Identity

I know a few posters besides myself had mentioned it before.

What is this team's identity?

Well.. the one that's willing to go jumbo to get some positive down and distance situations has won two in a row, the second despite a shit ton of adversity. It's one that has re-integrated play-action and moving the pocket.

On defense.. it's primarily a bend don't break pass D, but it's mixing in more coverages as the season goes on. It's also developing a rooking ILB. One thing for sure.. it's TOUGH AS HELL up front in the run and pass game.

I hope McVay looks at these wins and sees a path forward for this team with what they've learned and accomplished the last two weeks heavily mixed in to anything they do.

Your thoughts on the OBJ signing 3 games in?

I know there were a lot of posters who weren’t thrilled at the signing. Some even went out of their way to bash him after only a couple of games. What are your feelings on the OBJ signing now and of him as a player?

I’m thrilled to have the guy. I was stoked when I saw we had signed him. Funny how Ramsey was a cancer with the Jags and OBJ with the Browns. There’s something about playing for a winning organization and a coach that players respect eh? He might be a one year rental but if things continue progressing with him I hope we find a way to keep him.

I have a confession to make...

Back in 2012 I was in stl visiting my family, where I stumbled upon these really cool high top sock. They had the stl skyline in blue and gold, so I bought them and tried to wear them every game day that season. We lost every game that season that I wore them. I tried again in 2013...same outcome. I've never worn them since...until last month. 3 out of the 4 weeks I had to wear them bc I had no other socks to wear with my work boots. I think you know where this is going.

I just wanted to get that off my chest and apologize. I should have settled for blisters.

20 Random Oh, Hell Yeah! Thoughts

1. I swear I've seen a lot of stuff in my life but, that... was.... AWESOME!

2. Sometimes, a game reminds you that sports are played by humans, not fantasy players with PFF scores. And sometimes, on special days (or nights), humans rise up against adversity and do something special.

3. So many heroes tonight, so I'm going to give several shout-outs.

4. Aaron Donald was a beast. Sack hat trick, tipped pass setting up key INT, drawing holding penalties all night. Great player making big plays in a big game.

5. The much maligned David Long, Jr. held up pretty well in tough circumstances, and Darious Williams came on late with some big PDs.

6. Cooper Kupp and OBJ... 200 yards and 2 TDs (and 19 receptions on 22 targets!).

8. Huge INTs by LBs Ernest Jones and Leonard Floyd.

9. Sony Michel and the patchwork OL grinding out key yards (and minutes) in the running game.

10. Matthew Stafford simply outstanding.

11. Van Jefferson with a big TD in front of his Dad (who will probably scold him for his penalties).

12. And, finally... Greg Gaines... who continues to play stout up front (and chased down Kyler Murray - no, that wasn't a typo - twice!

13. Pretty well officiated game... with the exception of a mind-boggling non-call on the face mask of Matthew Stafford (which likely cost us 4 points).

14. If James Conner wants to play in L.A. with Aaron Donald next season (after his one year deal in Arizona expires), he'd be most welcome.

15. The Cardinals finished with 447 yards on offense. Sometimes, yards are overrated (particularly when you can get 4th down stops).

16. This is the kind of win that can be a real building block for the stretch-run. The Rams know that, even with unexpected challenges, they can come together as a team and grind out a big win.

17. It will still be a tough challenge to win the West. But, perhaps, if the Cardinals walk away with a bit of self-doubt after tonight, we'll get a chance to catch and pass them.

18. Blessing in disguise... do you think that Jalen Ramsey, Rob Havenstein, Tyler Higbee, Darrell Henderson and the ever-feisty Donte Deayon will let this team have an emotional letdown next week at home against Seattle?

19. I'm feeling good tonight!

20. Doubters... no calling you out, no gloating. Just a simple "welcome back!"

Despite the emotional highs and lows watching a game, we will moderate this thread with that in mind, however please refrain from name calling. This applies to players, the Rams organization, and others.

This is the core rule of the GDT. Moderators are tasked to issue thread bans, at a minimum, to maintain this standard.

This is our team. Win or lose. Good days and bad. We are here for FUN, not to be dragged down.

OFFICIAL 2022 NFL coaching carousel

It's never too early to start talking about coaches being fired is it?

Who's on the hot seat?

Urban Meyer I think is an obvious answer. His team is terrible and we've all seen him showing his true colors down there as well.
Vic Fangio? That's an impressive defense and some good talent on O other than QB and they just keep under performing.
Matt Rhule, a billionaire owner who's not a fan of losing and hasn't seen any progress from the hot college coach after two year. Plus I think Rhule is going to get some interest from colleges.
There's already an opening in Vegas we all know about.
Mike Zimmer for obvious reasons
Joe Judge and Gettleman I think are both gone, a complete cleaning of house is warranted.
Matt Nagy IMO is the most obvious answer along with Pace. They just aren't good at all and you have a young QB so bring in somebody new.

Some will say Petey but I'm not sure hot seat applies to him but he could be one of those mutual parting of ways out of respect for his time there.
David Culley and Robert Salah though I don't know that firing either with the state of their rosters is realistic.
Some will also add Dave Campbell and while I don't think he's the long term answer they're pretty competitive most weeks so not sure he gets the boot.

Media jumping off the bandwagon

LMFAO
The fairweather media are jumping off the Ram bandwagon. Every team goes through a rough spot during the season. The Ram's have been hit hard by injuries. That said their roster is still loaded with talent.

They probably lose Lewis this week, but now they get Justin Hollins back to pair with Miller. IMO that is an upgrade, despite how good Lewis has played. Hollins brings the speed that is lacking in Lewis. He's also better in coverage. What I'm saying is that this team can get on a roll and peak at the exact right time of the season. How a team plays in December is very important.

The Cards are one more Murray injury away from falling off the shelf. IMO the entire season hinges upon how well Morris does his job. If the Ram's have a weakness it's in Morris and his penchant of playing scared. If he simply begins to play his defense more like how Staley played it, this is a Super Bowl team. His problem is he doesn't disguise his defense. His scheme is what you see is what you get. That plays into what Kyler likes. He struggles in reading which is why Staley's D owned Murray. Morris needs to bury his ego and play to the strength of his roster.

I'm glad the media is jumping off the bandwagon. I think the Rams now should come out and play with a chip on their shoulder. Watch how fast the media jump back on when the Rams win this game.

Rams sign two former Rams for Monday Night Showdown

Rams sign two former greats to active roster

Wink Dinkerson, Radish City News

Dec 11, 2021

The Los Angeles Rams have been hit by injuries at running back and cornerback this year at an alarming rate. This Friday they decided to add to their depth by signing two great ex-players. Eric Dickerson and LeRoy Irvin both signed 1-year contracts with their former team. Rams fans will see a familiar jersey number 29 complete with his trademark goggles this Monday night, along with a familiar number 47 on defense.

"Just wanted to help the Rams out by offering my services," a confident Dickerson told us. Henderson has been doing good so far but because of the covid he can't go this weekend. Coach McVay called me up and presented me with the offer and I gladly accepted." He admitted to still missing the classic uniforms from back in the day but was okay with wearing the new helmet next Monday. "The split horn still looks like two bananas, but I won't let it affect my play." We didn't ask him about the penis logo.

Eric Dickerson was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999. He ranks 9th in the NFL in career rushing yards with 13,259, is 2nd on the Rams all-time career rushing list, and still holds the career record of 2,105 rushing yards in a single season back in 1984. When asked if he still had that blazing speed that he was always known for, Dickerson replied "I've been keeping myself in shape for a moment like this. I'm sure I can still bust an 80-yard touchdown at any given moment, but I'm also fine with moving the chains."

LeRoy Irvin sounded like he could still cover the way he did back in the 80's. He's third on the Rams all-time list with 34 interceptions. "Kyler Murray is one of the great QBs this year, but he hasn't seen the likes of me yet. If I get a hand on any ball I always try to take it to the house."

Irvin also returned punts back in his heyday, and had 2 touchdowns in a game vs Atlanta back in 1981. "They want to see what I can bring as a punt returner," Irvin offered. "I'll just follow my blocks and look for an opening. Who knows, maybe I can provide a spark that this special teams unit needs."

Coach McVay appeared giddy at the podium, a familiar look that we've seen this year with other big signees. "Yeah, never say never," an amused McVay told the group of reporters. "These great players were highly talented in their day, we're talking a hall of famer (Dickerson) and an all-pro (Irvin). I'm excited to see what they can bring to our football team this Monday night."

Asked how he will incorporate Dickerson, McVay was candid about the plan. "We'll start Sony in the first series, then bring Eric in on the second one. We may run some base 12 formation and see how that goes. The other guys are excited to have these two great players in the lineup who they've looked up to when they were growing up. Heck I looked up to them both when I was growing up, too."

Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was asked about how he'll platoon Irvin, who picked off 2 errant passes from Rams backup quarterback John Wolford in today's practice, taking one all the way for a pick-six. "We may use him on Arizona's top receiver on some defensive sets. Jalen will continue to play the star position, but Irvin will see a lot of action against their big threats."

The Rams have been getting Dickerson acclimated to the playbook the last 2 days. The Hall of Fame running back was asked if the coaches plan to use any former plays from the 80's that used to spring him loose. "Let John Robinson run 47 gap," he replied with a wink.

SNF - Bears at Packers

Sunday Night Football: Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers

For the 10th time since 2015, the NFL's oldest rivalry will be contested on national television when the Green Bay Packers host the archrival Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field. The Packers (9-3) are not only looking to lock up their third straight NFC North championship (and the fourth since 2016), they're also still in contention for the NFC's top playoff seed. As for the Bears (4-8), they're just looking to stop the bleeding. Not only have they lost six of the last seven games for this season, but they've also lost five of their last six against the Packers. The NFL's "Black and Blue" division showcases its top rivalry in prime time once again.

Sunday Night Football: Chicago (4-8) at Green Bay (9-3)

Kickoff: Sunday, Dec. 12 at 8:20 p.m. ET
TV: NBC
Spread: Packers -12.5

Three Things to Watch

1. Packers still have a chance at the NFC's top playoff seed

Green Bay only trails the Arizona Cardinals by one game in the conference standings and has a mostly favorable schedule ahead of it. After Sunday, the Packers will play arguably their most difficult remaining game when they travel to Baltimore (Week 15). From there they host Cleveland on Christmas Day (Week 16), then wrap up with division games at home against Minnesota (Week 17) and at Detroit (Week 18). It's not too far-fetched that the Packers could finish the season with a 5-0 record.

As for the Cardinals, they have an interesting set of games to conclude the season as well. It starts this Monday night when they play the L.A. Rams in a key NFC West matchup. From there, they travel to Detroit (Week 15) where the Lions look to pull off another upset, then they return home on Christmas Day (Week 16) to host a scrappy Indianapolis Colts team that's contending for a playoff spot of its own. They'll wrap up the season with what should be a tough road trip to Dallas (Week 17), then head to Seattle (Week 18) to play a Seahawks team that's gone 9-5 in its last 14 home games. Both teams could be scoreboard watching during the weeks ahead, and it may take until the final week to decide who the No. 1 seed will be.

2. Can the Bears do anything to stop Aaron Rodgers?

Rodgers famously yelled "I own you" to Bears fans at Soldier Field when these teams played in October, and he wasn't lying. He's 21-5 against Chicago with 57 touchdowns vs. 10 interceptions in those games. In fact, during the last five games, Rodgers has 12 touchdowns and no interceptions with a 107.5 passer rating.

The Bears have been playing better defense as the season has gone on, though, especially in the secondary. Chicago has held all three of its opponents under 200 passing yards since its Week 10 bye, including Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray. Could this be the game they finally slow Rodgers down?

It's worth noting that the Packers' receiving corps is a little banged up this week. Davante Adams has been limited in practice by a hamstring injury, while Randall Cobb is out after undergoing core surgery and hopes to be able to return for the postseason.

3. What's left for the Bears

Regardless of how they finish the season, all signs point to significant changes being made for this team during the offseason. So for the next few weeks, they'll be playing for pride (ending the losing streak to the Packers), talent evaluation (32 pending free agents on the roster), and the development of quarterback Justin Fields. The 11th overall draft pick has been cleared to play again, and he'll get the start at Lambeau this week. The reaction to his return has been 50/50, as some Bears fans are glad to have him back after Andy Dalton threw four interceptions against Arizona last week, while others think he should sit and wait for next year because this year is a lost cause.

There is certainly room for improvement on both sides of the ball for the Bears. Heading into this week's game, they own the league's third-worst total offense (298.8 ypg) and scoring offense (16.8 ppg) and are at the very bottom in passing offense (173.8 ypg), but they're seventh when it comes to running the ball (125.1 ypg) which is something that Matt Nagy doesn't do enough of. On defense, the Bears rank 23rd against the run (120.1 ypg) and 19th in scoring defense (23.9 ppg). But they rank in the top 10 in both pass defense (207.8 ypg, fifth), and total defense (327.9 ypg, ninth).

Final Analysis

Green Bay has a 102-95-6 lead in this all-time series and has won 10 of the last 12 overall in this series. The Packers have also won each of their last five home games against the Bears. The Bears are certainly headed for an offseason of change, while the Packers continue their march to the postseason and easily win this game.

Coaches and players turning on Urban Meyer

I know there are people that hate the man, and I don't use that word normally but in this case it's true. I don't care about his off the field stuff tbh this is about how he's treating players and coaches. Sounds like he's on the way out and how bad of a coach do you have to be to get fired in Jacksonville with that horrible owner in your first season? Trevor Lawrence came out this week and publicly backed James Robinson who was obviously benched after his fumble vs us. Now tweets like these are coming out. How long until he's canned?
