By the numbers, the strategy against the Dolphins’ D is clear.

Here are some intriguing numbers:

Rams rushing offense on first and ten: 99 attempts, 566 yards, 5.7 ypc
Dolphins rushing defense on first and 10: 77 attempts, 457 yards, 5.9 ypc

Time for a heavy dose of Henderson, Brown and Akers!

If the Rams can consistently get 5+ yards running the ball on first down, Goff will be able to pick his spots, use play action, and avoid 3rd and long scenarios. That is a recipe for success!

So strap on those chin straps and prepare for some old school smash mouth football

Alpha Slasher

With Halloween just two days away I find myself in what seems like a yearly debate amongst friends. A debate on which slasher film villain is the alpha. It seemingly always comes down to Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers.

Anyone who loves slasher movies probably has an opinion on this. There are some pretty heated debates out there. Seems the majority favor Jason.

I find myself on the Myers side of the fence. And here are my reasons.

Simply, he can not die. He was cursed by a cult that made him immortal until every member of his family is dead...thats why he is always after his sister. But the catch is that he can't kill himself because he can't die so the curse will never be broken.

Jason, while stronger physically, lacks intelligence and can actually be killed by a blessed dagger and was in fact killed and sent to hell until Freddie brought his ass back.

In a straight up fight, Jason's machete would give him a great advantage over Michael's butcher knife. But he would have to put him down over and over and over again. While if Michael simply replaced his knife with the blessed dagger....its over.

I know this isn't everyone bag. But I would love to hear opinions. Even if u think something crazy like Chucky is the alpha lol

TNF: Falcons at Panthers

Thursday Night Football: Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers

The Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers are two franchises deep in rebuilding mode, heading into "Thursday Night Football" this week with a combined record of 4-10. There remains a major difference between them, though. While one team entered the year in that mindset, the other found themselves forced there following a nightmarish start.

Indeed, Atlanta had high hopes for a potential playoff run after winning six of their final eight games to close 2019. But losing their first five games of 2020 led to a change in plans, costing head coach Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff their jobs. There's been a troubling inability for this team to close out games, even under interim head coach Raheem Morris. Sunday against Detroit, running back Todd Gurley scored a touchdown by accident, putting the Falcons ahead 22-16 but providing enough time to give Detroit one final drive. The Lions made them pay, scoring a last-second touchdown to leave this team shattered at 1-6.

Now four years removed from their devastating Super Bowl defeat against New England, the Falcons have just a 25-30 record since and haven't made the postseason since 2017. Even Pro Bowlers like franchise quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones may be fighting for their futures with the team. Both were heavily rumored in trades before the team shut that down Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers know that type of misery after their own heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the Denver Broncos in 2015. Like the Falcons, they've been out of the playoffs for three years and fired head coach Ron Rivera after nose-diving to a 5-11 record in 2019.

That leaves them a bit ahead of the game. New quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has showed some promise and performed admirably with Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey sidelined. At 3-4, they've played close games against some tough opponents; every loss has come against a team that's .500 or better.

The Panthers jumped on the Falcons last month, scoring 20 unanswered points in the first half before holding on to win 23-16. Can they keep rolling against Atlanta at home? A win means a return to .500 and puts them on the outside fringe of postseason contention earlier than expected.

Thursday Night Football: Atlanta at Carolina

Kickoff: Thursday, Oct. 29 at 8:20 p.m. ET
TV: FOX/NFL Network
Spread: Panthers -2.5

Three Things To Watch

1. Will Christian McCaffrey play? What's the game plan if he doesn't?

There's a chance McCaffrey, nursing a high ankle sprain since Week 2, will finally suit up against the Falcons. The Pro Bowl running back produced 223 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in seven quarters before being forced to the sidelines.

"It's a possibility," Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said to reporters about McCaffrey's return. "It's sort of out of my hands, but I'm hopeful that we will have him."

Should Carolina even try and get him ready given the short week? That's debatable. In McCaffrey's absence, the Panthers have focused on their passing attack, jumping to 11th in the league by averaging 263.7 yards per game. Bridgewater is posting 8.2 yards per attempt, tied for sixth in the league, and hasn't been afraid to throw the ball deep to wide receivers Robby Anderson and DJ Moore.

The Falcons should know how dangerous they are; Moore burned the defense for a 57-yard touchdown in Week 5 while Anderson had eight catches for 112 yards. Atlanta's pass defense ranks 31st in the NFL and is allowing 8.46 yards per pass play (dead last). Things haven't gotten any better since the teams' last meeting in Week 5.

That's why McCaffrey may spend one more week resting up. The rushing attack has been serviceable, even though the Panthers have yet to produce a 100-yard rusher with him sidelined. Replacement Mike Davis was plenty good enough against the Falcons, totaling just shy of 150 yards total offense.

But if McCaffrey’s healthy... he's a special type of talent. His presence would add another dimension the Falcons simply don't have the defensive personnel to manage.

2. Can Matt Ryan take advantage of a leaky Panthers defense?

The Falcons might not be able to stop a Panthers offense and a red-hot Bridgewater. But a shootout? That's another matter altogether. It's why Carolina lost to New Orleans 27-24 Sunday after allowing the Saints to score on five of their first six drives. They were 6-for-6 on third-down conversions in the first half while capitalizing on red zone opportunities.

The Panthers have already lost Pro Bowl co-captain Kawann Short to a season-ending shoulder injury. Up to four more starters on defense have shuffled in and out in recent weeks due to injury and COVID-19 protocols. It's left the defense ranked a middling 13th in the league while allowing a whopping 415 yards to the Saints last week.

On paper, you'd think Matt Ryan would be able to tear the defense apart. He's got a tantalizing list of targets, from young Calvin Ridley to veteran Jones and even running back Gurley. He leads the NFL with 2,181 passing yards through seven games.

Yet against Carolina in Week 5, he just couldn't get going, producing a season-low 226 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. The 35-year-old has also been busy this week reiterating how much he loves Atlanta after those aforementioned trade rumors. Add in Sunday's heartbreaker and he'll need to refocus quickly for Thursday night.

3. Which team will learn how to close?

The Panthers have the look of a young team learning on the job. Bridgewater had an incredible game against the Saints, going 23-for-28 for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and a season-high 128.3 passer rating. But a key sack in crunch time caused an eight-yard loss and forced Rhule to try a longshot, 65-yard field goal to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. The attempt fell short, as did the Panthers' chance at a comeback.

The Falcons know that feeling far too well. Three times this season, the Falcons have blown a game where their ESPN win probability reached 98 percent. The other 31 NFL teams combined have done that a total of four times.

Last week's loss was the most frustrating considering Gurley was told not to score. Kneeling at the one-yard line would have set up a chip shot field goal and given Morris, the interim coach, two straight wins and momentum. Instead? Gurley faceplanted at the edge of the end zone, and the Falcons give the impression of a team in freefall and in position to sell heavily at the trade deadline.

Final Analysis

Bridgewater is leading the Panthers back to respectability much quicker than initially expected. The Falcons are plummeting into the NFC South basement... and that was quite unexpected.

Unfortunately for them, there's nothing here likely to change the narrative and not enough time to recover from Sunday's emotional knockout. If McCaffrey somehow suits up and plays, this game could get ugly.

Prediction: Panthers 34, Falcons 20

Jared Goff "First Seven Games" & Career Stats

Jared Goff "First Seven Games" & Career Stats

new-team.jpg

Los Angles Rams quarterback Jared Goff has a QB Rating of 102.4 after his first 7 games.

His 102.4 rating is the second best Jared has had after 7 games. 2018 was his best rating after the first seven games.

Goff's career has been a jigsaw puzzle of various opinions from the NFL media, game announcers and fans of the gridiron sport.

The Rams field general has been closely analyzed with altering views of his talent being discussed on many levels.

Some of the labels that he's been called are the common repeated ones like "game manager" & "system quarterback."

Most opinions concur that Jared has plenty of arm talent but there are many in the NFL world that view him as merely an above average quarterback.

Regardless of anyone's personal perception of him, Jared is having a good season so far.

If he continues to get better as he's shown, this could be the best one of his career.

Jared Goff's 2020 story is still being written.

And if he's as good of a quarterback as some believe he is, there very well might be a magical ending at the end of it.

Halloween Videos

Idk me and my buddies are getting a bit stir crazy with bars not being open and what not. We used to do some comedy stuff before everything closed down. Thought I'd share this little spat of videos we've made for Halloween. Just a couple funny videos to make you laugh maybe? I showed my family, so I figured I'd also share with the ROD family here.

Hope you all are doing well during this crazy year.

My least favorite play from Chicago game

3 and 4 -
play call - Quick Hit to Everette
I like the call. Get the ball to your big athletic TE.
Everette can make it difficult for a corner or safety type,to bring him down before
he drags them 4 yards.

But when the Rams lineup ,the defensive formation should tell you
very quickly that this is the wrong play
The bears lineup with a wide 9 end that makes Havensteins block almost impossible.
They have a Backer/hybrid lined up right behind the 3 technique.

Two defenders that the offense can't account for.Maybe the backer blitzes, but
the wide nine is still there.
The Rams are unbalanced, strong to the left with play going right.
Everthing about this play presnap says it's the wrong call.
On 3and 4 , why are we not calling a timeout or audibling ?

This frame is taken the second Everette touches the ball.

Last two frames. watch Woods destroy this CB

If I'm wrong, let me know.. Never too old to learn.
I just think that this is a call (especially on 3rd and short) that you have to get out of.

Johnny Mundt once again steps up vs. Bears

Oct 28, 2020 at 11:31 Am Stu Jackson, Staff Writer

Last year, it was stepping up as a run blocker. This year, as a pass catcher. Like last season, the Rams counted on tight end Johnny Mundt to make the most of an expanded role against the Bears, and he delivered once again with three receptions for 47 yards in a 24-10 Week 7 win at SoFi Stadium.

"Johnny Mundt is a guy that we have a lot of faith in," Rams quarterback Jared Goff said during his postgame video conference. "We said this earlier in the week when we had an idea he was going to have to play, but last year against the Bears he had to step up and play a lot too. This guy's ready for the Bears at all times."

With Tyler Higbee inactive due to a hand injury sustained against the 49ers in Week 6, Mundt saw his heaviest involvement in the offense to date, playing 64 percent of the team's offensive snaps (46 of 72). By comparison, he had played a combined 27 offensive snaps through the first six games, including two or fewer in four of those six contests.

The impact of the increased playing time was evident on his 34-yard reception midway through the second quarter, when he unsuccessfully tried to stiff arm Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller on the run. "Didn't really connect as much as I wanted to, he went a little lower than I expected, but getting used to the NFL football in my hands, so it was fun," Mundt said during his postgame video conference. As Goff alluded to, Mundt has been a difference maker against the Bears this year and last year.

The Rams were leaning more heavily on the 12 personnel grouping – one running back, two tight ends – toward the end of last season, and that philosophical change overlapped with last year's game against Chicago. Deployed as a run blocker, he helped Los Angeles' offense rush for 110 yards and two touchdowns in a 17-7 L.A. victory, later earning praise from Rams head coach Sean McVay.

Since he's primarily utilized as a blocker, Mundt entered the game with six receptions for 36 receiving yards through 31 career games, making Monday night quite the contrast to the work he's accustomed to getting in the passing game – especially considering how involved he was in that facet of the offense in college (23 receptions for 334 yards and four touchdowns in his final year at the University of Oregon).

Getting back to how he was used at Oregon was a welcome change of pace for him."They like the way I block, how physical I am on the point of the attack, so they like to use me in that aspect," Mundt said. "But it's always nice to show my skills with the ball in my hand."

McVay was pleased with the way Mundt stepped up. "Missing Tyler Higbee tonight is a huge loss for a football team," McVay said during his postgame video conference. "But Johnny Mundt stepped up, did a great job."

Jalen Ramsey

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has noticed that he has been getting beat quite a bit. Luckily Foles missed on deep targets against him. He seems to be trying to make a splash play and it seems his technique is suffering. He does make big plays in games, but his “guessing” is going to bite us one day. Only me or does anyone else have this feeling about his play?

Scoring The Game LOSING TD

AR-201029459.jpg&Maxw=800&q=62.jpg

Here are my thoughts on this...

The anonymous Ram staff member who said that Gurley can no longer put his foot in the dirt and change direction at all... well that seems to be completely confirmed on that play.

Or worse... He just doesn't give enough of a fuck to care one bit about winning or losing anymore. Remember, it's been confirmed that everyone was told NOT TO SCORE A TD right before the play happened.

What a mess that was. It's really hard to believe almost. I gotta say... I loved him as a Ram, but I'm happy he's gone now.

On to Miami - Up next, Dolphins

Taking a peek over at their message boards quite a few of them are saying we're gonna be the sleepy rams coming in.I think the opposite because we are use to the long travels from the early season games.Wondering what you guys think on how we're gonna approach the game against them.Do we come out and blitz the rookie right away or stand firm and expect alot of running plays from them to protect tua to ease him into the game.

Terrell Burgess out for remainder of 2020 season with broken ankle

McVay: Terrell Burgess out for remainder of 2020 season with broken ankle

Rookie safety Terrell Burgess will miss the rest of the 2020 season after sustaining a broken ankle against the Bears, Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters during a video conference Monday night. Burgess is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday.

"It's a shame, because he was doing so well in really both phases, defense and special teams," McVay said during a video conference Tuesday evening. "But he's got a really bright future."

A third-round pick out of the University of Utah in this year's draft, Burgess suffered the injury early in the fourth quarter after tackling Bears running back David Montgomery and was carted off the field. He had tallied three combined tackles on defense and another two on special teams in the contest prior to the injury. Overall, he posted eight combined tackles and one pass breakup in seven games this year.

McVay said what they do with that open roster spot as a result of Burgess' injury is "kind of to be determined based on how the week unfolds."

"And then you still have the availability of being able to bring somebody up on your practice squad, even if it's just for a game, depending on the approach that we want to take against the Dolphins," McVay said.

Updating the status of another rookie safety, McVay said Jordan Fuller "is doing really well" and that the plan is still for him to return from short-term injured reserve after the Rams' Week 9 bye.

"To be able to get Jordan back will be a good boost for us, especially with what happened to Terrell last night," McVay said.

McVay also said the team plans to activate defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson to the 53-man roster this week. McVay is also hopeful tight end Tyler Higbee's hand "turns the corner" and he's able to play this week against the Dolphins.

Bad news for the rest of the NFL

So the Rams have played the NFC East, which was such an easy schedule.

And the offense has performed slightly worse through 7 games than McVays previous teams - further examination of our schedule shows why:

5/7 teams are too 12 in yards per play allowed - three of them are Philly, NYG and Washington and at first glance, you may question that and ask why not use PPG allowed?

Because those teams offenses are so bad, they've given up points - but yards per play allowed is more of an indication for how the defenses have performed. The only caveat being they have played each other, which might be inflating the defensive stats - but the they've all done pretty well on defense outside of those games too.

We have the Bucs and Niners left who are good in this category - but the AFC East teams and Seattle are really bad, and the Cardinals are 13th. So we have seven games left whose defenses are arguably worse than five of our first seven opponents - I think the offense will struggle with Tampa but other than, starting this week, will explode. Miami gives up 5.0 yards per carry...

Austin MacGinnis signed to PS

Yes! Sloman waived and probably will not return. Rams sign Austin MacGinnis who should have been the kicker from day one. Nice to see the Rams backstopping Forbath with a legit kicker. IMO if MacGinnis looks good on the PS he will have an inside track to the kicker position next year. He has better range than Forbath.

Sofi at night

The last couple of Rams home night games have got me thinking. Has anyone notice how dark and gloomy Sofi looks at dusk. The people at Sofi never turn on the outside lights! The only thing lit up is the big "Sofi Stadium" on the roof. You would think all the outside building lights would be turned on to show off some of what 5 billion will get ya to the viewing public. Just an observation. GO RAMS!!!

How many all-time Rams are on the current roster?

How many of the current Rams are/will be on the franchise's all-time roster?

Already There:

Aaron Donald: Cracking the all-time DL list for the Rams is no small feat, but I think Donald has surpassed players like Larry Brooks and Rosey Grier to secure a space with HOFers Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen and Jack Youngblood on the Rams all-time squad.

Johnny Hekker: Not only is he the Rams' all-time punter, he could be in the conversation for the NFL's all-time best before he finishes his career. His 184 career passing yards (producing 13 first downs and a TD) are a bonus!

Have a Chance:

Jared Goff: Sure, he has some great players to surpass in Kurt Warner, Norm Van Brocklin, Roman Gabriel, Jim Everett... but given his age (26) and the inflated passing numbers in today's game, he could retire with all of the Rams' passing records. If he adds a ring or two to his resume...

Jalen Ramsey
Another one who has a lot of years of resume building before he can enter the conversation, but from a talent standpoint, he could enter the conversation. Its nice to have him signed for what will be his prime. I also think that, with his size and physicality, he could transition to safety later in his career.

Tyler Higbee: This one is the product of an exceedingly low bar. Who is the top one now? Pete Holohan (3,981 career receiving yards)? If Higbee plays out his contract and continues his level of production, he may make the list almost by default.

Great Players, but... not All-time Best:

Robert Woods/Cooper Kupp: Way too long a line at WR: Elroy Hirsch, Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, Henry Ellard, Flipper Anderson, Harold Jackson. Still... glad to have these guys locked up for the next few seasons.

Andrew Whitworth: You have to appreciate his level of play in the latter years of his career, but no way he overtakes Orlando Pace and Jackie Slater.
