Key to Entire Season - McVay

I am no football expert. But I have watched the Rams and the NFL for too many decades to be proud of, so here is my unsolicited opinion.

THIS SEASON BOILS DOWN TO McVAY CONTINGENCY PLANNING.

All teams have good players. All teams have good coaching. The football always takes funky bounces. But one thing that is clear to me is that in the past, our coach has been slow to adjust to a defense that has "caught on" to his approach.

This is a normal part of the NFL game that I think makes or break the Rams season. It's not if, but WHEN, a team tweaks it D to take away the new wrinkle(s) McVay has installed this season, has he set up (and trained his team) to go to Plan B, or even Plan C?

There is one rule in which I firmly believe: You can't take away everything. A defense has to make choices. So I'm hopeful McVay has already been working and training his team on his countermoves when the expected adjustments by opposing defenses kick in.

He's clearly smart enough. He has boundless energy. This seems like a given. But his track record does not make it 100% certain to me.

That is my $0.02 on what could be a GREAT season for our Rams!

Of course, I will be watching with great interest as this story develops...

Cooper Kupp

Just read a yardbarker article...don’t know how to attach, that Cooper Kupp had a lackluster game against the Cowboys. That he needs to step it up because he just inked a new contract, and his effort against the Cowboys just wasn’t good enough. Huh? I don’t think lackluster is in Kupp vocabulary. What a stupid comment. The article said that he only had 4 catches for 40 yards. Last time I checked, Cooper isn’t in charge of target distribution. What does this writer have against Koop?

20 Random Post-Game 1 Thoughts

1. We won. Everything else is commentary.

2. I think the Cowboys are a pretty good team, so this was a quality win.

3. I thought McVay did a very good job of game planning to take the Cowboys pass rush, which is formidable, out of the game for the most part.

4. Not a ton of holes for the running backs, but I thought they did a good job of ensuring that we had positive yardage on virtually every play.

5. You have to love Malcolm Brown. 6th Round pick... playing behind a franchise back for his first 5 years... RBs drafted every year to essentially take his job... and he's not only still there... he's thriving.

6. Jared Goff had a solid outing. The INT was obviously not his fault (should have been a 15 yard penalty) and there were a few (Everett, Jefferson, Brown) drops.

7. The deep throw to Jefferson was a thing of beauty.

8. Yes, that was offensive pass interference. Textbook, really. They "surprised they would call that at that point in the game" take is silly. The rules are the rules.

9. Aaron Donald really messes with opposing teams' game plans.

10. Michael Brockers had a nice game.

11. Jordan Fuller - what a huge play for the rookie!

12. Leonard Floyd did a good job rushing the passer.

13. Seeing Jachai Polite in a tight 4th quarter on the field and pressuring the QB was pretty remarkable. There's talent there... hope he continues to show it.

14. Sam Sloman's first FG attempt was pretty ugly. Jury's still out on that one.

15. The new stadium is impressive. Really impressive. Can't wait to see it full.

16. I thought the new uniforms looked pretty good. Still would have preferred making the throwbacks permanent, but you can't always get what you want.

17. Taylor Rapp's limited role was surprising. I suspect it was situational, to a large degree, but its not what you want to see in a promising second year player.

18. Overall, you have to like the Game 1 contribution of the rookie class.

19. The piped in crowd noise was interesting. I found myself forgetting that there were no fans in the stadium. I'm sure the players didn't feel that way.

20. Its been a long offseason. I really needed this one!

Rams Defense vs Cowboys?

Did not get to see the game but am curious on other Rams Fans thoughts/opinions on how the Rams Defense (Especially, The Linebackers) played last night. From what I have read the Rams Defense was kind of “BEND BUT DON’T BREAK” last night??? And, I did see replays of Fuller’s STOP which may have saved the Game for the Rams! GREAT WIN FOR THE RAMS!!!

Letter from Demoff to fans

Dear Rams Fans,

A house becomes a home through memories, through shared experiences, through celebrations and tears.

As we open our new Rams House today, I will drive to Inglewood thinking fondly of all that our fans have done to help us prepare for this moment. I remember Tom Bateman and the 60,000 members of Bring Back the LA Rams who captured the NFL’s attention and celebrated with us at The Forum. I think of the goose bumps I felt getting off the bus in Oxnard for our scrimmage against the Cowboys and the roar of 91,000 fans when the Red Hot Chili Peppers kicked off our opener against the Seahawks.

I can picture our players celebrating with the Melonheads after beating the Vikings on Thursday Night Football, feel a city united in joy after Gerald Everett scored to beat the Chiefs, and hear the roar of the entire building when CJ Anderson dove in from the one-yard line on fourth down to beat the Cowboys in the playoffs. The “Cooooop” chants that punctuated the air following Cooper Kupp’s amazing catch and run against the Saints still reverberate. Our fans’ energy and excitement as they sent us off from SoFi Stadium to the Super Bowl continue to drive us. My lasting image of the Rams in the Coliseum is our smiling fans taking pictures on the field following the final game last season.

We all remember when we first became Rams fans. Maybe you became a Rams fan at the Coliseum in the 1950’s, watching Norm Van Brocklin throw four touchdown passes to “Crazy Legs” Hirsch to beat the New York Yankees. Maybe it was watching George Allen’s Fearsome Foursome dominate opponents and Deacon Jones invent the sack. Maybe it was at Anaheim Stadium as Eric Dickerson rushed for 248 yards to beat the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs or seeing the Greatest Show on Turf hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Maybe it was a moment on the couch with your family, playing touch football in the street or tailgating at the Coliseum.

All of those moments throughout Rams history that made us Ramily bring us to this day – opening SoFi Stadium, the first stadium built by the Los Angeles Rams for the Los Angeles Rams. Gone are the red seats and the feeling of living in a house that was designed for somebody else. Like all families, ours has grown and expanded, experiences have been passed down from generation to generation, and new space is needed for the future. The future includes all of us together in the world’s greatest stadium – from the largest video board to the closest seats to the field in the NFL to the first indoor/outdoor design to take advantage of Los Angeles’ envious climate.

While we won’t physically be together tonight, when the Rams take the field for the first time at SoFi Stadium, I hope you all take pride that you made this moment possible. Stan Kroenke had the vision – you helped it come to life. From booster club picnics to packed tailgates to high-fives in the stands, these all serve as a reminder of what we have built together and the power Rams football has to inspire one another.

Tonight will be our first memory, but not our last, as SoFi Stadium transforms from renderings to reality. Our new home is ready for the next generation of Rams memories, and it starts tonight against the Dallas Cowboys.

Thank you and Go Rams!

Kevin

Something Your Parents Kept From You and Pissed You OFF!

Ok, I love Mom, so lets get that straight.

I grew up in SoCal until age 12 years old and then moved away. When I was grown and married, I drove tour bus trips from NY City to LA (23 days), and it was while in Las Vegas on one such trip, that I experienced In-N-Out. It'one of the best burger chains in existence and then I found out it's a peer of McDonalds that never went National. They had them in LA when I grew up there.

"Mom, have you ever had In-N-Out?"
"Oh, they are so good!" She said.
"You ate them when living in SoCal?"
"Well, yes," she said [BUSTED}
"How come we went McDonalds a million times and never to In-N-Out?"
"Well honey, In-N-Out was more expensive, and so...." She stumbled.

Mom, yur dead to me.
