Could Big Whitt save Isaiah Wilson?

Isaiah Wilson is clearly a fucking idiot. But, he is a fucking idiot with a TON of talent. If we could lock him up for a few years on the cheap and glue him to Big Whitt....could he save his career? Could we find a future starter there? He is going to be cheap. Why not try? Buy. If so, I lock him up for a few years. Not only one. In case he turns it around I don't want him to walk.

Just a thought. What say you? Can he be saved? Who better to help him turn it around?

Rams Report: How they look with free agents gone, draft ahead

Rams Report: How they look with free agents gone, draft ahead

The NFL salary cap and draft ensure that every team, even the league’s best and worst, is some combination of strengths and weaknesses.

The Rams have battled the salary cap in the first week of free agency, and now begin to home in on the three-day draft that begins April 29 (although the first of their six picks doesn’t come up until the second round on April 30).

As the Rams restructured enough veterans’ contracts to get under this year’s lower cap by last Wednesday’s deadline, the lack of spending room kept them from signing any new players so far, allowed them to re-sign only one of their unrestricted free agents (again, so far) while letting eight go, and prompted them to trade one of the stalwarts of their defense.

It’s a funny way to begin a year when the Rams are thought to be all-in to win the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium next February. But they’re confident they’re better at the most important position, quarterback. And they think they have the depth and smarts to patch leaks elsewhere.

Time for a progress report, if progress is the word.

Here’s a position-by-position look at where the Rams are good to go, where they have work to do, and where the past week leaves them with question marks.

GOOD TO GO

Quarterback:
General manager Les Snead thinks the Rams went “from good to great” at the position when the Jared Goff-for-Matthew Stafford trade became official Thursday, and Stafford said he welcomes the pressure. John Wolford, back to being the backup, is signed through 2021.

Running back: With Cam Akers becoming a clear No. 1 late in his rookie season and young Darrell Henderson No. 2, the issue is how to replace Malcolm Brown after the veteran signed with the Dolphins. Snead has expressed confidence in Xavier Jones, who played on special teams as an undrafted rookie.

Outside linebacker: Re-signing Leonard Floyd (four years, up to $64 million) was the Rams’ most positive move of the week, making up for losing free-agent Samson Ebukam to the 49ers. Terrell Lewis’ injury issues mean they probably must draft again for this group.

NEEDS WORK

Offensive line:
If the Rams re-sign free-agent center Austin Blythe, the unit can return intact after a much-improved season, with some young backups standing ready as well. Left tackle Andrew Whitworth, who turns 40 on Dec. 12, looks as if he’ll stay for the second season of a three-year contract after restructuring his deal this week.

Cornerback: Free agent Troy Hill’s departure to the Browns leaves a hole opposite Jalen Ramsey. Darious Williams, a restricted free agent, is likely to stay. David Long, the 2019 third-rounder, is the Rams’ highest pick at cornerback since second-rounder Janoris Jenkins in 2012. That has to change in this year’s draft.

Inside linebacker: Exclusive-rights free agent Travin Howard was tendered a contract and should get a second chance at the starting role he lost to a September knee injury. His return can bolster this much-maligned group, but it’s time to use a top-four-rounds pick on the position for the first time since first-rounder Alec Ogletree (2013).

Special teams: Long snapper Jake McQuaide signing with the Cowboys after 10 years in St. Louis and L.A. presents another area of concern, along with poor return and return-coverage units, for new special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis.

QUESTION MARKS

Wide receiver:
Stafford praised Robert Woods’ and Cooper Kupp’s ability to get open and gain yards after the catch, but he didn’t say they or Van Jefferson (or Josh Reynolds, a yet-unsigned Rams free agent) are the deep threat McVay wants. This draft looks well-stocked with wide receivers.

Tight end: Whether a signing or draft pick is needed to replace No. 2 tight end Gerald Everett (who signed with the Seahawks) depends on how much like 2020 fourth-rounder Brycen Hopkins after a season of sparing use.

Defensive line: Depth is needed. Trading nine-year Ram Michael Brockers to the Lions and losing free-agent Morgan Fox to the Panthers leaves four experienced defensive linemen on the roster, Aaron Donald (should he count for more than one?), Sebastian Joseph-Day, A’Shawn Robinson and Greg Gaines.

Safety: Some combination of Taylor Rapp, Jordan Fuller and Terrell Burgess figures to play the two positions with John Johnson gone to Cleveland. The question is if any of them can replace his leadership.

I’m Considering a School House

No one ever said I was normal. Have any of bought a strange building to live in as a home? If so, what was it?

Near where I live, a small elementary school is being lived in as a single family home. My brother in law went
to kindergarten there in like 1969 or so. It’s built with red brick concrete and cinder block on one floor.. There is an attached three car garage...to the small auditorium/gym. Propane heat/central ac. The school was opened in 1947 and so I am concerned whether the power system is grounded and whether it’s a septic system for sewer. I see three pronged industrial plugs in the basement, but sometimes that doesn’t mean anything. Also, the flat roof over the gym probably will need to be done in the near future, which won’t be cheap to do. Double pane windows, 4 bedrooms and 4 baths...Almost 3 acres of property and the property overall is well taken care of...

They placed it on the market for $250,000in late 2020 and took it off the market in Jan 2021. I imagine that with COVID-19 and a assessed tax property value being $79,500, they didn’t have too many people interested. They also put in the description that it would take more than a million dollars to build this place today, which I don’t doubt. But then the use of it was as a school and not as a single family home. There are no comparables in the area, of course.

I have been inside this place a while ago and I forget why I was there....maybe an auction? But what I always loved was that gym. It has a stage at one end and a basketball half court at the other!

Have any of you ever bought a strange building to live in as a home?

Do you think Noteboom is still the left tackle of the future?

I was just thinking about how we may draft given how our team is pretty talented top to bottom, but we have several linemen due for new contracts. Noteboom is one of them. He'll be a free agent after this season and Whitworth is getting old. Scratch that; he's old now lol. But I remember Noteboom filling in well when Whitworth was hurt.

I thought that drafting the left tackle of the future was important but maybe Noteboom gets a cheap extension to be the successor. What say you?

Giants signing WR Kenny Golladay to four-year, $72 million deal

The New York Giants are signing wide receiver Kenny Golladay to a four-year, $72 million deal with $40 million fully guaranteed, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, per informed sources. The deal is worth up to $76 million with incentives, Rapoport added.

Was hoping that the fact Matt Stafford was now our QB would have some pull with Golladay. But that being said ain't no way we were going to pay that kind of jack for a WR.
Good luck to him in NY, he's gonna need it......

Die hard Rams fan question.

Although Matthew Stafford may not play into his 40's, he clearly has no intention of letting up any time soon (very encouraged by his presser). So let's say he gives us 5 years or more in horns before retiring or moving on to another team.

What exactly would you expect of him in his time here to be considered "The Best Ram QB of the modern era"? No Van Brocklin here. I only got on this bus with Roman Gabriel.

If he leads us to 4 playoff runs, and 2 SB victories, does that do it? 2 SB wins the only number that matters since that gets us past Warner? 3 SB appearances? 5 NFC Championship appearances? Anything else?

I have unrealistically high hopes for his stay here. I admit it. But I am just going to say for the record that I predict he achieves enough during these next years so this title can be claimed without any arguing whatsoever between Rams faithful.

The metric I would choose is 2 SB wins, or 1 SB win with more than 2 SB appearances.

17 Game Season

With new TV deals in place, the NFL will have a new-look regular season.

For the first time since 1978, the NFL will expand the total number of games that count from 16 to 17. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the league will adopt 17 games for 2021.

Earlier today, Commissioner Roger Goodell said that a vote on a 17-game season is on the agenda for the league meetings set for later this month. The only question left to conclusively resolve is whether the league will have three or two preseason games.

The league most likely will stick with three preseason games, in order to retain the total 20-game season. Before the NFL played 16 regular-season games and four preseason games, the NFL had 14 regular-season games and six preseason games.

Also, a 17-and-3 model would allow the NFL to eventually expand to 18, with the ability to trade a reduction to two preseason games when the next season expansion inevitably occurs.

Brandon Lloyd Appreciation

Mixing things up between the first and second weave of free agency? Always respected him as an NFL player and wish we got him sooner. Better late than never, right? Just doing my due diligence as a ROD sponsor, positively contributing. Feel free to Rams on in with comments or videos. :horns: edit-Qwest Field and their I'm gonna take a #12 @Selassie I are loud as fuck in my headphones. Could only imagine being Bradford. Fuck!!

Bring us Clowney, Please!

This is my wish list and i think injury prone or not we would not be dependent on Clowney but when he plays and if he can stay healthy the defense is outstanding. He is a very good run stopper but as far as pressure. How do you account for him AD and Floyd and then throw in the young guns with guys like Ramsey and Williams back there it's a must sign.
My wish list that is attainable with money to spare.

1. Clowney either one year deal or 2 year deal set up like a Floyd type obviously less money and minimal hit against this year's cap.

2. Adoree Jackson or Brian Poole same neighborhood as Desmond king and I would not be against giving either of them a 1-3 year deal. King got 3.5 million

3. Get these guys by working something out with Stafford if money to spare bring in a veteran center better than Blythe still a couple left.

4. If you can pull that off use the draft to get an eskridge reinforce the o-line basically draft a corner inside linebacker. Those positions where I'd focus.

One and two obviously cannot be accomplished without number three but that makes this defense very special.

The Goff thread to end all Goff threads

Sure would have been nice if he felt at all interested in playing the Dolphins, Jets, 9ers, etc this season. We'd have been in perfect position to win the SB, considering we beat the Bucs without breaking a sweat.

Why not Brian Allen?

25yo, 6’2” 315

9 starts in 2019, injured in game 9?

2018 36 snaps on offense, played mostly on ST.

2 false starts, 1 hold, 1 other

Trying to figure out why people seem to be so down on Allen. He played 36 snaps at C as a rookie with no starts. Wins the starter role in 2019 played 8+ games before the knee injury. I don’t recall him being terrible and it was a small sample size at best.

Convince me he can’t come back 2 years later and be a factor in the battle to be our starter.

What to do in the Bahamas?

I'll be heading to the Bahamas for about a week in mid April. We'll be based in Staniel. This is my first time, but my host has had his boat down there a few times over the last couple of years. Aside from the general watersports, fishing, and beach time, are there any things to do/see that shouldn't be missed?
