5 Thoughts After Eagles (the sky isn't falling, don't worry)

1. The Eagles are a damn good team. Their lines on both sides are big and powerful, so this was a tough matchup for us. We got dominated on both lines...after the 1st 2 drives Stafford had no time to throw and we couldn't run the ball. There was a point in the 3rd quarter where I said to myself, the Eagles are just clearly the better team and I don't think I've ever said that in the McVay era. With that said...

2. The sky isn't falling. Luckily our division is very tight and we're just 1 game back of first place, if we can keep improving and learn from this game then we still have a solid chance of making the playoffs.

3. Our OLine needs work. This was supposed to be a strength of the team but our guys struggled. Going 1 by 1:
- AJackson: I feel like he played well overall but gave up some wide pressures. I need to watch him more closely to say whether we need to target a LT early in the draft next year.
- Avila: he is supposed to be a stud but he had a terrible game. Hopefully it was an off-game because the Eagles have some monster DTs. He's still a building block for us.
- Limmer: see what I said about Avila.
- Dotson: I think he was our best OL and a building block.
- McClendon: he struggled mightily and with Big Rob getting older, we may need to look for the heir apparent.

4. Our DLine got bullied. The Eagles could basically run at will against us. I told my friends watching that if I were the Eagles OC, I would basically run every play if I could. And I believe the Eagles ran 44 plays vs 22 passes. I like our young guys but here's what I'd like to see in an ideal world:
- Byron Young: this may be an unpopular opinion but I'd prefer him being our 3rd OLB in the rotation to come in on passing downs. And no I'm not saying Hoecht should start ahead of him but bringing someone in the offseason.
- Big DT: I know we have Bobby Brown but I'd like to see a big 330+ lbs DT in the middle of that defense that can anchor. Not sure Brown can do that and our other DTs in Fiske and Turner are on the smaller side.

I know it's just one game but this has been on my mind all season.

5. 3rd downs are a problem. Going 0 for 8 on 3rd downs is unacceptable, and I would give them a pass since the Eagles pass rush was killing us but it's been a trend all year. I'm not sure how to fix that but it starts with better execution.

Time to look to the draft???

There is just no way to see any other option. This team cannot compete with upper level teams.

The oline cannot protect Stafford and cannot run block well enough to run the ball down other teams throats like the Eagles did tonight.

OT has got to be a priority. Havenstein isn’t getting any younger and Jackson is a stop gap.

Avila gets a pass this year but he better get stronger over the off-season.

Limmer is good enough to get another look at center.

The man of glass needs to go. We have to keep Jackson for depth and hope he has a big turn around next year. The rest of them are practice squad fodder at best.

They better spend some draft capital here or next year will be just as bad.

Game Day Thread

The GDT is a live thread tradition here at ROD.

While we all get fired up watching the game, please remember our core principles; we always show respect for our team and each other.

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and each other.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad. We are here for FUN, not to be dragged down.

A more loosely moderated atmosphere can be found in the chat room.

Go Rams!

Report: Aaron Rodgers wants to play in 2025, but not for the Jets

Report: Aaron Rodgers wants to play in 2025, but not for the Jets

It could be the next shot in the cold war turned hot between the Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Days after reports emerged that Jets owner Woody Johnson suggested benching Rodgers after a Week 4 loss to the Broncos, Dianna Russini of TheAthletic.com reports that Rodgers, who said 10 days ago that he wants to play in 2025, does not want to play for the Jets in 2025.

And so the foundation is fully in place for Rodgers’s two-pronged, post-bye media blitz. Pat McAfee and A.J. Hawk will ask Rodgers about it on Tuesday. Rodgers will grumble and mumble about media leaks before possibly saying something substantive on the question of whether he wants to keep playing for the Jets, in the future or now. Then, on Wednesday, he’ll have his usual press conference, where he might (or might not) be asked pointed and repeated questions about recent developments and reports.

Regardless, it’s becoming more and more clear that it’s over for the Jets and Rodgers. The only remaining question is whether he’ll be placed on injured reserve, whether he’ll be benched, whether he’ll play out the string, and whether he’ll be cut.

With the Giants releasing Daniel Jones, Rodgers might want the same thing — if they’re thinking about benching him. Maybe, in what would be his final act as de facto G.M., Rodgers can get receiver Davante Adams released too.

  • Poll Poll
Jared Verse or Quinyon Mitchell?

Looking back, would you draft Verse or Mitchell?

  • Keep Verse, he's a baller and the new face of the defense!

    Votes: 39 59.1%
  • Our corners suck! Draft Mitchell and get an edge afterwards

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • Both players are good, we'll be fine either way

    Votes: 6 9.1%
  • This poll is pointless

    Votes: 21 31.8%

This will be a fun pair to watch. Pre draft, a group of us were campaign for him to be our first pick and others wanted an edge rusher. Both players are having outstanding years and are on the way to being future superstars of the league. This game could affect the DPOTY race.

My question is, looking back at the draft and knowing how both players have excelled so far, would you still keep Verse or would you have rather drafted Mitchell instead? It's possible that Mitchell will make the Pro Bowl this year before Verse, but taking into account that edge rushers need more time to develop than corners, I would still take Verse and draft a plug-and-play corner to join him as he's entering his prime.

Let's revisit after the game as well.

Gameday Menu Thread

Tonight has a menu of The Rock's cheat day pancakes and Snoop Dog's billionaire bacon. I wanted something else but significant other had (other) plans.

I was just thinking Sunday night probably deserves a pretty good meal.

NFL issues security alert to teams/players

Yikes, was wondering if more was going on after I saw about the multiple burglaries of high profile players back to back. They are nonconfrontational but that's because they do it when no one is home. Hopefully it stays that way at least. Also, lets not get political about this. Just posting news.

NFL issues security alert to teams regarding recent home burglaries

The NFL issued a security alert to team security directors and the players' union Wednesday about organized and skilled criminals that are increasingly targeting the homes of professional athletes, including the recent burglaries of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, according to the memo obtained by NFL.com.
Sources say the FBI is investigating the crime wave as international organized crime. The league, the NFL Players Association and team security forces also have been monitoring the crime spree, which is believed to be tied to a South American crime syndicate. At least one other current NFL player's home was burglarized in the past week.
"It's legit," said one source familiar with the situation. "It's a transnational crime ring, and over the last three weeks, they've focused on NBA and NFL players, and it's all over the country."
Citing longstanding Department of Justice policy, a spokesperson for the FBI Office of Public Affairs declined to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation and had no further comment.
The homes of Mahomes and Kelce were burglarized on consecutive days last month in the Kansas City area. The Minnesota home of former Vikings defensive tackle Linval Joseph, who now plays for the Dallas Cowboys, was part of a series of burglaries last weekend, according to police.
Multiple people with knowledge of the crimes said the perpetrators are nonconfrontational and do not burglarize homes while residents are inside. Instead, they use public records to find players' addresses and conduct extensive surveillance. Then, by tracking team schedules and the social media accounts of players and their families, they wait until homes are empty -- often during games -- and gain access and quickly steal items such as cash, jewelry, watches and handbags, focusing mainly on master bedrooms and closets.
The alert issued on Wednesday by NFL Security confirmed the modus operandi and offered a number of recommendations, including not posting in real time on social media, installing security systems and keeping valuables out of plain sight.
