LB Jarvis Jones visiting rams

Jones isn't a good overall player, but he can be a good role player. If the Rams sign him, they aren't signing him for his pass rush prowess.

I'm saying that they align a little differently than you had it. I'm not disagreeing with your overall point, just nitpicking.

However, I'm not sold that Easley will be starting. If you look at how he did things in Denver, Brockers makes more sense as the strong side DE.(Derek Wolfe) He likes to have a bigger, more powerful guy there to protect the ILB behind him. And I expect if we use Barron as that ILB, he'll want to protect him with a bigger DL.(which means that the strong side DE will be attacking the B Gap more often)

If that were the case, I'm surprised that they didn't pursue Poe on a 1yr prove it deal and Draft the position. NT is a tough position to get right and it takes a few years for them to get up to speed. I'm always surprised that they are as undervalued as they are because when the NT isn't solid in a 3-4, that D is gonna constantly get gashed with inside runs.

Also, glad Jones signed elsewhere. I want Connor Barwin although there may be someone else they are eyeing.

Anquan Boldin wasn’t sure about his future, but has apparently decided he wants to keep playing.

According to Jim Trotter of ESPN, the veteran wide receiver has decided to return for a 15th season. He’s an unrestricted free agent, so it’s also helpful to make sure people realize he’s on the market and available before all the money dries up.

The 36-year-old Boldin showed last year he still has something left, leading the Lions with eight touchdowns. He had 67 catches for 584 yards lsat year, and a pretty strong collection of numbers (1,076 catches, 13,779 yards, 82 touchdowns) in his 14 NFL seasons.

Boldin said he’d be open to returning to the Lions, and they haven’t exactly covered up his spot, signing Keshawn Martin.

Are we in a rebuild? How many wins in 2017?

A few long term players left this off season. Kendricks, Hayes, Simms, TruJo (probably), Barnes, Britt, McDonald (?), Benny C. (?)...Change to 3-4, which is a defensive formation rarely used by the Rams except when they were being tricky boys. Of course adding upgrades at LT and WR so far....

I have no clue what we will do this season. Eliminating our starting Center without any apparent replacement (sorry Rhaney, you will never be a legit starter)..... I hope that we can at least be competitive this year... (7-9?)

Rebuild = Yes.
2017 win total = 4.

Retired player: 'A lot of guys don't really love this game'

Maybe I missed something here, I don't really get it...Is it not possible to be great at something without professing a love for it ??? If a player is driven by money, I couldn't possibly care less about his love for the game...I care only how much he puts into it...

I think a pay check only goes so far. Motivation enough for guys like Albert Haynesworth, but only for a while.

Alex Barron is a great example.

He(Barron)’s got the skill to play. He does not have the heart to play football. He does not like anything about the game except getting paid,
- Billy Devaney.

^ Of course that was not news to Ram fans.

Then you take a guy like Aaron Donald. At Pitt his work habits and film study became legendary. I share this excerpt from a pre draft article from the Chicago Tribune.

*********************************

"Pittsburgh's football headquarters, a facility the Panthers share with the Steelers, overlooks the Monongahela River from the southern bank east of downtown. That's where you could find Aaron Donald after games last season.

His sanctuary was the defensive tackles' meeting room. It's through the right front door and up the stairs, down the hallway on the right, beyond the wall listing Pitt's all-time All-Americans. Donald brushes his hand against the wall each time he walks past.

That room is where film study became his obsession.

Inoke Breckterfield, Pitt's defensive tackles coach, witnessed it up close. He arrived to work Sept. 3, the morning after Pitt lost its season opener to eventual national champion Florida State 41-13 in a home game that ended about 11:30 p.m. He saw notes scribbled on the dry erase board, questions Donald had in his search for feedback.

"He was in there until 2 o'clock in the morning watching film," Breckterfield said. "And every game after that, every time, he wouldn't go home. He'd sit there and wait for the film to be uploaded, and away he went."

Donald refined the routine as a senior. He would turn off the lights, leave the door cracked, settle into the big leather chair in front of the projection screen, grab the remote control and watch each play two or three times by himself before reviewing them again with coaches and teammates the day after the game.

"I've got to see everything I did good, did wrong before anybody else sees it," he said. "Otherwise I won't be able to sleep. I'm tossing and turning just thinking about it."

Sometimes Donald wouldn't bother to drive the 10 minutes across the river and up the hill back to his apartment. He would arrange the meeting room chairs to form a bed and sleep for a few hours.

"Then he'd wake up and watch some more film before practice even started," Panthers receiver Ed Tinker, one of Donald's closest friends, said with a laugh."

************************************

His fire, competiveness, his obsessive perfectionist nature, desire to make his parents proud, it all comes from within. And that's where greatness lies, IMO.

Baseball is Finally Here!!!

Cardinals fan before I was born and Cardinals fan long after I die. I've not followed the HSL for years and since I'm out of the FSMW broadcast area I just tune into an occasional night game on KMOX until the ASB. After the ASB I try to follow every game I can and try to read STLtoday.com. My son and I catch them in Cincy and Atlanta and might make it to Jupiter this spring.

The pitching staff seems to be a constant salvage operation back to 2006. To have the success they have with the crushing injuries to even their ace starter is amazing. Have to worry if the farm system can continue to provide starters on the mound and in the field when needed. But as we know these are the end times, the apocalypse is in full swing with the......well can't bring myself to think, say, write it. You know. That which must never be repeated.

Sorry for not responding. It's been too long, man. Sorry for not responding to your post.

You're from Tennessee? I'm shocked that FSMW is out of your area. At least KMOX is still there? And if you do make a game to Jupiter, I'd love to hear it.

Yeah, every single year, we seem to have lost a top pitcher to injury. We're fortunate to have the depth we have. And I'm not concerned about the farm system. We're blessed with a wealth of options when it comes to pitching. And yeah, they-who-must-never-be-named doing the thing...I still puke in my mouth when I hear people singing their praises.

Free agent running backs

Hell no to Peterson. Dude fell off last year, and the way he physically abused his kid has always sat with me wrong.

I wouldn't mind Charles if we can't re-sign Cunningham (which we better). He's better than Brown and Green as a third down back spelling Gurley on occasion.

Lacy looks like the Pillsbury Doughboy. No thanks.

Greg Robinson playing Right Tackle

Notice who's feet are crossing on the right side??? Notice who's arms are extended perfectly on the left side.
I know...one play...hell, I'm looking at Saffold too...pitiful...
all positions should be open...
and I really think we grab a rookie center to run this unit.

Yeah there are plenty of plays where I have seen Roger whiff. That particular one was irritating, poor technique and no recovery at all, but then again he's going against Kawann Short. And tbh those types of plays were also indicators of the greater problem where the Rams' offensive staff didn't hold anyone on offense accountable. The different rules they had for offense/defense drove me nuts.

And that block by Gurley... Smh. Dude is a big boy, he could have done a lot better there. IMO he was going through the motions most of last season once he realized the offense was doomed by the OL and an OC in over his head. Not condoning it by any means, but he was not the only one who quit.

That video demonstrates to me how bad the coaching was on that side of the ball; I mean did they actually design it so that the Center lets the guy lined up over him take a free run at Case? Insane. Or maybe Barnes is one of those guys who doesn't adjust well, and went with original design instead of doing what he was supposed to when the blitzer is lined up on top of him. This is why I suspect there is going to be an enormous difference in many of those same players this season. I pray there will be at least.

Texans ship Brock Osweiler and a second-round pick to Cleveland

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ation-was-last-straw-for-texans-and-osweiler/

Week 17 altercation was last straw for Texans and Osweiler
Posted by Mike Florio on March 12, 2017

So when did the Texans decide it was time to move on from quarterback Brock Osweiler despite a contract that pays $16 million guaranteed in 2017? The decision was made in the aftermath of an incident that occurred on the first day of the calendar year.

January 1. Texans at Titans. Backup-turned-starter Tom Savage took a hit on a quarterback sneak during the first play of the second quarter and was removed for a concussion evaluation. Starter-turned-backup Brock Osweiler entered the game.

Confusion emerged during the second quarter as to whether Savage had been cleared to return to action. At halftime, Savage got the news: He was being shut down for the day.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Savage became very upset, knocking things around in the locker room and otherwise making a ruckus about having his status jeopardized by a doctor’s decision to keep him from playing. At or about the same time, coach Bill O’Brien informed Osweiler that he’d be finishing the game.

Osweiler, per the source, reacted negatively, telling O’Brien in the visiting coach’s office at Nissan Stadium in Nashville that he’s only playing Osweiler because O’Brien needs him. [Editor’s note: That’s sort of how football depth charts work.]

An argument ensued, voices were raised. At one point, it’s believed that Osweiler got up to walk away and O’Brien threw out an arm to stop him. That prompted Osweiler to act as if he were being “held hostage,” a claim that he would repeat (per the source) in the days after the game.

And that was that for Osweiler in Houston. Following that incident, the team was determined to find a way to move on from him.

Rumors of an incident of some sort had been percolating for weeks. Both O’Brien and Osweiler downplayed talk of a loud argument in the days after the game. Following the hot potato trade that sent Osweiler and a second-round pick to Cleveland, former NFL defensive back Bryant McFadden said in an appearance on 120 Sports that Osweiler and O’Brien had a “physical confrontation that got ugly.”

“It was physical,” McFadden said. “It was physical. The players and coaches had to restrain O’Brien and Brock.”

Both the Texans and Osweiler’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, declined to comment on McFadden’s claims. Based on the information PFT has obtained, it seems that the incident was mildly physical at worst.

Consider it objectively. Osweiler is six-seven, and he was wearing full pads. O’Brien is considerably shorter than that and, unlike the conventional game-day attire in baseball, was not wearing pads and a uniform.

Whatever did (or didn’t) happen between the two of them, Osweiler’s perceived overreaction to the incident was, we’re told, the moment the Texans decided to move on from Osweiler.

Patriots get Brandin Cooks

That's actual reportage coming from NO.

The Bensons may have to sell and they aren't going to saddle any new group with big contracts nor are they going to pay any big signing bonuses to benefit the next owner.

Not Brandin Cooks nor anyone else is gonna sign a big contract there esp if it requires a big signing bonus.

That Cooks had other issues only made it easier to pull the trigger.
