Blur the line between 11 and 12 Personnel

@jrry32 @Merlin

Just re-watching the Patriots game and had a thought and wanted to pose a question.
I directed this question toward jrry32 and Merlin for obvious reasons, but want to hear
input from anyone who may have a thought on it.

Question- Is there a player coming up in the draft or an attainable player in the NFL
who would truly be a hybrid TE/WR?
In other words a player capable of filling the roll of a TE in the 12 and a WR in 11

I was just thinking how valuable a player that could be. To be able to go from 11 to 12
without substitution,

Jrry32 have you seen anyone coming up from the college ranks that would fit that criteria
and Merlin, Jrry32 do you think this would be as advantageous as I do? Or am I missing a reason
that would make this a empty idea.

McVay not committing to Cam Akers being Rams' workhorse RB

For the majority of this season, the Los Angeles Rams have utilized a true committee approach at running back. Some weeks, Darrell Henderson got the bulk of the touches. Others, it was Malcolm Brown doing the heavy lifting.
Cam Akers was typically the odd man out, seeing very limited playing time in the first half of the season. However, that’s changed in a big way the last two games. He carried it 21 times in Week 13 against the Cardinals, and then on Thursday night against the Patriots, he was handed the ball 29 times and gained 171 yards.

It was a pleasant surprise to see Akers get such a big workload, especially for those who started him in their fantasy playoffs. But it may not be a trend that continues each week. Sean McVay was non-committal on Akers being the workhorse back moving forward, saying the Rams still want to use Henderson and Brown.
“I think you still want to be able to utilize those guys. I think Malcolm and Darrell are both very valuable parts of what we do,” he said Friday. “It was Cam’s night last night. I do think Cam is capable of that, but as far as how we move forward, I think what’s important for us is capitalizing on all the different playmakers that we do have. Certainly, Cam did a great job last night, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t see opportunities for Darrell and Malcolm moving forward because both of those players have done a lot of really good things that have been helpful in our success as a team. So, very pleased. I think we know Cam is capable of that, but to say that we would commit to that approach, I don’t necessarily think that’s the exact thing that we’re thinking. I think we’re really pleased with Cam and not surprised though.”
There is obviously plenty of coach speak in that response from McVay, so as not to tip his hand. He shouldn’t be expected to come out and divulge what the Rams’ plan is exactly, which may give upcoming opponents a competitive advantage.
Henderson has earned at least a handful of touches each week, too. After all, he was the No. 1 running back according to Pro Football Focus earlier in the season when he was getting most of the carries.
McVay is well aware of the skill sets that Brown and Henderson possess, and the way they can create mismatches on offense in their specific roles. For that reason, McVay wants to keep the offense “multiple” and force defenses to adapt without being able to focus solely on one runner.
“He was the hot hand,” McVay said of Akers. “I think you guys have seen it, last night that approach worked for us, but we’ve seen games each of the last, really over the last month, where all three of those guys have gotten involved and that’s been really good for our offense as well. So, I think the more multiple and the more versatile that you can be and really take advantage of the playmakers that we do have offensively, I think that’s our job as coaches. Then sometimes, you guys have heard me say this going back to even training camp, each game there could be a different approach in a lot of that is predicated on the feel for the flow of the game. Last night Cam got into a rhythm right away and we kind of just felt like he was the hot hand and decided to go with that. It was a real positive for our team last night.”
Fantasy owners will have a close eye on everything McVay says about Akers leading up to Week 15 against the Jets, especially with it being such a favorable matchup for the Rams’ running backs. His comments Friday threw cold water on the idea of Akers being a workhorse, but again, that could simply be him not wanting to tip his hand to opponents.

You Gave Up What ???, For Jalen Ramsey

You Gave Up What ???, For Jalen Ramsey

When Les gave up those #1's I was stunned. I thought it may have been a bit much.
The media , to put it lightly ... Scoffed.
The Quote of the day was " The Rams gave up way, way too much for Jalen Ramsey"

But now I see what I was so ignorantly blind to, at the time.
I see Les's vision of not just bringing in a potentially great player. no
That would still make giving 2 number ones debatable.

What Les has done is put together the F***ing Avengers.
Putting Jalen in the same locker room with Aaron has helped to bring out the absolute best Jalen Ramsey.
And created a Duo that every player on this defense feeds off of, and their level of play rises as proof.
Oh did I mention that McSnead also brought in Professor X to lead this machine.

Look out, L.A.: Rams' defense gaining momentum as playoffs approach

Look out, L.A.: Rams' defense gaining momentum as playoffs approach - NFC West- ES

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- There was no way Kenny Young was going to run out of steam as he looked ahead to the end zone.
With cornerback Jalen Ramsey blocking and defensive tackle Aaron Donald directing traffic, the Los Angeles Rams linebacker sprinted 79 yards to return an interception for a touchdown in a 24-3 victory over the New England Patriots on "Thursday Night Football.

""That's my favorite play of the game because you see two of the best players in the world out in front blocking for him and the genuine joy," Rams coach Sean McVay said."All I felt was a bunch of guys running behind me blocking and us trying to get the score," Young said. "And that felt pretty good to know my brothers was behind my back."

The Rams' defense has been dominant this season and the catalyst for a 9-4 record that has them atop the NFC West with three games remaining.

Part of their growth has been through scheme and technique, but players say they've also experience a galvanizing effect navigating an unusual season in mostly empty arenas, including SoFi Stadium, amid the coronavirus pandemic."You have no fans, you have nothing else, so it's all about ball and you see how connected a team is," defensive lineman Michael Brockers said. "So without fans, we're doing a helluva job continuing to have our energy up. We actually like and love one another."

Under first-year coordinator Brandon Staley, the defense ranks second in the NFL in efficiency and has allowed only 18.9 points per game, which ranks third behind the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins. Recently, that unit has dialed up the turnovers and defensive scores.

In the first eight games of the season, the Rams had 10 takeaways, which ranked in the middle of the league. But over the past five games, they've produced 11 turnovers, which ranks second during that span and vaults them to the No. 2 spot overall behind the Steelers and tied with the Dolphins.

And in each of the past three games, the defense has returned a turnover for a touchdown, becoming the first team to accomplish such a feat this season and the first Rams defense to score three touchdowns in three games since 2003."We've been getting our hands on a lot of balls in practice as far as tips and overthrows and picks and stuff like that and we've been returning them in practice," said Brockers, who had his first multisack game of the season against the Patriots. "It's all about the work that we put in during the week of practice, and that gives us the confidence to go out here and play lights out."

in the first quarter, Rams quarterback Jared Goff threw an interception, and the Patriots, trailing 10-0, were approaching scoring position from the Rams' 19-yard line. Young's instinct kicked in and he picked off quarterback Cam Newtonand scored, putting the Rams up 17-0."Honestly, seeing Cam, he's a big guy so you can't miss him, so just his whole mannerisms showed that he was about to throw a screen," Young said. "So I just jumped as he threw a bad ball and he paid for that."
The interception was the first of Young's three-year career."What a swing in momentum," McVay said.

The Rams' defensive front also kept the pressure on the Patriots, holding them to 107 rushing yards, down from the Pats' 147.5 average. And they forced Patriots coach Bill Belichick to replace Newton in the fourth quarter with Jarrett Stidham.

The Rams sacked Newton four times and took Stidham down twice. Their 42 sacks this season ranks second behind the Steelers' 44. When asked if the defense was peaking at an opportune time, Brockers provided an analogy he deemed more appropriate."I wouldn't want to say we peaked, because after a peak you are going downhill," Brockers said. "We are continuing to just keep climbing, getting better and just keep staying consistent each and every week."

If given the option, should we start with the ball on offense... as opposed to defer?

Personally... I have always preferred to start on defense. Settle in, yada yada. Start with the ball 2nd half.

But... with a defense like ours, can we take better control of games, getting a lead first?

This is a dangerous team with a lead. Should we consider ”betting on ourselves offensively with the ball first”... knowing that scoring first..... really let’s the defense pin it’s ears back and take over.

On top of that reason... with limited away crowd noise, the “energy” to settle down at the start of a game is less on the road than normal... so grabbing and setting tone home and on the road is about the same.

Interesting to think about.

Game plan; Get lead. Smash them defensively. Add to the lead. Game over.

Football is so easy.

The Fake Interception

1. Woods has possession of the Ball while standing up.
2. Woods still has possession of the ball when his butt and legs are on the Ground.
3. The defender does NOT have hands near the ball AT ALL.
4. The Defender has TOUCHED WOODS while on the ground IN POSSESSION OF THE BALL.

O-line

I always had faith that my evaluations of the o-line was correct. I saw the makings of a very solid unit. The talent is there, it simply needed to be used correctly and not in the haphazard way it was cobbled together last year. I was just watching a replay of Kupp's TD and it was Corbett making the key block allowing Goff to make the throw. Corbett is one of the more underrated guys on this unit. He was an important part of this o-line beginning to come together last year.

This line has actually exceeded my expectations in that I saw it as a solidly good unit. But these guys are showing that they can be much more. We all knew this team would only go offensively as far as the o-line could go. I don't think they are anywhere near where they could be. I do think they need to reshuffle some of the guys and bench their weak link i.e. Havenstein.

With Whitworth likely to return to the active roster, it would be a shame to bench Noteboom as he has been playing very well. But I could definitely see them moving Boom to RT until Whit actually retires. IMO Havenstein is gone next year anyway and he's been a major weak link in this unit all year just as he was last year. As we saw when Blythe got pushed into Goff and Jared took a hit on his face mask, Blythe simply isn't the caliber player this unit needs at center. I really think Shelton will take over next year.

Regardless, the o-line has proven that there is unquestioned talent there and that they are good enough to put that Lombardi within reach.

“Go Ahead and Overlook Them” - Rich Eisen on the Rams’ Dominant Win vs Pats

Wanted give this it's own thread, Because this is the first time I have heard someone

This is about what is Right about the Rams.

What Patriot Fans Are Saying

I have to conclude that Patriot fans are dumb as a box of bricks. They have little creativity and don't know how to be wicked funny!

What a difference in 24 hrs

Yesterday some people were picking the Hags to win the west based on supposed ease of schedule, today I hear a show speculating who the rams will play in the nfc title game. The Rams are in the driver’s seat but it’s not a done deal, even though it’s the Rams who seem to have the easier remaining schedule although division games are unpredictable. The Hags must beat the rams or it’s over but Washington is no pushover.

The 2nd celebration thread!

Sorry mods but I'm fucking PUMPED!

Shit week at work. Recorded the game because I basically started my commute when it was due to finish. Sat down with a pizza and about a billion beers and watched THAT?! Without knowing the score?

HELL FUCKING YEAH!

Ps Billy B, go fuck yourself.

Ppps I love Sean McVay.

Can Akers reach 1,000 yards?

Ok, ok, I *might* be still a little high on Kool Aid after last night's evisceration of the Pats, but still....
It sure seems like Akers has begun taking over the majority of the carries in this offense and seemingly will continue to do so.
So... is 1,000 yards possible?
He's currently at 528, leaving quite a delta of 472 yards, or 157 per game for the last 3.
BUT
He's rolling to the tune of 5.6 YPC since taking over the snaps. At that rate, he'd need 85 carries in the last 3 games to do it.
Frankly, I dont know if he'll need that many.
The Jets just suck, and after they get rolled by the Seahawks, they will be totally done.
I could see him rolling up a monster number, chasing that "rookie single game record", then getting a fair share of carries in the last 2 games, clinching division and hopefully clinching #2 seed

20 Random Running Down a Dream Thoughts

1. Beat Tom Brady and make national media question his future. CHECK!

2. Beat Patriots and all but end their playoff hopes. CHECK!

3. Cam Akers' night was a joy to watch. The difference between the way he is finding holes, reading blocks and finishing runs now, as compared to the start of the season, is night and day. The fact that he has relatively fresh legs is a bonus for the stretch run!

4. I won't write off Darryl Henderson, though. With Cam's success, and DH apparently being a bit banged up, his role was very small yesterday. After 10 days rest, though, I expect him to provide a 1-2 punch.

5. When Jared Goff's performance is a mere footnote, its a safe bet that the Rams won.

6. That's not to say that Goff can't carry the team at times. We've seen it. But its great that he does not always have to do so.

7. With our Jordan (Aaron Donald) and Pippin (Jalen Ramsey) on drawing so much attention and playing so well on defense, the Paxons (Kenny Young) and Kerrs (Brockers) of the world are getting a chance to shine!

8. I do think that Sebastian Joseph-Day and Brockers are underrated pieces of a great defense. Both are playing very well this year.

9. The Red Zone defense last night was outstanding.

10. Its amazing how consistent this defense has been this year. Apart from few bad quarters against the Bills and the first game against the 49ers, the defense has really never looked outmatched.

11. Now that its scoring points (3 TDs in 3 weeks)... look out!

12. Joe Noteboom has been solid, but the idea of a healthy (and fresh legged) Andrew Whitworth coming out of the tunnel for a playoff game is exciting.

13. Henderson/Akers now are a combined 234 rushes, 1,092 yards, 4.7 ypc, 7 rushing TDs.

14. Meanwhile, Todd Gurley has a 3.6 ypc (626 yards). I always liked Gurley (despite some of his odd comments, demeanor), but its pretty clear that moving on from him was the right decision.

15. I'm really glad we signed Matt Gay.

16. Last offseason, many debated the question of who should be re-signed: Dante Fowler or Cory Littleton. The Rams chose neither and found replacements in Leonard Floyd and Micah Kiser/Troy Reeder. Next offseason, we'll find ourselves debating whether to re-sign Floyd or John Johnson. Perhaps, history will repeat itself (particularly with the possibility of a lower cap).

17. The Front Office will get headlines for big moves like trading for Ramsey, but some of the smaller moves, such as drafting David Edwards (5th round) and trading for Austin Corbett (for a 5th round pick) deserve praise as well.

18. I have to say, as a fan, that I really appreciate how hard the NFL has worked to keep the game going in the midst of the pandemic. This season has been a great distraction and a continuation of normalcy during a difficult time.

19. Happy Chanukah to fellow MOTs! The name "Maccabee" loosely translates to "hammer." Well, on the first night of Chanukah, the Rams certainly hammered the Pats!

20. This stretch run is going to be fun!
