Cocktails that You Actually Like

I know we're a bunch of sissified beer guzzlers and single malt scotch drinkers, but how about mixed drinks? I have been a little curious concerning cocktails lately and In have tried very few of them. Yes, I've had Margaritas and Pina Coladas a long time ago. When I was a Naval lad, I was dared to try Long Island Ice Tea, with the promise that three of them would knock me on my ass (they did). Kaluha with cream and Bailey's with cream are tasty. But since I don't hang out in bars and never have, I've not had many opportunities to drink all of these fancy drinks. Give me your favorites and why. Do they have a comparable taste to anything else for reference?

Fans at Rams/Bears game brawl--video

Ugh. Dumb guys doing dumb things.

Concourses look nice though!

EDIT: Didn't see this posted in the "Media fallout" thread. Although, this kind of violent stupidity might be deserving of its own thread... :D

Amazing how this franchise transformed itself

Just a quick comment about how this franchise has risen literally from the ashes of what it was 6 yrs ago when we made news in 2015 when our turf caught fire during pregame pyrotechnics.

Now they are a top 6 or 7 team in the NFL yr in & yr out, one of the most valuable sport's franchises in the world, and playing in maybe the greatest sports venue in the world.

Amazing transformation.

Game one philosophy

Every game in the NFL has its own challenges and differences in approach but this game afforded us some insight as to how the Rams will manage their season.

Let's start with the offense. The explosive plays are back and will change how defenses prepare for the Rams. They can no longer sit on the run and short to midrange passes or Stafford and company will burn them deep. Third and long is no longer a guarantee that the drive is over. McVay has varied the offense to a level of unpredictability not seen before now. The deep routes by Jefferson and Kupp indicates that the vertical threats can come from ANY of the receivers on the field. This will begin to open up the running game with lighter boxes moving forward.

Knowing the offense will be scoring changes the approach by Morris and the defense. It's really maddening as a fan to watch a pedestrian offense like the Bears control the ball with long drives but the chances that you can string 15 plus plays without a drive killer is risky. Morris did pick and choose his spots to gamble with the scheme and the results were mixed with some wins and losses. The run defense must improve though.

Overall, for a first game, the operation was mostly clean with few mental errors. Stafford and Woods weren't on the same page in the end zone. There was no contain on the first kickoff. There were a few missed assignments in the run defense. But they didn't beat themselves with pre snap penalties, turnovers, or personal fouls.

Most importantly, the Rams lost no players to injury. I will sweat that stat every week.

The one thing that I personally have to address now is expecting this team to be perfect on every play. I can't remember being that pissed off by a 13-7 score as much as I was at the half. But it does indicate that I believe this team has a 1999 feel to it. Each week will be a discovery of possibilities but I won't feel a sigh of relief until Mike Jones (er, Troy Reeder) makes the final tackle as time expires and the confetti falls in SoFi.

Kupp's chemistry

According to the media Kupp had great chemistry with Goff.

Now he has great chemistry with Stafford.

Or maybe chemistry doesn't really mean anything (do QBs every have great chemistry with bad WRs?) and he is just a fabulous WR who could have formed great chemistry with Tony Banks.

Ok, maybe not Banks.

We need 17 games out of him because there are very few receivers who offers what he can.

TexasRam's O-line Grades - Game 1 Da Bears.

Hey all,

Below are my grades for week 1 after rewinding the tape and watching each snap of each lineman.

First off let me say overall an excellent job by our starting 5. There were only 26 passing attempts and more than a few were quick passes. For the drop backs that took some time to develop while in the pocket our guys held up exceptionally well. No huge push in the run game but Da Bears front and linebackers plugged holes real well.

I didn’t see any drop-backs where any lineman missed an assignment or was immediately beat. There was a 2 second count on each pass.

Brian Allen did have two snaps where he gave up pressure and was beat after the initial block but that is all. I’ll show the snapshots below.

My Unbiased Grades:

Whitworth - B+ - Overall solid game containing Quinn. Not sure how much Quinn has left but Big Whit handled him well. Whit had 1 inside move from The DE that he lost but Stafford got the ball out. Whit also got pushed aside on a run block one time. Other then that, very solid. He appears about 85% of his prime young self. Which is still really good.

Edwards - B - not much to say besides very solid. Not a whole lot of push in the run game, but decent job overall. Solid pass pro.

Allen - B minus -Allen really was solid besides those two breakdowns in pass pro. On the sack near the end zone, Whit and Edwards guys were pushing the pocket as well - but Allen’s man was running free. Big difference. He fell to the ground and was beat 2x in this game. But again Hicks and Co. are very talented - so he gets a B minus overall. Allen was pretty good in the run game. He missed a few linebackers but was great on the combo blocks and was assignment sound. Several solid 2nd level blocks.

Corbett - B - Overall real solid. Had the Big block on the Hendo TD run. Had some mauling moments and pretty solid in pass pro.

Havenstein - A minus - Had one of his best games. Played Mack near perfect in pass pro and was stonewalling guys in the run game as normal. You have to really give him credit in this game because he handled Mack one on one nearly every snap without help. Mack has been dropping off as of last year but he’s still a force.

Brian Allen pics below. His only two pass pro snaps in which he got beat.

And as promised.......I changed my Avatar since Allen had held up against Hicks and Co. without giving up a sack or TFL. It wasn't a perfect game but good enough to have faith in him going forward. Good job Allen.

Go Rams!!!

20 Random Game 1 Win Thoughts

1. Great way to start the year!

2. Matthew Stafford was great. He was calm, decisive and made the right throws. And when there were opportunities for big plays, he didn't miss. Every bit as good as advertised.

3. Amazing to think that Stafford will likely get even more comfortable in this offense, and McVay will probably dig deeper and deeper into his playbook.

4. The threat of big plays has returned, and that's HUGE.

5. Overall, I'd give the offensive line a solid B grade. Stafford consistently had time to throw, and the running game - nonexistent early - showed up when we needed to kill the clock in the fourth quarter.

6. Brian Allen had two noticeable bad plays - a sack allowed and a holding penalty - but he did okay for his first live action since 2019.

7. Cooper Kupp was outstanding.

8. Tyler Higbee will be a favorite target all year.

9. The defense was frustrating at times, as it allowed the Bears to move the ball on the ground and with the short passing game. It showed up, however, at key points with an INT in the end zone and several fourth down stops.

10. Its fun to watch Jalen Ramsey playing like a strong safety against the run.

11. Justin Hollins had a nice game with two sacks and a forced fumble.

12. The combination of David Long and Robert Rochelle held up well at the nickel CB spot.

13. So, the NFC West is going to be tough this year...

14. The Seahawks handled a Colts team that might not be as good as I thought.

15. The Cardinals rout of Tennessee on the road was the biggest surprise of the day.

16. The 49ers blew out the Lions, as expected... for three quarters, before allowing the game to get close and surviving a scare in the end.

17. SoFi looked and sounded great with fans. Seems like its a pretty loud stadium.

18. Chris Collinsworth is insufferable. I can't believe anyone enjoys listening to his pointless ramblings.

19. Pretty low stress game watching experience tonight. I don't mind that one bit.

20. Great to have REAL football back!

What doesn’t worry me tonight…

1) The culture of rest starters and establishing depth has been here for four years now. The starters will be fine.

2) The addition of Michel allows the offense to spell Henderson. Along with the fact McVay can go to either when 1 is running great.

3) This Bears Oline ,along with a statue of a QB in Dalton, plays rights into a multiple sack night for the Rams. Possible 2+ TOs tonight.

4) Stafford will have some pressure, albeit from a familiar foe. Couldn’t have asked for a better match up out of the gate for him. He knows this defense well.

5) I just can’t buy into the “sky is falling“ posts that circulate on game game. No need to start the season or a game worried about everything none us control.

GO Rams

How about a warmup Rams vs Bears 2020

This team is better than last year's Rams. But you can see the Bears have enough to win if the Rams get sloppy. If the Rams play their A game they win going away.

Huge upgrade at QB for the Rams. (Dalton vs Foles at QB for Bears a wash IMO)
OL better with a year together with better coaching. Better center, blocking calls improved with Stafford and Allen vs Goff & Blythe.
Michel is far better than Brown and Henderson playing as Akers was out.
Better depth at WR and TE this year.
DE position improved with Williams in rotation (Lewis & Brockers in 2020)
Darious Williams far better CB than Troy Hill

Henderson & Brown combined for about 150 yds on the ground. Michel is a huge upgrade over Brown.
