Crazy Camp Predictions

So as we move past the draft and into the camp window what are the situations you see occurring that everyone will be surprised by. Doesn't have to just be the Rams. Let's hear your predictions.

Here's one that I think has a real good chance of occurring:

Matt Corral, who I have told the Rams on numerous occasions they should have traded for, will give Young everything he can handle in their camp battle and show very well for Carolina in preseason. Because Frank is a pussy (good coach but a bit lacking in the balls dept) he will of course start Young. But it's going to be one of the more entertaining storylines in camp this year and they're going to benefit when they move Corral post-camp for much more than what teams would have paid during the offseason.

Good draft: my take

This was a very good draft IMO. It filled all the holes except PK which tells me they have already decided who they will sign, either vet or UDFA. The bottom line is that IMO this could easily make the Rams very competitive for the division title.

OG Avila: A day one starter at LG. I see him moving inside to center in 2024.

Edge Young: He has elite traits and offers a clear upgrade to Floyd at JACK. Really surprised when he fell as far as he did. He has first round talent.

DT Turner: I see him as Donald's understudy as he plays in rotation at 3T.

QB Bennett: Undersized but talented QB. Does not project as a franchise starting QB but does project as a solid career backup. A clear upgrade to Wolford.

Edge Hampton: I think they will use him as a SAM (strongside OLB) in the way they used Ebukam. For strong side contain and as a blitzing LB.

OL McClendon: Listed as a OT and projects as a RT or RG. Like Havenstein he struggles with heavy feet (i.e. struggles against speed). That is why I can see him being converted into a OG at this level. If he can make the transition this year he can offer the Rams an option at OG when Avila moves to center in 2024.

TE Allen: offers the Rams a blocking TE that they haven't had since Mundt left. That said Allen would appear to be an upgrade as he can function as a receiving TE as well. He probably bumps Hopkins off the roster.

WR Nacua: He is a possession type receiver in the mold of Skowronek and would seem to bump McCutcheon off the roster to the PS. I also see this as another indicator of McVay moving the focus of his offense to move the chains and being more selective as to when they take their deep strikes.

CB Hodges-Tomlinson: He is a clear SCB with good speed and agility for the position, and well suited for a zone heavy secondary. I think he bumps Kendrick back to dime DB.

Edge Mathis: I think he bumps VanValkenburg back to the PS. His role would be depth but primarily STs.

RB Evans: RB3 with day-two talent. Injury concerns but fills the need for a bigger RB. Could easily be RB2 if needed should Williams go down. Plays faster than his timed speed. Good value for the pick.

P Evans: Small program player with a decent average. Can also provide depth at PK if needed. Not who I would have taken but the Rams obviously scouted him well.

SAF Taylor: He has enough speed to offer some positional flexibility. Good tackler, but prone to mistakes in this reads. I see him as a developmental player offering STs value in the short term.

DL Johnson: Listed as a DE but seems more suited as a 3T. Played all DL positions in college. More quick than fast. He can be very disruptive when playing inside. That said he's raw and needs development. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as a PS project play for a year perhaps two.

We must strike while the anger is hot. :explode1:

Aubrey Pleasant is gonna have to earn his scratch this year...

It doesn't look like we'll have much in the way of reinforcements for our secondary this season.

Taylor is raw and missed tackles may not get cleaned up. Tomlinson may be a steal but he and Durant will probably be battling it out for nickel roles with one of them having an outside chance to take a role on the perimeter... but I wouldn't bet on it.

We may very well pick up a veteran cut at CB for an outside spot opposite Rochelle/Kendrick. Fuller is fine if he stays healthy and Yeast/Lake are unproven.

Here's hoping that Pleasant is a hell of a teacher!

The Nicest Moment That Ever Happened...

to me.

I transferred from Portland, OR to Wichita, KS to marry a girl. We met on the internet and dated through email. We asked each other questions and got to know one another, each sitting at our computers and responding immediately to the conversation. I asked her to marry me in 1997 and she said yes. Soon, I left with my Camry packed tightly with my things. I arrived at her house in Kansas and I met her the first time face to face after I drove into her garage. I said "Honey, I'm home. Just promise we will never go on Geraldo." The next day we went to get married before a judge, wearing Ray Ban sunglasses on his head, with my wife's Brother and sister in law as witnesses. This was very sweet and nice, but the best would happen the next day.

We called her parents the night before and she introduced me to her Mom and Dad. Her Mom sounded nice, but skeptical. Her Dad was blunt and gruff like a Kansas farmer who hates talking on phones. I didn't mention the tight ass suit I had worn for our wedding with a tie. We drove straight from the wedding to her parents farm. Her Dad was 6 foot 5 inches and was still a very strong man in his 70's, wearing a constantly pissed off expression.

I thought, He's gonna kill me.

I sat at the kitchen table with my wife and my mother in law. Her father sat across from me, not saying much, when he suddenly got up without a word and went into the other room. Is he getting shot gun, I wondered. I was sweating to death in that suit and the tie was choking me half to death .He returned with a photo album and placed it on the table before me opening it on the table. He said very gently, "Let me show you your family"

I was blown away by his unexpected kindness and still am after 25 years of marriage. Remember, they didn't know I existed until the night before. He showed picture after picture, but I didn't see anything because I was still gobsmacked. and relieved. We got to know each other over the years and I loved them dearly..

Well this was the most kind moment in my life. I have had other moments of kindness, but tell a moment of kindness you experienced

A couple of quick thoughts.

Gotta give props to Les for managing our draft position. He managed to close the rather large gap in between our picks by trading down at minimal cost (i.e. we didn't lose out on a Bobby Wagner-type this time) while filling potential voids in the draft process. Wonderfully done.

If there is one thing that can get in the way of completing our next true "run," (aside from Sean retiring) it is ego. I wasn't a fan of how Les handled a recent interview of both he and Sean. I have never seen him come across as so "smug" before. I truly hope it's an overacion from afar on my part. Keep it humble, Les, and stick together with Sean to build for another run.

I honestly think we are in great hands. Just gotta keep the egos in check.
