Rams running play design and execution

All I can say is WTF!. These are examples of why the running game is so putrid. I really wonder what the overall IQ is of our O-Line. Poor double teams, poor feet, over-extending themselves, missed assignments, lack of effort, and I could go on. They don't look like a sound unit. These are examples of 5, 6 or even 7 guys playing as individuals with each not knowing what the guy next to him is doing. I thought we had one of the best O-Line coaches in the league, and to watch this leads me to believe he doesn't know what he's doing and/or we have really weak talent. From what I have seen from these examples, and throughout the season, I'm of the opinion it's a combination of both. This has been such a glaring issue, its just incomprehensible it continues to go on. If our O-Line cannot create push, there is no back in the league who would gain much of anything behind them. I've said it so many times... the offense starts with the O-Line, and right now I don't see anything telling me it's going to instantly get better with Goff under center. I truly fear for his safety this weekend and going forward.

Slow and Off the Mark Shotgun Snaps?????

Keenum does occasionally have those plays where you wonder what he was looking at or why he didn't continue to look down field but then so do most of the QBs in the NFL. He also has some plays like the one yesterday where he took off up the middle and dove forward head first to get a first down. Some bad but also some very good plays. If the running game was as good as last year we'd probably have 2 or 3 more wins and Keenum would be the average guy managing games and helping lead us to the playoffs.

A few random Monday morning thoughts...

Always interested in your thoughts 43

Benny gets 6 carries for 40 yards. Gurley 21 carries for 65 yards. Hmmmmm... what do we conclude from that?
That they're not looking for Benny. I actually thought Benny should've/could've scored on that one run...dive.
As far as sitting Gurley....what'chu talkin bout 43??? Seriously, I think he's starting to come around. I bet he doesn't lose 20 lbs ever again...If we could just get some great plays for him on a consistent basis. And it starts on the interior line. I was watching Martin...and that Center on Dallas....I have to say, Jerry Jones is a fucking genius....And I don't see as many jokes about him on the net as much... They know talent...I think Jamon Brown can play....I've seen Saffold live, he's usually a beast. Havenstein has also shown he's a player...But all 3 have under-achieved....Is someone screwing them up? G-Rob, Barnes, and Wichman need to show they wanna be on this team next season, or I'd be looking to draft their replacements...And I mean, trade their asses for picks...there has to be 3 young men that wanna play in horns running around the SEC, B1G, PAC-12, or ACC. Seriously.

The TE's...well, that's all mister Keenum...he of the 3 yard out pass to the TE...He missed Higbee all game...He's been missing him since pre-season...

Just saw Jerell Adams, great blocker outta SC...I thought we'd grab him with Higbee instead of Hemingway...Just scored for the Giants. Oh well..Strong TE class this year, I hope we grab another one...and scrap Kendricks...I like Kendricks, but I want to win...like now.

Defense played excellent. I still see weaknesses in coverage. Specifically your new crush Joyner...Every play he's in, someone he's on is open. Or getting grabbed. EJ Gaines should be moved to the slot...And lets draft another shutdown corner in the draft.

G-Rob played ok...I concur (I like using that word, reminds me of court & the hospital)...I still think Coach Boudreau isn't on his game anymore...Bigger concerns are Barnes, Saffold, and Wichman/Brown...missing stunts, letting DT's just run by...who the hell designed this scheme? Coach Boo? He's part of the problem...

Keenum and Goff: Discuss making change at QB

This Week In Jeff Fisher Refusing To Blame His Quarterback

I’d like to apologize to you on behalf of sports if you watched yesterday’s 9-6 Rams win over the Jets, a game that seemed absolutely destined to be a tie and didn’t end up with even that novelty to recommend it. The Jets are so unwatchable that they flexed Tom Brady out of primetime, but let’s not sleep on the permanent feebleness of the Rams’ offense.

Los Angeles is 4-5, a remarkably respectable record considering that this team is 31st in the league in yards per game (25th in the air and 29th on the ground) and dead last in points per game. This is a team that has won two different games this year without scoring a touchdown!

Rams fans have been waiting not-so-patiently for first overall pick Jared Goff, and after seemingly every popgun performance from Case Keenum, Jeff Fisher has taken to the podium to deflect a QB controversy.
  • Two games ago after putting up 10 points: “Quarterback is not the reason we lost.”
  • Last week after putting up 10 points: “I would submit that Case was not the reason we lost this game today.”
  • Sunday, after scoring just nine points: “I don’t believe it’s the quarterback play.”
It’s not fair to put this all at Case Keenum’s feet—that offensive line is trash—but the numbers aren’t pretty. Through nine games he’s thrown nine touchdowns against 11 picks, and currently holds the second-lowest passer rating of any QB who hasn’t already lost his job. The best thing you can say about Keenum yesterday is that he didn’t turn the ball over, but but he was an awful 17-for-30 passing for just 165 yards.

It seems improbable that Jared Goff could do any worse. But Fisher answered firmly in the negative when asked if a change was even under consideration. “No,” Fisher said. “I’m not going to go into a quarterback situation.”

So how’s Goff? Fisher has always said Goff would play when he’s ready.

“I keep saying and I’m going to keep saying this until his first game, that he’s improving,” Fisher said. “He’s got a feel for it. He’s really into the game.”

I don’t even know anymore, man. Maybe it’s Stockholm syndrome by this point, but I’ve almost come around on just keeping Goff benched for the entire season. What’s he going to change? This offense is impotent no matter who’s throwing the ball. Why put him in there to get killed? Or maybe Case Keenum is actually good and Jeff Fisher is right and everyone else is wrong. Or maybe Jared Goff died and they’re just hoping everyone forgets he existed. This team makes me feel insane.

I hate this team, and I hate that they get televised. The punter is easily the best thing about them. Even the Browns are more fun to watch. I’m getting physically ill thinking about a game the Rams won, and that fact is making me angry all over again.

Anyway, no matter how this goes, the Rams are 100 percent finishing 7-9.
Keenum has been dreadful since his Detroit game. 2 td to 5 int and a passer rating of 64.5
And Fisher keeps saying he's playing well

Jake Long out for the season...again

I remember him in college, have paid no attention since the draft....how has been in the pros?
Lewan or Matthews?

I've seen both...more of Lewan. I was interested in the formation of the Titan O-Line....Warmack, Swenke the center (sp?, and I think he doesn't start anymore)...Lewan is turning into a league top 5 LT...and is a damn fine young man, regardless of his past immature acts. really good run blocker...Check out D. Murray. #2 rusher in the league. Marcus Marriota too...I like what the Titans have done.

First impressions of Matthews was hardknocks...he went against JJ Watt in practice (Atl vs Houston)...seemed to be hanging in there, but the way JJ was manhandling him...just not a good look. He's got great footwork, his pass pro is something to see if you like line-play. He rarely gets fooled by twists/stunts.. .Th only thing I see that I really don't like, when he gets bull-rushed, he's on skates. Similarly, he's not a great drive blocker.

Look at Lewan run block, truly a thing of beauty. Same with G-Rob when he gets his hands on an opponent. They move bodies...I don't see that with Matthews.

but I'd take all 3...I really believe after watching them, Greg will be the best after 5 years...well, in 2 more years...

Browns fans planning 0-16 parade

Sorry guys! I'm just pissed off because the Saint Louis stations are trying to jam the Chiefs and Green Bay down our throats and I can't get the games anymore.:help: Also I'm quite frustrated with Fisher seemingly not trying to fix the offense before the season is wasted.
I don't mean to take it out on you or to be a downer. From now on I'll try to keep it to myself.:headexplosion:
Maybe just try to moderate?

I would be frustrated too if that is what was being force fed to me....Oh wait... I get Shecocks, Whiners, or just some random NFC game every week. I've had one Rams game on regular TV.

I think we all feel the angst of watching this offense and the inability to put a decent offense on the field for the better part of a decade. It is truly hard to look for the bright spots or talk football without bagging on the here and now. I think we can all find a few things here and there that are lighter than Fisher sucks or Goff needs to start or else. We all just need to look for some of them.

I don't think anyone here minds the threads about maybe what to do or who we should look at as a possible replacement for Fisher. It's the constant bagging on the team, Fisher, Snead, KD, Keenum, - enter player or coach here - that gets old. It's the need to go negative or offer back handed comments in celebration threads that wears on many of us here.

We all get how tough it is to be a Rams fan whether you have been a fan for a few years or for many decades. Yet here we are. Cheers to all of you.

Off Topic: My Kids Are Going To The Championship.

People don't realize how much of a job it is to coach kids. And they don't realize how rewarding it is when things fall into place and the team and kids have success. Congrats! Win or lose, your biggest reward hasn't been realized yet. Wait until the day comes when one of those kids comes back to you as a young adult and says, "Thanks coach!". Now go win it all!
Thanks for the kind words Mr Ramhusker
The group that I coached in my first year are 22 or 23.
Had one kid come up to me a year ago and refused to shake my
hand.Instead he gave me big ole hug. In my opinion that is what makes the world go around
.I know that I have given him a positive life experience.Unfortunately some kids
don't get a lot of those.

Hammond: Rams' Case Keenum, Rob Boras feeling the heat to get offense on track

Boras is still a rookie OC and has only been calling plays for the Rams for a total of 11 games since the end of last season. He's been a mixed bag week in and week out with his game plans and halftime adjustments.

Boras in these last 2 games appears to have taken a step back and doesn't seem to be sure of what the identity of his offense is.. Big time Pressure on Boras to get more out of this offense in the 2nd half of the season.

Keenum is what the league knew he was. A solid veteran backup quarterback. I'm rooting for Case to deliver today but if the Rams lose at NYJ because of an inept offense, this could be his last start in 2016. Pressure on Keenum started last week and today could be the straw the breaks the camels back.

The longer our players are coached by this staff the worse that they play.
