After 24 hours of seething, here’s my Ram ‘to do/fix it’ list…

Where to start?

Probably the single biggest thing is to stop with the turnovers. By far the single biggest factor in determining W/L results.

Which brings us to Stafford, the single biggest turnover offender. Here’s the thing. I’m convinced that he’s playing hurt and that’s what’s causing most of his errant throws. It’s killing Rams on yardage, 1st downs, points, and TOP. I hate to say it but I’m afraid that Rams would be better off starting either Wolford or Perkins until Stafford has sufficiently recovered. I respect Stafford’s willingness to play through pain but right now he’s killing his team.

McVay needs to call more running plays. Duh! And more focus on the shorter to medium range throws might be a good idea. Regardless of who is at QB, but particularly if it’s Wolford or Perkins. BTW, for what it’s worth, I kinda prefer Perkins as backup until Stafford is recovered.

McVay needs to insist that Morris modify his scheming, particularly on 3rd down. The days of playing off 8-10 yards on 3rd and 3-4 should be over. Opponents are feasting on it with safe and quick short passes. Even Aikman commented on it late in the Packer game.

It blows my mind that Burgess can’t crack this lineup while Rapp keeps getting so many snaps. Again, opponents are targeting Rapp and enjoying good results. Did Burgess run over Morris’ dog? Seriously, this almost seems personal.

Rams are currently not getting enough pressure on QB’s. This is at least partly because opponents are finding it so easy to run the ball and then take the quick and very safe and sure short pass for the 1st down because Morris has our defenders playing ‘off’ while waiting for a ‘mistake’ by the opposing QB. How’s that been working in these last 3 games? The resulting 8-9 minute drives ending in points speaks to the foolishness of such a strategy. Prepare to rinse and repeat by every upcoming opponent on our schedule. Again, blows my freaking mind, especially after coming off of a bye. Arrrrrgh!

Reeder is a net liability and among the weakest links on D. One that opponents constantly target with good success. Is there no ILB on this roster that could be given some of Reeder’s snaps? Just to see if there isn’t an upgrade on this damned roster? And why couldn’t Morris have foreseen this problem back in the Spring? Or maybe deploy more 5-1-5 or some other outside-the-box scheme to cover up for this current ILB weakness? Geez, do SOMETHING, dammit!

My kingdom for a run blocking second TE. Even a street FA would be better than nothing, don’t you think? Again, why wasn’t this problem foreseen? Geez…

Frankly, I’ve not yet been particularly impressed with either Miller or OBJ. But as long as they’re here I would highly recommend that Rams force feed both to see if they can still be difference makers. If only to help decide on ‘22 decisions on both. Hope both are not somewhat has-beens getting by on their former reputations.

I would incorporate the above personnel and scheme moves in the Jags game. It would be a perfect opportunity to work out the kinks before those final critical 5 games. Now or never, IOW.

There seems no advantage in postponing these moves because our current personnel and schemes are just yielding embarrassing losses week after week. So, what do we have to lose, anyway?

We know this. What we’re currently doing ain’t working. And we also know that ‘Fortune favors the Bold’…

You cant blame..

the organization for trying to bring a championship to the Ram fans and the city of LA. When the Stafford trade went down there was some happy and some not so much, it started out great and with the additions of Miller and Beckham there was a ton of optimism and excitement.... it has nosedived quick and im beyond disappointed about the current results. if it’s too good to be true then it usually is. As a fan im deflated, but as fans all we can do is watch. Sucks like a Mfer. Hope they dig deep and find some chemistry quick.

OBJ, Von, Stafford - what do they have left?

How much do "the big additions" have left in them?

Stafford started out on fire but right now, all 3 look past their prime to varying degrees.

Is Donald still capable of wrecking games singlehandedly or is that a thing of the past?

Big Whit isn't half the OT he was 3 years ago. I can't see him not retiring.

Does Robert Woods return next season as his same old dependable self? With the exception of his 1 big game, Woody was struggling before his injury.

Did bringing in Von Miller actually harm our pass rush by forcing Floyd to play the opposite side? Now we have 2 premium edge rushers playing outside of their comfort zones and keeping emerging pass rush talent off the field?

Were Darious Williams, Jordan Fuller and Co just products of Staleys defense or are they just victims of Morris D?

What does next year look like?
I don't think this franchise can withstand another Superbowl Or Bust season.

McVay turned us around before, with the help of a good Fisher roster. Whenever this team has to reload or rebuild or whatever you want to call it, he's going to have his work cut out for him.

MNF - Seahawks at Washington

Monday Night Football: Seattle Seahawks vs. Washington Football Team

When the schedule for "Monday Night Football" was released prior to the season this Week 12 matchup looked like it would involve two front-runners for their respective divisions if everything went well. Unfortunately, the Seattle Seahawks (3-7) and Washington Football Team (4-6) have had challenging seasons to date, and this game won't have the same juice nationally. However, these are two proud franchises, so you can't discount the possibility of both teams having some entertaining moments this week and this game ends up surprising some folks.

Seattle had zero answers for Colt McCoy and the Arizona Cardinals in a discouraging 23-13 home loss last week. McCoy completed 35-of-44 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns. If it weren’t for some struggles by kicker Matt Prater, this game would not have been as close as it was. The Seahawks' defense was left on the field for way too long as the Cardinals had the ball for more than 40 minutes. Russell Wilson was out of sync, completing 14-of-26 passes for 207 yards. Sustaining drives was a problem as the offense converted just two out of 10 third-down opportunities against a salty Arizona defense. These two issues have epitomized the 2021 season in a nutshell, as Seattle is allowing teams to average 35 minutes and 15 seconds per game in time of possession. Meanwhile, the offense is battling it out with Detroit and Jacksonville for the worst third-down conversion rate as the Seahawks rank 31st in the NFL at 32.41 percent.

Washington picked up a second straight win, this time going down to Carolina and beating the Panthers 27-21. The win marked a victorious return to Bank of America Stadium for head coach Ron Rivera who was 76-63-1 in his tenure as head coach of Carolina from 2011-19. Washington had a balanced offensive effort led by Taylor Heinicke, who completed 16-of-22 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Antonio Gibson led a strong rushing attack with 95 yards on 19 carries. Defensively, WFT limited Christian McCaffrey to just 59 yards on 10 carries and did a great job of getting off the field on third down. Washington held Carolina to 2-of-9 in that situation, and that must continue if this team wants to mount any sort of second-half playoff push.

Monday Night Football: Seattle (3-7) at Washington (4-6)

Kickoff: Monday, Nov. 29 at 8:15 p.m. ET
TV: ESPN
Spread: Washington -1

Three Things to Watch

1. Seahawks' offense

This unit has been tough to watch since Russell Wilson has returned from his finger injury. The offense has scored just one touchdown over the past two games and hasn't appeared to pose much of a threat in either contest. Pete Carroll can talk all he wants about running the football. But, until this offense can consistently move the ball on the ground and stay patient with it, Carroll’s talk is worthless. The neck injury suffered by Chris Carson, which has ended his season, has proven costly without question. Alex Collins is just a guy and has shown he's not capable of carrying a team on his back. Rashaad Penny has been a bust as a first-round pick (No. 27 overall in 2018), and injuries have been a persistent issue for the backfield in recent seasons. The bottom line is the lack of a legit running game puts too much weight on Wilson, and he has shown that he is not up to the task over the past two weeks. Wilson can fix this by executing a couple of deep balls early to loosen up the Washington defense, which ranks 28th in the NFL against the pass (270.0 ypg).

2. Can Washington maintain offensive balance?

Washington has a golden opportunity to have another great week of balance on offense. Antonio Gibson can set the tone running the football, which will set up the play-action passing game. Taylor Heinicke should have a productive day throwing the ball against a depleted secondary for the Seahawks. Cornerback Tre Brown appears lost for the season to a knee injury, which is disappointing as he was showing a lot of promise. Two additional keys for WFT's offense this week will be taking care of the football to avoid giving Wilson and the Seahawks great field position to score easy points. Another will be converting third downs as Washington went 11-of-19 two weeks ago in a 29-19 win over Tampa Bay, dominating the time of possession (39:08) battle in the process.

3. Seahawks' defense vs. Washington's offense

You can expect to see a steady mix of screen passes to the backs out of the backfield from Washington along with targets to leading wide receiver Terry McLaurin early and often. The question for Seattle is how the defense will respond this week after having issues with Colt McCoy, who looked like the second coming of John Elway on the roast last Sunday. Jamal Adams needs to step up and do his job in pass coverage as he has had too many problems this season in that area. The defensive line needs to try and generate pressure on Heinicke even if they don’t register sacks. Slowing down the run must happen as well as the Seahawks can't allow decent gains early to set up manageable throws for Heinicke on third down. Now, if this defense has mentally checked out then all bets are off, and this game could get out of hand right away.

Final Analysis

The Seahawks need to have something positive happen early in the first quarter to let them settle in and keep this game competitive for 60 minutes. Washington will get enough plays out of Heinicke, who should be able to take advantage of a Seattle defense that is 30th against the pass (279.6 ypg) and has recorded just four interceptions this season. This game will be competitive for a while as there is not appear to be much separation between these teams personnel-wise. In the end, Washington will wear down Seattle’s defense and pull away in the second half for a two-score victory. For the Seahawks, this game should be the final nail in the coffin for the 2021 season and could potentially force them to shut Wilson down, especially if he struggles again on Monday night.

Prediction: Washington 24, Seahawks 14

My Assessment Of The Last 3 Games

So we lost the last three games. It sucks. But when I gave it some thought, it's not because the Rams are soft or weak. I do agree that adjustments need to be made but I think the issues are fixable. It might be too late to get back into the chase for the division now but who knows?

McVay has all but abandoned the play action that was so effective at freezing the linebackers for split second which helps open up passing lanes. Also, it seems like Stafford is always holding the ball wanting to hit the home run. Other teams, especially the whiners and packers were perfectly willing to take what the defense gave them which were 4, 5 and 6 yard gains in front of the Rams soft zone. That's how you get a 15 play or 18 play drive. I can almost predict where the 3rd down pass is going when one of our CBs is lined up ten yards from the receiver on 3rd and 3. It's pitch and catch for Garapolo and Rodgers. It they would just man up, even if we get burned at times, we won't be allowing 15 play drives. At least make them earn their first downs. This is fixable but we keep hitting our heads and wondering why it isn't getting better.

The special teams must pay attention to detail and always prepare for a fake FG or punt. It's burned us too many times. I think Koski needs to go with the fumbleitis.

The offense needs to be patient and take those 5 yards gains at times. Too many times we run and wind up in 2nd and 7 and we try for the home run and end up in 3rd and 7 or get sacked and wind up with 3rd and 15. It's happened too many times and it's been a trend in the last 3 games. And if the offense takes what it can get, we don't get into positions where we wind up turning the ball over. We are -2 in turnovers the last 3 games and there's an NFL metric showing how incredibly hard it is for any teams to overcome a 2 turnover deficit, especially against teams of near equal talent.

That's my rant and 2 cents. I don't know if changes will be made but those are my observations.

VENT Vent Thread - Rams/Packers

There were so many mistakes fumbles, int, offsides on a punt, easy catch by Jefferson bounces off his helmet really? 88 yard drives by Green bay. Don't convert on short 4th and 1 should have been a sneak. Add delay of game on a 2 point try. Add roughing the passer by Miller when we are trying to get back in it. No pass rush all day. Kupp let's a punt go by net Rams now need to go 99 yards it really is endless. Short punts. Shank punt.

Bad discipline. McVay and coaches need to be tougher. Team is playing scared and undeciplined.

Stafford is not the answer either too many mistakes. He throws behind receivers, short to receivers, overthrows beckum and announcers say they haven't had enough time together the ball was in the Rama bench, same as AZ/Tenn/SF game this is a pattern.

SNF - Browns at Ravens

Sunday Night Football: Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens

Last December, the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens combined for 89 points in an epic 47-42 offensive explosion. Lamar Jackson wrote a special chapter in Baltimore sports history by returning from the locker room, crippled by cramps to lead a game-winning field goal drive in the game's final minute. On the ground, both teams combined for nine rushing touchdowns, tying an NFL record set back in 1922.

Don't expect those fireworks this time around as both teams fight for control in the crowded AFC North. Baltimore and Cleveland have scored just 46 points combined the past two weeks as both injuries and illness have taken their toll.

Last week, Jackson couldn't muster any type of heroic performance; a non-COVID-19 ailment left him sidelined as the Ravens struggled to put away the lowly Chicago Bears 16-13. The Browns are in the same boat, quarterback Baker Mayfield dealing with shoulder, heel, and groin injuries as he struggles to stay on the field. A scoreless second half against the winless Detroit Lions put his team on the ropes, although a 13-10 victory left them hanging in this AFC North race at 6-5.

That leaves this matchup an early playoff game with all four AFC North teams bunched together. A Ravens win puts them in position for not only the division title but the top seed in the conference at 8-3; a Browns victory tightens up the race and strengthens their postseason credentials in a conference where 12 teams are sitting at .500 or better, including all four AFC North teams.

Can the Browns find a way to score with their quarterback a shell of himself? Or will Jackson be healthy enough to keep the Ravens in control of their own destiny?

Sunday Night Football: Cleveland (6-5) at Baltimore (7-3)

Kickoff: Sunday, Nov. 28 at 8:20 p.m. ET
TV: NBC
Spread: Ravens -3.5

Three Things to Watch

1. Will both starting quarterbacks be on the field? How healthy will they be?

It looks like Jackson is clearly on the mend after a bizarre sickness kept him from starting last week. Calling himself "120 percent" certain to play against the Browns, Jackson feels recovered from his third serious illness since the start of the 2020 season.

"I have no clue," he said about where and how he got sick. "I just got fatigued. I got some chills. I was out of it. But I'm good now. I'm feeling great."

The last time Jackson was held out of a game due to illness, in December 2020, he charged back from COVID-19 to lead the Ravens on a five-game winning streak. The first game back, against Dallas in Week 13, he threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third, so don't expect him to be conservative if he plays. Jackson's MVP-level talent is what an offense decimated by injuries needs after putting up just 16 points last week.

If he starts, expect the Browns defense, led by DE Myles Garrett, to blitz often and put the pressure on the Ravens' offensive line. Jackson replacement Tyler Huntley was sacked six times last week and, Jackson's been taken down 28 times this season, tied for the third-most in the NFL despite only playing nine games. The Browns' 29 sacks lead the AFC, so if Jackson is starting this game, he better have his typical mobility level.

Mayfield's status is far less clear. A groin injury suffered against the Lions is just the latest setback, leaving him an unexpected scratch from Wednesday's practice. Even a limited stint on Friday would leave him questionable for Sunday night's contest.

Should he be out there? Mayfield hasn't thrown for more than 300 yards since Oct. 10 as backup Case Keenum has seen significant action twice in the last five games. Just 10 touchdown passes have him on track for a career low; 27 sacks taken leave him tied for fifth most in the NFL. It's a scary set of numbers heading into back-to-back games against the Ravens (Cleveland plays them again after a Week 13 bye) that will make or break their 2021 season.

"Big-picture wise, everybody wants to act like the world is falling," Mayfield said this week. "No, we haven't played to our potential, and we know that more than anybody."

Even Mayfield's wife is fighting back against the critics, praising her husband's toughness in a deleted Instagram story this week. But actions on the field matter and making a heroic start is not always a guarantee of a successful one.

2. Can Nick Chubb carve up the Ravens rush defense?

As Mayfield's turned invisible, Chubb has caught fire, tearing up the field for 267 yards and two touchdowns in his last two starts. Despite missing three games due to injury, he's still third in the AFC with 851 rushing yards this season.

The question is whether Chubb can sustain this against a Ravens defense that's second in the NFL against the run. In the past six games, they've limited opponents to an average of 70 yards on the ground, allowing just one 100-yard rusher (Dalvin Cook) during that stretch.

In that Vikings game, quarterback Kirk Cousins was exceptional, spreading the field in a turnover-free, sack-free, two-touchdown performance. It's another reason the pressure is on Mayfield as the Ravens rank second to last in the NFL in passing defense.

3. Can Chase McLaughlin match Justin Tucker's dream season?

McLaughlin, in his first season kicking for the Browns, has looked shaky the past couple of weeks. He's made just four of his last seven field goals, missing three of his last four attempts from 40 yards or more.

In what's expected to be a low-scoring game, that makes a difference with Tucker sitting on the other sideline. It's been smooth sailing for the future Hall of Famer this season, making 20 of 22 kicks for the Ravens with a résumé that includes that NFL-record 66-yarder against the Lions. Tucker added another game-winner against the Vikings last month while making 73 of his last 74 extra points.

It's the type of consistency that shortens the field for the Ravens offense and makes three points a near certainty the second they cross midfield. Don't discount his impact here.

Final Analysis

The Ravens feel confident Jackson will play despite last week's late scratch. Assuming he does, that immediately elevates this offense over Mayfield. The Browns are in a tough spot, dealing with a starting QB desperate to prove himself for a long-term contract extension but who increasingly looks like he needs months to heal up.

That puts the pressure all on Chubb with neither Mayfield nor backup Case Keenum dependable enough. Unlike Jackson, the running back can't do it all by himself.

Prediction: Ravens 23, Browns 10

Robert Woods -Stupid Question!

This has probably been discussed
and answered many times but I have not seen it BUT is there any chance Robert Woods could make it back for the Rams Playoff Games? I don’t know if there are League Rules preventing him from returning this season and even if they do allow his return I don’t know if there is any possibility him recovering that quickly!!

All I do know is I would feel MUCH BETTER if he was in the Rams Lineup when the Rams start their SUPER BOWL BID/RUN!!!

Von Miller: Pass rushing with Aaron Donald is like Shaq and Kobe playing basketball

Von Miller: Pass rushing with Aaron Donald is like Shaq and Kobe playing basketball

- Cameron DaSilva / RamsWire

Leonard Floyd has been an excellent complement to Aaron Donald since the Rams signed him in 2020. But even with Floyd and Donald on the same defensive front, the Rams saw room for their pass rush to get even better.

That’s why they brought in Von Miller, acquiring him from the Broncos in Week 9. Miller has only played one game with the Rams so far but his role and impact should both grow against the Packers on Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field.

Miller loves playing alongside Donald already and during his media session on Friday, he used an interesting analogy to explain what it’s like to rush the quarterback with a future Hall of Famer like AD. He said rushing the passer with Donald is like Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal playing together with the Lakers during their primes.

“I do a lot of things well in life. I do a lot of the things well playing football as well. But the one thing that I do better than anything else is rush the passer,” Miller said. “Aaron Donald is just one of the best rushers to ever play this game as well. So, whenever we got opportunities to rush and opportunities to go together, we focus in on it. I feel like getting a rush plan is easy. It’s just like playing basketball – Shaq and Kobe. You figure a way to make both guys work. I set the pick if I need to set the pick. He’ll set the pick, if it’s open, I shoot it. If it’s there for him to dunk it, he’ll dunk it. But it’s easy whenever you got guys like Leonard Floyd, and Aaron Donald, and the type of guys that we got rushing. It’s really easy. It’s not really a lot that goes into it. Just a simple conversation. We speak the same language and it’s definitely been a treat and refreshing to have just these limited reps that I had with Aaron Donald so far.”

Miller is used to having an outstanding pass rusher playing on the same defense has him. While in Denver, he and DeMarcus Ware wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks, providing a ton of pressure off the edge. Then he had Bradley Chubb, who was productive when healthy.

Miller has talked to Ware recently and now sees himself playing the same role for the Rams as Ware did for the Broncos when he joined them late in his career.

“I was just thinking about DeMarcus and how he came into my life at the perfect time and I see myself as DeMarcus coming here,” Miller said. “I’m older. I still can play. I’ve been adopted into this culture, in this team. I didn’t come here and develop here with the Rams. So, I’m coming from a different spot. I’m here and I’m gonna try to do my best to get sacks. I’m doing the same thing DeMarcus did for me. I talked to him, and I told him I appreciated him and thanked him for everything that he was doing for me. And I see myself doing the same thing now.”

If Donald and Miller can do for the Rams what Miller and Ware did in Denver, this defense could be one of the best in football for the rest of the year. And that’s without even mentioning their All-Pro corner, Jalen Ramsey.

The stars just have to align in Los Angeles now for everything to come together.

State of the Running Game

Below is a snip from an article at The Athletic.

A lot of chat around here about running the ball more… and I agree with that… But, this article really highlights our run game has only been so-so.

The yards after contact… getting Michel more carries might help there?

Anyway, interesting data in that article…

It’s important to not conflate a popular social media sentiment — “the Rams need to run the ball more” — with situational reality: Can they, actually?

To be clear: Running the ball is important, yes. This is notan argument against running the ball. But in the past two weeks, when those cries were perhaps at their highest of the year to date, the Rams were facing a two-turnover deficit and hardly any clock to work with, by design from the other team. If simply a turnover deficit, the argument to run the ball more earlier on is especially valid. But the 49ers doubled the Rams’ time of possession throughout the game and, coupled with the deficit, getting the ball downfield quicker and in larger chunks-per-play, is a sound plan.

Even if they wanted to run the ball at a higher clip, can they? Or would that currently actually be an inefficiency? The numbers say the latter may be true.

The Rams are averaging 4.03 yards per carry behind Darrell Henderson and Sony Michel (No. 23 in the NFL) and they are also averaging only 2.29 yards after first-contact, according to TruMedia, which is No. 29 in the NFL. They’re doing this despite only facing eight or more box defenders on 25.1 percent of snaps, which is the second-lowest in the league, and their successful rush-play rate is just 39 percent. In fact, 21 percent of their rush plays have amassed zero or negative yards, which is 25th-worst in the league. So, they’re seeing “loaded” boxes against the run far less frequently than almost any other team in the NFL, and still rank among the worst in rush production. Part of this may be because Henderson has been dealing with a variety of injuries since training camp, and it’s hard to build a rush plan around a player who isn’t staying on the field consistently even series-over-series, at times.

Because of this, it doesn’t seem like the Rams are going to turn into a methodical, ground-and-pound ball-control team overnight. That’s just the reality people have to face.

The Infamous Pretzel Incident....

How did I NOT hear about this?? If it's in another thread feel free to delete this thread Mods!

Kelly Stafford has banned herself from attending Rams road games, explains pretzel-throwing drama

Kelly Stafford says she was owning her mistake

By Joe Kinsey | OutKick

Kelly Stafford, wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, finds herself in a pickle because of a pretzel. You still with me? Earlier this month a Rams road loss at the hands of the 49ers had Mrs. Stafford feeling salty, causing her to make like her husband and throw a dart. The only difference: Kelly was tossing a pretzel instead of pigskin and unlike her husband that night, she hit her intended target.

On Tuesday’s edition of the "The Morning After" podcast, Kelly Stafford, the wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, announced she was self-imposing a Rams road game ban on herself after what transpired last week at Levi’s Stadium where she was escorted out of the Rams-49ers game after a pretzel-throwing incident.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (9) throws during the first half of an NFL football game against the Indianapolis Colts, Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, in Indianapolis.

Kelly says she was removed from the stadium just five minutes into the game when a fan started heckling and the QB’s wife launched a pretzel at the guy. It’s probably best she was kicked out. The Rams went on to get blown out 31-10.
"I guess I hit him right in the head," she explained on her aim with a piece of the pretzel she ripped off and launched behind her head. "Not an ideal response," Kelly added.
"I’m human, I make mistakes, and I own up to them, I don’t f—king hide from them, that’s not me."
