Was McVay premature in bailing on Goff to trade for Stafford?

Here’s my contention, I guess.

But it requires some assumptions.

IF the Rams keep Goff and IF McVay coaches him to his strengths rather than forcing him to play in McVay’s preferred O. (Like the lightly regarded Campbell has done)

And IF Rams used those two 1sts and that 3rd wisely in addition to their other picks…

THEN, imo, Rams would be in a much better position today than they are right now. Might or might not have that Lombardi but the view of their future for next 10 years would be considerably brighter than it now is. Top 5 QB in his prime with a loaded roster? Are you KIDDING me?

Sigh…

Some PFF grades

Offense
  • LT Alaric Jackson: 80.4
  • RG Kevin Dotson: 76.9
  • RB Ronnie Rivers: 73.4
  • TE Colby Parkinson: 72.9
    • RB Kyren Williams: 70.1
    • WR Tutu Atwell: 69.9
    • WR Jordan Whittington: 68.1
  • QB Matthew Stafford: 65.3
  • WR Tyler Johnson: 56.3
  • C Beaux Limmer: 56.1
  • WR Demarcus Robinson: 53.3
  • LG Logan Bruss: 44.4

Defense

  • DT Braden Fiske: 90.6
  • DT Kobie Turner: 89.4
  • DB Quentin Lake: 83.4
  • NT Bobby Brown III: 73.0
  • OLB Jared Verse: 71.9
  • S Kamren Curl: 54.1
  • CB Tre’Davious White: 53.4
  • S Kamren Kinchens: 49.9
  • LB Troy Reeder: 49.8
  • OLB Byron Young: 49.7
  • CB Cobie Durant: 44.6
DT Neville Gallimore: 37.9

Looks like the with some exceptions the trenches were good enough to win. LB play was not. Partially explains the inability to stop the run.

Life After Stafford

There's a strong possibility Stafford walks this offseason. There's also a slimmer chance he retires but he's gone on record saying he's got a few more years in him. Personally, I don't think the way this team is built right now gives him much of a reason to stick around - hopefully I'm wrong.

But lets assume I'm not and he walks after this season. What's the game plan? Draft a rookie, sign a vet, roll with Stetson?

Give me your thoughts.

Game Day Thread

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember our core principles; we always show respect for our team and each other.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and each other.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad. We are here for FUN, not to be dragged down.

A more loosely moderated atmosphere can be found in the chat room.

Go Rams!
