they play in an intriguing game to kick off Week 7 of the NFL season on "Thursday Night Football." These two teams played twice in the span of a month last year with Kansas City taking both matchups. The one in Denver was a Monday night affair in which the Chiefs scored twice in the last 6:30 to win 27-23. The Chiefs also won at home later on, 30-23, as Patrick Mahomes threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns.

Kansas City's season started out with a 4-0 record with three of those wins coming on the road in Jacksonville, Oakland, and Detroit. The offense was cruising, scoring 28 points or more in all of the victories. The team then hit some adversity in a 19-13 loss to the Colts at home and followed that up with a 31-24 defeat at the hands of the Texans, also at home. The Chiefs even got wide receiver Tyreek Hill back last week, but it wasn't enough as the defense struggled to get stops.

The Broncos' year started out with four straight losses, although three of those came by single digits. One could argue they were hosed out of a victory in Week 2 when a horrible roughing the passer penalty gave the Bears new life on their final drive. In Week 4, they were Gardner Minshew'd out of a victory as well. Since then, Denver has reeled off wins at the Chargers and at home against the Titans. No one can blame the defense for the 2-4 record, as the unit is seventh in the league at 17.7 points per game allowed.

Kansas City at Denver

Kickoff: Thursday, Oct. 17 at 8:20 p.m. ET
TV: FOX/NFL Network
Spread: Kansas City -3.5

Three Things to Watch

1. Intangibles

As always, there are some angles to consider to this matchup, especially with it being on a short week. Kansas City is playing its fourth road game of the season after a stretch of three of four at home. They have to travel, which will wreak a little havoc on their planning schedule, and, of course, they have to deal with the altitude. There's also the matter of a two-game losing streak the Chiefs really want to put a stop to. On the other side, Denver is playing a second straight game at home, which always is a big help when playing on a Thursday. The Broncos have a road game against the Colts lined up in Week 8, but this is a divisional contest against one of their biggest rivals, so neither focus nor motivation should be an issue.

2. Need more offense

Denver's offense has been pretty anemic so far this year. They've scored 20 points or fewer in all but one contest when they put up 24 on Jacksonville. Joe Flacco's numbers aren't great in the box score, but he's completed almost 67 percent of his passes with six touchdowns to five interceptions. The signal-caller is still a bit of a statue in the pocket, as he's been sacked 15 times. It'll be interesting to watch Emmanuel Sanders' status for this one — he left Sunday's game against the Titans with a knee injury — as he's their second-leading receiver with 307 yards and two touchdowns. The hope is he will play, but if he can't, that places more pressure on Courtland Sutton, who may finally be coming into his own. It's the run game that's been big for the home team. Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman have combined for nearly five yards per carry with three touchdowns. This team can't get into a shootout so they will have to get into a ball-control contest.

3. Can KC become two-dimensional?

There's no doubting how good Mahomes is as a quarterback, but the best teams in the league find some sort of balance and are able to run the ball. KC had just 11 rushes to 36 passing attempts in their loss to the Texans last week. LeSean McCoy had eight of those carries for 44 yards and that's not good enough. If you go back over the whole season, this team has 203 passing attempts to just 112 rushes. The run game has had some success, but it's really hard to rely on McCoy, who is past his prime, as well as Damien and Darrel Williams (no relation). Denver entered Sunday's game allowing just over 126 rushing yards per contest, so the opportunities are there. They were fifth against the pass and padded that total a bit against the awful Tennessee passing attack.

Final Analysis

The world is doubting the Chiefs right now after these last two losses and rightfully so. There may be a lot of people betting on the Broncos as home underdogs, thinking they can extend their streak. Remember, last year they probably should have beaten Kansas City at home, but they let it go late. I think Patrick Mahomes has a very good game and the Chiefs make just enough stops. I just don't think Joe Flacco is good enough for a game like this.

Prediction: Chiefs 24, Broncos 16

Rams plan to have Jalen Ramsey ready to play in Week 7

The Los Angeles Rams intend to have Jalen Ramsey available immediately after acquiring him.
Coach Sean McVay revealed that the Rams plan to have Ramsey ready to play in Week 7 despite his month-long absence.

Ramsey has been bothered by a back injury and has not played since Week 3. There has been some speculation that he’d been using the injury as an excuse to avoid the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the fact that he’s apparently expected to play the week the Rams acquire him will only fuel those theories.
In spite of this, Ramsey had appeared on track to play for the Jaguars before being traded. Given how compromised the Rams would be in the secondary without him, they really need him to hit the ground running.

Rams New Defensive Backfield

CB1 Ramsey
CB2 Hill
Slot NRC
S1 Weddle
S2 Rapp
S3 Christian

Wanted to talk about these guys as a group and move past the Ramsey focus, and have thrown up some nice color codes for you mouth breathers. :p

When I compare this group to what we had this last weekend, it is stronger at the top. Ramsey's questions (duration he'll be in horns and his behavior) aside, he is going to give Wade his coveted man coverage ability. And I think under this staff he might become a better player too, as Wade continues to coach him up by working him on his zone game. Whether it works long term or how long who knows but this year we should have a top corner to help this defense turn the corner.

Hill is very interesting at CB2. While he's a cut below the others (he has shown flashes in the past) Wade seems to really be happy with his development and his recent play has been good. So he might be underrated in terms of what he can provide, which IMO is he is going to play the call. He is going to bring consistency and discipline in being where he should be, basically.

With NRC rounding out the group and if Hill just brings consistency, this is suddenly a respectable group of corners.

At safety I think Weddle is still finding that line with Wade. In other words while I value his experience and all that I suspect he has to get to that point still where he and Wade understand how much he can freelance and change things and when. But he's smart and I think his best ball is ahead in this defense. Then you have Rapp who I think is going to improve going forward. If we had JJ damn... I'd be looking at this group and thinking "there is no way these guys don't ball the F out." Christian is the liability but tbh if that's where your weak link is you have yourself a pretty fine group.

And we're probably gonna get Talib back for the playoffs if this team survives the season and gets in. He's not elite any more but him added to this group gives them a great deal of flexibility.

My expectation here looks homer as hell. I know. But by God I am excited to see what this defense can do if these guys sort quickly.

Deion thinks it’s a rental

Read an article where Deion Sanders expressed his belief that Jalen Ramsey is not long for LA. He thinks the switch from no state income tax in Fla to the crushing taxes in California are going to have Ramsey reluctant to sign an extension, which would give the Rams a year and a half of Ramsey. Of course in that case I guess the Rams could just try and get their picks back and move on.

Offensive Lines

I have been a big proponent of a teams Offensive Line being the most important piece of the team.

I still believe a good team has good offensive line, BUT....................I think the definition of a "Good Offensive line" gets blurred often with fans and the media.

Most of the "Good" Olines are not full of stars.....in fact, most often I notice it has one great player and several other average to good players. Look at the Patriots. Every year, (just like the rest of their team) they hobble together players who are unknown, but play well.

So....having said that and disliking the Rams Oline, I am hesitant to have us grab Free Agents or trade for top dollar guys when most often a good line is a bunch of guys who play together well.

No, I do not know what this means for our Rams and the Oline. Maybe we do need to shuffle the unproven guys in to see if the blend better than the others.

After waiting overnight to gather my thoughts...

And I’ve read every single post about these trades, both pro and con.

Corbett is a so-so trade on the face of it, but the cost was very reasonable, so there is that. I’m assuming that Kromer sees something that the Browns coaches never did. I’m a big Kromer fan still, although his reputation has been somewhat tarnished by this years results. This may not be the last OL move before trade deadline. And Corbett seems unlikely to solve our OL woes even with the most optimistic view. Seems like an okay move at this point, but we should never underestimate Kromer on these matters, given his track record.

Kenny Young is slightly more intriguing to me. Rams reportedly insisted on him specifically in the Peters trade. If true, then this could be a sneaky under-the-radar get for the Rams. Not earth shaking, but very solid move nonetheless. A Snead special. I kinda like the possibilities.

And now for the blockbuster trade. I see the points made by those many who love this trade. I do. But I also see the points made by the skeptics, too. This is a very high cost move that will have ripple effects for years and years. Could be a net positive or negative. So I’m gonna trust the FO and coaches for now and try to set aside my reservations about Ramsey’s diva history. IOW, I’m not all in on the Ramsey trade, but I am slightly tilting toward approval. Probably only because of my faith in Snead and McVay/Phillips.

A question for the deeper thinkers on the board. (Just kidding)

OL was and is the biggest issue on our ‘19 team in terms of making the playoffs THIS year, right?

Sooooo...

Isn’t it curious that the blockbuster trade involved bailing on Peters and trading for Ramsey midseason? Such emphasis on D while our OL is flailing about?

Question: So, are the Rams really pursuing “win in ‘19” with this move, or is this merely for the long term benefits? To leave the OL unfinished if they’re serious about winning this year seems so Un-Snead/McVay like, don’t you think?

OR is there another OL trade in the Rams near future? One that could return our OL to at least league average? I sure wouldn’t rule it out after yesterday’s moves. I have no clue how such a meaningful move would be affordable, but that’s another story.

Seems so strange to ignore the OL while spending immense resources on the D IF they are still committed to winning this year. Might be kinda like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic after hitting the iceberg.

Not a criticism of the Ramsey trade, btw. I get that. Just curious as to why they’ve left the OL dangling. So far, anyway.

Rams key stats through six games

OFFENSE
Scoring: 25.5ppg (T-9th)
Rushing: 98.3ypg (22nd)
Passer Rating: 80.8 (27th)
QB Sacked Percentage: 4.65% (8th)
Yards Per Attempt: 6.6 (18th)
Yards Per Completion: 10.7 (15th)
Third Down Conversion: 36% (18th)

* OL got trucked vs SF but not every game has been that poor of a performance. Boom struggled over the first six before his injury but the OTs and Allen have also had their moments.
* Goff has been slow on his reads all season and it has affected the play makers where instead of getting the ball in space catches are contested and there's little green around them. Result is fewer big plays. He also has suffered from the rush and lack of a run game obviously but he has to speed things up IMO and maybe this year's OL will help him raise the bar on his processing speed, i.e. in his development curve maybe this period will benefit him.
* Run game requires someone to carry the load. Gurley injured. Of course Brown now that we need him once again is reportedly injured (he has a disturbing ability IMO to NOT be available WHEN we need him). Hendy looked good until the flub on the pitch then went directly into the doghouse, can he carry the load moving forward? Keep saying it, but CJ is out there. We need someone we can RELY on, who can carry the load and be the horse to make defenses respect the run game.
* I am waiting for word on who will start at LG which as we all know is a huge decision and I hope Edwards is the guy, if it's Demby that will extend the struggles IMO. They also need to open up competition with Allen to push him (there wasn't any real competition on this roster for him) so I hope Corbett can do that.

DEFENSE
Scoring: 25.7ppg (27th)
Rushing: 105.5 (16th)
Opposing Passer Rating: 90.9 (17th)
Sack Percentage: 5.94% (19th) <adjusted sack percentage is also ranked 19th>
Yards Per Attempt: 7.0 (T-12th)
Yards Per Completion: 11 (18th)
Third Down Conversion: 42.50% (20th)

Some advanced defensive run game stats (I wanted to look a little deeper on the run defense :D)...
Stuffed Runs (RB tackled at or behind the LOS): 20% (10th)
Power Success (Success rate of stopping short yardage runs): 53% (7th)

* The defense has really been our biggest problem when you look at the points allowed. Now granted they have been given some terrible situations that don't show in the stats, most likely worse than most units have faced, so I think they're a little bit better than their points allowed show but still the unit has been a disappointment.
* Our biggest problem IMO is in the secondary where lack of discipline and poor pattern matching/handoffs in zone between DBs have led to blown coverages, big plays, and poor coverage on key downs. These things have also allowed teams to get back ahead of the chains when they're behind, turning 2nd and long into 3rd and short. Lastly it's been up and down and it's why they moved Peters and grabbed Ramsey as they tend to do better in their man looks. But that said even with Ramsey they need to fix these things when they face the scrambling QBs that are on our schedule ahead.
* It will be nice to get Matthews back when that happens. With him out we have a backup starting which affects everything when the offense now only has to work protections for Fowler on the edge. Who, btw, has done some good and bad things. I think he loses contain too much, i.e. risks it more than he should, but he also plays the run well when he's in position. Look for them to start giving Obo opportunity to push for more time too, as Fowler is going to leave in FA now.
