Rams' Raheem Morris helps save drowning child, credits AED training

  • D coordinator Raheem Morris happened to be in the right place at the right time this past weekend, as he helped save a child who was drowning in a Las Vegas pool.
Morris was at the Encore Las Vegas with his family when he saw a young boy drowning in the hotel pool. According to Morris' wife, Nicole, who posted about the situation on her Instagram page Wednesday, the 3-year-old boy had no pulse when he was taken out of the pool by his father and brought over to a lifeguard.

As the lifeguard began performing CPR compressions, Morris said he rushed over to see how he could help.
"I saw people calling 911 so my first question was, where is the AED?" Morris told ESPN on Wednesday, referring to an automatic external defibrillator, which Morris then ran to retrieve. "When I got back, we had a doctor on site that was able to start the compressions. I was able to hand the AED to him, get it open for him, put the pads on the child, and he ended up being OK."
Morris credited the Rams' recent CPR, AED and first aid training facilitated by Reggie Scott, the team's vice president of sports medicine and performance, for helping him be aware of proper protocols and knowing the importance of an AED.
When an individual is experiencing cardiac arrest, an AED analyzes the heart's rhythm and delivers an appropriate electrical shock to restore the heart to its applicable rhythm. AEDs have become more prevalent after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during a game in January. Hamlin himself spoke at a recent event on Capitol Hill in support of the Access to AEDs Act.
Morris mentioned how Hamlin's situation, as well as the recent tragic drowning of Bucs linebacker Shaquil Barrett's 2-year-old daughter, has helped increase awareness and preparedness among coaches and players for those unforeseen moments, such as the one Morris was witness to in Las Vegas.
According to Nicole Morris' post, the boy her husband helped save was discharged from the hospital 24 hours later.
"I'm just thankful I knew what to do," Raheem Morris said. "You just never know when you're going to need that stuff."

Rams should pursue Mekhi Becton

Becton is not happy with the Jets he ONLY wants to play LT. Salah told him he needs to earn it. Duane Brown took over for MB after he got hurt. He has been hurt for 2 years. He started at LT his first season for 13 games until he got hurt.

He used to weigh over 400 lbs he lost 50+ this off-season. The Jets declined his 5th year option. He could be a cheap get because of the distraction he may cause. He is currently very unhappy. LaFleur knows him and I feel he solves our LT spot way better than Acuri Jackson or Noteboom. Gives us a year to gel the OL and makes the main priority the defense not to mention keeping Stafford upright. All indications he looks really good in camp. My guess we could get him cheap and we all know LTs cost a fortune normally and are very rarely available.

Don't Fucking Do it...

"I don't want speak for Tom ... (But) I wouldn't rule anything out," the Hall of Fame quarterback said.

Aikman believes his relationship with Las Vegas coach Josh McDaniels and his body of work could play a factor in returning to the game of football.

And Brady's part-ownership of the Raiders doesn't eliminate his chances of coming back to the NFL.

Reads like click-bait but my gawd...enough already. Fucking enough...

150lbs Down

Well....I don't quite know how I got here. It was as close to a--Forrest Gump starts his running for no reason--as I could have ever imagined. I never set out to do this. I started in an attempt to quit soda and just figured...well...I've gone this far...might as well try the next thing...so I quit all sugar....then I went that far...so I went ahead and I just quit all carbs and drinking calories period and one thing became another and 25lbs turned into 50lbs turned intp 100 and now here we are at 150lbs lost....its surreal.

I've refused to make it the "Who" I am now...I see that shit on FB and it makes me sick. People changing and its for the better and that's great...but fuck...you doing it for you or for the likes?...(to be clear...this post...all about the likes damn it....150lbs....you fuckers better hit that button!) Anyway, because I haven't really spoken about it on socials at all..it's fun running into people I haven't seen in a while. I began this weight loss in September so...that is a fairly quick amount of time I guess...so i really fucks with people. And I LOVE IT. It does not get old!

The energy is terrific. But, I've found no time for TV. No time for sports. I spend all my free time on my new hobbie....Chickens and Ducks!!!

I think I want to lose around 25 more lbs then loos at maybe some skin removal if I can. Ive maintained tight skin in my chest, arms and legs by working out. But the belly....that's ankther story gents....

I'm rambling now.

Change 5 plays to change Rams history

You have been given the power to change 5 plays in Rams' history.

The only limitation is that you cannot change more than 1 play from any one game.

Mine:

1. Super Bowl XIV: Nolan Cromwell doesn't drop the pick-6 opportunity in the second half.

2. Wild Card Game (2000): Az Hakim doesn't muff the punt in the fourth quarter.

3. Super Bowl XXXVI: Kurt Warner doesn't throw pick-6 to Ty Law.

4. Divisional Round (2004): Wilkins makes 53 yard FG in OT.

5. Super Bowl LIII: Jared Goff connects with Brandin Cooks for game tying TD in fourth quarter.

While only one of those (No. 4) automatically changes the outcome, I'll take my chances with the other four.

What are your 5 plays?

The Navy Ruined Sailors/Marine Fun

More evidence that my Navy was different than today's Navy.

I served in the Navy from 1983-1988. They allowed the sale of 3.2 beer on base to 18 year old squids, because GLNTC was within short distance from Wisconsin where the drinking age was 18 yrs old. Same thing in San Diego where 32nd street Naval base was a trolley ride from being in Tijuana, Mexico. It's no longer true at GLNTC because Wisconsin raised it's age to 21 (the bastids).

It's still a DOD rule, but the Navy decided to regulate the age to 21 years old at every base, regardless of how close it is to a legal state/country. What kind of freakin' stupidity is that? The original rule was an attempt to keep sailors/marines onbase drinking watered down beer on their off time instead of travelling mules away to get a drink, and then come home via car after becoming drunk.

You could (and still can) walk outside the base, catch a trolley to the Mexican border and shortly be in a Tijuana bar getting hammered at 18 yrs old. Of course in TJ you can get as debauched as you want to get. Legal steroids, prostitutes and street vendors selling fish tacos (most dangerous thing in TJ). But seriously, if raising the age to 21 years old base is for Sailor/Marine safety, how safe is it for 18 yr old sailors getting drunk in a foreign town where they will be taken advantage of while drunk? Tell us @Merlin ! I went to Tijuana a few time below 21 years old, but it would have been a much more frequent thing under these regulations.

Memorial Day

I know this is the Rams/NFL thread, but I wanted to remember this day with all of you.

"All gave some, and some gave all"

I was in the peacetime Navy in the 80's and so I never had to risk my life like some of you did. I just want to thank all who served and especially those who experienced combat. My grandpa risked all on Iwo Jima in 1945 and almost died from a chest wound. Many were wounded and died in Afghanistan and Iraq. Hopefully most who were left behind, made it home.

Take a moment to think of those who gave all.

International Travel For Mobility Impaired. Help!

The last time I flew internationally, I was 15 years younger. Now I am considered disabled (SSDI) and am mobility impaired. I am doing Physical Therapy right now so things are getting better, but I still can only walk about 170 steps on a good day, without needing to sit down. That makes a walk through Chicago Ohare almost impossible when connecting for a flight...especially an international one.

Besides the cramped economy seat from Chicago to Frankfurt (most uncomfortable flight ever), the line in terminal 5, where all connecting domestic flights dump their international passengers in one HUGE mass of people and all their luggage and carry ons ( they do not transfer anything when you get on a international flight). I had an hour and a half layover and it didn't look like I would make the next flight because of this line that seemed a couple of football field long and thirty yards wide. Long and short of it is that I can't do it anymore.

They did have a 1st class line where those bastids just rushed by the riff raff like me in economy.
1. Does business class get to avoid this line along with first class?
2. If I am in Economy again, will they push my wheel chair to the front? I have seen videos for domestic flights and not international.

Anyone know? How about you @SWAdude ?

Rams RB Cam Akers is slated for the best season of his young career

Rams RB Cam Akers is slated for the best season of his young career

Back in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Rams used their first selection of the festivities (2nd round, 52nd overall) on a running back out of Florida State by the name of Cam Akers. Akers, who was a 5-star recruit and one of the most sought after prospects coming out of high school, has a very solid career in college despite having one of the worst offensive line units in all of the FBS division.

Akers’ rookie season started off on the slower side, as the RB didn’t really get going until the back half of the season. However, once Akers did catch his stride around the week 13 mark, it looked as if the Rams hit the jackpot with their selection. That season, the offense was very up and down, struggling to find their true identity. Despite the struggles, the squad made the postseason, and in those two postseason games Cam Akers was the focal point of the offensive attack.

In Akers’ first two career postseason appearances, he rushed for 221 total yards and had 2 rushing touchdowns on top of those, averaging 23 carries in those two games. Following the season-ending loss to the Packers, the trajectory of Akers’ career looked as if he was headed straight towards becoming one of the top backs in the entire NFL.

Then, disaster struck, as Akers tore his achilles in the off-season, seemingly ending any chances of seeing him play in the 2021-2022 season. However, despite the horrible injury, Akers battled his way back, allowing himself to return and contribute to the teams Super Bowl winning run. It was clear Akers did not have the same burst as we saw in his rookie year, but the overall resolve Akers showed to battle his way back said a lot about the mental make-up of the guy.

Fast-forward to last season, Akers had a full off-season/training camp of health, and fans were excited to see him back at full strength heading into the year. Folks assumed, well at least I assumed, that Cam Akers would be the bell-cow RB that he has shown he’s capable of being, playing a majority of the snaps in a game and wearing down defenses. Well, once the year kicked off, that was far from the case.

Through the first nine appearances in the Rams first 11 games for Akers in the 2022 season (was inactive for two games), he averaged just 31.7% of the offensive snaps at RB, shockingly low for a guy who many thought would be the starter. There was a rift in the locker room between Akers and head coach Sean McVay, which eventually led to Akers requesting a trade midseason. It seemed as though there was nowhere to go and, with the team struggling mightily, it seemed Akers’ time in L.A. was coming to a sour end.

Then, once the team reportedly turned down multiple offers (which you can believe if you want to), a switch seemed to flip for the running game and Akers alike. Through the team’s final six games of the season, we got a glimpse of the star that Akers can be once again, as he rushed for 512 yards, 6 TDs, 4.9 YPC, with 11 receptions for 99 yards to go on top of the gaudy rushing numbers. In those games, Cam averaged about 74% of the offensive snaps at RB, a complete flip from what we saw to begin the year. Although the season was lost, Akers was found, ending the season on perhaps the highest note possible.

Now, as we head into the 2023-2024 season, Akers is slated to be the uncontested RB1 to start the year off. I anticipate Akers to get 70-75% of the snaps at RB from the get go, something we have not seen in the entirety of his career thus far. The Rams also brought in a mauling guard in Steve Avila out of TCU, which should bode extremely well for the zone running scheme the team deploys. With the overall health/depth of the o-line improving, the running game as a whole could return to the dominance that we saw early in the McVay-era.

Given all the things that Cam Akers has been through, he is still here and ready to ball. Through the injuries and the trade requests, Akers will be the team’s RB1 this season, and he is set up to have a career season assuming he stays healthy throughout the year.

3 reasons why LA Rams ILB Ernest Jones could earn a Pro Bowl nomination

3 reasons why LA Rams ILB Ernest Jones could earn a Pro Bowl nomination

When the LA Rams signed All-Pro veteran inside linebacker Bobby Wagner to the roster, for what was only one season, the impact on second-year inside linebacker Ernest Jones seemed obvious. Wagner was the epitome of NFL football-toughness, intelligence, and ferocity. He was the guy who found the football by instinct and delivered the types of tackles that players would talk about for months afterward.

Ernest Jones may not be on everyone's radar for a breakout season in 2023. After all, even when he was putting up 100 tackles in 2022, there were few who truly sat up and took notice. So just for argument's sake, let's list out Jones's NFL progress so far:

2021 | 15 g | 2 st | 440 snaps | 61 Tkls | 1.0 QB sacks | 3 QB hits | 1 TFL | 2 Ints | 4 PDs
2022 | 17 g | 11 st | 723 snaps | 114 Tkls | 0 QB sacks | 1 QB hits | 4 TFL | 1 Int | 2 PDs | 1 FF

As you can see, he has been developing rapidly.

But will he reach the level of Pro Bowl status? Admittedly, there is a great deal of bias for that distinction. Players who have won the honor before tend to win the honor again, regardless of the performance. If that fails, then there is an East Coast bias to awards. Finally, those players who compete in Prime Time football games tend to attract more attention than those who do not.

We know that Ernest Jones is fighting against the grain on all of those categories. So why do I think that he could earn an NFL Pro Bowl nod this season?

Reason III: He is a veteran of the LA Rams defense

While being a veteran of a defense is not typically a great place to start in arguing why a player will be up for Pro Bowl honors, it applies to ILB Ernest Jones in 2023. Jones is the veteran signal caller of the LA Rams defense, and as such will be tasked with herding cats all season long as young players try to match up against seasoned opponents. Jones will not only have the task of calling plays, but he will become the leader of the defense as well. When the Rams need a big stop, it will be up to Jones to deliver, and those type of plays tend to get noticed.

Reason II: He was mentored by All-Pro ILB Bobby Wagner

Ernest Jones may have played alongside Bobby Wagner for just one season, but you could see a dramatic change in his demeanor as the season progressed. While it was Jones, and not Wagner, who left the field for nickel sub packages, Jones put up similar production to Wagner on far fewer defensive snaps. By the end of the season, Jones was flying all over the football field and was equally punishing on running and passing plays.

Reason I: The Rams need him to have a Pro Bowl season

In the end, it's not the award that matters, it's the level of play that matters. While neither the LA Rams nor Ernest Jones can control who earns an NFL, Jones can play at the level that deserves to place him into the Pro Bowl discussion. Why? Because the LA Rams defense will need him to attain and remain at that level of play.

The LA Rams will be competing with a very young and inexperienced defense in 2023. To win games, the Rams offense will need to put up a lot of points. But even a top-scoring offense won't help if the defense cannot stop opposing teams from scoring. That is where Ernest Jones, as leader of the Rams defense, comes in. Because the team is so young, many of the younger players will be taking their lead from Ernest Jones. Will he be up to the challenge?

If he can get 150 tackles, 2+ interceptions, 8+ pass deflections, 10+ QB hits, and 8+ tackles for a loss, he has a good shot of doing so. How likely is he to put up those numbers? If he doesn't, who else on the LA Rams defense will do so? The LA Rams need Ernest Jones to put up a Pro Bowl season. And Ernest Jones is not the type of player who lets his teammates down.

Partial Retirement ?

So 6 months ago I decided to scale down my remodeling business . No more whole house renos or big siding jobs. I let me employees know back in January that the end was near and to start seeking employment elsewhere. Well, none of them did and I laid them all off before I went on vacation the end of March. My "dream" was to have some reliable guys to do the work on big jobs while I went and handled little things that I was always turning down because I was too busy. Well that didnt happen as I couldnt find anyone reliable enough, coupled with the fact they didnt get shit done while I wasnt there.

So over the last month or so I have been doing small 1 or 2 day jobs, only for repeat customers, taking days off whenever I wanted to and loving life ( and my job) again. No more stress of keeping 4 guys busy, no more estimating jobs and putting in 40 hours a week on site and another 20 or so doing estimates, contracts, ordering etc.

Well the word has gotten out now in my area ( 10k full time residents) that if you have a small job, then call me and I will get it done. Now I find myself trying to schedule shit for 2-3 months ahead again, and it's driving me crazy !!! I have 1 customer who just got back back into town Weds. after wintering in Florida, and they called me today to start planning their kitchen for next fall when they head South again !!!

I'm close to saying fuck it and just quit altogether and get a job at Walmart for $15 an hour !!!

sorry for the rant but thanks for reading

Here’s a list of Rams mysteries that defy explanation or understanding…

I offer these up in the spirit of entertainment and promotion of discussion and in no particular order:

WTH did McVay see in Wolford and Perkins as backup QB’s?

What was McVay thinking in drafting Atwell over Humphrey? And then not using Atwell?

Why did McVay at times last year try to run against good run D teams that were poor on pass D? And vice versa against poor run D teams that had good pass D?

Why was Brown made TE coach?

What, exactly, did coach Samples say or do to get hired as RB coach? (Brown personally chose him, btw).

What really caused the friction between Akers and Samples/McVay?

Why did Bobby Evans keep getting starts long after both Aboushi and Skura had learned the playbook?

Why did Rams start season with only 2 TE’s?

Why did Rams allow Von Miller to stall them until all good FA Edge players were gone?

Why did Morris keep starting Kendrick for 5 games after doctors had cleared Durant to play?

Why didn’t Rams protect sidelines during Brady’s last drive with no timeouts?

Why did Morris have to run the absolute softest zone (prevent) D with 3 HOFer’s on the field? Some soft zone, sure, but far and away the softest? C’mon…

Why haven’t Rams STILL not learned their lesson about Allen’s inability to stay healthy?

We will probably never know the real reasons behind any of the above although I do think that McVay was ‘distracted’ for much of the season and consequently not himself.

Anyway, just some food for thought and/or discussion for y’all…

Rams’ approach to new kicker seems much wiser than NFC West foe 49ers

Rams’ approach to new kicker seems much wiser than NFC West foe 49ers’

Both the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers were in the market for new kickers ahead of the 2023 season, but the teams diverged in the approach they took during the NFL Draft.

The 49ers, already with limited draft capital after their aggressive trade up for Trey Lance in 2021 and after acquiring RB Christian McCaffrey mid-season last year, spent a third round draft pick on Michigan’s Jake Moody. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote in Moody’s scouting report that the young kicker is reliable within 40-yards but struggles with consistency from long range. Zierlein also noted that Moody is adept at kickoffs, though recent NFL rule changes should significantly devalue that skillset at the position. On a one-year trial basis, any fair catch on a kickoff would spot the ball on the 25-yard line similar to a touchback. The NFL cites player safety as the driving force behind the change.

If San Francisco selected Moody as high as the third round in part because of his kickoff abilities, there’s a good chance they are facing a sense of regret heading into training camp. The 49ers used the 99th overall selection on their new specialist. At picks #77 and #89 Los Angeles chose EDGE Byron Young and iDL Kobie Turner, and both should carve out roles as LA embraces the youth movement on defense. While a top-100 selection would play meaningful snaps on LA’s need-laden roster, it’d much tougher for young players to break through San Francisco’s depth chart.

The Rams took a much different approach to filling their kicking void left by Matt Gay’s free agency departure to the Indianapolis Colts: Los Angeles signed two priority undrafted free agents, NC State’s Christopher Dunn and Oklahoma State’s Tanner Brown, and will hold a competition over the preseason. LA has found mixed success through the draft at kicker. In 2012 they drafted Greg Zurlein of Missouri Western in the sixth round who made a big-time kick in 2018 en route to a Super Bowl, but their seventh round selection in 2020—Sam Sloman—struggled out of the gate and was cut mid-season.

Time will tell if the 49ers’ decision to spend premium draft capital on a kicker will prove fruitful, and all eyes will be on the Rams’ training camp competition to see if either Dunn or Brown emerge as a competent replacement for Gay. The careers of these kickers will be closely tied together, and these outcomes could shape the fate of the NFC West over the next few seasons.

Is the Noteboom Experiment Almost Over?

I no longer have any confidence in Boom as a starting LT. He spent all of that time behind Whitworth and filled in for brief periods when Whit was hurt. I don't know his contract details as to whether we can cut him after this season, but I would do it if it was possible. I then would draft the next starting LT in the 2024 draft, with Anchrum/Acuri starting until then. I think this is Joe's last year as a starter in LA, so he has to perform like he never has before.
Reasons why I doubt that he can do it:
1) Durability- I might be wrong, but I can't remember him playing any significant amount of time where he has not gotten injured when we needed him to man that position.

2) Limitations- I don't care what anyone says, Boom can't play Guard. He SUCKS at it. That limits him to LT and he is not solid enough to last there and gets owned by the best pass rushers in NFL.

3)Future- I see him as a back up at LT, exclusively. I will never trust him to last a full season as our starting LT again. I'm tired of relying on him to take over for Whit, like Charlie Brown hoping Lucy would just hold that ball so that he could kick it.

Prove me wrong, Boom. He had enough time behind Whit to bulk up and work on technique. Anchrum or Acuri better be ready.

Keyshawn Johnson: I can name 5 Rams.

Was listening to Keyshawn, Will & Max this morning and I usually don't listen, but I had it on that station and the Rams were the subject and Johnson said he could name about 5 Rams and that is it and 1 of those 5 is McVay. He went on to say they will battle for the basement and fears that Stafford won't make it through the season.

I chuckled a bit because from an outsider's perspective I get it, but with the Offensive Line additions at Guard with Avila & hopefully Bruss plus maybe some more 12 personnel it would be great to showcase once again that individuals that get paid to do their research, really don't or not for the teams they don't think are going to win.
