Ramsey and Taint scuffle after the game

Really hope it doesn't cost him a suspension....

What I intend focusing upon vs the Giants...

Bearing in mind that the Giants are not exactly a SB bound team...

Ram O.

This O is humming in all phases and I intend to just enjoy the ride. No worries here whatsoever, barring injury.

Ram D.

Hoo boy! Where to start? Well, the most obvious place is at edge opposite Floyd. I’m hoping that Staley will employ a rotation of players in hopes of glimpsing someone who can do the damned job. Let ‘em all get snaps at the expense of Ebu and Obo, in particular. What’s to lose? I’m particularly interested in seeing Polite. Staley’s got to find out whether he has a single decent edge on this roster, doesn’t he?

If there’s no pressure again, will Staley start dialing up blitzes before mid-3rd quarter? I know the score dictates this somewhat, but his delay killed us vs the Bills.

Will Staley keep rolling with Hill at nickel? Hill has already lost his job outside to Williams, I think. Is it time to rotate Long or Burgess in there at nickel to replace Hill? I think so. Unlike edge, I’m sure Staley has the solution to the Hill ‘hole’ already on the roster and the sooner he makes the switch, the better.

What kind of a game will Kiser have? Too much of a roller coaster season for him. I hope he settles down and has a solid game.

Will the confusion in the secondary be gone? I’m thinking it probably will be. Too many smart football loving players in that secondary to embarrass themselves again. Gulp...

Will this be the game where AD finally sees teammates stepping up and taking advantage of an OL preoccupied with AD? If so, it’s about time.

Ram ST.

Broken record, I know, but can or will Sloman have a solid game so that we can exhale on FG attempts OR kickoffs?

Will we be treated to another game watching Kupp be our designated ‘fair catcher’? And will Kupp make yet another mistake on his decision making? Geez...

All this while coaches and fans try to evaluate everything through the filter of playing a pathetic Giants team.

But, hey! It’s a meaningful Ram game live in the new palace! Can’t wait.

SNF: Eagles at 49’ers

Sunday Night Football: Philadelphia Eagles vs. San Francisco 49ers

"Sunday Night Football" features a matchup that probably looked a lot better in the preseason as the San Francisco 49ers host the Philadelphia Eagles. Both of these teams are extremely banged up, and it's only Week 4 of the NFL season. Philly rolled in this matchup 33-10 back in 2017 in a game between Carson Wentz and C.J. Beathard. The Eagles, ironically, were the one-loss team beating the winless squad, which is the opposite of this game.

Philadelphia (0-2-1) just finished the "easy" part of its schedule and doesn't have a win to speak of. The Eagles had the ball on 4th-and-long in the final minute of overtime and could have tried a long field goal or gone for it, but instead, they punted and played for the tie. Wentz is playing like a bottom-10 quarterback, and the defense just isn't getting stops right now, even against mediocre opponents. There is a real possibility that, with a loss on Sunday and upcoming games against the Steelers and Ravens, the Eagles will start the season 0-5-1.

San Francisco (2-1), meanwhile, is just glad to be out of New York. The Niners spent two straight weeks on the East Coast after dispatching the Jets and Giants, spending the week in between in West Virginia. The victories were costly, though, as their injury list grew, but head coach Kyle Shanahan was able to continue his success on offense with backups and third-stringers. The defense also took several injury hits, but that may not be as much of an issue in this game.

Sunday Night Football: Philadelphia at San Francisco

Kickoff: Sunday, Oct. 4 at 8:20 p.m. ET

TV: NBC

Spread: 49ers -7

Three Things to Watch

1. Intangibles

This is the Eagles' second road trip of the season, although it's their first time leaving the East Coast. In Week 1, they went down to Washington, D.C., so this is their first extended getaway. In Week 5, they travel to Pittsburgh, but considering this team is winless, they can't afford to overlook anyone. As mentioned above, the Niners are home for the first time in a couple of weeks. It's the start of three straight in San Francisco, with the Dolphins up next so focus won't be an issue here either.

2. The walking wounded

The injury lists for both of these teams read like a CVS receipt. We'll start with the road team, which lost offensive lineman Brandon Brooks before the season. Joining him on the sidelines are fellow offensive lineman Andre Dillard and Isaac Seumalo. Pass-catchers Dallas Goedert, Jalen Reagor, and Alshon Jeffery are out, with DeSean Jackson also not 100 percent. This leaves Wentz with the likes of John Hightower, Greg Ward, and Quez Watkins as his wide receivers. Zach Ertz would be peppered with a ton of targets, but the Niners may double him all over the field. Unfortunately, this is just more of the same for Wentz, who last season became the first quarterback to pass for 4,000 yards without any wide receiver hauling in at least 500 yards. On defense, Philly is without Vinny Curry up front and Avonte Maddox out wide.

The home team would love to have so few injuries on defense. Nick Bosa, Dee Ford, Richard Sherman, Julian Taylor, and Solomon Thomas are all unavailable with Ahkello Witherspoon, Emmanuel Moseley and Dre Greenlaw are all questionable as to whether they will be available. The offense may get some help, although Raheem Mostert, George Kittle, Jimmy Garoppolo, Deebo Samuel, and Jordan Reed are all either out or not 100 percent. Even with all the injuries, they still racked up 36 points and over 400 yards of offense in the win over the Giants.

3. Carson Wentz

Pick a category and Wentz is at or near the bottom. His 59.8 percent completion rate may have been good in years past, but that ranks 28th among qualified starters. And he's got a league-high six interceptions and has been sacked 11 times (tied for fourth-worst). His QBR ranks 31st at is 35.5, while his passer rating ranks 33rd at 63.9. According to Pro Football Focus, he has the worst rating in the league with a clean pocket. Wentz is hamstrung by a poor group of skill position players that can't stay healthy or are way too young. He's also got a coach who is calling way too many passing plays — 144 to 67 rushes — and that's unacceptable when you have Miles Sanders. Sanders failed to eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark because his coach didn't commit to the run. San Fran is really banged up, and the Eagles have to run the ball in order to keep them honest. We'll see if Wentz can get out of his slump on Sunday.

Final Analysis

The Eagles failed to pick up a win in two of their easier contests and now begin a stretch in which they take on the Niners, Steelers, and Ravens. The defense looked alright at times last week, but that was against a bad offensive line and a rookie quarterback. Nick Mullens has run Shanahan's system well enough when he's gotten the chance. The coaching staffs are the difference-maker for these two teams limping into Sunday. Give me the home squad.

Prediction: 49ers 24, Eagles 13

Game Day Thread

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember our core principles;we always show respect for our team and each other.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad. We are here for FUN, not to be dragged down.

A more loosely moderated atmosphere can be found in the chat room.

Go Rams!

Leonard Floyd is off to a strong start with the Rams, but far from satisfied

By Stu Jackson

Oct 03, 2020
Outside linebacker Leonard Floyd had 150 total tackles, 18.5 sacks, nine pass breakups and one interception in four seasons with the Bears, but Rams head coach Sean McVay suggested during training camp that those numbers didn't accurately reflect how disruptive he was to an opposing offense.

Speaking to reporters virtually toward the end of training camp in early September, Floyd had a hunch he would get a chance to prove McVay right. "Basically, it's a lot of times where I was close. I've been very close to making that play, or extra play for the team," Floyd said on Sept. 1. "It's just as simple as that. I've been close and I feel like here in L.A., I'm going to get there, if you understand what I'm saying."

As for why Floyd felt that way, he attributed that belief to a "different team, different players on the defense with me. Also, got to have faith. I believe here in L.A., I'm going to get there."

Small as the sample size may be at this stage of the season, Floyd's instincts have proved correct.Through three games, Floyd has already notched two sacks after finishing with three in 16 games in his final season in Chicago. Among Los Angeles defensive players, only defensive lineman Aaron Donald (3) has more.

The second sack came last week at Buffalo, a takedown of Bills quarterback Josh Allen which set up a second-half, touchdown-scoring drive that cut the Rams' deficit to three.

"His length, his athleticism, his ability to be able to do some different things, whether it's not just always going forward, but being able to play in coverage, I think is a winning edge for us," McVay said during a post-practice video conference with reporters Friday. "He's done a nice job and we expect him to continue on that same path that he's headed."
Donald himself has 20 pressures this season, according to Pro Football Focus. After defensive linemen Michael Brockers' eight, Floyd is tied with defensive lineman Morgan Fox for third on the team with six.

"He's just playing good ball," Donald said during a video conference with reporters Thursday. "He's stout in the run, and then when it comes to the pass rush, he's got good technique. He knows how to work different things, change up his rushes and he's taking advantage of that and making plays. That's his specialty and that's why he's here."

On paper, Floyd has a good chance to add to his total in Week 4. The Giants have allowed nine sacks, tied with the Lions and Seahawks for ninth-most allowed through the first three weeks.

For Floyd, the early production is mainly a reminder to keep up his strong effort."It's just telling me I need to continue to keep working hard and keep getting better every week," Floyd said. "Just keep going out there and playing at a high level for this team and help us win."

Newton had tested positive and that Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer will have to start against the defending Super Bowl champions, ESPN reported Saturday. The Patriots have reportedly conducted mass testing and there was no spread.

NFL ALTERS SCHEDULE AMID TITANS' CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

Newton was not listed on the team’s injury report on Friday and was not officially placed on the league’s reserve/COVID-19 list which is for players who have either tested positive for the virus or had been around someone who tested positive for the virus. Teams are prohibited from disclosing health statuses regarding the coronavirus.

Pregame Thread - Rams/Giants

Okay... with @CoachAllred starting the RECON thread... it reminds me there sometimes feels a thread is missing in our weekly routine for pregame various/stuff... the day BEFORE game day.

So, I’d like to try this weekly thread idea, and see if there is any value.

MetLife Stadium Turf [Concerns]

49ers' Raheem Mostert calls out MetLife Stadium after more players get injured: 'Shut That Field Down'

We're only three full weeks into the NFL season, but an alarming number of injuries have already occurred. It seems nearly every game has a major injury to a player and people have began pointing fingers to what could be the cause. Many are citing the lack of a preseason, an altered training camp and less conditioning as the reason.

Some are calling out a specific field. At MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and New York Jets, the turf is to blame for the multiple injuries so far this season. The Jets hosted the Denver Broncos for Thursday Night Football and that game saw another player get hurt.

Jets wide receiver Lawrence Cager was injured during New York's loss.

Denver's Noah Fant was also carted off the field due to injury at one point, but will reportedly be OK.

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert is fed up with the injuries he's seeing at MetLife and had his own bad experience on the turf, spraining his MCL in a Week 2 matchup against the Jets. He took to Twitter after Cager's injury to express his thoughts on the field, saying, "ANOTHER injury at MetLife? Shocker. The turf is horrible!! Shut that field down, @nfl."

The 49ers played at the against the Jets in Week 2 and then the Giants in Week 3. The NFL and NFLPA inspected the new turf -- which was installed at MetLife this summer -- and deemed it safe to play on earlier this season.
