Bohemian Rhapsody explained

"IS IT A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL?"

Why is the song called 'Bohemian Rhapsody'?

Why does it last exactly 5 minutes and 55 seconds?

What is this song really about?

Why did the Queen movie premiere on October 31?

The movie premiered on October 31 because the single was first heard on October 31, 1975. It's titled that way because a 'Rhapsody' is a free-form musical piece composed of different parts and themes that seem unrelated to each other.

The word 'rhapsody' comes from Greek and means 'assembled parts of a song.'

The word 'bohemian' refers to a region in the Czech Republic called Bohemia, where Faust, the protagonist of Goethe's work of the same name, was born. In Goethe's work, Faust was an elderly and intelligent man who knew everything except the mystery of life. Unable to comprehend it, he decides to poison himself.

At that moment, church bells ring, and he goes outside. When he returns to his room, he finds a dog that transforms into a kind of man. It's the devil, Mephistopheles. He promises Faust a full life without misery in exchange for his soul. Faust agrees, rejuvenates, and becomes arrogant. He meets Gretchen and has a child. His wife and child die. Faust travels through time and space and feels powerful. When he becomes old again, he feels miserable once more. Since he didn't break the pact with the devil, angels contend for his soul.

This work is essential to understanding 'Bohemian Rhapsody.'

The song is about Freddie Mercury himself. Being a rhapsody, it has 7 different parts:
1st and 2nd acts - A Capella
3rd act - Ballad
4th act - Guitar solo
5th act - Opera
6th act - Rock
7th act - 'Coda' or final act

The song talks about a poor boy questioning if this life is real or if his distorted imagination is living another reality. He says that even if he stops living, the wind will keep blowing without his existence. So, he makes a deal with the devil and sells his soul.

Upon making this decision, he rushes to tell his mother and says...

"Mama, I just killed a man, put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he's dead. Threw my life away. If I'm not back again this time tomorrow, carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters..."

The man he kills is himself, Freddie Mercury.

If he doesn't fulfill the pact with the devil, he will die immediately.

He says goodbye to his loved ones, and his mother breaks into tears, tears and desperate crying that comes from Brian May's guitar notes. Freddie, terrified, cries out, "Mama, I don't want to die," and the operatic part begins. Freddie finds himself in an astral plane where he sees himself: "I see a little silhouetto of a man"... "Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?"

Scaramouche is an "escaramuza," a skirmish between armies with horseback riders (4 horsemen of the Apocalypse of evil fighting against the forces of good for Freddie's soul), and he continues, saying, "Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me."

This phrase appears in the Bible, specifically in Job 37 when it says, "the thunder and lightning frighten me: my heart pounds in my chest." Seeing his son so scared by the decision he has made, Freddie's mother begs to save him from the pact with Mephistopheles. "He's just a poor boy..." "Spare him his life from this monstrosity." "Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?" Her pleas are heard, and angels descend to battle the forces of evil. "Bismillah" (an Arabic word meaning "In the name of God") is the first word in the holy book of Muslims, the Quran. So, God Himself appears and shouts, "We will not let you go."

In the face of such a confrontation between good and evil, Freddie fears for his mother's life and says, "Mama mia, mama mia, let me go." They shout again from the sky that they won't abandon him, and Freddie cries, "No, no, no, no, no," and says, "Beelzebub (the Lord of Darkness) has a devil put aside for me." Freddie pays homage here to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Sebastian Bach when he sings... "Figaro, Magnifico," referring to Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," considered the greatest opera of all time, and to Bach's "Magnificat."

The operatic part ends, and the rockier part bursts in. The devil, angry and betrayed by Freddie not keeping the pact, says, "So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? So you think you can love me and leave me to die?"

It's chilling how the Lord of Evil feels powerless against a human being, against repentance and love.

Having lost the battle, the devil departs, and we reach the final act or 'coda' where Freddie is free, and that feeling comforts him. The gong that closes the song sounds. The gong is an instrument used in China and East Asian cultures to heal people under the influence of evil spirits.

It lasts for 5:55 minutes. Freddie liked astrology, and in numerology, 555 is associated with death, not physical but spiritual, the end of something where angels will safeguard you. 555 is related to God and the divine, an ending that will lead to a new beginning.

And the song plays on Halloween eve for the first time. A holiday called 'Samhain' by the Celts to celebrate the transition and opening to the other world.

The Celts believed that the world of the living and the dead were closely connected, and on the Day of the Dead, both worlds would unite, allowing spirits to cross over.

Nothing in 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is coincidental.

Everything is carefully crafted and has a meaning that goes beyond being just a song.

It has been voted worldwide as the greatest song of all time.

This song marked a radical change in Queen, as if they had truly made a pact with the devil, changing their lives forever and making them immortal..."

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

How good is McVay ?

I say, very, very good.
If not him, what other coach would you rather have from the NFL ? I say nobody.
Still the youngest coach and I am a huge fan of loyalty which seems to be going the way of the Dodo bird these days.
Has had us with winning seasons the vast majority of the time and his playoff win-loss is even better. Lots of time-room to grow.
What more could you ask for as a fan ?
Perfect, nope and neither is any other coach that is human and they all are.
The rest of the NFL is full of coaches that just had a cup of coffee with him and many of those are very good.
I lived through Dick Vermiel who was a terrible offensive guy (as was Robbinson, Allen, Knox,Spags, Fisher)
Here is a list of all the Rams head coaches and its so so IMO. To many 3 yards and a cloud of dust types.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Los_Angeles_Rams_head_coaches

Even Robinson knew enough to get Zampese (and what that could have been if we kept ED !)

Hey I yell at the TV when Sean is in 3rd and a short one and we are in the fucking SHOTGUN. Get rid of that, if we can not get a yard give up your man card. Too many things have to go right for a pass play to work on critical short yardage situations. Far less have to go right on a simple running play and do it under center. Runs out of the shotgun suck and always will. As do those stupid WR screens thrown behind the LOS.
We need more slants. Watched Jerry Rice kill us with those for years and it was like you could not stop them.
Pass the ball downfield. Run, run, run early to set up the pass. Yesterdays game does not get away from us nearly as bad if we would have done that.

I mean Vermiel sucked as I knew over half the time what the play would be by formation. Martz won that Super Bowl but them went crazy.
But, was smart enough on first and goal to run, under center in a 3+ wide passing formation where there was room for Faulk to work.
Sean could learn from that. As well as my favorite "deep in" route. Take the best from the GSOT and ditch the rest.

Sorry for the long post but we have it good and some got spoiled. Some of us remember the bad times and yes, I am a homer.
I did not like the total sell out and we are paying for it now so buck up all you guys that said it was worth it.
I would rather be in the hunt every year with "our guys" than sell out every 4-5 years and try and win it all. You can sell out and it might not work, then what ? Could have easily lost that last SB. Then we are left with a bag of rocks and no 1st round picks.
This last SB was great and all but 99s mattered more. No sell out and some long suffering Ram players got it done with a few key acquisitions.
The Rams were in for a Coyboys-Niners "Dynasty" run but Martz lost his mind. Like I said, loyalty matters and we were better off with Warner than Bulger.

McVay, while not perfect is not going to screw it up long term and most of us want to enjoy a 20 year Shula-Belichick ride.
So, pay the man so would be crazy to leave and enjoy the ride.
If some of you want to respond lets keep it civil.

Hockey player Adam Johnson dies on ice

Heard about this but just saw the video. The video is disturbing to see even though it's only a small cut of what happened. Essentially a player from the other team swung his leg up to seemingly kick the other player in the head area. He cut the players throat and he bled out within minutes. A lot of talk about what might happen to the player who injured him and he may be charged with manslaughter. Apparently this isn't the first time this player has played dirty. Idk what to think about it as I don't follow minor league hockey but this is disturbing to watch.

NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) — American hockey player Adam Johnson, who appeared in 13 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019 and 2020, has died after his neck was cut by a skate blade during a game in England on Saturday, his team said. He was 29.

Johnson was playing for the Nottingham Panthers in a Challenge Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers when he suffered the skate cut during the second period of the Elite Ice Hockey League game at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena.

“The Nottingham Panthers are truly devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away following a freak accident at the game in Sheffield last night,” the team said Sunday.

“The Panthers would like to send our thoughts and condolences to Adam’s family, his partner and all his friends at this extremely difficult time. Everyone at the club including players, staff, management and ownership are heartbroken at the news of Adam’s passing.”

A Minnesota native, Johnson spent 13 games over parts of the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons playing for Pittsburgh in the NHL before spending the 2020-21 season in Sweden with the Malmo Redhawks. He had a goal and three assists for the Penguins.

“The Pittsburgh Penguins join the entire hockey world in mourning the life of Adam Johnson, whose life tragically ended far too soon,” the Penguins said Sunday in a statement. “We offer our deepest condolences to Adam’s family and friends, as well as all of Adam’s past and present teammates and coaches. Adam will always be part of the Penguins family.”

Johnson played college hockey at Minnesota-Duluth, helping the Bulldogs reach two NCAA Tournaments. He scored an overtime game-winner in the 2017 tournament, sending Minnesota-Duluth to the Frozen Four by beating Boston University.

He also played for three American Hockey League clubs during his career and in Germany with the Augsburger Panther in 2022-23 before agreeing to join Nottingham for this season.

“Our thoughts are also with the fans and staff of both clubs, especially those who attended or were following the game, who will be devastated following today’s news,” the team added.

“The Panthers would like to thank everyone who rushed to support Adam last night in the most testing of circumstances. Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great teammate and an incredible person with his whole life ahead of him. The club will dearly miss him and will never ever forget him.”

The league announced that all three games scheduled for Sunday in Belfast, Fife and Guildford were postponed following Johnson’s death. Nottingham’s game scheduled for Tuesday also was postponed.

Ian Laperriere, who coached Johnson with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, said it was tough news.

“Great kid (and) teammate,” Laperriere said in a text message. “Only great things to say about him.”
The NHL has had skate cut scares throughout its history, most notably Buffalo goaltender Clint Malarchuk, who took a blade to the neck during a game against St. Louis on March 22, 1989. Malarchuk received rapid medical attention and played again 10 days later.

Many believe that building from the lines out, comes before a shiny new QB who will get Bulgerized without a premium LT

Others feel that you grab the QB when you can because it's the most important position on the field.

Now it's your turn. Tell us the position you'd pick and why.

The Season Went Downhill When Kyren Got Hurt

It all boils down to the fact that we didn't have a sufficient enough running game to begin with. Kyren started as a "two," got upgraded to a "one" when Akers was demoted. Akers demotion and trade were fine, but was never sufficiently replaced. What the heck went down between Mac and Akers? Who knows? But McVay has never paid attention to a significant running game and it shows.

What is McVay's infatuation with his guys?

Freeman consistently outperforms Henderson but McVay keeps coming back to the RB with no power. Look at Rivers on McVay's depth chart in front of Freeman??
Watch when they draft a RB next year he will be another midget with average speed. Sorry but I agree with Akers that he is the better RB over Williams. Akers is faster with break away speed and runs with power. Williams is a good #2 but that's all he is.

Henderson gets 3 yards, Freeman runs for 6. Henderson gets 7 yards Freeman gets the first down. But McVay clearly favors Henderson over Freeman.

It comes back to what I've been saying for years. Goff wasn't his QB so he sabotaged his tenure in LA. When Goff showed he could get them to a SB what did McVay do? He immediately dismantled the OL the very next year and made Goff play behind scrubs. Goff throws INTs and McVay is pissed off. Stafford throws 3 pick 6's this season and crickets from McVay. McVay will only support his guys. Sean's favoritism is my biggest criticism of him. He's a brilliant coach but favoritism is his weak point.

It's why he doesn't see a problem with Raheem playing his boy DK who can't tackle, can't cover gives up TDs and game changing penalties every game, but starts? So far McVay is losing this season primarily because he simply won't adjust.

I need help with my dog

We rescued a Havanese dog that was one of our puppies that we gave away 7 years ago to an elderly couple. We received a call from the wife asking us to take "Cuddles" back or her husband was taking him the next day to be put to sleep. We couldn't allow that so we took him back. Cuddles loved the man and apparently hated the woman. He barked at her constantly and nipped her at times and it seems that he regards me and my wife the same way. the little guy loves me and barks at my wife most of the day unless I yell at him or pick him up to be held.

My wife has been very patient with him even though he has bitten her several times. He wags his tail when he barks at her and, believe it or not, he stands near her wanting to be picked up and comforted by her when a thunderstorm is happening because he's scared of the thunder claps. Once the storm is over, he separates from her her and resumes the barking. I've tried yelling and squirting him with water with very little success. My wife feeds him and gives him treats and we figure that some of the barking is telling her that he's hungry. He's a little dog weighing about 6 pounds. I love him, but I expected him to love us both and I'm sad my wife doesn't get to enjoy him like I do. We were breeders of Havanese for 17 years, but we've never experienced a dog like this.

Any humane ideas that may help to at least stop him from barking at her?

The McVay Offense: Scoring

Including postseason:

From 2017 to 2019 the Rams scored 30 points 21 times (18-3), 40 points 5 times (4-1) and 50 points twice (2-0).
That's 28 times scoring 30 or more in 52 games. 53.8%
From 2020 to date the Rams have scored 30 points 17 times (16-1), 40 points none and 50 points once (1-0)
18 times scoring 30 or more in 63 games. 28.6%
That's a huge difference.

BIG outputs (40+) are virtually non-existent. The Rams scored 40 or more points 5 times in the first 28 games under McVay, 3 in the last 87. We scored 50 points twice in his first 28 games, once in his last 87. To put things in a different perspective the Rams scored 35 or more 14 times in 2017 and 2018 (36 games; 38.9%), 7 times from 2019 to date (79 games; 8.9%).

Is the drastic change due to the OL? It's certainly not the QB. Stafford is by all accounts a more accomplished QB than Goff and yet, the offensive production hasn't equated to high scoring. Or is the change due to the lack of a stud RB? I don't buy "the league has figured out McVay". That's the easy answer and I think it's something different.
