How long does the Rams Super Bowl contender window stay open?

No less than another two seasons. Could be for as long as Stafford is at the top of his game which could be another 7 seasons. He might be that good in this offense.

Donald is 30. The best DTs usually begin to decline about age 31 but Donald is such a freak I am going to add two more seasons of All-Pro play. Ramsey off course will still be at the top of his game. That gives the Rams at least 3 seasons including this one of being legit Super Bowl contenders.

Best case is another 7 seasons of Stafford's career. Snead is such a good GM he should be able to find enough talent to support Stafford for those 7 seasons.

McVay’s growth

There are a lot of people out there who were happy to start taking shots at McVay the last couple of years… saying his ego is too big.. he ruined Goff… etc..

Never bought any of that nonsense.
Look how sharp this guy’s hires have been.. Morris & Carberry both looking excellent.
He brought in Staley to learn as much as he could about the Fangio D and more. He’s helped Morris get up to speed on it.
He’s showing great flexibility and willingness to learn with/from Stafford. This offense looks much different from previous years and incorporates things that obviously make Stafford comfortable. Add to that Kupp talking about being able to give input and help create stuff… and we get to see what McVay is made of.

Love that guy,

How Bucs Fans Reacted to the Loss

This is not a complete list, of course. Not a bad group of fans overall, but they tend to think their guys were playing like shyte and not that our guys were just a better team.. You can find these and other after game reactions at... http://www.itsabucslife.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=193

Post by King Bootz :

Apologies to Matthew Stafford. I thought he was a completely useless QB. He looked like a league MVP today.

========

Post by Max:

Yeah, in Detroit he had to play with bums like Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Marvin Jones, Nate Burleson, Kenny Golladay, T.J. Hockenson and Eric Ebron. Just to name a few.

But now he got a squad.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Because it won’t.

Post by Moozician:

We were out-played, plain and simple. Having SMB and JPP would have helped some, but probably wouldn’t have turned the tide.

Defense really got exposed

Stafford wasn’t pressured at all. Give Jameis Winston time like that, he’ll pick you apart. Stafford was ballin’.

God, I hate Cooper Kupp.

Post by Redrum:

Gotta get guys healthy. We will see them again and will be better. Gave me New Orleans vibes with how arrogant they were. It’s week 3 not the NFC Championship. Bucs will remember.

Post by Nano:

Oh god, I just realized that with this game done, we’re officially in Pats week.

Cue the 10 billion articles coming out about the storylines.

I don’t even want to imagine the warped headlines if we lose to them.

Post by the Rocker:

Frankly, their lines beat our lines; and a depleted secondary vs a healthy one tells the story of the game.

Kudos Rams fans.

Bowles needs to stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room.

Post by Snake:

Fucking Rams had ONE penalty for 4 yards.

Incredible.

Post by Digital_Damage:

You think if Donald quit right now he would be considered better than Young, Childress, Hampton, Randle and Culp?

Don’t be an idiot.

Post by Snake:

I’m all about revenge. But if we could avoid the Rams in the playoffs I’m ok with that. It’s a bad matchup for the Bucs.

Stafford’s third down stats

These are eye popping.

19 for 27 on third downs, with 275 yards and 3 TDs

On third down pass attempts of specifically 10 yards or more he is 6/8 for 142 yards and a TD, 5 first downs and a 156.3 passer rating.

I’m sorry for not posting a link. I read it on The Athletic. Subs required.

Anyone subscribed should look at Mike Sandos weekly article and his comparison between Stafford and Kurt Warner through three games. Matthew is slightly ahead.

70 Years Today

554 yards

One of the greatest opening day performances came in 1951 when Hall of Fame quarterback Norm Van Brocklin of the Los Angeles Rams threw for a record 554 yards. The mark still stands as the greatest single passing effort in National Football League history.

Given the evolution of the passing game in the last 25 years, the fact that this record still stands after 7 decades is amazing.

Don't Read - Draft Strategy

Trade away the #1 pick, for more future #1 picks. Then again, then again. In a few years you could end up with say 10 #1 picks in one draft. With that, you could build a super dynasty.

Survive off picks #2 - #7 the years #1s are being accumulated.

Don't laugh. This would be half the time it took the Rams to go from Linehan to McVay. I could wait a few years for the Rams to have a super draft with 10 1st round picks.

Yes. Bored at midnight so decided to document this magnificent idea.

Again, don't read this post please.

Why are fans so hard on the “injury prone”?

I’ve always found the term “injury prone” to be a bit odd. Anyone who steps on an NFL field is prone to injury. Perhaps a better description is “oft-injured.”

Whatever term is best used, it seems to me that fans are often quite harsh when referencing players who miss significant time due to injuries.

Why is that?

Is it just disappointment and frustration? Certainly, that’s a big part of it.

Are fans just heartless bastards who lack sympathy for players who, through no fault of their own, are unable to avoid getting hurt? Sometimes.

But I also think that fans believe, to some degree, that some oft-injured players miss time because they lack the toughness to play through pain and stay on the field despite the inevitable bumps and bruises that are inherent in the game. This is particularly true when the injuries (ie relatively soft tissue injuries).that others seem to play through.

Is that fair?

It’s tough to say. As fans, we can only guess whether guys like Darrell Henderson and Obo Okoronkwo are tough, but unlucky, or just unwilling to play though pain.

I try to give our guys the benefit of the doubt. It’s not always easy, though.

Kenny Young has positive response in Week 3

Kenny Young has positive response in Week 3

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – No matter where a viewer or observer looked on the field on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, Rams linebacker Kenny Young was there.

Sacking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady for a 9-yard loss? Check. Leveling Bucs running back Gionvani Bernard for a 2-yard loss? Check.

It was exactly what Rams head coach McVay wanted to see.

"I thought Kenny Young was outstanding today," McVay said. "Responding from a little bit of a setback last week, he handled it perfectly. Took accountability, ownership."

Young had a team-high 10 total tackles (three for loss), plus one sack, one QB hit, and one forced fumble in the Rams' 34-24 win on Sunday, a critical performance for the Rams' defense.

The sack of Brady – which came with 6:04 remaining in the third quarter – helped stall a Buccaneers drive that eventually ended with them punting, after the Rams went up 28-14. After the punt, the Rams added a 31-yard field goal by kicker Matt Gay to extend their lead to 31-14.

"That's Kenny, you know, he's a playmaker," Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald said postgame. "He's an important part to this defense. He knows that. That's one of the things we had to talk to him about last week and we've been talking to him this week about. It was a learning experience for him last week. I've been through that situation as well. So to see him come back out and play the way he played at a high level, flying around, making a lot of plays, that's why he's out there. That's why he's a playmaker for us."

The setback and learning experience McVay and Donald are referring to is when Young was ejected from the Rams' Week 2 game against the Colts for making contact with an official.

Young said Sunday it was an out of character moment for him, one that he learned the most about his attitude and how important each player is to the team. His reaction stemmed from getting tackled to the ground and feeling like he wasn't safe, but he admitted he needed to do a better job of controlling his emotions.

"I want to say I learned from it," Young said. "I didn't mean to bump into the referees. People that know me know that's not my character at all. I just love ball and doing it with a ton of passion. So I move forward from that, I learn from it. I think I've matured and grown from it personally, and I think that was a situation where probably won't happen again as long as I'm playing pro ball."

As soon as the Rams flew back to L.A. from Indianapolis, Young said he got back to his process and took things a day at a time.

Asked about his performance against the Bucs, said he spent this past offseason focusing on the bigger picture. He said he knows he has the talent and is part of an organization to help him get to where he envisions as a player and a leader. Ultimately, he came to the realization that "I can't negotiate with myself if I really want to be great."

Consequently, he bought into having a great training camp, and the momentum from the way they competed during that time is why he and the defense as a whole is enjoying the success they are currently having.

"I took every day in training camp and OTAs to really get better, and I think it's just paying off," Young said. "I love my coaches, they believe in me, and they just let me go do my thing. They let me go lead, and I feel confident in that."

Can't get over superbowl loss in 2018

It was not a matter off "if" but "when" would we win a superbowl. Goff, McVay, and Cooks were all to blame for that superbowl loss but the real culprits were injuries. Brandin Cooks cost the Patriots their superbowl and he did the same thing to the Rams. Goff lost his #1 and #2 weapons in the superbowl with a damage Gurley and a missing Kupp. That Broncos player who injured Kupp is responsible for Brady winning that superbowl. If Goff had either a healthy Gurley or Kupp, we win that superbowl. And if he had both, we would win it easily.

Brady is the luckiest SOB on the face of this planet because no other QB get to play a SB team missing its two best weapons. Gurley was the offensive player of the year and Kupp makes life easy for Goff and Stafford. It would be like Brady not having Randy Moss in his superbowl. What other SB team won a SB while missing its two best players on offense? I mean our defense was rank #23 (if i'm not mistaken) in 2018 so it was below average.

That superbowl changed the course of Rams history forever and I'm still shellshocked by it even today. I just can't get over it and I don't even know how you cope with it? And don't get me started on Stafford, no other superbowls from here on out will be as special as the one we could have gotten in 2018.

A few impressions about the Bucs game after some reflection…

Snead/McVay have managed to constantly upgrade this roster since 2017 despite losing talented players each year due to the cap ceiling. That’s now a 5 year trajectory and counting. Beyond huge and I don’t see many other teams doing that.

Also, McVay has done a magnificent job of annually replenishing his coaching staff. 7 new coaches this year alone. The importance of that can’t be overstated. I’ve never seen anything like it, tbh.

Well, I guess that Stafford trade is kinda working out, huh? Don’t see any ‘Stafford ain’t elite’ posts anymore. Lol.

Buckle up, y’all. This Ram O has not yet fully hit it’s stride. When it does I think it will compare nicely to the GSOT. There, I said it.

Hard to pick just one player that’s been this season’s most pleasant surprise. Allen, Hav, Stafford (exceeded even my lofty expectations), Big Whit (reports of his decline have been greatly exaggerated), Jefferson, DJ, Jones-Day, Hollins, Young, Reeder, Long. All have exceeded most expectations. And frankly, we’ve seen flashes from ARob lately, Lewis, and Rochell. Michel has done a fine job after being thrown into the fire, as well. If I didn’t know better, I’d think that the Rams have some shrewd talent evaluators AND some ‘real fine’ coaches.

Don’t look now, but I think Rams have a SB caliber OL. Apparently our OL fears were misplaced. Kudos to Carberry, btw. Looking like another brilliant McVay coaching hire so far.

Can’t wait to see Garrett and Harris worked onto the field, will be invaluable prep for next year if nothing else.

Each year we lose quality players due to the cap and yet each year Snead/McVay have capable replacements just waiting to take their place. Quite a refreshing change from the post-GSOT years, huh?

Rams D virtually shut down Bucs rushing game. Only allowed 35 yards, I believe, and 14 of those were from Brady scrambles. Heck, Bucs stopped trying, especially when Rams went on their consecutive scoring drive binge.

Speaking of which, 6 consecutive scoring drives? Am I dreaming? Somebody pinch me!

I’m really warming up to Kenny Young. The more I see and hear, the more I like. How about you?

Long has been a pleasant surprise but this Rochell kid really intrigues me. I’m almost certain that he’s gonna be just fine as DW’s replacement next year. Should make a helluva duo with Ramsey.

Gay has proven to be an upgrade over Zuerlein. Brilliant decision there.

Maybe, just maybe, our ST coverage teams are coming around. Sure hope so, but DeCamillus hasn’t won me over just yet. If our ST can regain top 5 status then I think this Ram team will be complete.

Not to bash Goff in any way, but the difference Stafford brings to this O is dramatic. The other 3 HC’s in our division now know that they will truly have their hands full against the new best QB in the NFC West. McVay is visibly giddy on the sidelines these days. Like a 6 year old on Christmas morning!

I continue to dislike this ‘soft zone’ D that Morris prefers. Frankly, I don’t think it plays to the strengths of DW, Long, or Rapp in particular. I would also like to see more 3-and-outs to allow Stafford more possessions. Just imagine what THAT could accomplish. But I will concede that the scoring D has been quite good, probably in the top 5-6 of teams that have played 3 games. So there is that.

I’m gonna wrap it up with this. The ‘21 Rams are not gonna go undefeated because it’s almost impossible with a 17 game season in this era of cap forced parity. But I will say this. This team has not yet peaked and probably won’t until at least November. But they are clearly among the handful that are legit SB contenders.
