Scariest Dlineman, Not Named Aaron Donald

I think the most unstoppable Dlineman in the NFL is AD, but what other guy out there do you feel your QB is most vulnerable?

Some might pick a speed edge rusher like TJ Watt, but not me. The guy who has always shook me because it felt like Goff was so vulnerable to a crushing sack that our Oline seemed powerless to stop, is/was Cam Jordan of the Saints. It's not quite the same with Matthew Stafford because he seems to have better awareness than Goff and more escapability.. I believe Cam was on the All 2010's HOF team for that decade.

Who is the one current DT/DE that plays for a different team, that scares you in a game.?

I'm really liking our CB depth

I believe it was John Madden who once said "you can never have too many CBs." In today's pass happy league, that is even more true than when Madden (yes, kids... he was a coach and a commentator before he was the namesake of a video game!) conveyed this wisdom.

With that in mind, I just wanted to type this out and look at it:

Jalen Ramsey
Troy Hill
David Long, Jr.
Robert Rochell
Decobie Durant
Derion Kendrick

I like that.

You start, of course, with Ramsey, who is a Top 3 player at the position. Then you have a couple of veterans in Hill and Long who, though not world-beaters, have a great deal of experience in the Rams' system. Add Rochell, who probably has the best measurables of any player on the list other than Ramsey (and seems to be coming along). Then round it out with two feisty rookies who have looked good in preseason.

I'm not even certain of the depth chart at this point, and I'm certainly not certain how it will evolve over the season. What I am, though, is confident that this group can play at a high level and be part of what I think is going to be an excellent defense this year.

Annoyed with this 8 wide receiver stuff

There are 4 that should be locks: Kupp, Robinson, Jefferson, & Atwell

there are 4 that are intriguing but in all likelihood will never pass 800 yards in a season EVER: Powell, Skow, Cutch, & Harris.

you do not hold on to excess “maybes” just in the hopes one hits. You use judgment and wisdom to choose the best 2. each brings something different and as coaches you must picture it as one piece of the entire puzzle.

enough with 8 or even 7.

my choices: cutch and Powell. special teams and real wide receiver skill set from a small school versus blocking and size/speed measurables..

The others might find end of the roster spots elsewhere, and they may not. I doubt either ever even surpasses 500 yards in a season.

Worst Bad Movies

So this thread is intended as a companion thread to the one started by @AvengerRam.

In this thread, feel free to share a movie you saw that was bad AND you hated it. Just a terrible movie with no redeeming qualities.

For me, one that jumps to mind is the 1981 "Caveman" movie, with Ringo Starr, Shelly Long, Barbara Bach, and the Tooz (John Matuszak). I was probably only 11 or 12 when I first saw it on HBO, and I remember thinking, "Wow, this is amazingly unfunny. There is absolutely nothing remotely interesting or original here. Heck, im just a kid, but the "humor" in this movie is so childish it's beyond boring."

So just now I re-watched the trailer, and I gotta say, it's just as awful and unfunny as I remember from 40 years ago.

Anyway, what are some of your all time WORST movies?

Jonah Williams

When he was a rookie I really had high hopes for him. But he remained buried on the roster because of his lack of technique. The Texan game IMO was his coming out debut. Could he be that DE replacing Lewis? IMO he can. He's faster and he's showed how much he's developed beyond simply relying upon his bullrush. That spin move he used against the Texans was a thing of beauty. No way he gets released.

Greatest Bad Movies

The critics don’t like them. You can’t argue their merit as fine cinema. But you love them anyway.

Here are some of my favorite bad movies:

The Last Dragon
When I ask… who is the master of bad movies, you say…

Xanadu
Shut up! I love ELO!

Road House
Be nice… until its time not to be nice.

Flash Gordon
Shut up! I love Queen!

Billy Madison
That is correct!

What are yours?

Manti Te'o Untold on Netflix

Has anybody seen the Manti Te'o two-parter on Netflix yet?

Fascinating.

I could only remember the fake girlfriend bit and there was clearly so much more.

And not really being into the college game, I didn't quite realise how good he was at that level.

The guy comes out of it as an outstanding human being.

The twist at the end of part one was jaw-dropping.

Jake Hummel Love

I know it's only two games but I just wanna point out that Jake Hummel is leading the pack.

Hope to see him do well and be a good backup LB. Played decent in Iowa States 3-3-3 Defense

Love to see Iowa State alumni do good, Go Clones!

At this Point My 53 Prediction

OFFENSE (26)

XWR Robinson, McCutcheon
YWR Jefferson, Skowronek, Atwell
ZWR Kupp, Harris, Powell (returner)
TE Higbee, Hopkins, Carter

LT Noteboom, AJ Jackson
LG Edwards, Anchrum
C Allen, Kolone
RG Shelton,
RT Havenstein

QB Stafford, Perkins, Wolford
RB Akers, Henderson, Funk, Kyren Williams

DEFENSE (24)

DE Lewis, OLB Hollins
NT Gaines, Robinson, Jonah Williams
DT Donald, Hoecht
JACK (SAM) Floyd, Garrett

MIKE Wagner
ILB Jones. Gervase

RCB Ramsey, Long
LCB Rochell, Kendrick
SCB Durant, Hill

SS Rapp, Fuller, Lake
FS Scott, Burgess, Yeast

ST (3)

P Dixon
K Gay
LS Orzech
PR/KR Powell, Williams

Probable PS Candidates

OG Snyder
DT B. Brown (3 game suspension)
ILB Rozeboom
DE Copeland
OT/OG Brewer
OT Arcuri
WR Trammell

The Rams could open a spot on the 53 by carrying only 2 QBs with the 3rd on the PS. Perkins will not clear waivers that much is very clear. Wolford might, however. If not they can sign Perez to the PS. If you are starting a QB from the PS your season is over anyway. They might try trading Wolford for a 5th or 6th round pick. Wolford is all he's going to be right now. He's a decent backup QB that's it a tier 3 player. Perkins has the talent to be a tier 2 type of QB. Who knows how long Stafford's arm will hold out? I'm guessing no more than 3 years. Perkins could allow the Rams to make another QB trade in 2025 if Stafford's arm deteriorates. I have tendonitis in my shoulder so I know what I'm talking about. Yeah, he might be fine now but how will he be in 3 years? Perkins can be a starter or a bargaining chip. They won't have that with Wolford.

Personally, I think they carry 3 QBs this year and try to trade Wolford next year. Next year Wolford will be a RFA too expensive for a backup in LA but affordable to another team who might be looking for a bridge QB. If they release him this year both Seattle and particularly SF might see him as a good bridge or backup option. But even then he wouldn't pose the same threat level as Perkins. Like I've been saying Perkins can improve his arm strength with proper physical training. That is the only thing keeping him from being a mid-tier two QB.

Looks like it's time for AJ Jackson and the other OL to step-up.

What happened to our OL?

What a difference a week made.
WTF? I was feeling great about our depth on the OL, but I guess the texans are super bowl bound. How else do we account for last night?

Our backups play against our #1s all the time.
We’re a super bowl winner.
Our defense is pretty good.
No way the OL should have looked that bad vs starters from the texans. Even last game mvp OL Anchrum looked lost. It wasn’t just getting beat or being overmatched, it seemed like a lot of befuddlement. I recall two very ugly plays where Anchrum was turning in circles looking for someone to block—meanwhile, Wolford was being sacked.

What are your projections now?

Rams '23 Draft

Just thinking out loud after a couple of preseason games.. Where do you see the Rams investing in next year's draft?

I think OL, DL/Edge and RB will be the biggest areas to address in next year's draft.

The Rams could have a 2 3rd rounders and a 2nd.. depending on whether they make a trade for a pass rusher at the deadline.

If they keep that 2nd.. I see it being an edge or DL.. and one of the two 3rd rounders will be an OL.
I know they like to have a lot of picks.. and they have a bunch in the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds.. lots of swings to be had. I see more OL picks, RB(s) and DLs.

I can't see any reason why they would pick a WR.. I expect Kyren Williams to be the K/P returner next year... they probably will draft a DB or two because of potential contract losses, though I do wonder how many they'll lose. I think they'll end up keeping either Rapp or Scott.. and I'm hoping it's Scott. And we'll see if Troy Hill is kept around.

On OL.. best case scenario next year could be Bruss growing up a TON and being a starter.. Anchrum taking a big leap this year and being a starter.. and Jackson growing enough to be the RT.
That'll create a huge need for quality young depth. We'll see.

Then there's always the backup QB question.. will there be a chance to bring in a guy who could actually develop into a starter?

Always fun to just look a head a little on this.

GAME DAY Preseason Week 2 - Texans at Rams

Rams vs. Texans Preseason GAMEDAY

The Los Angeles Rams face the Houston Texans in Week 2 NFL preseason action from Sofi Stadium on Friday. While the 2022-23 Rams squad mostly stayed intact from last season, there are some new faces as LA begins its defense of the Super Bowl LVI title.

Most starters will not play, including quarterback Matthew Stafford, who underwent an elbow procedure this offseason. Both quarterback Bryce Perkins and wide receiver Lance McCutcheon look to build off solid performances last week. Undrafted rookie McCutcheon is making a strong argument to be included on the team’s initial 53-man roster ahead of the regular season.

After the game in the locker room, coach Sean McVay told his players that “no one showed up more” than McCutcheon, who finished the game with five receptions for a game-high 87 yards.

The Rams beat cross-town rival Los Angeles Chargers 29-22 in their preseason opener, on the same field where their Super Bowl dreams came true in February. With regular season approaching, evaluating rookies and roster-hopefuls will continues vs. Houston.

INJURY NOTE: Running backs Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson will sit out with injury. McVay described the issues as 'soft tissue injuries and provided no timetable for their full returns to practice.

“We're just being smart with (Henderson) and Cam (Akers)," McVay said, adding that they will sit until they are "100 percent.''

WHO: L.A. Rams vs. Houston Texans

ODDS: The Rams are 3-point underdogs to the Texans.

GAME TIME: Friday, August 19 2022 at 7 p.m. PT

LOCATION: SOFI Stadium (Inglewood, CA)

TV/RADIO: ABC7 | ESPN LA 710 AM | 93.1 JACK FM | TU LIGA

THE FINAL WORD: Aaron Donald on teammate Stafford after practice on Tuesday:

“He's doing good, throwing some good passes, great passes," Donald said. "Obviously accurate, good balls, obviously. I'm trying my best to get after him and stay away, not get too close. But he looked good out there.”

Rams/Bills Opener Will Test Differing Preseason Philosophies

As we are all aware, the Rams under Sean McVay play few, if any, starters in preseason games. This approach has worked well, as the Rams are 5-0 under McVay in season openers, and have amassed a 16-4 record in the first four games over that span.

The Bills are taking a different approach:

So, how might this impact opening day?

Certainly, if the Bills suffer any injuries to starters in their game against the Broncos, there will be cause for criticism.

Apart from that issue, though, which is the better approach?

I'd say it depends on the team. I'd say that, for teams like the Rams and the Bills, who are returning their key starters on teams that are deemed contenders, the Rams' approach makes more sense. A team with a new QB, new system, or significant roster turnover might need more preseason reps. Teams like the Rams and the Bills can hit the ground running.

So... are the Bills making a mistake? Time will tell.
