Los Angeles Rams: 2023 NFL Mock Draft Via Clutch Sports

Los Angeles Rams: 2023 NFL Mock Draft

2nd round 36th overall pick: EDGE, Felix Anudike-Uzomah

For their first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Rams can get one of the best edge rushers who could still be available by the time Los Angeles gets its turn to name its selection. Anudike-Uzomah, a product of the Kansas State Wildcats program, is viewed to have a considerable NFL ceiling. Aaron Donald isn’t going to be great forever, and even if with the fact that he can still a huge problem for offensive linemen, he’s not going to do it all by himself in rushing quarterbacks. With the Rams also releasing Leonard Floyd back in March, it would be a great idea for the team to pick a pass rusher in the second round. In his final two years with the Wildcats, Anudike-Uzomah recorded 19.5 sacks and eight forced fumbles.

3rd round 69th overall pick: CB, Garrett Williams

Williams is far from a finished product, but his skills and athleticism are so tantalizing that a little more polish in his approach to the game could eventually lead to towering success in the NFL. The Syracuse Orange product is especially effective in zone coverage and combined with his aggressiveness, he does look like someone who will be a problem for opposing receivers once he gets it together in the pros.

3rd round 77th overall pick: RB, Tank Bigsby

The Rams still have Cam Akers and Kyren Williams, who could be a breakout star in 2023. However, Los Angeles could use the 2023 NFL Draft to shore up the depth of their running back room. Enter Auburn Tigers running back Tank Bigsby, who rushed for 2,903 yards and 25 touchdowns on 540 carries during his three years in college. Bigsby knows how to use his size (6-0, 210 pounds) to find his way to the end zone, though, he is still going to need to improve his pass-catching skills. Despite playing behind a relatively mediocre offensive line during his days in Auburn, Bigsby was able to produce plenty of touchdowns and average 5.4 yards per carry. There is definitely promise in the former five-star recruit.

5th round 167th overall pick: TE, Josh Whyle

There’s not a lot to like about the Rams’ tight end group. Sure, they still have Tyler Higbee, but behind him are Brycen Hopkins and Hunter Long. Higbee is clearly Los Angeles’ TE1 in 2023 but he’s also got just one more year left in his deal. The Rams can prevent the TE spot from becoming a bigger problem down the road by adding someone like Josh Whyle of the Cincinnati Bearcats. At 6-6 and near-250 pounds, Whyle amassed at least 326 receiving yards and garnered a total of 15 touchdowns in his final three years with the Bearcats. His blocking skills will need some work, but that’s one that can certainly be addressed.

5th round 171st overall pick: OT, Jordan McFadden

After a season in which they ranked last in offensive quarterback sack rate, the Rams could turn to the NFL Draft to add talents to their pass protection unit. At 23 years old, Jordan McFadden is ripe for the NFL. He is a fighter in the trenches and one whose foot speed and quickness should translate well in the pros.

5th round 177th overall pick: OT,Ryan Hayes

One thing you need to know about Hayes is that in his final season with the Michigan Wolverines, he did not allow a single sack. He should get attention in the deeper rounds and could be a quality pick for the Rams in the fifth round.

6th round 18nd overall pick: S, Jason Taylor II

The Rams lost cornerback Jalen Ramsey and safety Taylor Rapp in free agency, so their secondary should have space to accommodate a newcomer even after the addition of cornerback Shaun Jolly. Taylor is coming off an impressive senior campaign in Stillwater, as he capped his college career with six intercetions and 99 combined tackles in 2022.

6th round 189th overall pick: TE, Will Mallory

Two tight ends in one draft? Why not. Mallory figures to be an intriguing prospect. He doesn’t exude star quality yet, but he appears to as someone capable of delivering anything a team needs from a tight end.

6th round 191st overall pick: WR, Keytaon Thompson
Keytaon Thompson struggled to produce in 2022 in part because of an injury, But when healthy, he can be a versatile weapon for the Rams’ offense. He started out as a quarterback in college before getting converted to the role of a wide receiver wiht the Virginia Cavaliers.

7th round 223rd overall pick: QB, Max Duggan

Max Duggan led the TCU Horned Frogs to an appearance in the last College Football Playoff National Championship Game, and while they got destroyed in that contest by the Georgia Bulldogs, the quarterback still left quite an impression. He’s not on the same tie with the likes of CJ Stroud and Bryce Young, but as seventh-round pick, he can be a project and a a QB insurance for the Rams.

7th round 251st overall pick: DT, DJ Dale

Dale played four years with the Alabama Crimson Tide. During his time in Tuscaloosa, he racked up 10.5 total tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks (4.5 in his last two years).

Michael Hoecht

I've liked this guy since he was a rookie. I posted how his tests and times compared to Donald when he played inside. As a rookie he was 6'4" weighed 297 lbs and ran 4.67. If he loses 20 lbs and gets to at least 290 lbs he can shave time off his 40 and his quickness. He can be a monster on the edge. This is why I wonder if the Rams are targeting Van Ness or Keion White at 36. Van Ness is 6'5" 158 lbs and runs a 4.58, but Keion White could be another edge like Hoecht, because White is 6'5" 285 lbs, and times at 4.78 (faster than Chandler Jones).

Michael Hoecht has tremendous upsides and now with game experience and a full TC at his new position, this guy can be an important part of the Ram DL. IMO his emergence allowed the Rams to part ways with Floyd. Hoecht is the kind of edge that can give them solid outside pressure and once he learns the nuances of the position he has the quickness, size and strength to set a hard edge. If they can get a bookend edge to pair with Hoecht the Rams will have two good edges that would force runs inside.

I'm glad to see Michael being given a legit shot and I don't think he will disappoint. With AD, Hoecht, Murichison, and a rookie edge they could have a pretty good DL. Murchison flashed last year so he's not to be taken lightly. We know Fuller is solid, and Durant flashed last year as well. Rochell played well as a rookie starter but Morris benched him in favor of two slow CBs in HIll and Kendrick. Hill is gone and Kendrick is benched. It's why I see a 3rd round pick going for a CB.

Both Snead and McVay talked about leaning on the young guys I know Hoecht is one of those guys along with Durant on defense. On offense, they will be looking at Thomas, Bruss, and Long. Shelton and Jackson have validated their worth.

When I say there is more talent on the team than most realize, Hoecht is one of the more important pieces in that equation.

Any positions we are NOT drafting?

I can't ever remember a Rams' draft where I thought EVERY position on the team could use reinforcements.

An argument can be made for getting help at:

QB
RB
WR
TE
OT
OG
C
DT
DE
OLB
ILB
CB
S
K
P
PR
KR
LS

My question for y'all... is there ANY position that you think doesn't require help?

Only one I can think of is FB, since we don't use one!

I'm glad we have 3 superstars and a prodigy HC and a solid organization... but just amazing how many holes on this roster.

DRAFT CONTEST (With a prize for the winner!)

The rules are simple:

1. Select 10 prospects.

2. For each prospect on your list who is selected by the Rams, you receive points in an amount corresponding to the round in which the player is selected (ie Round 3 selection = 3 points).

3. As a tiebreaker, answer the following: at what number will Mazi Smith, DL, Michigan be selected?

I will send the winner this commemorative Orlando Pace rookie card:

Good luck!

A Real Nightmare

I've been lost in thought today, spurred on by California Senate Bill No. 94. It's a bill that would reduce
or commute the sentences of the state's most violent felons. Murderers and rapists could be released
and one of those who could be released is my friend, Guy Musladin.

Guy was my next door neighbor in my High School years. We would play baseball and jaw each other about who's
MLB team was best, the Dodgers or the A's? Guy's Dad was an ex-minor leaguer and could still hit a baseball
a ton in his 50's. My most fun time was in 1988 when it was the Dodgers vs the A's in the World Series
and the Dodgers won against a powerhouse team. Guy's Dad was a good sport and gave me an Orel
Hershiser rookie card afterwards (they were all A's fans).. Anyway, I knew Guy off and on for 10 plus years.

He was convicted of 1st degree murder for slaying his ex-wife's fiancée around 1994. I moved from NorCal to Oregon
in 1989 and was working like a dog at the time and had no idea what happened. I communicated with
Guy one time from prison and he told me his side. He said that his ex-wife had custody of their little boy
and was living with the fiancée. According to Guy, the man was a drug dealer and was becoming an
unwelcome part of his son's life. He went to pick up his son for the day and had an altercation with the
boyfriend and Guy ran out to his car and got a gun from the glove box and ended up shooting and killing
him. Guy says that his shot was a ricochet that killed the boyfriend (court agreed). He explained that there
were drugs and guns involved with the boyfriend, but evidence had been excluded by the cops at
the scene.

Guy was a very passionate young man and he was crazy about his son. Would he kill someone that was a
perceived threat to his son? Yeah, I think so. Hell, I would probably do the same. The victim's friends and
relatives wore picture buttons of the dead boyfriend during the trial which gave Guy grounds for an appeal.
He won the appeal (California Court of Appeals), but lost again in the US Supreme Court (Carey vs Musladin).

My friend has been in jail or prison for 29 years which is basically his whole adult life. I wasn't in court to
hear all of the evidence and I am biased due to my relationship with him. Would the young Guy I knew be a
danger to society now? No, I don't think so. But this happened when he was 24 years old and now he is 63 years
old.and I don't know what prison life did to him. I lost contact with him over the years which is on me. There
didn't seem to be any hope for him getting out because he was sentenced to life without parole, but now he
seems to be qualified if that bill passes. Is he "institutionalized" like Brooks was in Shawshank Redemption?
Unlike Red, I'm not waiting for him on a Baja beach, refinishing a boat like Andy Dufresne. I have thought
about him for years, but I don't know what to do. His Dad died of a broken heart soon after he was convicted
and I don't know if there is anyone left to help him if he gets out. He may have deserved it, but I don't know.
It's certainly a nightmare.

Dan Snyder Agrees to Sell Washington Commodes for $6 Billion

Josh Harris, an owner of the N.B.A.’s Philadelphia 76ers and the N.H.L.’s New Jersey Devils, agreed in principle to buy the Washington Commodes for a record $6 billion from Dan Snyder, the longtime owner of the team plagued by scandals that drew investigations from the N.F.L., Congress and other government agencies.

With the end of Snyder’s tenure nearing, the N.F.L. can begin to distance itself from a painful chapter in its history and right the future of the popular franchise, which under Snyder had been tarnished by accusations of a toxic workplace and an inability to secure a new stadium.

The sale, first reported by Sportico, was confirmed by a person with knowledge of the agreement who was not authorized to speak publicly about the terms.

Your Top 10

Inspired by @AvengerRam 's post, I'd be interested to see everyones personal top 10 prospects in this draft specifically for the Rams. This should include guys we most likely have zero chance of sniffing, but that you think would be fantastic draft choices for our team.

Here's mine:
  1. Will Anderson, Edge - Best edge in draft, by a margin
  2. Devon Witherspoon, CB - Best CB in draft and my personal favorite prospect
  3. Peter Skoronski, OL - My favorite OL prospect, can likely play 4 positions well
  4. Adetomiwa Adebawore, DL - Incredibly versatile and athletic. Can play any number of DL positions and even edge IMO
  5. Anthony Richardson, QB - Only the most athletic QB in history, 2 years behind Stafford and McVay teaching him and he could be a massive threat
  6. Bijan Robinson, RB - Best RB prospect in many years, does it all
  7. Joey Porter Jr, CB - Big touch CB to help fill gap left by Ramsey's departure
  8. Calijah Kancey, DL - Another pass rusher from the DL to help Donald. Yes please.
  9. Christian Gonzalez, CB - Thought I'd like him more, but his tape isn't amazing. Still 3rd best CB in draft though and incredible athlete
  10. Jalen Carter, DT - More then willing to gamble on this massive talent

Of the Rams draft visits, who excites you?

By no means do the Rams simply draft only players from their draft visit list but usually there's 1-3 guys on the list that they end up drafting every year. Who among this years list get's you excited??

I'm particularly intrigued by Adebawore, McDonald (just can't see him being there for us), Schoonmaker, Torrence (again, can't see him there for us) and Trice.

Smith is intriguing, I have to think that's a curveball whereby they must have entertained a trade up scenario for him since the guy seems to be a mid-1st round but perhaps the media is wrong on him and he's a guy who could slip cause of his size.

Rams Uniforms: What new alternate combination does the fanbase want?

The Los Angeles Rams are scheduled to roll out a new alternate uniform for the 2023 season. Originally, the team was suppose to unveil the new combination last year, however due to supply and demand chains, Kevin Demoff and the organization pushed the reveal date back a year.

The anticipation for a new uniform could come at a great time. LA needs to inject some life and energy into the fanbase after a disappointing 2022 season and quiet 2023 offseason. Rolling out a new jersey combination should excite fans. The anticipation should be on the horizon as Los Angeles previously unveiled its uniforms in May 2020 and July 2021. We should have an answer soon in the next month or two. The only question is what will it be? And what is the L.A. Rams fanbase hoping for?

ALL-SOL COLOR RUSH ALTERNATE

LA already has all-royal and all-bone combinations, so why not use the color rush theme and create an all-sol uniform? The move would definitely fit the Los Angeles vibe and atmosphere. And when watching games on TV, the Rams would clearly stand out. Back in 2018, the Rams rocked the color rush unis en route to a historic Monday Night Football win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

ALL-WHITE THROWBACK ALTERNATE

If not sol, then it has to be the all-white throwback, right? This design would pay tribute to the 1960 and 1970 LA teams, featuring the Fearsome Foursome. Imagine Aaron Donald getting to wear this type of uniform to replicate the dominance of Deacon Jones. LA’s 2021 alternate was tied in with the 1980 uniforms donned by Eric Dickerson. This would be another great opportunity to pair modernism with the franchise’s history.

Untitled_Artwork-1-1180x664.jpg

ALL-BLACK ALTERNATE

Los Angeles could shake things up and go the blackout route. Black jersey tops have been floating around on the open market since Super Bowl LVI for fans to buy. It would be surprising for LA to choose this option since teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commodes, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, Atlanta Falcons, and New Orleans Saints. But if the league is trending with this style, perhaps LA jumps on board...

IMG_4110-1180x664.jpg

Whether the Rams organization goes with one of these options or another route, we should know soon. After the 2023 NFL Draft, fans could be looking to purchase new threads and this type of announcement should bring energy back to SoFi and LA fanbase.

Rams Anagram Crossword Quiz (hard!)

It's a long boring offseason, so...

I enjoy puzzles involving word anagrams. So here's a quiz for y'all. Fair warning, they're pretty hard.

Note regarding answers:
If you can, please hide the answers using the "spoiler" feature. Ideally I'd like for the answers to not be revealed for about 48 hours, so posters can make their guesses and give it a shot. In the meantime, feel free to post something like, "I figured out #'s 3, 4, and 6, but I'm still working on the others." I'll plan on revealing the answers on Thursday.

Puzzle rules:
1. All answers are an anagram of "LOS ANGELES RAMS." So, all puzzle answers contain 14 letters.
2. All clues are presented in the style commonly used in crossword puzzles.
3. All puzzle answers are three words long.
4. Just to help keep track, here's a list of the 14 letters in each correct answer: S,S,S,L,L,A,A,E,E,O,R,M,G,N.

Puzzle Clue example with answer and explanation:

Clue: Gollum didn't jog as much.

Answer: Sméagol ran less.

Explanation: "Sméagol" was the original name of the "Gollum" creature in Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings. And "ran less" is synonymous with "didn't jog as much." As always, the answer has 14 letters, with 3 s's, 2 l's, 2 a's, 2 e's, and one each of o, r, m, g, n.

"My precious," indeed!

Now, on to the quiz! Some of the clues and answers use R-rated juvenile humor, just to liven things up. Remember, all answers contain three words. Helpful hint: make a list of the 14 answers letters, and once you've figured out one of the words, cross off its letters so you know which ones remain.

Here's the 8 puzzle clues:

1. Sun's splooge whore

2. 12th letter organizes non-winners

3. Gain knowledge of butt's clay figures of folklore

4. Born as "ski race on bare hill"

5. In addition, not quite as Deutsch

6. Young lady mutilates iron deposit

7. Ram # 54's ejaculation bargain (Note: this answer contains an apostrophe)

8. Secret Service screws Spanish ship

Okay, there you have it! Hey @AvengerRam, I'm counting on you to give this a shot, since I know you like puzzles. Here's hoping a few other posters give it a try also.

If anyone else wants to create their own anagram clue to "LOS ANGELES RAMS", I'd be happy to try to guess the answer.

Interesting TE thread...

Login to view embedded media View: https://twitter.com/HaydenWinks/status/1645909474220326912

I wish we could see the breakdown of out wide vs in the slot and the total rankings here. It seems like McVay has been trying to find a TE to regularly put out wide since Everett. I didn't think LaPorta did much out wide but I think I was wrong about that.

Both guys we've met with have high inline targets. It does seem like we're looking for Higs replacement in this draft. Would be curious to see where Schoonmaker and Payne landed in out wide and slot targets list too.

Sadly, I suspect that many of us looking for a sexy move-TE weapon will be disappointed. But a scenario where we come off the board with a high quality edge, CB, and mostly inline TE in the 1st three picks wouldn't make me cry at all.

Question. Is building a competitive roster in ‘23 even doable, realistically?

I wonder.

Let’s make a few assumptions, first:

Snead pulls off a coup and manages to get 2 trade downs giving Rams a total of 5 picks in Top 100-120. This might be a stretch.

Let’s further assume that all 5 are ‘hits’, meaning quality starters. Not Pro Bowlers, but at least solid starters in ‘23. Another stretch.

Let’s assume that of the remaining 8 picks one third are solid contributors. That would be a third stretch, I think.

I’m also now assuming that Rams will fill out P, K, and LS for ST from udfa’s or ranks of unemployed cheap vets, rather than spending valuable picks on 2 of them.

So, after these assumptions, where does that leave us? It leaves us with 8 picks that ‘make it’ and a whole butt load of 3rd tier vets to fill in the cracks, that’s what.

What rookie staters at what positions might we wind up with, realistically?

Let’s see…

OC
OG
Backup TE
Backup RB
Edge (maybe 2)
DL
CB
S

Oops! That’s 9 right there. Maybe only one Edge or skip the OG?

Anything more must come from the scrap heap.

Backup QB
Another Edge
ILB
Another CB (or 2)
Another S (or 2)
More depth for DL
WR (depending on AR’s fate)
P
K
LS

These are not just for the 90 in camp, these are for the 53 during regular season!

See the challenge?

We all know that Rams have thought this through, but it seems obvious that they have left themselves little margin for error. Snead has got to have the draft of his life PLUS an outstanding finishing FA to fill in the cracks. Gulp…

Want a silver lining? I do think McVay has assembled a quality asst coaching corps and that they will do a good job of rapid player development. They’re gonna have to really earn their money, that’s for sure.

And pray that Snead can pull off that hypothetical double trade down on Day 2. Without that, the scrap heap becomes even more important. Goodness.

Thoughts?

Rams Trade Rumor? Aaron Donald Seen With Dolphins Mike McDaniel

Don’t shoot the messenger! Lol

Rams Trade Rumor? Aaron Donald Seen With Dolphins Mike McDaniel

After an offseason trade of Jalen Ramsey to Miami, a tweet started speculation that Donald could soon be joining.

In this story:

LOS ANGELES RAMS
The Los Angeles Rams have had a rather busy offseason, an offseason that has so far been headlined by the release of Bobby Wagner and the trade of star Jalen Ramsey.
Login to view embedded media View: https://twitter.com/espnnfl/status/1644891347181092865?s=46&t=KwDPB8g3_dITEcMZZq9_mQ

It was also another offseason filled with early speculation surrounding both Sean McVay and Aaron Donald, and the possible retirement of both. However, both confirmed their commitment to the Rams for the upcoming season.

Of course, even with the confirmation from both Donald and McVay, rumors will still swirl - especially after Donald was spotted at a UFC event hugging Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel.
This video would likely be nothing of note normally, but the Rams and Dolphins have already done business once this offseason in the aforementioned Jalen Ramsey trade.

As a result, there was immediate speculation that another potential trade was in the works between the two teams to send the superstar defensive tackle to Miami to join Ramsey.

Of course, even though the Rams traded Ramsey away this offseason does not mean they would be inclined to do so with Donald. Not only that, but a package for Donald would likely require a package that the Dolphins may not be able to afford.

Until Donald ultimately retires, whether that's after next season or three years down the road, there will be offseason rumors surrounding his future not only with the Rams but in the NFL.
For now, though, Donald is a Ram - and that likely will not be changing for the foreseeable future.

Robert Rochell names his Rams 4x100 team and it's a fast group

Robert Rochell names his Rams 4x100 team and it's a fast group

Even if the Rams’ roster is looking thinner than usual right now, this team still has some speed to burn. There are some fast players on both sides of the ball, from Tutu Atwell to Cobie Durant.

Pro Football Focus posed the question of which team could put together the fastest 4×100 team and Robert Rochell chimed in with his picks for the Rams.

He went with himself, Van Jefferson, Atwell and Durant, feeling confident in that group against the rest of the NFL. It’s a pretty fast team, too.

Jefferson hit 21.5 mph at the Senior Bowl when he was coming out of Florida, while Atwell ran a 4.32 at his pro day. Rochell ran a 4.39, which is impressive at his size, and Durant had the 11th-fastest speed of any ball carrier last season (21.5 mph), according to Next Gen Stats.

With Jalen Ramsey gone, this would be the fastest group for the Rams in a 4×100 event, and it would put up a good fight against any other team in the NFL.

Looks like we are digging in deep and taking a hard look at these QB's later on in the draft.

Aidan O'Connell (Pro Day) and Clayton Tune (workout) are two prospects it looks like we have an interest in. Once it seemed like Mayfield wasn't coming back at the beginning of March I started looking at these late round QB's but low and behold I only had to look at these two posters:

Jan17
I like Clayton Tune a whole lot, I've seen plenty of his games and am not sure why folks say he lacks arm strength
Release is super quick and the kid has some wheels.

Feb 21
So much love for Mike White, so much love. I agree that White would be a viable backup QB along with drafting a more athletic QB that can use his legs like Jaren Hall or Clayton Tune.

As to Baker, seems that Washington would be a good landing spot as we can see what Eric Bieniemy can do, when he's actually calling plays.

Credit for you two chums, I should have been reading our forums instead! You mentioned him in January and February!lol

Anyways, I've warmed up a lot to O'Donnell as of late, I just been kind of locked in on Clayton Tune, guy seems like a baller and has some dog in him. 2 years behind Stafford? Yes thank you!

Screenshot (6).png

I'm just sold on his last two years there, 3 to 1 and a 4 to 1 TD/INT ratio with a 67.8 avg. comp% and that's not even his best attributes IMO, Clayton can process very fast.

I wish I watched games of his last season, @dieterbrock what did you notice watching whole games?

PS he has met with 1/4 of the league already and we have flew down to Houston to work him out.
