Pre-season is definitely a harbinger for our upcoming season!

We got smoked in all three games. Especially against Denver. I know you'll say these are scrubs my answer to that is both sides are putting equal scrubs in and out s rubs suck worse by a mile. Many of the 48/53 played and Ben ett has looked bad, our kicker missed 2 easy FGs. Very little positives outside of Evans our punter, Tomillson maybe Allen 1 game and Rivers has looked good.

Our DLine looked terrible pur OLB must be the worst in the league hardly any pressures from any of them same with our secondary.

The offense will be fine, but if we are constantly playing from behind we will be one dimensional and players could get hurt.

This will be a long season too many players on defense not retained or others who are similar not signed causing one side of the ball to be really short.

The Rams conclude their 2023 preseason schedule taking on the Broncos on Saturday at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. pacific time on ABC7.
Here are five players fans should be watching during the contest:
33_Lake_Quentin001

Quentin Lake

#37 DB
  • Height: 6-1
  • Weight: 201 lbs
  • College: UCLA

Throughout training camp and joint practices, Lake has shown a knack for making plays all over the field.

**30 - RB Ronnie Rivers**

Ronnie Rivers

#30 RB
  • Height: 5-9
  • Weight: 195 lbs
  • College: Fresno State

Rivers had two solid days of joint practices with the Broncos – Thursday was the strongest between the two. Saturday is an opportunity for him to continue to build on that.

**42 - P Ethan Evans**

Ethan Evans

#42 P
  • Height: 6-3
  • Weight: 231 lbs
  • College: Wingate

Evans has done well overall as he gains more live reps. His gross punting average of 53.5 yards ranks third among punters who have played in the preseason this year.
**49 - K Tanner Brown**

Tanner Brown

#49 K
  • Weight: 177 lbs
  • College: Oklahoma State

Brown made his lone field goal attempt (25 yards) and both of his extra point attempts against the Raiders. He'll get another opportunity to get more comfortable and show what he can do against the Broncos.
**87 - TE Davis Allen**

Davis Allen

#87 TE
  • Height: 6-6
  • Weight: 245 lbs
  • College: Clemson

Allen was encouraged by being able to produce in the manner he did in his first action of the preseason last week, so it's reasonable to think he's eager to build on that performance in the preseason finale.

I guess I'm just not capable of August dread.

The facts are the facts.

The Rams are coming off a 5 win season.
The team lost four key starters on defense during the offseason.
The team didn't add any top end FAs, and lacked a first round pick.
The start of the schedule is brutal.

I should be feeling a sense of dread, shouldn't I?

And yet, I'm not.

I don't think I ever have at this time of the year.

Sure, there are years when I had more hope and more expectation of contending for a championship than I do this year (I'm eternally optimistic, but even I wouldn't go that far.) But I'm still hopeful.

I tell myself that a healthy "big 3" will make a huge difference. I look for breakout candidates (Akers, Jefferson, Atwell, Jones, Durant). I hold out hope that a few of our many first and second year players will emerge as high quality starters. I put my faith in McVay to steal a few games with superior game planning and play calling.

I feel no sense of dread.

I guess I'm just not wired that way.

Daytona!

Bill, my friend some of you have met, has scored some pit passes for Saturday night's race. We will be in Michael McDowell's pits during the race. That's the 34 car usually sponsored by Love's Truck stops. Should I wear some RAMS gear for TV?

A few current Ram issues that have me scratching my head…

Why are Rams straining to start Boom at RG while Anchrum has been playing well there? Is coach Wendy in charge or not? I’m starting to wonder.

When, oh when will Rams allow their ‘best 5’ OL players to start gelling together? Opening day is just around the corner, dammit!

Will Rams keep 6 or 7 WR’s? And will Xavier Smith be among them as returner? If only 6 WR’s, who will they be? Gonna be some excruciating cuts there.

Will Rams bring in vet Edge?

Why is Derion Kendrick even in the conversation as a starting CB (top 3) after the camp Tomlinson has had?

Has Ethan Evans finally been studying hang time? And is sideline/coffin corner next on his study list? Insert sarcasm alert here.

Anybody have any theories? Or thoughts?

A few notes on re-watch of Rams Raiders....

Re-watched a few plays in the first half in slo-mo while keying on a few guys. Some notes:

Davis Allen had some GREAT run blocks. On a couple plays he really helped spring Ronnie Rivers. Stayed with his guy on a sustained block, several seconds, and took his guy out of the play. If his blocking is as good as his hands? Great. HE may be slow, but his hands and his blocking look REALLY promising.

I'm sorry but on the play where Bruss got injured, he had his ass handed to him. #51 on the Raiders just obliterated him. Knocked him completely off his feet, which is why he had such a sharp angle on his ankle when he tried to recover. We do not want Bruss out there anytime soon.

Quentin Lake with some sweet plays on ST.

Anchrum looked Steady Eddie to me. Avila looks okay-- mainly he's just so damn BIG.

I keyed on Nick Hampton on a few plays and unfortunately I didn't like what I saw. Worst of all, at least twice he was the very last guy on the D-line to react after the snap... maybe he's thinking too much? The knock on him was that he might be too small. Unfortunately that's what I saw. He just got "swallowed up" on several plays. When his first move didn't work, he got stopped stone dead with nowhere to go. To me it looks like he's gonna have to bulk up and add some power to his game, because right now if he can't beat you with speed to the outside he's got nothing else.

A few other random thoughts and observations....

I can't look at the Rams OL coach without thinking "Hagrid."

Skowronek reminds me of Bradley Cooper with a big honkin' nose.

Loved to see McVay fired up and having FUN out there. (He NEEDS to have some fun this year or else he'll burn the fuck out). I loved hearing him drop the S-bomb on live TV.

Whit sure is convinced that Boom is a starter. We'll see.

Nice flashes from VanValkenberg, Keir Thomas, and Bobby Brown.

Ronnie Rivers looks superior to Zach Evans from what I've seen so far.

Glad that Byron Young was held out... shows that McVay wants to save his health for Opening Day.

Nacua didn't play but Skowronek did. Makes me wonder if Nacua has passed Skowronek for the #4 WR spot?

Thoughts and comments welcome

Rams @ Bronco's joint practice

Last I heard this was still one.

Some Jourdan notes from todays closed door practice.

Sounds like a rough day catching the ball for Nacua he had at least 2 bounce off his hands to be picked.

Witherspoon and Kendrick (back at practice) benefited/cause a lot of Nacuas issues and were stellar today.

Tomlinson keeps being a menace

Akers and Williams were good both running and catching the ball

And lastly a direct quote.

  • Kupp made one of the plays of the day near the end of practice. He broke outward on a route and Stafford hit him where only Kupp would be able to grab it – outstretched and toe-dragging right at the sideline. Not much the covering Cobie Durant (or really anybody) could do about that one.

Maxie Baughn has passed

at 85 per Sports Center crawler. A 9 time Pro Bowler and in the College Football HOF.
Should be in Canton, too. Was a great LA RAM at ROLB for George Allen.
I remember when the defense used to wear the railroad engineer caps as Maxie, whom
was the defensive signal caller, was a Georgia Tech grad.
RIP
Prayers for his loved ones.

Truth is..... We don't know.

It's preseason and everyone is forecasting this record or that record for us. We've seen ëxperts "rank" us anywhere from worst roster in the league to sleeper team of the year. And w/ McVay playing mostly guys who won't be in our final 53, we have trouble of understanding what we are seeing. I myself, have a tendency to see the glass as half full at worst. We have a nasty looking schedule, but I think our youth works in our favor because we don't know we're supposed to lose. Seattle eeked out tight wins against a beat up team last year but their no world beaters. Frisco looks tough on paper but has more question marks @ QB than Dangerfield has one liners. Philly has lost a lot on defense. They have up and comers but are they strong enough to replace last year's team. The Chowboys and the Giants have flaws they have to work through. (As all teams do at this point.....) And who knows where the first major injury will change the course of the NFL schedule, The Ravens have a habit of playing down to teams outside of their division. The Browns, Steelers, and Packers all have problems to work through. And the Saints are the .... Saints. Who knows what you get when you play them. Talk about Jeckel and Hyde. The Commodes and the Cards both have (perceived....) problems on offense.

So what happens when Donald, Stafford, Kupp, Jones, Akers, Atwell, Jefferson and Higbee actually hit the field. I really don't have a clue. I don't think we're not as far of removed from our Suoper bowl winning roster. But it's on paper, We don't know how our offensive line will gel. (or not.....). And our secondary is mostly unproven. Not to mention some of Morris' defensive schemes don't always fit the personell on the field. And our worst nightmare would be we can't stop the run and teams simply play keep away and our offense has to step outside it's game plan to create chances to keep up.

So let's buckle up and prepare for a wild ride. We really don't know at this point. And won't find out till at least midway through the season......

Just my 2 cents,,,,,,,
