YouTube TV completes deal for NFL Sunday Ticket

YouTube TV nearing deal for NFL Sunday Ticket

NFL Sunday Ticket was first launched back in 1994, giving football fans unique access to any game they wanted to watch. It has become a massive streaming service that millions have taken advantage of each season, only many have long been upset with the fact that DirecTV is the only company that offers the service. This is due to an exclusive agreement with the NFL.

In 2023, that will be changing, with the current DirecTV contract expiring at the end of the 2022 football year.

This has sparked a whirlwind of bidders, including everyone from Amazon, to Apple, Disney, ESPN, Google, and YouTube TV, all tossing their hats in the ring for the most attractive NFL streaming service available.

It appears we’re finally reaching a conclusion after months of negotiations between the NFL and the various streaming platforms. For those looking for plans while they get an extra workout in on their exercise bike next season, you might have to add another subscription service to the pile.

According to Joe Flint of The Wall Street Journal, YouTube TV is in “advanced talks” with the league to obtain exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket. And a contract agreement could be reached as early as Wednesday.

Yet there are complications, as the NFL owners are required to agree and approve such media rights agreements. But then again, with rumors that the NFL is seeking an amount nearing $2.5 billion per season, getting the owners on board with an influx of cash flow shouldn’t be an issue at all.

It’s been said that DirecTV currently pays roughly $1.5 billion per season, so if the NFL can get YouTube TV to meet their asking price, it would be a huge boost. This increased revenue would go toward a number of things, including leading to a larger salary cap. But really, this new Sunday Ticket agreement would be a huge win for the fans as long as it’s run smoothly.

YouTube TV currently costs $64.99 per month, and Sunday Ticket would simply be another add-on option for subscribers to tune into. It’s safe to say if YouTube TV can secure the NFL’s exclusive rights, their number of subscribers would spike to the moon.

New Prescription Glasses

Let me ask you guys, do any of you have the Flexon brand frames? I am retired now and have purposed to be patient and not demand same day service. I want the non-reflective old guy coating to reduce glare at night. I want the photo gray/transition lenses that go dark in the sunlight and then become clear inside. (I really regretted not getting this feature last time). The Flexon frames are supposed to be able to be twisted and return to it's original shape, which would make them more flexible and therefore more comfortable? How about it, any of you have Flexons?

A few thoughts to share this morning…

In no particular order of importance, just a stream of consciousness thing…

Warning: I’m not gonna be holding back in this post.

Great to hear Stafford declare that he’s NOT retiring. That’s huge.

Rams must invest in a RB this offseason. Trade, FA, draft, I don’t care, anymore. My personal preference would be the draft. We just can’t go on like this. Fortunately, this is a deep RB draft.

Rams currently can’t run and can’t pass. Look no further than their OL. Even Hav is now struggling. No choice but to play out the string with these current guys, but damn! It’s ugly to watch, isn’t it?

I’m done with Allen. Heart of a lion but he can’t stay on the field, therefore he’s largely useless. Shelton would be an upgrade but Rams might go trade, FA, or draft for OG/OC anyway.

As I’ve posted in other threads, I believe Rams OL can be fixed with addition of just 2 players (plus return of health by guys already on roster). So fixing OL is not the Impossible Dream.

We, in effect, don’t currently have a functioning TE corps do we? Even Higbee has disappointed. Speaking of Higbee, his departure this offseason is probably on the table as a topic of Ram coaches discussion. I’m serious. This TE situation has been weakening for years without being recognized and dealt with by Snead/McVay. Almost unforgivable.

Hoecht is not the answer at OLB. Sorry. I love his effort but Rams need a lot better.

Thomas and Hardy did nothing to stand out last night. If they did I sure missed it while blinking my eyes. I was hoping for at least a flash or two…. Edge remains a very high priority for the offseason. Probably the highest priority.

Rams sure miss their healthy AD. Duh! Changes the whole dynamic on D and opportunities for opposing OC’s.

Wagner was a brilliant signing. He’s exceeded my lofty expectations. Probably MVP on D this year. Not his fault that team is struggling, that’s for sure.

Hill is a goner and I won’t miss him (or his tackling).

I was hoping for more from Durant. Rams need him to show something in these final 3 games if he wants to be prominently included in their ‘23 plans.

Did Lake get any snaps other than ST? If not, why not? Isn’t this the perfect opportunity to see what these kids can do? Maybe just 5 snaps or so? C’mon…

I love Gay and really like Dixon. Both are locks for extensions.

Okay, here’s where I may upset a few of the brethren but I’ve gotta call them as I see them. Sigh…

Snead and McVay may both be overrated. There, I said it.

Here’s why I suggest this.

Yes, it’s true that Rams have suffered terrible injuries on their OL, not to mention WR and their secondary as well. Doesn’t help to lose Stafford and AD either. But other teams have suffered many injuries, too, and they’re still in contention for the playoffs. Rams were such a team just last year.

Rams are also guilty of making some non-optimal personnel decisions over recent years via draft and FA (pretty diplomatic there, huh?). In addition, Rams coaching decisions have become more puzzling of late. McVay’s asst coaches currently are not of the same caliber as in recent years, either. Rams assistants used to be considered great teachers and rapid developers of young talent but that now seems to be gone. Hell, it seems like now they can’t develop ANYONE.

So, what am I saying? Certainly NOT that Snead or McVay need to be replaced. That would be foolish. But I AM suggesting that both men do some soul searching of their respective methods and results and come up with a game plan to correct their respective mistakes. Both need a course correction.

Snead has GOT to draft better and McVay has GOT to fix his anemic O and get his corps of assistants back up to their previous standards. Might want to rethink some of the current strategies on D, too.

There are holes at certain position groups that should NEVER be there if the two decision makers were paying proper attention.

Backup QB
RB
TE
Edge
CB
S

I might add that Rams OL has not been able to run block well for several years.

I hate seeing all the injuries as much as anybody else does, but if one thinks that the Rams woes are all attributable to injuries then one has simply not been paying enough attention. Some of these problems have been worsening for years.

Poor drafting or poor coaching? Or both? The results speak for themselves.

NFL Flex scheduling for week 18, contest?

They should be quite a few games week 18 with playoff implications, what 3 do you see??

Pick a Saturday 3pm, 8:15pm and Sunday Night 8:15 (EST estimated game times)

"For Week 18, two Saturday games and the Sunday night game will be announced no later than six days prior to January 9. The schedule does not list Saturday games or a Sunday night game in Week 18, but games with playoff implications will be moved to those time slots. Flexible scheduling ensures quality matchups in all Sunday time slots in those weeks and gives "surprise" teams a chance to play their way into primetime."

The games with current Records and brief overview:
Tampa Bay 6-8 at Atlanta Falcons 5-9- Lets make Tom Brady "heroic" for leading his team with a losing record towards the playoffs- PUKE
New England 7-7 at Buffalo 11-3- Wouldnt the Nation just love to see Belichick get his ass kicked by Buffalo backup? Maybe not but I would!
Minnesota 11-3 at Chicago 3-11- Vikings tuning up for their 1st round exit while the world hopes to get a glimpse of Nathan Peterman, for the last time ever
Baltimore 9-5 at Cincinnati 10-4- That SB hangover really holding back the Bungles this year while Lamar proved why he should and shouldnt be given big $$$
"Not LA" Chargers 8-6 at Denver 4-10- Brandon Staley spending half the game working on strategy, the other half on brushing up his resume
Detroit 7-7 at Green Bay 6-8- The city where nobody wants to ever go to vs the QB who everyone, including his own mother hates
Houston 1-12-1 at Indianapolis 4-9-1- Wouldnt it be sooo cute to have the Colts play on a Saturday? Yeah, me neither
Kansas City 11-3 at Las Vegas 6-8- KC forfeits the game, but McDaniels still figures out a way to lose anyway, completing the embarrassing loss Trifecta
NY Jets 7-7 at Miami 8-6- Zac Wilson in town trying to meet Gisele while McDaniel is interviewing 50 year old former porn stars for Jimmy G to meet, *just in case*
Carolina 5-9 at New Orleans 5-9- The fact that this could actually mean something is both funny and tragic. Hopefully Saints lose on a last second play
NY Giants 8-5-1 at Philadelphia 13-1- Eagles backups pound the Giants and remind them about when they were whining about playing Eagles playing backups....
Cleveland 6-8 at Pittsburgh 6-8- Only thing exciting here would be a debate over who treated women worse, Watson or Roethlisberger
Arizona 4-10 at San Gofuckyourself 49ers- Just both teams die Mom always said, if you cant say something than dont say anything at all. So,
Reigning SB Champs at Seattle 7-7- Pete Carroll is praying to god that he doesnt need this game to make the playoffs, while Karen is upset I brought up religion
Dallas 10-4 at Washington 7-6-1- Brings back memories of childhood, tossing the football in the backyard or playing a game of Cowboys and Ind Commodes
Tennessee 7-7 at Jacksonville 6-8- Looked up the definition of "Meh" in the dictionary, and it had this game listed

20 R-r-random Th-th-thoughts from Green Bay

1. I’m back in Madison, fingers thawed and a few hours sleep, ready to share my tale from the Frozen Tundra.

2. For those playing at home, the answer to “whose jersey number will match the temperature at kickoff” is Tutu Atwell!

3. I was surprised how college-like the atmosphere was at Lambeau. Fans standing throughout (Rams stadium seats I bought barely used) and really into the game despite the Packers’ losing record.

4. True to Midwest stereotypes, the crowd was also very nice, polite and welcoming.

5. I did have a moment of friendly banter with nearby fans who gave my son and I some good natured barbs. I told them how cool it was that the Rams just recently won a trophy, and there is a statue with the same name outside Lambeau! They laughed, but I could see them silently counting the number of years since they secured the same prize.

6. In all, I definitely recommend Lambeau as a destination.

7. I could do without the three hour return drive through a snowstorm. I’ve been driving for decades, but most of it has been in Florida. If there’s a thunderstorm to navigate, I’m your man. Blizzard? Not so much.

8. Not a heck of a lot to say about the game. The relative play of the two OLs seemed to me to be the difference.

9. Baker Mayfield did hold the ball too long on several plays - a problem he’s always had.

10. Still like the idea of Mayfield as our number 2 next season.

11. Cam Akers has some nice plays. While I certainly think we need to bring in a new RB next year, I also think Akers is worth keeping on his rookie deal (assuming he’s willing to compete for/share snaps).

12. Atwell looked like he was having some trouble with the weather and hearing footsteps, but he can take the top off a defense. He should have a role next year.

13. Brandon Powell plays hard, but he’s just not fast enough to make an impact in the roles he fills.

14. Greg Gaines is a must-keep guy.

15. Leonard Floyd desperately needs help, but he’s another keeper.

16. Bobby Wagner keeps making noticeable plays. It occurred to me, though, that Ernest Jones really doesn’t.

17. I’ve seen enough of Riley Dixon. Time to start scouting college punters.

18. The game conditions were cold, but my chill during the game came from the inescapable conclusion that this has been a lost season.

19. I still think this team has - or will have when injured players return - a lot to work with next year. There are holes to fill, no doubt, but I’m still optimistic.

20. Nowhere to go but up! Of course, that’s better than trying to make a lateral move. Just ask the Patriots! :sunglasses:

Hey Ram fans

You guys played with heart last night and you were making me nervous in the 4th quarter that you might make a comeback. I don’t think we played all that great and your defense did a good job shutting us down until the 3rd quarter then the 4th you shut us down again. You guys like I said before are good people and I wish you the best going forward. Your still the Super Bowl champs until February too. Merry Christmas to you guys and I love you all!

McVay’s Game Day Call Sheet

Is it against the rules for the opposing team to have a powerful camera getting pics of it during the game?

From there it would seem you could identify the situational sections he is calling from and anticipate plays.

Sometimes I swear I can almost read his call sheet on TV from my living room. What keeps the opposing team from grabbing their own high definition pictures of it?

Baker is..

Playing his heart out and I appreciate that but man do miss Stafford slinging that rock to Kupp. I hope they come back and kick ass next year along with AD. Last year was so much fun, this year wow what a bummin ass struggle fuck. Sorry guys im just down about it. Peace.

Season Officially Over?!

Thought I read that the Rams had some kind of MINUSCULE hope of making the playoffs if they won their last 4 games??? Well, IF that was true I guess the Packers put that dream to rest!!

Just so hard to believe that this is the same team that won the Super Bowl last season!!

Just way too many obstacles (INJURIES, etc) for the Rams to overcome!!!!

Hope the Rams can work some miracles in the offseason so they can return to playoff form next season!!!

3-4 or 4-3????

With the possibility of having a new DC coming would switch to a 4-3 be in the future for the Rams?

Drafting later are there more players that fit the 4-3 scheme available? We seem to be having problems finding guys to fill that 3-4 OLB position.

How would the change work with the guys we have? Would AD be a DE in that alignment, that might diminish his strengths.

Wagner would be the MLB, who would be the 3rd LB?

GAME DAY SNF - Giants at Commodes

https://athlonsports.com/nfl/sunday...-vs-washington-Commodes-prediction-picks-2022

New York Giants vs. Washington Commodes: NFC East Rivals Aim to Break Tie on SNF

The Washington Commodes have had plenty of time to think about how their last New York Giants matchup ended in a tie. After a week of rest, Washington gets the rare opportunity to play a division rival back-to-back, looking to finish the job against the Giants this time with a likely NFC Wild Card bid on the line.

According to Football Outsiders’ Aaron Schatz, the Commodes’ playoff odds improve to 86 percent with a win. If they lose? It drops to 21 percent. The Giants face a similar model, jumping to 90 percent with a win against the Commodes but falling to 31 percent with a loss.

Both teams enter with a record of 7-5-1, holding the sixth and seventh seeds in the conference. Whoever wins holds the equivalent of a two-game lead on the other with three games left to play, earning a crucial head-to-head tiebreaker as leverage in case Seattle (7-7), Detroit (6-7) or Green Bay (5-8) get hot and fly past both teams.

“This is an opportunity,” Commodes head coach Ron Rivera explained to his team this week. “And we’ve got to focus in on it.”

While the Commodes have been busy prepping, the Giants are licking their wounds from a 48-22 dismantling courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles. Just 1-4-1 in their last six games, with that win coming against the worst team in the NFL (Houston), the task ahead for New York appears daunting. The 10-3 Vikings and a return date with the 12-1 Eagles loom large on the schedule after this one, although Giants head coach Brian Daboll tries not to inflate the importance of any matchup.

“I view every game as a ‘must win’ game,” Daboll said this week. “That’s why you go play them. It’s the next game, it’s important, it’s against a division team. We got to go out there and play well.”

Who will have the edge in the rematch? Can the Giants find the mojo that had them win six of their first seven games this year? Or will the Commodes take charge and continue their recent surge into playoff contention?

Three Things to Watch

1. How much healthier will Washington be after the bye?

An extra week for Washington did wonders for their offensive line, which already lost starting center Tyler Larsen to a season-ending knee injury. All but one player on the injury report practiced in at least a limited fashion, and only five carry an injury designation heading into this game. The Commodes should get starting offensive linemen Sam Cosmi (ankle) and Trai Turner (knee) both back in the lineup. Quarterback Carson Wentz has been activated from injured reserve after his ring finger injury, but he'll back up Taylor Heinicke going forward.

On the defensive side, buzz is building defensive end Chase Young will make his season debut on Sunday night. A limited practice participant this week, Young has been off the field for more than a year after suffering a catastrophic knee injury in November 2021. He's officially questionable but is probably more like to play than not.

“Still taking it one day at a time,” Young told reporters this week. “When I’m ready, I’ll be ready.”

It feels like that answer will be “yes” with the season on the line for the Commodes. Even in the unlikely event Young doesn’t suit up, the ability to heal up this late in the season gives an edge to Washington as play shifts to its home turf.

2. Can Saquon Barkley recapture the magic?

It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out who drives the Giants' offense. During their recent 1-4-1 slump, the former Pro Bowl running back had 152 yards on 35 carries in the lone win against Houston.

In the other five games? Barkley has a total of just 205 yards on 73 carries, a woeful 2.8 yards per carry average as teams have ganged up on the run. What’s worse, he almost missed the Eagles game with a stinger injury suffered in practice although Barkley is no longer on the injury report.

The Commodes did a good job of containing Barkley earlier this month, limiting him to 63 yards, 3.5 yards per carry, and a lone first-half touchdown. Just three of those yards came in the second half and overtime as the Washington defense clamped down; the Commodes are now ninth in the NFL against the run and fourth overall in total yards allowed (310.5 yards per game).

For his part, Barkley is trying to downplay the recent slump, a full participant in practice this week and noting it’s the healthiest this oft-injured star has been this late in the season.

“I feel pretty good,” Barkley said Thursday. “I don’t feel no better or no worse than anyone else who is in Week 15. I feel the same way. I put a lot of work in my body. I put a lot of money in my body. I’m just happy. Last couple of years I haven’t been this healthy in December. I’m healthy and I just want to go out there and try to make a difference for my team.”

Three years ago, Barkley had one of the most explosive performances of his career against Washington: 22 carries for 189 yards and a touchdown on the road. The Giants need that, and then some, to keep pace Sunday night.

3. Heinicke vs Jones: Who makes fewer mistakes?

Two weeks ago, Washington jumped out to a 10-0 lead on the Giants before their offense fizzled out. By the end of the half, the Giants had tied the game at 13 before a strip sack on Heinicke to start the second half left the Commodes on their heels. They spent the rest of the second half fighting back from a 20-13 deficit before Heinicke drove the team to a game-tying touchdown with less than two minutes to play.

That’s where Heinicke separated himself from fellow young quarterback Daniel Jones, who started out hot but couldn’t put it together when it mattered down the stretch. Both men fumbled once, but Heinicke’s mistake was more costly (Washington earned just a field goal after Jones’ turnover). Jones also had the higher completion percentage (80.6 to 65.8) and edged Heinicke out on quarterback rating.

Both teams believe their signal-callers are underrated, game managers who thrive in making the most of their available weapons. But Heinicke has had some success in big game moments while Jones remains unproven; just two of the Giants' seven victories this year have come against teams with winning records. Washington has galvanized under its young QB, getting hot after a 1-4 start to the season appeared to leave the playoffs little more than a pipe dream.

On the Giants’ side, assuming Barkley remains less than 100 percent, that puts the pressure on Jones to get the job done. Can he spark this Giants offense after some ugly play against the Eagles? His first half there included no drive longer than 30 yards and just one touchdown after the Giants were gifted field position after a blocked punt. By the time his team hit the locker room, the Eagles were up comfortably, 24-7.

Final Analysis

Both teams are anxious to avenge a tie each side treated like a loss. The difference for the Commodes is they’ve had an extra week to get healthy and only watch film surrounding their most recent matchup. The Giants? They’ve been stripped of momentum and confidence after a deflating performance against the Eagles.

It’s hard to see the Giants regrouping on the road versus a team that’s 6-1-1 in its last eight games and beat those very same Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field one month ago. While the Giants had a solid start to the season, their playoff hopes appear to suddenly hinge on whether everyone else around them fizzles out.

Washington won’t be one of those teams.

Prediction: Commodes 27, Giants 24

Here are my Ram needed position upgrades in order to be a SB contender…

The good news is that some of these upgrades are already on the roster.

In no particular order:

Backup QB. Mayfield would be perfect and my personal favorite option. Not only a tremendous upgrade but a quality starter if Stafford can’t go. But if not, then SOME upgrade over Wolford and Perkins must occur.

RB. Duh! I’m talking definite starter here. Great draft for a RB, though. No FA’s, please.

OC. Could draft OG/OC stud with a high pick. If not, Shelton is an upgrade over Allen if only because he stays healthier.

LOT. A high draft pick if one falls or a solid FA works for me. Otherwise, Jackson is an upgrade over Boom here.

LG. Could be Jackson if Rams acquire a new LOT. If not should be the OG/OC suggested above, leaving Shelton at OC.

RG. By default it would be best of Anchrum, Bruss, Brewer, or ???. Not sure any are an upgrade over Shelton in ‘23, though. Gotta cut corners somewhere, I guess.

TE. This position has become a wasteland. It’s officially embarrassing. Even Higbee and his salary might be expendable. Might need 2 TE’s. Great draft for TE’s, though. Snead has never drafted a solid TE. Rams can’t even run 12 personnel sets right now. Gulp.

Edge. Just absolutely, positively gotta have one. FA, trade, draft, who cares? Probably Job One for Snead this offseason. Reportedly a pretty good draft for edge.

CB. Gonna be some shuffling here this offseason. Unless Rams are comfortable with Durant as starter opposite Ramsey they must do a FA or draft pick for a starting CB.

S. Rams are weak at this position after expected UFA losses occur. Fuller can’t stay healthy, Scott is a UFA, and Rapp can’t cover. Other than Edge, this seems our biggest weakness on D.

I haven’t dealt with pending UFA’s much. Gaines, Gay, and Dixon seem like locks to be extended. Others, not so much. Rams might be forced to sacrifice some players, in fact, they’ve already started the pruning.

A few ‘upgrade players’ are already on board and under contract. Jackson, Shelton, some combo of Anchrum, Bruss, Brewer, and possibly Durant.

However…

That leaves a ton of needed upgrades that must come from outside via trade, FA, or draft.

RB
LOT or LG or OC (I’ll count this as just one acquisition based upon above suppositions)
TE (maybe 2)
Edge
CB
S

IOW, Snead has to hit on those 6 positions this offseason. And if he replaces Higbee then he needs a 7th hit.

Mathematically doable with 10 draft picks, some shrewd contract restructuring to free up a bit of cap room for FA, and maybe a 2nd tier trade here or there. But Snead needs to step it up with his drafting this time. ‘Pretty good’ won’t be good enough.

Meanwhile, McVay needs to shake up his asst coach staff. Recent results demand that, at least. Probably his own Job One project.

If the above are accomplished then I think Rams are back into SB conversations. Some are critically important, others are merely HIGHLY desirable. We’ll see if both Snead and McVay can get their acts together so Rams can hit the ground running come September.

Where did I go wrong?
